I've had this headset for two months (2023 edition), and I'm not recommending it, I've also had the squeaking noise from the vide, and it turned into the plastic just disintegrating where the yoke meets the headband, that's where the noises came from in the video as well. Not a user error, as I did not threw it around the room, when it was off it sat on a headphone stand and the desk. Got this and I agree with you mostly , the mic is very good, sidetone is bad although not as bad as yours seemed to be but you can instantly hear that initial buzz from it, vocal clarity is great and so is mic noise cancellation. I had no issues with the software as of yet. The initial sound on it is a little spikey and uncomfortable, I had to tone things down, not as much as you did but close. It feels lighter than I thought it would so thats good. Overall i'm happy with it so far, the main disappointment for me is the slight muddiness that seems to be there most of the time but I havent fully played with the eq so I may get it to a level where its not too bad. When you're listening to music there is some nice airyness and instrument separation but it lacks any clarity and punch otherwise to make it the headphones I'd go to for any music listening session.
i don't have a computer and don't really go for all of this constant updating crap. would these still work fine out of the box with no updates or do they force you to get the update to use them.
@@Jack_80 there’s minor frequency changes you can make to improve the sound but you don’t need to, the standard eq setting sounds really good overall, although it is free and easy to use synapse on a laptop/ pc and can make it sound like a whole new headset quality wise (Just follow a UA-camr doing it on theirs) I use a shitty little laptop and it went from sounding already good to extremely crisp and clear, better than any headset I’ve used, most newer headsets use some kind of eq software anyway but these take it to another level and youl appreciate it if you dive into it. I’m hopeless with computers but found it easy with one of these UA-cam tutorials.
@@officialjc4899 It’s a great headset, but to be honest, I don’t have a lot to go off of. I’ve not used any other headsets. Sound quality and mic quality is amazing. The 2 downsides are that you can’t listen to Bluetooth and the console you’re plugged into at the same time, and the cushions aren’t big enough to keep your ear off the speaker wall. It’s not unbearable, but I’m looking for aftermarket ear cushions, but I can’t find any yet.
I think the thing you mentioned at 8:45 (This Shouldn't Have Happened) has been fixed through firmware updates since this vid released? As for making discord sound good, turning off echo cancellation and noise suppression.
I have the 2020 version, which was great, until Razer decided to f**k with the THX spatial, then refuse to actually fix it. I switched over to Dolby's Headphone X software and it's FAR better in terms of surround/spatial quality. Sure you can't adjust it like Atmos, but it's so crisp that I don't care. We live in new times where "let's break what doesn't need fixing" is actually a business strategy...
Do anyone else notice white noise all the time, when the headset is turnet on? I can't figure out how resolve it. I read something about the audio-knop being the problem, because it only adjusts the windows-sound and not the headset seperatly...
Bought these and have an absolutely horrific static noise when no audio is playing. Sad since there seems to be no fix even though there are forum posts going back 3-5 months. Returning these tomorrow and truly dissapointed that this white noise issue keeps persisting. I had the same issue with the Logitech Pro X wireless too... Just sad for a 240€ (local price) headset.
@@smrmeow i didnt return them, the static noise was annoying first but after a while i didnt hear it anymore because i got used to it. And its a common issue with wireless headphones. For me it was 200€ and it was def worth it.
Decent video anyways, but the warning message to turn volume down after the mic sidetone test showed a fantastic level of care and attention! Thank you.
At first I thought +34 mins, no way...but now I'm happy I stuck around. Really complete to the point review. Could've done with some deeper thoughts on the in-game surround sound experience though, because I find that much more important than the microphone (which I barely use). In comparison, the Logitech G935 I had for a couple of years was super at 3D positional audio, but the SteelSeries Arctis 9x I recently bought (and immediately sent back) was horrible. Still not sure if I should go with this 2023 Blackshark V2 Pro 2023.
