What do traction bars do? Do CalTracs work? How to adjust CalTracs? Well today we are the quest to answer all these questions. My 95’ Ford Lightning has really bad wheel hop & axle wrap. I purchased Calverts CalTracs hoping to solve my problem.

awesome truck and great video - thanks for taking the time to show EVERYTHING step by step!
Thanks
That was very intuitive, clear & well put together. You made it look easy.
Thanks & cheers from Australia😊
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching & cheers 🍻
Thanks for the install video man👍🏻 I’d like to get a set for my 09 F250, I like the low key look and concept of the Cal-Tracs better than the long bars!
Yeah these are so much better than long bars in my opinion. Thanks for watching
Man, watching all your videos is definitely giving me motivation to start working on mine again. I have a white '95 Lightning. Good stuff brotha!
Awesome bro glad I can be a motivation for you. If it’s not enough to keep you going I’d be happy to purchase it from you 😁
@@JJBanuelos Hah! It holds sentimental value, so if I ever decide to sell it, it would be a pretty penny. I get asked about 4 times a month if its for sale
Awesome job brother, it looks amazing! I agree I’m not a fan of the look of long bars, you made the right choice! Thank you so much for posting this, you are giving me so many ideas and great tutorials....but you’re also going to kill my account doing it 😂.
Thanks man! Haha yeah I think I need to slow down on the parts list. Keep them videos coming also your close to that 1k!
@@JJBanuelos thanks bro, a lot of guys dig the obs 4.9 straight 6 vids I did , and a lot like me are interested in the 1st gen lightning rebuild I’m trying to do that you are straight killing on your channel...but my most viewed is my damn French bulldog being a goofball. Saw you got one, they are a trip!! Bought mine in 2018 from a breeder in Dayton Texas but ended up picking him up from right past the Texas Louisiana border...long story short you will love that dog, they are a one of a kind 😂.
Seriously good job on the video!
Amazing truck. Love everything you have done to it. Are you willing to sell the original slapper bars you removed or just the original bump stops off of it. I have a 93 and am missing those bumpers on my slapper leaf.
This is awesome! Good stuff!
Awesome build. I have a power dyne been thinking about putting it on my 97 OBS 7,5
Looks awesome! Good stuff bro.
Thanks bro! 👊🏼
great channel! love the truck
Great video bro. Love the truck. Have a 22 F150.
Great Video man! Everything was easy to see and explained well. What would you suggest for a 4x4 chevy 6.6 Duramax Diesel long bed lifted 3 inches?
Thanks. Honestly man you’d be best to call them up directly to get the correct info for you truck. I’d hate to tell you the wrong thing.
i should use like a POR paint over rust type but haha ive fell in love with this spray paint i buy,its awesome you can paint your whole project all at once and no runs, its rust oleum epoxy and its in a green & white can it has a picture of a refrigerator on it and says appliances on it,haha its good stuff, now as far as how long it will last i dont know yet bro.try it on some project, walmart has it.well your a bigger man than i am,i didnt have any problems at all removing old bushings, once the small piece was removed i used my jigsaw and made cuts in the rubber then knocked it out with a big socket & hammer, but i couldnt get the new big bushing to go in,so i took it down the rd and had them pressed in,my back was killing me haha.i will be done tomorrow, cant wait to see how it does.im also replacing all my sway bar bushings and end links in front with polyurthane,i was going to do the rear but the guy at caltracs said i didnt need to after installing these so who knows.well take it easy bro.
Damn you bro….I pulled the trigger today and bought some caltracs plus some 305/45r18 drag radials today because of you 😂. Cant wait to actually use them
Sweet! You’re going to love them. Definitely a must on these trucks
Dude, I just stopped by to check out the product, no intent purchase and install myself, already running another product (Southside, no longer available). Ended up watching your entire video....informative, well done and the finish product...primo.....Great look, hope they work as well as look.......later Ford brother
Thanks bro!! 👊🏼
Great video! What wheels are you running?
i remember those trucks back in the day,i had a 96 s10 with a vette LT1 swap in it haha with air ride from the best around, texas metal haha so i had a 4 link, the thing was mmm anyways,my bars will be here tomorrow for my LS swapped and cammed 05 blazer, nice video thanks for taking the time to make it.you should have painted your leaf springs while you had them off haha im ocd about stuff like that im going to,i found some awesome paint that dries quick to and no runs.
