    Thanks for this! About the SOCD cleaning, I talked to the rep at the Razer booth at EVO, and he said that since they were partnered with Capcom, they had to do the CPT-style cleaning at least for now. He said they knew that not everybody wanted SF6-style, but that was the market they were going for and they might possibly provide a way to change it later -- but they didn't have a way at launch.

    • @HushMySweet1

      Hmm...that's interesting. I see where they are coming from if they are partnered with Capcom and want no issues with a Kitsune being disqualified for having incorrect SOCD cleaning or whatever. Still, would be a nice feature to add for those who aren't all in on Capcom games. Thanks for watching!

    I absolutely love my Kitsune. I have a self build with crown buttons and the audio difference alone is night and day. This is the first leverless I actually feel comfortable playing around non-gamers. The optical switches are also a great feature given how good they've been in PC gaming. I do agree that we need an acrylic top for art and hope the third party market fills the gap if Razer decides not to prioritize it.

      Oh yeah, I hope this review didn't portray me as hating it. I think it's a fine controller, but not my ideal one if I'm throwing around that kind of money. What do you mean comfortable playing it around non-gamers? Like other sticks cause embarrassment? Anyway, thanks for watching.

      @@HushMySweet1 The value proposition is definitely a pain point and I thought the review was more than fair. As for the comfort around others, my rig is in the same room as my wife's computer and she can hear most of my sticks even over noise canceling headphones. This presents understandable issues when she's watching a show or playing a game and hears the clacking of my leverless over everything else. However, the Kitsune is whisper quiet allowing me to lab without worrying whether I'm being noisy. She does game a fair amount, which makes her more lenient towards the noise than most, but I framed the statement for those with significant others outside the gaming space.

    This was the best review I’ve seen for these. Thank you a lot. I’m still on the fence though, if it was $50 cheaper I’d buy it. Not much of a leverless user due to it being hard for me to catch on to it. I have a bnb leverless that’s has less than 3 hours of use but the larger buttons on this one makes me feel like I would use it as the smaller 24mm button just seem too small for me.

    Loved your review, the real draw for this is the optical arcade style buttons, nothing more, and if they are buttery smooth then they are worth the 300+ dollars, especially considering that on the black market ebay or anywhere else, people charge an arm and a leg for optical arcade buttons, someone even tried to charge me 1000 for 1 button!!! It could use more buttons in better places and it could have better aesthetics, but all that matters is that butter baby!!!

    Great review. I feel like it's okay for $300 but not spectacular. It would have been nice if they did some clean diffuse lighting around the buttons or, like you said, an extra button or 2 that you could map on the fly. I don't understand how their coating is so bad on this. I have a Razer laptop and a ton of their mice and they've really stepped up their coatings in the last few years. The optical switches are also just okay. They're about as smooth as other low profile mechanical switches (choc, gateron ks, cherry LP) but not as smooth as a standard MX style switches.

    Thank you for the video. I honestly feel the same way, I’ve been using only levered fightsticks as they are easier for my hands, and after I got a qanba obsidian I never really wanted another stick until I saw this. Very, very nice, comprehensive look at the Kitsune. While I really like that Razer are getting more involved with fighting games and are pushing the hitbox style (I use a stick, but it is very easy to see why hitboxes are useful for fighters), there's something about the Kitsune I find... off. I think you pinpointed the smaller, but essential things, like the cheap look and shotty design options, which I personally find very important before I sling out 300$ for gaming equipment.

    optical switches are loved in the rhythm game genre because some models like the wooting allow you to spam click super fast, like moving any amount up will lift and any down will go down. also with those types of switches, you can simulate analog sticks with not-quite key presses.
    this one has none of those features, but it's interesting to see optical switches be implemented.
    also in the gaming mouse community, optical mice switches are absolutely the future. the clicker is easily replaced, lasts a lot longer than normal switches, and has zero bouncing issues unlike metal contacts.

    Well said. Definitely linking people to this review when I see people asking about the Kitsune. I remember when the Panthera Evo came out, the fightstick/modding community was mostly scratching their heads--they felt like Razer took one step forward, two steps back from the original Panthera with some of the choices made with the Evo. The Kitsune feels oddly similar to that situation, except there's no direct Razer product to compare it to...
    For the people that have no urge to tinker and customize or mod their controllers, this will likely serve them pretty well. But I am not one of those people 😅.
    Did you by chance try out any non-fighting games with this? Maybe some Tetris or a 2D side-scroller perhaps? (Does it bypass Sony's "special controller check"? I'm kinda guessing that it does; I was mostly just curious.)

      You can play all PS5 games with this. This is actually a PS5 controller. The other controllers on the market don't work because PCBs and converters work by behaving like a licensed PS4 stick. The devs have to allow you to use a PS4 stick. The Kitsune and Victrix don't have that problem because they're real PS5 controllers. Brook will hopefully achieve full PS5 compatibility soon but it's already been almost 3 years.

