Having worked at Dish years ago, I'm curious how they would service both Directv and Dish customers, as they both use different satellite and coding technologies. Switching even the smaller customer base over to the other version will be costly, which may help their argument for FCC approval.
It will be interesting to see which satellite system survives and which one will be phased out over time.
I wonder if it will be like SiriusXM that still uses two different sets of tech. After all these years you would think new cars would only get one of them but Ford is Sirius and GMC is XM for example.
@CordCuttersNews short-term that is likely the case, but one setup will be used for any potential new customers. Directv is still very relevant for business customers, so for that alone I can see their system being the default.
Directv is managing ATT Uverse cable tv accounts and phasing it out into DirecTV via internet. Directv already has the huge technician platform that installs the satellite dishes and they are now able to provide the DTVI Gemini boxes onsite in the same visit if the customer wanted satellite but have no line of sight or no landlord permission or HOA restrictions as long as the customer has high speed internet. Directv and Dish actually shared the 119 satellite for years (Directv only had standard definition locals parked there and have since phased this out) so there could be some synergies to be had there. I believe Directv has plans to lift another satellite soon so maybe this could be used to transition the services together.
I do know that dish network is going to go bankrupt if they don't do this
I suspect Sling TV and DirecTV stream will be operated separately even with a combined company since they serve a different set of customers.
Once the Disney deal happened, Direct set the framework to one day offer smaller genre based packages; this may eliminate the need for Sling TV altogether.
@@poppy87 true. They were not arguing about price. It was the fact that a little old lady who just wanted abc had to pay for ESPN and a dozen other kids channels because they were all bundled together. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
Beginning of the end for satellite?
DIRECTV hasn’t ordered any new satellites in years. Half of their satellites will be dead in less time than it takes to order new satellites. Therefore, it’s obvious that their satellites will be shut down soon.
Satellite internet will take off soon and this new company will be toast eventually
Doubt it
As a former employee of dish in the mid-2010s, and one of the very first subscribers to Sling TV. I am very concerned about this. Sling is a great deal the way it is. It doesn’t need local stations. Because there are other ways to get those. Like an over the air antenna.
DIRECTV stream is overpriced. My only hope is that this will be grandfathered in so current subscribers of Sling TV can keep what they have at the price they are paying for it
I'm also a heavy Sling TV user because it got a Robust Free Tier now called FreeStream with a DVR and very lite ad load for a free service would hate to see that go away
It’s not really overpriced if you want RSNs, their base package is def overpriced
@@whsxc12 if you’re lucky enough not to have Bally sports for your RSN. By this time next year, Bally sports may be a thing of the past. Because of their financial issues.
Who knows maybe somebody else will come along to take over.
As a fan of sling tv. I am worried and concern what this means when this merger happens. I hope Sling tv stays around. i would hate to see it go.
Sling shouldn’t be touched and remain an amazing & Great Priced Streaming Live TV Service
Especially with SlingTV prices, which are the most affordable of all of them. Directv are money pits.
All the people switching between he companies to get lower prices every few years are going to be pissed
The price is going to skyrocket.
AT&T will make sure of that.
AT&T would most likely be forced to completely divest their minority stake in DirecTV since Dish Network is a competitor in the wireless market.
Look what happened to UVERSE
I hope it doesn’t take place 😢😢😢😢
@@techguy3236 AT&T has a 70% stock holding in DirecTv.
They are far from a minority stock holder, even they want to pretend that they have no power.
@@techguy3236 AT&T is actually the largest stock holder at 70%.
They are actually a seventy percent owner.
Great a sling tv price increase, might be worst service could be cancelled only service I can really afford 😢.
Does this mean Dish will now get Bally Sports?
I swear we hear this merger news every week
I think they discontinue DIRECTV stream and grandfather in the current customers
How will that affect Dish RV customers, since Direct won’t sell to just RV customers?
Great Question, I don’t think it will effect the RV Customers
My DirectTV bill is approaching $80, one more price increase, and i'm done with them
A record today. The DirecTV system went down a total of 108 time's today. Junk, a real waste of money and time.....
What's the difference between DirecTV Stream and DirecTV via the internet?
Directv stream is just using the app on your own streaming device like an android based tv like a Roku or Fire tv or side loading the app on a Fire stick, Roku box or apple tv box
Directv via internet is just like Directv satellite but it doesn’t use a satellite dish. You get Gemini boxes with a set top box style remote and cloud dvr so it feels just like old school directv satellite or a cable but it also can hold all your streaming apps you have and can switch between your live DIRECTV channels and Netflix or prime with the push of a button on the same remote . My mom and dad never got used to a Roku remote but love the directv remote.
For Directv Stream, you don't have to sign a two year contract too, which is great. For Directv internet they make you sign the contract.
This will be like Sirius satellite radio when they merged with XM Satellite Radio
I have currently DirecTV . If they go up in price. I will be discontinuing Service and going with a TV antenna and Prime Video. No way I am going to pay almost $200 a month for service.
What program package do you have at two hundred dollars a month?
@@davidbias2509 standard in the middle package. If the prices go up in October it will be 10 dollars before hitting 200
@@davidbias2509Well, if you have the Ultimate with all premium channels, then yes... it is close to $200.00
I can't see this being approved by the regulators.
