  • We pit the Steel Brigade Figure against himself. Comparing the Original GI Joe Steel Brigade mail-away figure with the GI Joe Classified Series Steel Core two-pack.
GI Joe Steel Brigade AKA Steel Corp are the RED SHIRTS of the G.I. Joe Team. They are what you want if you want Cobra to have someone to kill off.
The new Classified Steel Corp set comes with a female and a male GI joe because -- FEMINISM. Girls can now also be killed by Storm Shadow.
These figures come with blast effects so you can use them to create Action Figure photography
The Steel Brigade was originally a mail-away figure that used flag points.

If you had an OG Steel Brigade figure, what was their CODENAME?

The female is 100% Movie Scarlett's body. It's just the helmet and shoulder pads give the illusion of being shorter. She's really the same height as Scarlett (all versions so far) Lady J and about the same as Covergirl. The Male is Beachhead's Torso and I think Commando Snake Eyes Legs. Because the Helmet is the head it seems a hair shorter than similar height characters with hats and wearable helmets. It's the same size as Grunt and Stalker for example. Except for the helmet and beret. The only new body parts in this set are the 4 unique heads (2 male 2 female) and the soft rubber overlay pieces. To put things in perspective, pulling out ye olde ruler, the Valaverse Female Steel Brigade figures stand at exactly 6" so in 1/12 scale they would be 6' tall from the boots to the top of the helmet. The Female Steel Corp figure clocks in at an in scale 5'8". Which is normal to tall for an adult human female.

That's true. The female figure size makes sense. It is a bit weird for the male troop builder to be the shortest character. But overall, the set is pretty good. And worth it just for the Jump jet packs

I stopped collecting the year before the Steel Brigade mail away came about, so I didn't have this as a kid. That said, I ordered a few sets. They are expensive, but they are within the average cost of $24 per figure. In terms of, "What were they thinking?" in regards to their size, this is my honest take: Your grunts shouldn't be bigger than your main line characters. That said, they're shorter than the Cobra troopers O_O. So....that sort of puts a lump of poop into my theory. The reality is likely more that they chose figure parts that when combined, made this shorter. The Male is Snake Eyes & Timber Ver2 and Beachhead/Firefly. It doesn't help that the helmet is so small. I mean, would a Classified sized head even fit inside?
I like them, though. The only real disappointment for me is the female figure. The singe joint elbow doesn't work well with gummy joints.

Had one as a kid, named him after myself as he was the first mail away figure I ever got and if I remember correctly he *also* came with a set of dog tags that I definitely wore everywhere as a kid for quite some time. On that nostalgia hit, and also because of those jet packs, the Steel Corps 2 pack was basically an insta-buy for me when it went up for presale.

They deluxe set is called Steel Corps. Hasbro lost the TM for Steel Brigade to Valaverse. I did not have the original ARAH version. The 3.75 are expensive for a complete one, so having the Classified version is nice. I like the Action Force version of the Steel Brigade too. I feel the two lines go well together. I hope we see more versions of Steel Corps (like Night Force).

Yeah, I intentionally refused to call them steel corp, because we all know what they really are. I havent gotten any Valaverse figures yet. Are they worth it?

@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal I feel they are worth it. I have been collecting them since series one. The line had some problems with series one. One weapon in particular has a weak spot that may snap the stock off if you drop it or force it into a stressed pose. It happens to be the rifle that comes with Steel Brigade, so I replace it with one from the weapons packs. The joints used to be Very stiff, but that has gotten a Lot better since series one. Series one vests are also difficult to put back onto the figure if you remove them.
Valaverse provides replacement parts or repair if a figure does some how break right out of the box. There is an issue with the first run Scarab hip being weak on some figures. Some first run female figures have weak ankles. Removing a head for a swap may pull the neck ball out of the neck. All of these issues are Rare.
I customize my Action Force figures with head, torso, leg, and boot swaps. I warm the figures first and have had very few problems. The boots are a real pain to get off and on. I have only had one Steel Brigade rifle snap. I have had minor trouble putting the vests back onto the series one figures with the figure put together. I usually replace the vests while I have the torso pulled apart though and have no problems that way.
In comparison, I have had loose neck, torso, waist, knee, and/or ankle joints on some of my G.I. Joe Classified figures. That really only effects poses though. Cover Girl and Zarana both have a loose bicep issue which may result in the arm falling off during posing. Some of the weapons have come out of the box warped. I do not customize my G.I. Joe figures (beyond replacing some of the weapons with Valaverse ones), so I have no idea if they can handle being pulled apart and put back together.
Note: I collect Both G.I. Joe Classified and Action Force, so any fan boys from either side can piss off with your Hasbro vs. Valaverse nonsense. Both lines have flaws. Deal with it.

You must live in the stone age. Look at what marauder inc can do with 4 inch figures. You also forgot the poc/30th/40th steel brigade figure. And the really cool thing about those they work will 80% of all existing gijoe vehicules. 6 inch look nice to put 1 figure in a glass display case, not as a troop builder, not a vehicules figure, not to play with, not to buld diorama's with. It's actually boring when thinking of it. Figures was only half the battle in the 80's.

Well, yeah. I made the point that overall, the little guys are better because of the vehicles--but in the case of the OG steel Brigade figure, it's just not that good.