    I have a Hitbox and this looks pretty awesome but I want to wait until they have the ability to switch to normal Hitbox SOCD mode. Despite the characters I play (Im a long time Juri main and learning JP) provides no real advantage for D+U=U (charge characters I get have an advantage) I am just more comfortable with it using it for so long. Others like the Victrix Pro FS12 and anything using a modern Brook board (i.e. PS5 version of Fightbox F1/RAC J800B) have firmware updates to allow switching your SOCD mode including turning it off for the latter to allow the game to determine SOCD rules which I feel is a good option to have as that allows the developers to set SOCD rules for their game, though hardware SOCD is a must for older games.
    Right now the Kitsune is locked to U+D=N due to a partnership with Capcom. I guess if they don't have new innovations as this is built specifically for CPT tournament play. They mention they are leaving the door open to deliver a firmware update to allow switching in the future. Personally I would like what you mentioned like better button layouts for drive mechanics but I guess for CPT they seem to want a standard to provide a level playing field.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  7 місяців тому

      Fingers crossed that they will enable it for players like you! And like you said, this is appears to be pretty specific for CPT rules and they wanted a clear standard for this gen. A bit of a shame about the layout being so standard, but I suppose they wanted something tried and true. Ah well, there are a ton of other options with SOCD mode changes and more daring layouts, so it's still a good time to be a fighting game player (and controller enthusiast!). I'm seriously contemplating buying one of these. I priced out what it would cost for me to get a Brooks Fusion, all the sanwa buttons, wiring harnesses, and an enclosure shipped to Canada, and it basically came to the same price as the Kitsune. The benefit of building my own is that it would be compatible with more platforms, but the con is that it would be the same form factor as a tradtional arcade stick.

      One aspect that people forget is that officially licensed means it works on all PS5 games. Brook hasn't cracked the PS5 compatibility yet so their PCBs and converters don't currently work for all games.

    Hello good sir. I'll be honest with you. I haven't played very many fighting games. I've always drifted towards other types of games, but now I'm looking at actually getting into them. (Yes 30 year old just now getting into fighting games) but my question is should I start with a controller like this or maybe one with a joystick or heck just stick to a controller? The other question is did I wait till to late to get into fighting games?

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  10 місяців тому +1

      Hey! I don't think it's too late to ever really get into a genre. Fighting games are easier than ever before in terms of available resources with video guides, character discords, training room features, and frame data information being out in the open. You'll just need deliberate practice and a good "growth-mindset" attitude toward losing, especially in the beginning. I also think that the devs are more mindful of default controller users. SF6, for example, feels pretty good (much better than some past games) on a regular controller. If you have zero arcade experience or have never used a joystick, then I would not recommend starting there. I think all-button controllers CAN be the most precise, but there are little quirks you'll just have to learn. I would pick the device which looks the most fun to use because keeping things fun is going to keep you playing, and if you do that, you'll naturally improve over time. Anyway, good luck!

      Well, I threw an asterisk on that in the vid (and a "Dude" gif) to really drive home that's just my opinion. I'll keep shouting into the void because so few people offer something different than the standard which was set over a dozen years ago. New games bring new opportunities for innovation. • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  4 місяці тому

      I think for that price, that's fair, and doubly so if you are a Cammy main or love optical switches. You also won't hear me saying that it's a terrible device and I think a lot of the true nay-sayers are exaggerating a bit. For $320 (the amount I paid for this), it's a bit of a mixed bag for me personally, and for that amount you could put together a pretty cool custom with your own art and custom layout and what not. And if you wanted a thin, all-button ready to go off-the-shelf, you could go with offerings from Haute42, Mavercade, ArcadePCB, and others (I try to demo lots on this channel so a user can have some context in the sea of offerings, and see what will work best for them). At the end of the day, it comes down to what a user prioritizes in a controller and the systems it needs to be compatible with. But I wouldn't let anyone rain on your parade. PS5 is expensive right now no matter which way you slice it. You can get a Brook PS5 convertor and use lots of different options. But there are PS5 PCBs for Snack Box Micros, for MPress devices (regular and Nano), FightBox, Zappa, and Slab-Mini PS5 edition. You can also use a Brook Fusion board or a PS5 daughterboard upgrade to an existing Brook Universal board if you want to make your own. And then, one of the cheaper ways to net PS5 access is the new PS5 passthrough tech on these GP2040-CE breakout boards (see my last video). If you know what you're doing, you can get it for around $50, but you'll also likely be able to buy complete from a vendor for like $70. Like I said though, there is a heavy PS5 tax if that's the system you need compatibility with (PC players get off easy with much cheaper and more plentiful options). Anyway, good luck in your hunt for the best PS5 device which works for you and your budget.

    For this to cost MORE than a snackbox is just crazy. The boutique/custom/diy market leads to options of similar if not smaller form factor with significantly more options in lighting, button modding, artwork customization, and console compatibility. As of now if you can get your hands on one of the boutique/custom/diy products there's really no reason to to get a kitsune. The button type is interesting, but it's not really possible to say if it's better or worse than senwa/mechanical options. More importantly (and I'm shocked this wasn't mentioned) is the lock for the USBC plug. This feature should simply become industry standard, it's so good.

