Can we talk about the fact that Darren is actually so logical and not biased when it comes to Andrew because we all know he killed 5 people and they all deserved to live and that was very tragic. But the thing is you have to see both sides and Darren does that. I love him honestly
His acting made me feel sorry for Andrew. Andrew just wanted to please others and got lost in the meantime. What he did wasn’t right but he was a broken man
Kristina Ackley As all killers are. I think I never stopped being simply terrified of him. Maybe the only time I felt different was when the ex-military officer (I’m blanking on his name!) kissed him on the cheek and said love you buddy. I felt his perspective of Andrew deeply that he was just another goofy, high maintenance guy.
Pingu Nootson I guess having mental health issues myself I can see how easily those thoughts can consume you. He just wanted to be loved and excepted. It was very tragic for everyone. Again not saying what he did was right.
I've read Orth's book, Vulgar Favors, an investigative journalism where that ACS series was based on.
I get to understand the side of the victims, as well as the side of Andrew Cunanan who was suffering from mental health disorder that was even triggered by his drug abuse.
Andrew was used by many of his friends/acquaintances who were "enablers." Many of them (including Jeff and David) used Andrew. There were San Diego friends who said that Jeff owed Andrew several thousand dollars because, just like Andrew, Jeff was also addicted to expensive stuffs.
If they really were true friends of Andrew, for old times' sake, they could have just supported him to change for the better, for an honest and healthy living. That's what friends are for. Many of them admitted that Andrew helped them a lot financially and emotionally. He did care for them, even visited them when they were sick. Andrew helped them to not feel alone and miserable being closeted homosexuals. As long as Andrew could, he made them feel happy always.
From Vulgar Favors book:
"The farewell dinner was a somewhat somber affair, as if Andrew were holding his own wake. Arthur Harrington, who, along with Higgins, brought a couple of bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne, claiming that if it hadn’t been for Andrew no one at the table would have even gotten to know any of the others. “He was the glue that held us all together.” Eads recalls, “Two people made that comment. Andrew helped them not to feel alone.”
If Andrew was a bad influence, then as a "real" friend, be a good influence to Andrew. At least, try to exert effort to be one.
But instead, Jeff and David just turned their backs on Andrew, particularly during the time when Andrew was (financially) hard up and depressed. They didn't even care and dare to talk to Andrew about it. They just took advantage of Andrew, they undeniably did benefit from being associated with Andrew at some point. Both Jeff and David even let Andrew feel that they didn't want Andrew around, they maybe even have said hurtful words to Andrew before the tragedy happened.
However, it is still a sin to kill people. Andrew is still the culprit in this incident. In 1997, we just hoped that Andrew asked for forgiveness from God before he committed suicide.
FROM VULGAR FAVORS BOOK:
"Andrew had tried several times in the recent past to extend his stays in Minneapolis, but Jeff had always told him no. If Jeff didn’t want to have anything to do with him, and if David was rejecting him once again, Andrew was cornered. He had lavished time, attention, and money on both of them; he could not bear to think that he had been used. Now the two men he most cared for in the world were turning their backs on him, banishing him to struggle alone, insecure, depressed, and overweight. It was all their fault. They were forcing him to expose the sham of his grandiosity like a mangy peacock."
It's so weird how here he is normal, but charismatic, and on the show he is so charismatic and charming that it's not genuine and he comes across as a narcissistic pathological liar. Darren's got that role down to an art.

I met Andrew Cunanan while he was taking a break from killing Mr Miglan and the police never even came by the place I worked to question any of us . And yes he was very nice but spooky.

I worked at a restaurant a block from the Miglan home . The thing that has always intrigued me is that the police never bothered questioning any of us who worked at the many restaurants in that area . It's as though there was a cover up FOR Cunanan . I only figured out who I'd waited on a week later when his photo appeared in the paper .

He set off all kinds of red flags by his behavior . He was well dressed and well spoken and calm until he wasn't . Of all the thousands of people I waited on at that place all those years ago his is the only order I remember in its entirety along with the bill total and tip .

Although I am obsessed with the whole show (I've watched this season over four times already) and love Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, I remember learning about race in my Race and Class in Media course in college and how Hollywood gets criticized for white-washing, and, although Darren Criss is, just as Andrew Cunanan, mixed White and Filipino, there seems to be a little bit of "white-washing" going on. Darren Criss is clearly ethnically ambiguous, but he doesn't look East Asian at all as compared to Andrew Cunanan. Then, we have the younger version of Andrew Cunanan, played by Edouard Holdener, who looks way more East Asian than Darren Criss. Just an observation, and kinda wondered if anybody agreed. :)
darren criss is filipino-american, as was andrew cunanan. while there is a great deal of whitewashing in hollywood, i don't think casting darren in this show is a case of that

Darren, it is called being a psychopath..of course he was "friendly likable talkative"... he has 147 IQ... which he used very "good"
It's interesting in a case like Andrew's, though, because there genuinely doesn't seem to be any indication that he was born with psychopathic traits. The more I learn and think about it, the more I think that he probably had something akin to Borderline Personality Disorder, with plenty of narcissism (no doubt largely contributed by his highly narcissistic father) mixed in.
In any case, if the typical conception of psychopathy is that a psychopathic person doesn't have real emotions but only learns to fake them well.. I'd actually almost argue that it seems like Andrew was the opposite. Don't get me wrong, he was *absolutely* severely devoid of empathy in particular by the time he went on his killing spree, but the impression I get (from ACS Versace at least) is that his actions, brutal as they were, were stemming from an immense amount of genuine hurt and anger. So while his ability to empathize with others completely shut down at some point, it was very much emotions (not any lack thereof) that led him to go off the ledge into psychosis in the first place.
So yeah... I don't actually doubt that he may well have been a genuinely good kid growing up. I mean, his father ingrained such narcissism in him that I'm sure that was there from early on, but in terms of the lack of empathy, I don't think everyone who becomes violent and devoid of empathy is always born that way. Sometimes, I'd imagine, it's a perfect storm of psychological instability, upbringing, and social surroundings that converges to set a person who might otherwise have been fine down that path.

He was obviously more emotional than his father and had the potential to truly fall in love, unlike his dad who just saw numbers when he looked at people. Then the way he killed himself... isn’t that kind of rare for psychopaths?