i think we’re in the same Boat buddy, I have used that 935’s for years now but they are a bit tired and I’m a bit scared that I won’t be able to find anything as good :D
As someone who is a huge nerd when it comes to video game accessories and spends too much money on these things I can give my two cents on a few of the “top” headsets on the market right now. 1. SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless - fantastic headset. Sound quality is great but if you’re a console gamer I actually wouldn’t suggest it. What makes the headset so great is the Sonar software which isn’t available for console. You can use the included DAC to make 1 custom EQ profile and use the built-in EQ profiles and that’s about it. Still a great headset. 2. Turtle Beach Stealth Pro - Pretty much just released at the end of April and this headset is a gaming headset. Especially for console gamers. No need to use the software on PC/MAC since they have the Turtle Beach app and everything you do on the app transfers to the headset for use on console. Create a custom EQ for sound and your Mic and you even have their “Superhuman Hearing” which I say put to “footsteps” mode and lower it to 30-40% for best results. If you want a headset for single player games and FPS and you are a console gamer this is probably the top headset to get on the market but has a steep price tag. 3. Audeze Maxwell - don’t own this headset. Don’t plan on owning it. Not my style of audio but have watched a couple reviews on it and can see that it primarily excels at music/movie listening with gaming second. Software/app not as user friendly as Turtle Beach. Also not readily available to purchase. You can drop $400+ to wait for your headset to drop in June and who wants to wait that long 4. Razer Blackshark V2 Pro - my pair is arriving this Wednesday so I can’t speak on audio quality but Im curious to see how these “pro EQ” profiles sound and if they’re any good. Pretty much purchased it for that and the incredible mic quality. Notable mentions of headsets I own but didn’t talk about - Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX, Sony InZone H9, Astro A30s. All great in their own way but definitely none of them are the top tier in gaming audio if you want FPS but all pretty good for single player games. If you read all this then you made it to the end ✌️
Just found you recently and had to see your review on this one. Great job on breaking it down like all other videos and glad I did pick this one for my headset at home. I been loving it and the mic quality is the main thing I wanted. Now just gotta see how this mic compares to the new headsets coming out lol. Some can tell microphone is not better but seeing in comment for the astros 5th gen and X. So can't wait to see how those are since I use astros a50s at work. Which I was not as impress with so hoping the 5th gen and X do. Especially at those price ranges
Could you re-review that latest version of Synapse? How does the 2023 version fit over large heads? Comparable to the Audio Technica ATH-M50x(STS-USB) in that respect? I find the Audio Technicas to be the best fitting over larger heads.
The biggest problem with mine is that I get a constant hum/ringing when it's on. It's barely noticeable when I don't listen for it, but when I have the headset on with no audio it's VERY noticeable. It's really only in the left headset too. Anyone else experience this problem?
@ the only resolution I could find is to take the usb out and put back in every few days. Even then it keeps ringing. I’ll definitely be going back to wired headsets very soon
@ yeah i already put the razers back into the box and not gonna touch them anymore, gonna buy hyperx cloud 2 when i bounce back from the 175€ loss from the razer headphones
Honestly I haven't done too much on the mic EQ lately, but it can also come down to how your voice sounds (deeper vs higher pitch). I typically reduce low bass, add 2-3 dB to the 100-125hz region, reduce 1khz and 2khz by 2dB, and go from there. That often takes away the nasal sound most gaming headset mics have.
Awesome vid as always man, never aplogize for giving us knowledge on headsets man, I always which your entire vids, very informative. One question, well a request, can you make a dac vid for the ps5 or xbox consoles, like the G6 or the shiit one, if you have them. What ever you have, lol. I am not a big fan of wireless headsets. Also dont know if you have seen the new Astro's A50's pic leak, looks the same but the the base station has 2 hdmi ports, no more optical. Anyways great vid as always man.
Great to see a review that includes actual measurements. Can you elaborate a bit on what your measurement methods are (measurement system, audio content, etc)? There are a few different ways to measure headphones and I'd be interested to know your approach. thanks!
I use an IE711 coupler with XLR interface mounted to a full dual plate, dual pinna system. The pinna is modeled after the older Gras ear mold. The whole measuring rig is about a grand. Hope that helps!
I was very impressed by your comprehensive overview of sound and surround sound. I have been using the Audio-Technica ATH-ADG1X for 7 years and in CS2 I know absolutely exactly where the sound is coming from. Not only the direction, but also the distance. I need a second headset that will have these features and at the same time be comfortable for my large ears. Could you give me some tips please?
digital volume knob is a hard no. in my experience, the headset will have CONSTANT static if it has a digital volume knob that controls windows volume and not just more or less to the speaker itself in the headphones.