    Nice to see a review of this. Was looking at it but the main thing that turned me off really was the layout, as you point out it doesn't do anything and as someone who doesn't like that star formation by default just looking at it, it wasn't doing it for me.
    And I am a razer guy...got a keyboard, headset and mouse so I feel their stuff is fairly decent on the whole. I suppose the final nail would be the cheap way of customising, I feel their prior offering of the atrox with a fairly open and welcome approach to customising was neat, would of been nice to see them push that here. We'll see how razer move with it, though they could do with lowering their prices just to be able to offer something that people won't have to question if they can afford it.
    and you know what got you the like? Your bit at the end about how we don't have an option for PS5...oh man...if only...not like anyone has made something like that...I wish there was...welp, I guess we'll never know huh? haha

    • @HushMySweet1

      I just bought direct from Razer. It came out from them faster than a lot of their distributors.

  • @JELIFISH19
    @JELIFISH19 10 місяців тому +1

    It's not $300 plus shipping. Razer, Gamestop, and Amazon all offer free shipping and those are the only places to get it. You have to pay for shipping with the Snackbox Micro which brings the price up to $285. But Razer offers healthcare workers, first responders, teachers, students, and military discounts. I got mine for $255 which makes it one of the cheapest options.
    And one thing that's overlooked when it comes to the competition is that PS5 compatibility hasn't been solved yet. Brook is still working on that. Right now, PS5 compatibility works by acting like a licensed PS5 stick. But not all PS5 games allow legacy controllers including a few fighting games. Most of the games that those unlicensed sticks don't work on have PS4 versions that they would work on. But what happens when companies stop making PS4 versions? What happens when a dev doesn't add legacy controller support?

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  10 місяців тому +2

      When doing a review, I have a finite amount of time to get it out while people still care (and I still felt I was behind just about everyone else). I didn't see the first responder stuff Razer offered or I would have definitely mentioned that. $255 is extremely reasonable. You are also correct in that the shipping was included. My total charge was $320 so I had assumed it was shipping but it turned out to be taxes. I hate misinformation and it hurts me to have included that. Anyway, I was not saying this was a bad stickless offering at all, just more of a mixed bag. Based on what I look for in a controller and my own preferences, I probably don't need to keep one in the collection, but I don't think it's a bad stickless. In regard to the PS5-compatibility stuff, we can speculate different what-if scenarios all day, but I don't want to help normalize spending $300 on mid level controllers (my stance is the same with Qanba and anyone else). Thanks for watching and commenting all the same (I'm cool with people disagreeing with me, it's all just my opinion at the end of the day).

      These are Razer-branded optical switches; they don't have pins underneath like you'd expect with usual switches, but they have the same footprint as a standard choco low profile one. Thanks for watching.

    Some some things to remember and take i to account
    1. The price tag is very standard for ps5 compatible devices
    2. This is an official PS5 fight stick, so there's 0 chance of an update intentionally preventing it from working
    3. Due to it being official, there might be limits on what you can and can't add to it. Sonys is not big on letting devs of any kind, making cool stuff for their console. ( just look at the heavy mod restriction when console skyrim got mod access)

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  9 місяців тому

      Standard, but fairly artificial imo. I get it though, they want to gatekeep and upcharge for the official-labeled stuff. I suppose if people are paying this, then good for them. There are lots of options out there these days though.

      @D00ML0RD1 9 місяців тому

      @HushMySweet1 ehh, not really. If you buy all the parts to build one from scratch, it's gonna end up costing you 200-230ish. And even they your buying a 3rd part conversions board that sony can and has blocked before trust I have a razer panthera evo I bought a conversion kit for ive had to wait for a firmware update twice becuase sony decided to block it. Im on pc, but my friends on PS5, so when i go over to his place to crush him at fighters, I need either an external converter or an officially supported one.

    SF6 was also released on the PS4, not making it compatible there as well is extremely dumb, I understand they are pushing us to "get new gen", but we aren't still in that era, that's the first REALLY BIG issue in my opinion, alongside the lack of a headphone jack.
    Not having an acrylic sheet for artwork... for 300+?
    The layout is somewhat understandable, big company doing everything safe, nothing new.
    Absolutely not worth it in my opinion.

    Seems to me that big companies prefer "safer" layout options. They intentionally decide not to rush things and implement what's proven by time. They can't change and modernize their manufacturing chains as fast and as cheap as *craft* controller makers do. Victrix is a good example of that. Their all-button controller is basically their stick with very minor changes, not a completely new product created with a new usercase in mind. So they will be a little behind the community, for the time being at least. However, I believe, we're in a very good situation now since such a giant recognized this type of controllers. If Kitsune is going to become relatively popular, more designs are probably to come, more companies join the train (pun intended) and it's our, users' win

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I agree. And I get it. They have to go with the tried-and-true to get the most bang for their buck. I was a bit optimistically naive that they might find it worth their while to try something that's outside the established norm. Thank you for watching and commenting, as usual!

      It depends on your comfort level and what platform you want to play on. You can get things cheaper if you play on PC, but things are typically more expensive if you play on PS5. This is a fine controller, just kinda spendy for what it is imo. I have a ton of other controller videos on this channel so you could look through some of those to see some of your available options.
