Casteism in Tamil Nadu’s classrooms: Justice Chandru speaks to Dhanya Rajendran

Justice Chandru committee was formed by the Tamil Nadu government in August 2023 after two Dalit children in Nanguneri - 17-year-old Chinnadurai and his 13-year-old sister - were attacked by six classmates of Chinnadurai, who belonged to a dominant caste group. The committee submitted its 600-page report to the Tamil Nadu Government on June 18, 2024. The committee found casteism entrenched in classrooms and has given several recommendations.