Yeah your prob right I should have painted the leafs while i had them out. I have some KBS paint that I should have put on them. What kind do you use?
Looks awsome! Dude, your truck is amazing. Here in southamerica we have the brasilian version of f250 but they came just with MWM diesel engines but the body is way close to lghtning, there are a couple of F1000 lowed by airbags, but nothing like this. Congrats!
Appreciate it that man! Thanks for watching!
Looks and works good that impact comes in handy 👌
Thanks! Yeah the Milwaukee impact is a life saver. Hands down a must when working on any vehicle.
Very cool. Hope to do this to my 84 ford ranger when I put the 8.8 in it.
Nice will definitely be worth it!
That came out really nice. I had the long bars on mine and it was really close to the side exhaust. The truck wasnt lowered though. Great content
Yeah I think long bars would have interfered with the exhaust. Thanks for watching & the support!
Great video and explanation
Appreciate it that! 🍻
I have an 88 Chevy C 1500 I'm sure It's about the same install.
I will highly recommend getting a Leave Spring replacement bolt because they come with grease dese zirts on them they are $15 a piece but what's $60 when you're literally not using a cutoff wheel
I got some steel plates that I drilled and bolted the front half of the leafs together solid. That and new shocks fixed my wheel hop on my 95
That’s cool. Hey whatever works to eliminate that wheel hop.
@@JJBanuelos I forgot to add that I also replaced the rubber front leaf spring bushing with Delrin. It rode a little stiffer, but not bad
@@edjackson4389 nice thanks for that tip!
glad to see more first gen content
Thanks will try to make as much of it as I can. 👊🏼
Such a beautiful truck!!!
Appreciate it 👊🏼
With great power comes great responsibility 😉. Or traction issues 😆 My little girl has the barbie fishing rod I'm impressed he wasn't under your feet the whole time. Mine normally are
I try not to have him get to close to me when I have a vehicle on jack stands or else he would be there right with me haha
@@JJBanuelos won't be long n he will be in there with you. My old man got ma started with swapping out a points distributor for a hei back in the 80s first thing I learned was 18436572😁 I remember him touting to his friends and having me recite the fireing order of a SBC
Are you using 3" lowering dream beams in the front ? New to the channel. Awesome truck man
Yes sir. It’s DJM 3/4 drop
Your truck is very nice 💯👌 What are the measurements of your rims?
Yeah I just noticed wheel hop bad giving it the juice after a turn on my lightning and these are a must. Thanks for step by step install brotha will definitely come in handy once I order them. And are these the Low pro part # 7104 or regular cal tracs for these part number 7100 off the calvertracing website
No these are the 7100 the low pro ones are only if you have axle flipped it.
Hello when do you buy the kit for make low the truck end the back send the link pless
Check your pinion angle when lowering the truck
Good video the only thing I would is the bolt you used to clamp the leafs what grade is it and I would use a grade 8 the other might give some probs later on
Thanks yeah not a grade 8 bolt but definitely not to worried about it as the U-bolts are also keeping the springs intact & together. Thanks for watching.
Great video, nice truck.
Thanks 🍻
I put these on my truck and now my truck makes cranking noises when I push down on the bumper and basically when I'm driving around cracking noises from the back rear I think where the shackles are . any tips??
I like these, it will keep from breaking things, but my get you a ticket.... I think you'd want the truck in the ground with weight in the driver seat in order to adjust bars... jmo. At least I would...
End and how much did you download from the front and where did you buy the kit too
What did you have to do to get it to work without doing the axle flip
Long bars would have worked just fine and helped reduce the wheel hop. Had them on my 94 L with the second Gen style side exit exhaust
True but I just didn’t like the look of them & the fact you can’t adjust them was also a big no for me.
What is the purpose of the metal bushings??? Doesn’t the OEM bushings do the same thing?
I’ve got a rusty crusty red 93 lightning.
They are fun trucks.
Hell yeah man! 🤘🏼
Thanks man 👍
No problem 👍
Awesome truck what size pro charger was that ? , and are those the actual cal tracs for the truck or for the mustang?
