What happens to Dish & Sling then? I know several people that have Dish and I have Free Sling/Sling, so where do they go? Sling is a great deal, a lot less expensive than Direct, Spectrum, etc. I am not going back paying $100 a month for TV.
DirecTV, as well as TPG, were absolutely foolish in not allowing Dish Network’s bondholders to have a seat at the negotiating table when the deal was originally announced around a month-and-a-half ago. Now Dish Network’s continuing debts & losses will continue to sink EchoStar as a whole and their buildout of their own OpenRAN 5G network to compete against Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, and DirecTV will also continue to rack up mounting debts & losses as well.
Directv hasn’t invested in new satellites in years, when the current ones die, that’s it. They probably wanted dishes to keep going until everyone goes to streaming.
Sling may continue as a streaming service no matter what happens, but hard to tell. 5 years from now live TV may be the thing of the past. Direct TV isn't that far behind. We may all go to Philo or Frndly TV. There are not any other options in the Sling TV range. Everything else that has a cable TV package is expensive.
@@chrisgarrett601 The Dish Hopper/Joey receivers are light years ahead of Directv‼️I was a Directv customer from 2005 until 2022 when I switched to Dish. The Directv receivers are so out of date technology wise + their age caused me grief because of constant equipment failures. I had 7 receivers in operation at that time. When I would return a defective one, they would send me one from a customer that had cancelled their service. It was ready for the junk pile as well. I’m enjoying the quality that Dish provides but I’m afraid they’re not going to be around much longer.
Question for Luke: What do you think will happen to Boost Mobile and Sling TV if Dish declares bankruptcy? Do you believe that they will be sold or shut down completely?
Well me and my sis live together and have direct tv for about 5 yrs. we loved it since it’s fiber optic and if a storm hit would switch to stream so you never lost your show, However, after price increases and the hint of a merge they went up another $6.00, we called last week and it was terminated yesterday.I bought good rabbit ears haha and our smart TVs get all the local shows and then some. I was going to get hula or UA-cam. We aleady had discovery plus now I’ll just get Bravo, since we’re reality people, and we get lifetime too.. so we’re saving at least 150.00. Our smart tv’s have all the main news like CNN, fox etc so I’m not missing anything except that damm bill which I will loving, and I feel good.
It may not be over...There is still a lot of potential money there with subscribers. Satellite is expensive, so streaming may be the future for Echostar.
Satellite TV is limited as many apartment buildings don't allow them to be installed. Others (like myself) who live in a senior facility have contracts with Comcast which SUCKS. Also, Direct TV has had ongoing contract problems with content providers, such as local tv stations. Bad weather means poor reception, at least here in New England with this thing called Snow. lol
How much of DirecTV's business is satellite and how much is streaming, Would they drop satellite altogether and leave customers in real areas high and dry?
Not likely to be the end of dish. They have many good programs to watch. IF they go out I will just watch more youtube. I have never streamed a movie in my life.
If they were smart they would have a deal with 5G home internet so they could stream to customers as this is what is killing them now that rural internet is out and a lot of cord cutting as well. I dropped cable TV over 5 years ago and pickup local channels and use 2 streaming services to watch my other shows.
Question for luke: With the new administration coming into office, do you have any idea or thoughts on how they will use antitrust laws to prevent media companies from bundling their news programming with other channels to fund them?(Hearing rumblings on this happening) Could this dissolve the bundling method seen with cable channels? For example, Warner Media bundles TNT Sports with CNN. Disney bundles ABC News with ESPN. As a result, those who want to purchase sports programming must also pay for left/right leaning news channels. With more vigorous antitrust enforcement do your think this will play a huge impact to the cost of cable and or streaming.
TPG will sell it off piece by piece and profit off its death just like any other investment firm has done to a good business. They'll probably speed up DirecTV's demise. Bain Capital anyone?

Everybody don't have good enough Internet to stream. Right now, my fiber optic has been out almost 2 months because of Hurricane Helene.
Pretty sure dish doesn’t own their on satellites and leases space on existing ones.
@ I don’t think that’s correct. The Internet says that they own their own satellites.
It means dish is dead it's only a matter of time now. And those bondholders will get nothing
Dish has not updated in years either.

I cancelled my satellite Direct tv service. It told me to recycle all my Direct tv equipment.
Meanwhile I still owe over $800 because they don’t have records of getting my equipment back 🙄🤦♀️
Sad that so many jobs will be lost
There have been layoffs for years
It would be interesting to learn what the strategy is for the holdout bondholders. They must think that a better deal is possible

It no longer makes financial sense to invest in new satellites. However, streaming is not yet profitable.
Streaming will become profitable very quickly if Satellite & cable TV go bye bye. People will have to move, or watch OTA channels if they have them.
The only way satellite will become profitable is if they go with a technology set up similar to Starlink.
@@jony3860 I'm not sure that would even work. Streaming is the answer. No fancy receivers and internet available in most places now.

What will happen to slingtv if dish files bankruptcy? Will a competitor buy it? Will it fold as well?
i hope sling tv doesn't go away if it does I'll be upset

Well it doesn't matter just by putting two sick horses together does not make a single good horse. Texas International Group is just stupid.

Cancelled Dish Network in July. I guess I jumped ship before the ship started to sink.

Not too big to fail.
I’m still stunned TPG bought out AT&Ts share. The future of DSB is bleak. Why go further in?

I think satellite tv is dead!📡 why not they offer a set top box for tv using cellular without internet!😂
I can't get DirecTV stream to work on my Samsung TV..
Free Direct TV works fine on my $20 Firestick.
That means Dish will completely be gone anyway. I was going to switch to Direct. Hopefully they survive with their Gemini Hdmi connection
what's going to happen to directv stream? I have that
Nothing, it will still exist.
I think Sling will be around.
It’s most likely that they both are going to shut down because everybody got their own movies and TV shows backed up on hard drives
We've never had either one, seemed unreliable.
Both are not going to be around
DIRECTV paid only $1 for Dish along with the debt. That is what happens when you get cheap.
Almost 10m debt, which is what Dish was worth. It has nothing to do with cheap.
Streaming sucks. You have scroll for five minutes to find what your looking for.
Nobody wants this on there roof that's y.