Is this good or bad?
I don’t see any good in this for streaming customers at all. As far as satellite TV customers, I don’t think there will be much of a difference.
Typically things like this are very bad for consumers and employees of at least one of the two companies.
probably a mix of both
DirectTV survives along with Sling which has a decent trademark. Combines the best of both
Satellite reaches put of US, that cable or fiber internet can't.
I never thought of sling yeah if that happened and probably will happen and the prices of sling would be higher same thing with a sports
There goes Sling... I think Sling is good just the way it is. Services and pricing.
Leave it alone.
I just switched to sling…. I may leave
@@cyoohoos Wait until such a merger is approved, takes place, and you see the fallout for Sling before leaving (assuming you like Sling TV). While I am not hopeful that Sling survives untouched in a merger, I would still wait for that outcome before deciding.
It will be some time before they do anything. Enjoy Sling as long as you can.
Sling needs to go on its own
Anything that associates with Direct TV stream, expect price increases!
I hope I will get my Fort Myers CBS & CW affiliate again that I lost 2 years ago
What happens to Dish Wireless? If AT&T isn't getting their hands on that there is no reason for AT&T to merge Directv and Dish.
I'm gonna hope that some Dish channels merge into the Directv system 😬
Hey, thanks for telling me all about. This. Is something to know? I used to have direct t. Vbut I understand now I don't have DirecTV. But the reason I don't have it now is because I stay somewhere else to the personal state but does not have direct t vbut. I like directvover that or competitor in the other channel. Which I don't like overpriced. What's on that makes your name but. If they want to merge together, then that's cool. Not a channel's slang in to be in all that are pretty cool about UA-cam t. V. Is kind of expensive directv? Was the cheapest for me and my friend had streaming. DirecTV streaming service and it was also good, so I hope they merge together be better than that of channels.Thank you and hope you have a good day for telling me this. And everybody else and i'm in florida
Sling with added local pkgs. is the idea but Direct will screw it up.
So it means that cable prices will keep going up. Dish and SlingTV were the cheapest between them. Directv is the highest in prices of all of them. Dead to cable service.
A merger that going to eliminate a cheaper competitor. F Direct/AT&T
Why isn't there a streaming service that offers only ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX? How much would something like that cost? Currently Dish gives it to me as an add-on for $12/month
They will Dish it out Directly. 😅
I really hope Sling TV stays. I believe it's the most affordable out there
Agree
Direct TV went down hill when they were bought out, then they lost Sunday ticket, then they are raising prices again. After 20 + years I am saying goodbye. Even fought the HOA to get a dish on the roof to watch Sunday Ticket in the early days. Switched to UA-cam TV for 75 buck v. 220 I was paying.
Saving Money is The Best Option, what a huge differance ($145 Saving)
DIRECTV premiere package is far different from base UA-cam tv. Apples and oranges.
I Watch this Everyday and It Keeps Me Up to Date On News I Can Use about Streaming and Cord Cutting Thank You
DishrecTV.
😂😂😂
If this were to happen, the biggest mistake would be letting Direct TV have control of the merged organization.
Dish Needs to have full Control, Not AT&T / Directv
I hate to see this. I like Sling's setup getting your locals via antenna and lowering the package cost as a result. But I'm about ready to go strictly antenna channels and subscribing to Netflix and 1 or 2 other streaming services.
If they keep with these price hikes, I will do the same. The only thing that is keeping me with cable service is Fox News. I really need my Fox News channel 🥹
please don't put a sling increase on us
i’d love cheap directv cause like directv is so good but way too expensive
I just left Dish after 15 years. Tried Direct TV streaming. These two companies deserve each other. Both are very poor service and customer service. Happy with their competitor You Tube TV.
I had a lot of issues with DIRECTV & their Customer Service. Left DIRECTV & tried UA-camTV & I hated it! .. I’m currently with Dish Network (Since 2020)& Love their customer service and Great Priced packages. Everyone has their own experiences & opinions
I hope they don't merge. I dropped directv and went to dish tv because of AT&T. If they do, I'll start looking at UA-cam and other services. I hate AT&T.
If at&t takes control it will destroy dish..
I like Sling Tv
Me Too
Me too. Price is affordable as well.
End up like kmart and sears.
Or Radio Shack and Sprint.
Exactly
After 23 years with Directv, I'm finally free from it! It sounds like I got out just in time!
I think they both and go the way of the dodo bird. Nothing but overpriced garbage on TV today.
Can't see a future where satellite TV remains a viable business considering the high cost of putting satellites in orbit.
Can you say monopoly boys and girls
Not for long. Once satellite internet truly takes off soon, there will be very little need for satellite TV
Yup. High bandwidth, better compression, buh bye expensive satellite.
It's not a monopoly when there's plenty of other competition in the pay TV industry (cable and streaming services).
there are quite a few monopolies… this wouldn’t be one if them
Just unsubscribed. This guy never responds to any questions that are asked unless they are asked during the first hour after posting. Steve Miller Band said it best - - Go on, take the money and run.
dish screwed me hockey wise