Appreciate it man! It’s a PowerDyne BD-11a. It’s an old supercharger they don’t make them anymore but you can still find them on some websites
Not a ford fan. But your 1st gen is beautiful truck! Nice job👍
Thank you! 🍻
That’s a nice truck 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
Great job
Thanks!
Whats the wheel and tire size in the rear
Hey JJ, what headers do you run on your Lightning? I am trying to find a set for my ‘93 my son and I just picked up.
I’m running some custom headers that were once made for a mustang.
What is your wheel and tire combo
Looks great.👍👍
Personally I dont want that forward bellcrank hanging down. Looks .....🤔🙄
Yeah I agree
Very nice truck!!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Nice truck bro i got a 93 f150 xlt and i been wanting to drop it but don't know were to start
Just go look for a complete drop kit like from DJM. I have they're 3/4" drop
Damn that's a nice truck I wish I had something like that
Thanks. Yeah it’s come a long ways from when I got it.
Dude awesome!
Thanks buddy!
Update: finally got this kit! Will be starting install tomorrow!
Whats the wheel and tire specs
Nice truck💪💪💪
Appreciate it 👊🏼
For someone who dosen't have a good impact and a C clamp press. Take the leaf spring outside and light the bushing on fire with map gas. Wack it with a hammer. Just pay attention cause they come out really easy and will go flying on fire. The metal sleeve is easy to get out with a chisle and hammer.
Yes that’s definitely a way to do it. Burning rubber is another obstacle in itself lol but it’s definitely another method
I wouldn’t use grease, I recommend using anti seize. Grease tends to get hard. Each to there own.
It’s one of those things that you would get ten different answers if you ask ten different people. Thanks for the tip. 👍
Did it clear the exhaust and mine is still in the shop. Had a terrible experience with djm, but really limited on parts for these trucks.
Yes it did clear the exhaust. What went wrong with the DJM kit?
@@JJBanuelos the brackets that hold the flip kit opened up and caused my axel to sit crooked. Tried calling said I had to email and so far had one response over a 2 week period.
Link for caltracs?
Do you have a video on that in dash radio setup?
Yup I sure do.
Looks good. Is the front lowered? If so how?
Appreciate it, yes the whole truck is lowers using DJM lowering kit
That's a baddass truck my brother
Thanks man!
Will these fit a regular f-150 single cab short bed rwd with a 3/5 djm drop
Is the 3/5 kit the axle flip kit? If so you’ll have to get there 7104 model.
Have you noticed some rattling noise coming from the caltracs when you’re driving on the road?
Noise from them no, from the rest of the old ass truck yes haha
Nice 🏆what size tires do you have on your truck 👍🥇
The one in the video is a 305/40r18 I know have a 345/35r18 😎
Getting your pinion angle correct would be a good idea you got too much positive pinion angle on that rear end 2° of negative pinion angle would help that truck bite a whole lot better
Yeah I definitely agree I’ll have to see about shimming it to get it right. Thanks for the input
I'm not trying to be a jerk but I suggest getting a lapel mic. That's a pretty awesome truck!!
I’ve been looking at getting a wireless mic just not sure which one to pull the trigger on.
@@JJBanuelos I picked up an inexpensive one from Amazon that works pretty well for $25 and use my cell to record the audio. I'm no expert btw...lol
This is my first time I hear about this mod and I was wondering if it's only for a dropped trucks
Nope these can be installed on any solid axle vehicle that is experiencing axle hop.
I found the kit for my truck but I'm not sure if it's the whole kit, it only shows one side
Does the caltrac kit come with new u bolts or did u buy them separate?
Yes they come with new u bolts & hardware
Cleanest gen 1 Lightning 💯
Appreciate it that!
My truck just frys the tires off through all 3 gears, up in smoke, can feather the gas run 12 lbs in tires but nothing helps, just like driving on ice ,84 Chevy c 10 w/ 450 hp 383 ,will this fix mine
It definitely can help. It’ll add more downforce to the axle to help plant the power down.
What gears you running?
You don’t have a lowering block? I have a 2 inch but want it lower I think ima going to take it off
I do not.
