I’m age 57. In 9th grade, my friend Ross played this song at his house on his turntable as the first on the Zoso album. It blew me away and was my introduction to hard rock.
Thanks for your insightful analysis of this song. Nobody can imitate Robert Plant's voice or Led Zeppelin's music! Nobody! NOBODY!!! (Sorry, I was screaming.) Another great reaction!!
Oh yeah ladies, now you're really cookin' with the great Zeppelin!! Mia - you're actually spot-on when you said Robert Plant's voice with Zep's music is "romantic". I can honestly tell you that during my younger days, the ladies I dated ALL thought Zeppelin was romantic! Juliet - You're so right about Jimmy Page evoking so many personalities with his guitar and his style! Great reaction, ladies! You two rock! Love to ya both! Have a great weekend!
THANK YOU! I was so thrilled to receive the notification of a new Zeppelin review! Kind of ironic as I heard this song while driving to do errands today. Trust me, I turned this one up while driving! One of my favorites as I love everything about this song. You both were spot on with your comments. Mia, you blew me away with your take on the lyrics of the song. As I have said before, you are very mature for your age. Juliet, you are so right about cruising around and singing this song and playing it loud too! Loved all of your comments. I am happy that you both liked the song. What is not to like? LOL! By the way, Juliet, I had on the same Zeppelin shirt as you today! We are Zeppelin twins! It has been some time since the two of you have reacted to Zeppelin so again, thank you for doing so. I am glad your dad took notice of my request for more, during your Halloween live chat. THANKS DAD! Keep going with the Zeppelin reviews. There are still many great songs to listen to, believe me and all with a different sound. You will not be disappointed, I promise. Have a great weekend my lovely girls. Love & Blessings! 💖
Cool you're checking this out. Heard this as a snot brat trying to learn drums.......the John Bonham path every drummer has to go through. And for young people, these guys interacted as a band in real time, live also.
"Yes, because I am John Bonham". It was really nice to see your reaction, this song ist unique! I remember my first time listening to it, my brother had this CD borrowed from a friend in high school and I heard this very funny singing style, riff and drums.... Wow! My life was going top change, really because I started to listen to this old bands. Cheers!
You kids do a great job it warms my heart seeing younger people experience the band i grew up with and actually seen live in Seattle at the Kingdom i think it was 1977, more please
Hey girls It just makes me happy seeing you enjoy zeppelin as much as I did when I was young. Rock on their is so much more zeppelin to experience I hope you take the time and share your experiences with us Thanks
John Paul Jones wrote this riff after listening to Electric Mud by Muddy Waters. Apparently it was named after an actual black dog wandering around the studio when they recorded it. If you dig Robert Plant, check Steve Marriott in the band Humble Pie
I love this song! Everything from Led Zeppelin is just fabulous. Nice singing too, ladies! Great reaction! You two reacting to Zep is the best every time! Keep doing it!!!
Thank you, girls, for another great LZ reaction! Please add their songs "Thank You", "Going To California", "Gallows Pole" and "When The Levee Breaks" to your long list of songs to get to one day!! Great t-shirts!!
You ladies need to watch the video on UA-cam titled “Led Zeppelin Dazed And Confused Live In London 1969” to really get your minds blown. Jimmy Page uses a violin bow to play the guitar.
I bet Suzy will be happy with this! A good, well reasoned reaction to a great track by one of the greatest rock bands there has been. It may just be the fact that I have got back home at a bit past 2am, but ... a few years back I listened to a Led Zep CD of remastered tracks and, I hate to say, I prefered the originalsas the remastered ones generally sounded too clinical to me, but this track sounded fine! As a passing point of, maybe, related trivia, Winston Churchill used to refer to his periodic bouts of depression as his 'Black Dog'
Jimmy Page had heard Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well' & loved the way the vocals were separate from the music & so that is what influenced the structure of this song. The title came from the fact that a black labrador was often seen wandering the grounds of Headley Grange where they were writing & recording the album. They would often feed it & when they didn't have a title for this song they thought they would just call it 'Black Dog'.