@@meh_tr0 i wouldve done the same but i need wireless its a necessity. And with that being so i cant do that type of setup sadly. I cant have a cat chewing a 5m long python next to me and also the tangling, switching from simracing to desk setup is too challenging. Ill take the comfortability over sound quality any day especially when theres already really good wireless headsets. If i wouldnt do sim racing on another rig, id buy wired too. Smart choice by you.
So this is a stupid question because you probably answered it in your video (great btw). If I setup EQ settings on Synapse, will they be able to be used on the PS5?
@@gavancorrigan8813 Honestly working well for me so far, mic quality doesn't seem as good as everyone says it is but maybe i need to play around with the settings more
Hi joe another great review your just the best reviewer i play on ps5 i ordered the turtle beach stealth pro 3 do these new razer blackshark headphones do they sound better whats your opinion thank you joe stay safe and happy gaming
Stealth Pro has better sound than the Blackshark V2 Pro. Blacksharks have a bass boost but it makes the mid range kind of dark and doesn't seem to have as much detail. The Pros still have some nice bass but are much more clear sounding.
I picked up a pair of these the other week and was wondering if you had any advice for the popping noises that you sometimes get or even like a quiet hissing sometimes that comes and goes randomly?
I had the first blackshark pros and I loved them so much that I pushed through the nonsense of the Synapse app not working properly until I started having BSODs that were directly caused by Synapse. So, that was the day I stopped using synapse and stopped using any product that requires software to run properly. I realized this halfway through watching this video. I had forgotten about the struggles of Synapse so thank you for being thorough and honest with your reviews and jogging my memory. Razer will die by the hands of Synapse and Central.
Subscribed for your honesty. I have one question and hoping for your answer. Im currently using hyperx cloud core wireless, would u recomend upgrading to this? Considering current one causes my ears to become hot and spicy after long sessions. Asking not about only comfort, I mean 200 dollar headphones has to sound better than 100 dollar ones, sometimes even 60 bux you can grab them.
@@GadgetryTech sorry to bother you further but in terms of sound, is the blackshark flat out better for gaming? And for music? (I am indeed a pc gamer)

I've been wanting to test it but I have so many products on my plate at the moment that I haven't been able to justify buying it yet. One day I'd love to though!
Hey man! Great reviews and tests, thanks a lot! I'm looking for a good headset and checked hundreds reviews already. SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless looks good but a bit expensive for me and I don't want to have any additional stuff on my table. I don't care about bluetooth or ANC, I will use it only with my PC via dongle. Mic is pretty important as I play mostly shooters with teammates and I don't plan to buy an external mic. Also I need to be sure that I can go to another room without any issues with sound (~15m radius). Budget is about 200 Eur. Now I'm choosing between SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 and Razer Blackshark V2 Pro 2023. How do you think? Or maybe there is some other better options? Thanks in advance👍
Wireless headsets with good sidetone are impossible to find. Using a Logitech g pro x, it's really uncomfortable and the sidetone is just passably loud. The Arctis Nova 7's might be better
@@feraligatorade99Turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 and gen 2 max have amazing sidetone. They have quite tight fit but I have bent the metal part on both right and left side to make it super comfy.
I watched Techne's review and he said sidetone was a lot more prominent. Sidetone is a must-have for me, with the older Blackshark V2 Pro you could barely tell when it was activated. Techne said it was almost too loud when it's cranked all the way with the 2023 version.
