  • XH558 has now completed her display commitments for 2012. Despite the difficulties experienced due to the loss of two engines early in the year, she has performed nearly two dozen public displays and countless flypasts. In addition, she has recently made a tour to honour and thank many companies without whose support none of her activities could be undertaken. It will soon be time for Taff and his team to undertake the routine winter servicing to ensure that she is in tip-top condition for the 2013 season.
The winter servicing and post service testing programme to be ready for next season is estimated to cost £800,000. As of mid November, the appeal is roughly half way to the initial target of raising £400,000 before the end of the year. An additional £250,000 will be needed by the end of March, and the balance of £150K by the end of June. Therefore, the winter service programme is currently suspended until further funds can be raised. Please visit www.vulcantothe... to find out how you can help keep the world's last airworthy Avro Vulcan flying. The quicker the target can be met, the earlier that XH558 can take to the skies again next year for what is currently planned to be her final year of airborne display.

When I was at school I was in the RAF Cadets, and on one summer camp we went to RAF Coningsby, where they were flying Vulcans. All the crew loved them and were proud of them. One of the most beautiful aircraft ever built, and probably provided some of the background to Concorde's delta wings. I've contributed previously and again this year - not much, but as the slogan says "Every little helps"

This is a fantastic video. I have just donated. Keep it flying please. If you have never stood at the end of a runway when the Vulcan goes into a vertical climb, you have never lived.

I love the Vulcan the first time I saw her was at farnbourgh air show (I think in 2007 not sure) that howl she makes made me wana see her every year for as long as she flew but to now no that she may never fly again ( God forbid that) makes me sad so every pound coin I earn at work I will donate to her and I hope she will continue to fly in the future. Please help keep her flying everyone

Without Doubt our Greatest Bomber Aircraft still flying today, & the greatest achievement of AV-ROE, if only they were still with us & making Aircraft today.
Thumbs up if you want to see the formation of a "Cold War Memorial Flight"
    (all three V-Bombers / TSR-2 / Lightning / Canberra for example).

hadn't heard about the Branson offer either, however even if there was substance to it, as I undertand, part of the Heritage Lottery funding was the requirement for 558 to carry a representative livery, meaning no adverts. The few test logos stuck to the inside of the bomb bay doors are apparently OK because they aren't on the outside.

What everybody who wants to see this machine keep flying has to understand is that neither the Government or the National Lottery or Richard Branson or anybody else is going to magically come to it's rescue. If you want to save the Vulcan and keep it flying, it really is down to you to send the trust some money. Doesn't have to be much - £5 will be enough if lots of people do the same! Don't let it stop you from giving to other causes but please put a little aside for this British icon!

From Canada. I have donated several times. As one of the CWH Lancaster crew I know what it costs to keep flying. Lots of small donations can be just as great as one big sponsor so dip into your wallet or PayPal account and do your bit. Anywhere in the world can use PayPal so go from here to the Vulcan to the Sky web site and drop a fiver or two.

accountz99 and malt22 - thanks very much for helping. As you rightly say, every little does help!
zoso11 - the answer is rather a lot. The VTTS trust suggest the annual operating cost is in the region of £1.8M!
Hornetfodder - 558 has previously been given lottery money, it was a struggle to get that because at the time the project was a little outside of their scope. Yes, they fund some 'interesting' projects at times, however it is up to them to decide what it is used for.

@redhotbarrell Thanks redhot. Where did you hear that About R. Branson? I am a member of the VTSC and it's not something I have ever heard before. I've always been led to believe that big corporate sponsorship was pretty much a dead end due to the negative connotations (nuclear bomber, British, hugely environmentally unfriendly etc etc) TIA

as beautiful as this aircraft looks without any sponsors on, i think, should the day come if we do not have any sponsors left, that they should seriously take up on the branson offer. come on, a small red V next to the ejection stickers may blend in a bit :P
i wish the RAF could sponsor it....considering they got a good few advertising logos already on there :)

@BBQFanNo1 Actually the General Dynamics F-111 Raven/Ardvark is no longer flying, as it was retired years ago (in the US & Australia).
Besides the F-111 is not worthy of sharing the same list as "XH-558" or the B1-B Lancer*
(which is much more impressive/capable than the 111 ever was, & much better value too as the 111's development was a nightmare for the USAF / RAAF & RAF* [which pulled out]).
Plus F-14's & F-15's are still flying all over the world (Iran for example has multiple Tomcats').

You know nothing about the F-111. It was and still is an aircraft unmatched in many areas. Yes, it may have had early problems, but what aircraft hasn't? Don't hate on it because you feel like the TSR2 would have been a better aircraft. Go complain the British Government about why the cancelled it.

Hi Hornetfodder, In reply to your posting. I find it offensive in the language that you use, and it is also most likely inaccurate. You also seem to have forgotten that XH558 would not be flying at all if it wasn't for a lottery grant. It would be best for all if you kept your homophobic remarks to yourself and put your energy's into fund raising to make sure XH558 flies next year.

I kind of get what homefodder is driving at, but there are better ways to convey that. I was praying id win the euro millions tonight so i could go, ok i have 80million, how much do you need until 2014 when she's all worn out, on the basis of a flight in the cockpit as payment ofcourse, but alas.
It would be a dissapointing end to what the people at the VTTS have acheived if she has to stop early, but she took off just as britains money was crash landing. Still, its a roll over next friday!
