    My first electric guitar was a ’79 LP Custom. I had worked for quite some time in a local factory during school vacations and when I had saved enough money me and my dad drove to the music store in the big city. I wanted to buy a Hamer Special cause it was all I could afford. My dad asked the sales guy about that shiny brand new black Les Paul Custom on the wall and I quickly intervened as it was much too expensive. But to my surprise my old man, who used to hate rock music and electric guitars, just answered „Don’t worry son, I‘ll pay the rest!“ I just couldn’t believe it, but I walked out of the shop with my absolute dream guitar. When we drove home I opened the case every few minutes just to look at it. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and it was the happiest day of my live. My dad passed away last year at the age of 85. It hasn’t always been easy with us but in the end everything was good. I have owned too many guitars to remember and have a nice collection of vintage and Custom Shop pieces. But that old Les Paul Custom is still around and is my most valuable treasure. Every time I pick it up I remember that special day with my dad. I‘m so grateful for the time we had. There’s not a single day that I don’t think about him. I miss you dad!

      @@Coleo432 People who never played a 70s Gibson like to talk trash about the Norlin era. It‘s true a lot of dogs slipped through quality control and left the factory back then, but they also made some very fine instruments that can compete with every Custom Shop item any day. Adam Jones could play any guitar he wants, but he chose that 70s LP Custom similar to yours, just a different color. Congrats and enjoy your new guitar and keep up with your nice channel that deserves more subscribers!

      @@stevenvandemsky7290 Thank you very much! the subscribers will come with time haha. But I absolutely agree, Norlin Era Les Pauls do get a lot of undeserved hate, but I feel that as of recently, they have been getting a lot more respect in the guitar community. I feel that more people are realizing that they aren't that bad of guitars and they deserve more respect.

Nowhere near the condition yours is in though, but has that played-in mojo. Congrats & Maximum Respect for working hard and living the dream mate! 🤜🤛

    I've been wanting a 79 custom for most of my guitar playing life, 20 years. I am a huge Tool/Adam Jones fan. I must say, that custom is incredibly beautiful! I thought it was a reissue at first cause it looks brand new! 12 pounds is unreal! Haha! My 60s style standard is over 10 pounds and I thought that was ridiculous! That's a real piece of music history and art! It's something to cherish and enjoy for your entire life! The fact you worked so hard to save up for it is really cool too! You literally earned it and that's something special too! Anyway, congrats man! Enjoy it!

    That’s a gorgeous LP! The maple neck on that will actually be more resilient to cracks breaks since it’s just a much harder wood too. The cork sniffers will say it adds a more chimy/ trebly tone however I really don’t get that deep into the tonewood thing personally. The Tributes also come with maple necks and the tone ( to me ) is all about the pickups /shrug. Good luck with that beaut man, if you’re planning to gig with an LP I’d probably get a less expensive version too, just to keep that one as nice as it is. The back of that thing is awesome and the ‘no pick guard’ also throws that nice burst out at ya that much more imo, best of luck with it! ( ya I know this videos been out a few months but I just seen it now obviously 🤣 ).

    I agree about the T-tops. My first experience was with a 76 335td with T-tops, once I played them I immediately ignored all the naysayers. I now also have a 78 Alpine White Les Paul Custom that weighs a ton but plays and sounds amazing. I'm a Norlin-era fan for life. The new Gibson T-Type pickups don't come even close to original T-tops to my ears, I own both and always go with T-tops for the magic

    Your #1 negative about it is so true. I have a rare Custom Shop Strat myself and I'm never going all out with it, there's always some restraint that's keeping me from fully enjoying it. After 1 year with it I wasn't so sure anymore if my next guitar would necessarily have to be a CS or whether factory made would let me relax more with it. Absolute first world problems.

    I have a 1979 Wine Red Les Paul Custom and the color is absolutely amazing looking. It was not my first choice - but I do not think I would be happy with any other color now. I really dig the Tobaco as it really reminds me of the 70s. Just grow a beard and wear some bell bottom pants and the look will come together. Mine 79 is 11 lbs , the frets are super strange to get used to I totally agree on that. The maple necks really help balance the tone from being too dark one of the best features in my opinion.
    Case Queen anxiety is a real issue - I purchase mine and it only had a single ding under the bridge as well. sorta freaked me out to start digging into it when playing. Voluts are the best man, I agree all LPs should have them. I threw in some Suhr Aldrich pickups and put the T-tops off to the side, and that really opened up the clarity of the guitar and gave it a really fun feel.
    You have to break that thing in, just play it as much as you can for the next 20 years and it will keep getting better and better. The broken in feel is something new guitars just cant give you for a decade or more. Have fun with that beast - FYI the ashtray ground blow hard on these.

    ?? Question for ya. What you recommend, a new les Paul custom or a 1979 in great shape and both are the same price ? Which would you choose and why ? Taking away the fact that the 79 is your dream guitar

    • @Coleo432
      @Coleo432  11 місяців тому

      This is a tough question because there are pros and cons to each. From an investment standpoint, the '79 would absolutely be a better option because it will most likely continue to go up in value for a while. With a new guitar, you get the guarantee that you are going to be taken care of by the seller (considering you're buying from a retailer). Sometimes it's hard to tell if a vintage guitar is going to be a great playing guitar or not. Sometimes, the frets may be in bad shape, the neck could possibly be twisted, and just several other factors that you have to be willing to take the risk on when it comes to buying an older guitar. With a new guitar, especially one of the custom shop ones, it's basically a guarantee that the guitar will be of the highest quality. At the end of the day, it's your decision and you should go with your gut. Hope this helps, thanks for reaching out!