2023 and Razer simply cannot release a version that works wirelessly on the Xbox? It just boggles my mind that they cannot or choose not to. I know they make the Kaira Pro for Xbox but personally like the Blackshark better. Maybe V3
Just got one of these from Amazon (came in yesterday). Downloaded Synapse and got the latest firmware for the headset (from July). Regarding the usual complaints I see from some commenters every time someone talks about these: No Synapse software crashes at all over several hours of messing around with it, no strange hissing sounds when using PS5, no issues connecting to Bluetooth on an Apple TV unit, on my PC, or my PS5, no issues with latency, no issues with connecting to the dongle from 5 feet away on either my PC (I also sit on the couch when gaming on my PC and use wireless keyboard and MMO mouse from there) or the PS5. They sound GREAT and are as comfortable as everyone says. I might have gotten the Logitech G Pro x2 Lightspeed headset instead, but I didn’t want to spend 50.00 more after already spending 200.00. I got an extended warranty simply because some people always complain about these headphones, but it seems there may have been quality control issues in those cases. I love mine so far, and I’m glad I made the purchase.

Out of all the video's I've watched your Custom Equilizer and Mic settings are the best 10/10!
Just got this headset and I love it. I'm using your EQ settings and it's amazing.
They fix the mic problem ? And other problem?
@@epernado someone said in comments that "in discord when you turn off echo cancellation and noise cancellation from settings, mic works well"
ooh, I've been waiting for this review...
Just bought these today and figured I’d share that I had 0 issues with synapse let’s hope it stays that way lol
5 days later how is it?
@@Batu-27i use synapse since 2 years. No problems whatsoever. Its probably hardware problems. Just restart the pc, do a clean install or repair the application and everything is solved. i think i only needed to repair the application once like a year ago but all the profiles save so its not bad at all
how is it used for music? is it good? i mean can you enjoy it?
Great feedback! Yeah I think dropping the 250hz a bit and then 125hz a bit less helps clean up the bass
i don't have a computer and don't really go for all of this constant updating crap. would these still work fine out of the box with no updates or do they force you to get the update to use them.
@@Jack_80 there’s minor frequency changes you can make to improve the sound but you don’t need to, the standard eq setting sounds really good overall,
although it is free and easy to use synapse on a laptop/ pc and can make it sound like a whole new headset quality wise
(Just follow a UA-camr doing it on theirs) I use a shitty little laptop and it went from sounding already good to extremely crisp and clear, better than any headset I’ve used, most newer headsets use some kind of eq software anyway but these take it to another level and youl appreciate it if you dive into it. I’m hopeless with computers but found it easy with one of these UA-cam tutorials.
@@dunno6442just wondering can you change the eq on phone with the razer audio app?
@timothyonipad nope. If you want that go for the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro
Just bought the headset today, and i want to say, it's way better than the previous v2 headset
What a great review! You covered everything and I was specifically looking for a PS5 headset, thanks!
did u get it? was it good? Im looking for one for ps5 also
@@officialjc4899 It’s a great headset, but to be honest, I don’t have a lot to go off of.
As for making discord sound good, turning off echo cancellation and noise suppression.
is echo cancellataion really needed to be off for good sound on discord with this headphone?
I have the 2020 version, which was great, until Razer decided to f**k with the THX spatial, then refuse to actually fix it. I switched over to Dolby's Headphone X software and it's FAR better in terms of surround/spatial quality. Sure you can't adjust it like Atmos, but it's so crisp that I don't care. We live in new times where "let's break what doesn't need fixing" is actually a business strategy...
Love your videos, man! Keep it up!
Your video really helped me which headset to pick. Thanks a lot for this well informed review my friend.
This review is awesome. Appreciate it man
how does the blackshark compare to the Audeze Maxwell in terms of FPS gaming performance?
Do anyone else notice white noise all the time, when the headset is turnet on? I can't figure out how resolve it. I read something about the audio-knop being the problem, because it only adjusts the windows-sound and not the headset seperatly...
I also ran into this issue and couldn't fix it by buying it again
Mute and then unmute the mic and see if that solves it.
@@garethg8226 it doesn’t, unfortunately
Do you have a probem when you turn them on and theres like sound of them working + the quite zzzzzzz on left side?
The best review I have found. Good information and honest. Thank You.
Merci, excellente vidéo d’analyse !
