    I'm grew up in the 80s and I have always loved the Character of Shipwreck because he was an Good Outlaw Pirate that fought Evil Pirates. The original story for Shipwreck had him as a South Pacific Sailor which have always been troublesome waters and have put US Navy Ships and Sailors bringing Law and Order to a Lawless Waters. The weapon the Original O-ring Shipwreck Figured carried was a Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol that is basically a handheld Shotgun that was used to Clear the Deck of old Wooden Ships back in the 1700s but Shipwrecks was upgraded to modern times with a scope. The rope thing that he has is a type of boarding grabbling hook that is used to board a ship by swinging from your own ship to the one you are going to board.
    Now the 1982 launch of G.I. Joe took great care to make sure that the characters that they were creating would seam real because many of the Tools like Vehicles, Aircraft, Boats and Weapons they were putting together with each figure was very close if not an Exact Replica of the type of Gear that our Military was using or they were working on to have in the near future. The Dragonfly Assault Helicopter is a perfect example of this Hasbro Engineers took the then Current Version of the AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopter and using the Upgrade Plan for the AH-1W Super Cobra and created something that looked to be 95-97% Real and could be seen at a Military Air Show. The new Haslab Dragonfly Project is basically the same thing where Hasbro again took the Original 1983 Dragonfly and combined it with the AH-1Z Viper to create the Haslab Dragonfly.
    If you think about it G.I. Joe is America's Special Mission Force who job is to fight Cobra. Well in the US Army there is a Special Mission Unit that also goes by the name of "Delta Force" and in the Navy it is called DevGru or Seal Team 6 but G.I. Joe was a combination of Both that had all the cool toys and all the cool people. As someone that enlisted in the US Navy after Sept 11, 2001 at the age of 33 because I wanted to go overseas and KICKASS it was the lessons that were taught back in the 80s about Patriotism and the Importance of Honor, Courage and Commitment that made to long cold nights sitting in a steel box on guard duty when it was 17 degrees at night or the days with 98 degrees with 89% humidity allot easier. I was an Aviation Electronics Tech and Security that rose thru the Ranks pretty quickly until I got hurt and put in a wheelchair because of a flight line accident.

      @@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal No problem! I am still collecting my favorite Joes from and putting them on my man cave, thank god I have a very understanding wife. LOL
      There are couple of videos here on UA-cam and internet that have interviews with the Original Hasbro Engineers that put together the Vehicle Line for the G.I. Joe 1982-1990 and it very cool to hear them talk about how they were putting together the vehicles. For example: the Joe Vamp was the design after the Lamborghini Cheetah which was a prototype vehicle that was designed for the the Army Trails that Delivered the Humvee. The same thing happen with the Sky Striker which was the F-14 Tomcat, Cobra Rattler was A-10 Warthog and the Conquest X-30 was designed after a NASA and Grumman X-29 which was studying Forward Swept Wing and Canards ( Small Wings in front of the the main Wings) Technology. The Screwed up thing is that the people that are RUNNING the G.I. Joe Line today have NO IDEA of what the Military is using today and that is why many of the new Classified and small format figures do not look right and they are all basically redoing the Original Figures but with slight color changes to their uniforms.

      I can tell you for a FACT that during my time in Uniform I meet and served with a few people that looked like they just steeped out of a G.I. Joe figure box by the way their uniforms were setup and they carried themselves. Some of this people were Marines a few had the Gung-Ho Attitude and some had the Leatherneck, some were SEALs like Wetsuit but the majority of SEALs were more like Torpedo but everyone was a quite Professional that worked hard and we played even harder!
      The one that was the coolest to meet was a Navy Master Chief that that had the same voice and acted very similar to Shipwreck and was very OLD School and he was the Senior Instructor at the School House when I got my Small Arms Instructor qualification. He as a West Coast Sailor that spend allot of time in the Pacific doing West-Pac Cruises on Destroyers and Cruisers and loved to Drink and fight in his early days but he had a good Chief that took him under his wing and guided him to get his career on track and started to get his qualifications and moved thru the ranks very quickly. This Master Chief also spent a part of his career teaching new sailors how to shoot at a Target in open water while going 60 MPH in a Harbor Patrol Boat which is something that is better than ANY Roller-coaster you ever tried specially with 2-4 foot seas that is a FUN RIDE!

    Not a fan of either ARAH or Classified Shipwreck the old sailor outfit just didn't/doesn't work for me . Like you I watched the cartoon, but was comic oriented in my lore. I like Shipwreck in a few of the more modern cartoons. I'm hoping they make a more modern look for him; otherwise, he can go down with his Shipwreck.

    I believe Shipwreck was in the series where they tried to give every figure an emotional support animal. 😂

    not a pirate, Navy Sailor.

      I know he's not actually a pirate, I mean he feels like a pirate. Hence the parrot on his shoulder and flintlock.

    That picture on the box is so messed up. First off why is there a bicycle on a submarine? Second if those missiles are being fired from the sub they are being fired from the wrong spot on a submarine. Worst cover art!

    • @DestroIsMySpiritAnimal
      @DestroIsMySpiritAnimal  9 місяців тому

      I was trying to remember, is the bicycle a cartoon reference or something?

    • @bear11charlie41
      @bear11charlie41 9 місяців тому

      Not sure, just makes Hasbro look stupid. It’s also the fact that my Dad was a submariner so I get a little critical with stuff like this.

    • @bear11charlie41
      @bear11charlie41 9 місяців тому

      Found out the bicycle is referencing a PSA Shipwreck was in about not stealing someone’s bike.