Do you get to keep your low profile with them? I got finished on a 3/4” drop on my s10 and sounds like I’m tearing apart my suspension again lol
Yeah I even lowered it a bit more afterwards & it ride great. S10 prob built a little different in the rear then these
@@JJBanuelos that’s awesome, thanks for responding
@@braedentrebell3718 of course let me know if you have any more questions. 👊🏼
Wats the part num# for those exact caltracs? I have a 94 svt lightning I’m working on
These are there 7100
@@JJBanuelos I appreciate it 👍🏻
2 years later. Bars making any noise(s) now?
Thanks.
None but then again I really don’t drive it much. Prob has about 500miles on them since then.
Hoch much Offset does this Wheels have in Front and Rear with the Adapters?
With the 1” adapters the wheels have +20 both front & rear.
@@JJBanuelos Really + 20 ? Not - 20 ?
I would say they will rub at the inner side with +20 ?!
Yup +20 just double checked.
Where did u get the Caltracs have the same truck and the same problem
I went through CalTracs website to order them.
@@JJBanuelos Thxs man truck is sick
It would be nice if a company made four link bolt in systems for factory leaf spring equipped vehicles. Or even 3 link. And not with the air ride bullshit.
I did see one company that was selling a bolt in kit like you mentioned. It was expensive I want to say like around 5k
Who makes that ratchet you used on u bolts
I believe the one I used was from Matco. Had it for many years. There’s definitely others that make some by now.
what wheels are those they are nice
There just some knock offs to the CCW’s style
You think these would fit a 96?
Yup don’t see why they shouldn’t basically same setup as mine.
Cool but word to the wise get some correct shank bolts. There's a reason the oem bolts don't have longer threads that makes them weaker because less material!!!
Very true thanks for the advice! 👊🏼
"Once we get our adjustments on these bars, go ahead and tighten up Deez Nutz!"
I need to know what time those are
What do you mean time?
Sorry rims
@@JJBanuelos sorry I meant rims
Awesome truck!
Thank you! 👊🏼
Lll
@@jamesrademacher4866 🤘🏼
i prefer mild rake look,
I thought I did also till I leveled it out & it looks great.
Who did the body work? Thumbs up 👍 👌 👏
A buddy of mine. Then I paint corrected the whole thing.
@@JJBanuelos Your truck is "a sight to behold"
@@refugiorod appreciate it bro 😎
😁
ccw classics on the obs thats fucking cool
👊🏼
Where’s the lightning now?
Chillin in the garage, I took it out the other day. I need to make a video on what’s the plan for it soon
i keep getting ads to the Spider-Man movie :)
Wow that’s good all I ever get is tampon ads 😂
@@JJBanuelos you need to start watching more truck building videos :)
How do people expect this to work?
What do you mean? These work on trucks that have over 1000hp. It helps with axle wrap & wheel hop.
@JJ Banuelos no no no,, this only works with coil springs.. when traction bars are used with leaf springs they move up and down and the mounts move in and out putting the force on the frame and prevents the leaf spring from supporting the vehicle property, it can be used as a quick fix for drag cars to prevent axle wrap when launching as they dont carry weight or passangers but may snap/twist the frame
Can I send you a Alberta license plate for your wall
Man that would be awesome! Send me some info to my email. JJbanuelos84@gmail.com
O course it’s boosted
😎 it’s definitely a different truck boosted
Cow tracks FTW.
💪🏻
Too bad you didn’t show a burnout before and after from the outside.
Right! Maybe next time
Not a drop of antiseize in your Dad's garage is there. Or he has never shown you where it is.
Some on the ball joint threads helps alot, and for when you installed the sleeve inside the leag spring bushing hole. That's like first grade mechanic stuff.
Sorry bud not my dads garage it’s my house. Yes I do have some antiseize but no need on mine since it lives in the garage & doesn’t stay outside to rust. The leaf spring bushing did get the supplied grease on it before I pressed it in. Thanks for the input 👍🏻
Please nobody do what he’s doing in this video like removing the bump stops to allow the axle to slap the frame. That’s the most fucked up way of “fixing” clearance issues I’ve seen
I haven’t had any issues with the axle hitting the frame at all unless I plan on going over some whoops in the desert then I’ll have a problem.