Great review,
just bought the headset
Bought these and have an absolutely horrific static noise when no audio is playing. Sad since there seems to be no fix even though there are forum posts going back 3-5 months. Returning these tomorrow and truly dissapointed that this white noise issue keeps persisting. I had the same issue with the Logitech Pro X wireless too... Just sad for a 240€ (local price) headset.
same, just got them today, no youtube video ive watched before buying it said anything about it... hope i can still return it and get the money back
same, returned this shitty 250$ headsets
@@smrmeow i didnt return them, the static noise was annoying first but after a while i didnt hear it anymore because i got used to it. And its a common issue with wireless headphones. For me it was 200€ and it was def worth it.
@@vx33 cant get used to it, there is no any noise in 2020 version, it’s completely silent:((
@@smrmeow ok. Maybe the future headsets wont have this issue.
Also which mic do you use for your youtube videos?
Im considering just using a shotgun mic and some ear buds for my conference calls.
Which one is the best? This one or g pro x 2?
Thanks for all the infos! Do you still have issues with synapse?
Decent video anyways, but the warning message to turn volume down after the mic sidetone test showed a fantastic level of care and attention! Thank you.
thanks with EQ, tried to listen different tracks same fragments and yours profiles seems more balanced
very detailed, you got a new sub 😁
Ty for the Bluetooth info that was awesome
You can drop $400+ to wait for your headset to drop in June and who wants to wait that long
How is the blackshark v2 pros?
Can u do an update on Razer blackshark v2 Pro
Did you like the V2 pros? And have you got the 2023 version?
Update on the new blackshark?
@scubaprodiver
What’s the call of duty EQ like ?
Man your EQs are really good
Thank you for the direct comparisons. I was debating on getting the new or old one.
Can I buy its microphone and put it on my logitech g pro x 2 headset?
Just found you recently and had to see your review on this one. Great job on breaking it down like all other videos and glad I did pick this one for my headset at home. I been loving it and the mic quality is the main thing I wanted. Now just gotta see how this mic compares to the new headsets coming out lol. Some can tell microphone is not better but seeing in comment for the astros 5th gen and X. So can't wait to see how those are since I use astros a50s at work. Which I was not as impress with so hoping the 5th gen and X do. Especially at those price ranges
What do you think about these compared to Astro a50s
Could you re-review that latest version of Synapse? How does the 2023 version fit over large heads? Comparable to the Audio Technica ATH-M50x(STS-USB) in that respect? I find the Audio Technicas to be the best fitting over larger heads.
Really nice video, i liked it very much. I own a Corsair HS80 and missed it within the competitors. Is it worth upgrading to the Blackshark?
The biggest problem with mine is that I get a constant hum/ringing when it's on. It's barely noticeable when I don't listen for it, but when I have the headset on with no audio it's VERY noticeable. It's really only in the left headset too. Anyone else experience this problem?
I have same and on the left more, and i started getting crackling sounds just a few days ago all the time
@ the only resolution I could find is to take the usb out and put back in every few days. Even then it keeps ringing. I’ll definitely be going back to wired headsets very soon
@ yeah i already put the razers back into the box and not gonna touch them anymore, gonna buy hyperx cloud 2 when i bounce back from the 175€ loss from the razer headphones
@ I’m looking to move away from a mic headset and get a standalone mic
@@IJKez thats a great idea fr
Awesome review, you really deserve more subs! Do you have any recommendations on Discord settings when using your Mic eq?
Honestly I haven't done too much on the mic EQ lately, but it can also come down to how your voice sounds (deeper vs higher pitch). I typically reduce low bass, add 2-3 dB to the 100-125hz region, reduce 1khz and 2khz by 2dB, and go from there. That often takes away the nasal sound most gaming headset mics have.
Great Review🙂
Awesome vid as always man, never aplogize for giving us knowledge on headsets man, I always which your entire vids, very informative.
One question, well a request, can you make a dac vid for the ps5 or xbox consoles, like the G6 or the shiit one, if you have them. What ever you have, lol. I am not a big fan of wireless headsets.
Also dont know if you have seen the new Astro's A50's pic leak, looks the same but the the base station has 2 hdmi ports, no more optical.
Anyways great vid as always man.
good shit man thanks
Great to see a review that includes actual measurements. Can you elaborate a bit on what your measurement methods are (measurement system, audio content, etc)? There are a few different ways to measure headphones and I'd be interested to know your approach. thanks!
I use an IE711 coupler with XLR interface mounted to a full dual plate, dual pinna system. The pinna is modeled after the older Gras ear mold. The whole measuring rig is about a grand. Hope that helps!
@@GadgetryTech Many thanks!!
I like the way you explain things
I was very impressed by your comprehensive overview of sound and surround sound. I have been using the Audio-Technica ATH-ADG1X for 7 years and in CS2 I know absolutely exactly where the sound is coming from. Not only the direction, but also the distance. I need a second headset that will have these features and at the same time be comfortable for my large ears. Could you give me some tips please?
digital volume knob is a hard no. in my experience, the headset will have CONSTANT static if it has a digital volume knob that controls windows volume and not just more or less to the speaker itself in the headphones.
thats why i like these over corsair etc
@ I ended up buying a pair of beyerdynamic dt770, an audio interface and an XLR mic. Turned out way better than any gaming headset
Is the hinge part still broken or did they fix it?
Is it only compatible with PS5? Or both PS5 and PS4 since I play on ps4.
between this and Beyerdynamic MMX 300 PRO, which do you think is better?
Can I use thx on ps5?
Love your very informative videoes. Seems very unbiased and i love it. One of few trustworthy tech youtubers who dont shill out for Corporations.
So this is a stupid question because you probably answered it in your video (great btw). If I setup EQ settings on Synapse, will they be able to be used on the PS5?
I tried saving it so many times, it doesn’t work
good honest video just purchased this headset so keen to see how it goes.
Hey. How is it working out for you? I’m thinking of buying so interested in a regular Joe review
@@gavancorrigan8813 Honestly working well for me so far, mic quality doesn't seem as good as everyone says it is but maybe i need to play around with the settings more
@@martyb154 thanks Marty. I’ll keep procrastinating for another while! 🤔
What microphone are you using for this video?
I picked up a pair of these the other week and was wondering if you had any advice for the popping noises that you sometimes get or even like a quiet hissing sometimes that comes and goes randomly?
Gem channel for headphones
I had the first blackshark pros and I loved them so much that I pushed through the nonsense of the Synapse app not working properly until I started having BSODs that were directly caused by Synapse. So, that was the day I stopped using synapse and stopped using any product that requires software to run properly. I realized this halfway through watching this video. I had forgotten about the struggles of Synapse so thank you for being thorough and honest with your reviews and jogging my memory. Razer will die by the hands of Synapse and Central.
How does it compare to pc38x
Fantastic review, very thorough. First time discovering your channel, def subscribing.
Thanks so much!
One of the best reviews I've seen.
Do these settings actually save and you can use these for ps5??
You can use Dolby Atmos on this ?
You can use Atmos on any headset.
So what do you think is better to use the new blackshark v2 or the Rocca syn pro wireless headset.
Would you recommend this over the razer Barracuda (not x) ?
Absolutely. I would pick the Barracuda if your primary use is via mobile phone or a tablet. For console and PC, I'd go Blackshark.
@@GadgetryTech sorry to bother you further but in terms of sound, is the blackshark flat out better for gaming? And for music? (I am indeed a pc gamer)

May I suggest a headset to test? I would love to hear your take about the RØDE NTH-100M.
I've been wanting to test it but I have so many products on my plate at the moment that I haven't been able to justify buying it yet. One day I'd love to though!
Are there any alternative with similar "square" cushions ? It's the only headset that doesn't give me earache
Is broadcast EQ the best for call of duty
Have they solved the problem of hinges that break after just a few days of use?
What’s better the Astro a40 with mixer or the 2023 v2 pros
Fantastic review. Would you be able to share some footsteps EQ for MW2022 like you've done in other video? It's been insanely helpful.

@@GadgetryTech Thank you very much! Works a dream!!!
Are the headset compatible with Xbox series s/x?
Is there a difference in mic quality with the none Bluetooth model that's wireless via USB?
Did the mic cutoff issues when speaking softly get better?
does this newer version have sidetone that works well? original one have sidetone feature but it practically was none existing.
Indeed. Need this answer
Just watched. Unfortunately it seems that at higher sidetone levels it is unusable. Shame. Would have been great headset otherwide.
Just ordered mine, are they still good?