Hi Juliet hi Mia brilliant track great memories for me there’s so much I could say about zeppelin but I think you’ve heard it all before Thanks again ladies it’s 2am London GMT and I’m rocking Give when the levy breaks a go
Excellent choice girls! Gotta be one of the best riffs ever written too, every guitarist aspires to learn this one. Fun fact...the song was named after a dog that used to wander around the studio when they were recording this album! :) Personally I would have named the song Cute Pooch but that's not very rock n roll is it, haha! ;)
I was fortunate enough to see them live at Live Aid, 1985 JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, PA. I remember it clearly like it was yesterday. When they played "Stairway to Heaven," I felt like the world was shaking or something magnanimous was happening, since they were one of my favorite bands.
Wow girls! Some good insights into LZ. The more times you listen to it the more your insights might change. It just amazes me how many incredibly good songs LZ has in their arsenal. At any concert every person was going to be disappointed they didn't play something they love. It was "Since I've Been Loving You". But they played this both times and it was spectacular. Since you mention Bonham on drums watch a video called Why Was John Bonham so good on UA-cam. Not to react but to see how insanely good he was.
Tell ya the truth, I only check in when you cover the Zep...The GOATS! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Not a song for young ladies!🤨 Their secret is how well they all play together. Tightness!
You girls are too cute! Have fun! Enjoy the music 🎶 your parents have done a fine job with you both. You are both smart polite and are good together!✌🌻
Your comment about Jimmy’s guitar singing reminds me of their early call and response work. I would suggest “You Shook Me”. It will confirm all your comments.
Thank you ladies you made my night I feel GD now next you need too react too dazed and confused live from Madison square garden 1973 it's 28minutes long you will be blown away trust me 😁 gd night
to be honest, I never really listened to the lyrics, because the music was so overwhelming(plus my English was equally underwhelming, lol) Good singing at the end girls :)
Please do "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin next. Robert plant plays some amazing harmonica and the drums are so legendary, they've been sampled by many other artists. The song is about the despair a man feels over his hometown being flooded by the levee breaking. My favorite Led Zeppelin song and it's so hard to pic a favorite!
I was 14 when I heard the song black dog by led zeppelin that was 45 years ago I was hooked they became my favorite band ever ❤️ 💜 and the best band ever to walk planet earth
Growing up this song was played pretty regular on the local FM stations, and everyone I knew knew it. It's really interesting to see people who have never heard it. It is a really interesting song, stylistically. The rhythm section is doing things that should not work but do.
Takes me back to when I was your age. That was a pretty good looking dude back then and mildly popular. Hey… Big Led Zeppelin fans huh? Then you definitely need to check out tangerine and the ocean.
If you loved the main riffs they're actually pretty good fun to have a stab at even for a relative beginner 😉 Just don't expect to get exactly the same tone / feeling / timing as Jimmy on day one😂😂😂
I don't know if you've seen the video or not but there's one live where Jimmy plays his guitar with a violin bow or some kind of bow, bigger than a violin I think...no words for that! :)
Also, what I love about this song is that it shows how Led Zeppelin used tempo changes, stops and starts and different simultaneous rhythms during their songs. The drums and Jimmy Page's solos going at different rates, sometimes rolling and sometimes stopping or slowing down. Today's music is all at the same speed it starts at. There are no real changes or complexities in the music. It lacks both soul and variation. And then of course you have the sound quality difference. The stereo touches added by the production. Jimmy Page was a master at getting the right sound.
One more thing, Led Zeppelin 4 is legendary. It was ranked 58th best album out of the top 500 albums of all time by Rolling Stone. With only 8 songs it is anchored on both sides by Stairway to Heaven and When The Levee Breaks. Both songs are 7 minutes long. There is a famous scene in Fast Times At Ridgemont High where it's playing while they are in a car and the characters talk about it.
How did John Bonham get so good at playing the drums? Growing up, his was a brick layer for his father, also had a strong interest in drumming such that he banged on all sorts of pots, pans, and the like. Then his father got him his first kit. John basically studied the jazz drummer greats of the time by listening to their records. Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, and many others. He applied the jazz techniques to rock drumming. It took years and his brick laying and other physical activity gave him arms more strength than the average player. That's why he could hit the drums so hard!
My favorite songs by led zeppelin is going to California thank you over the hills and far away that's the Way and the rain song and ramble on and much much much more the greatest band ever led zeppelin
I just want to ask this. When Mia was singing the lyrics near the end of the reaction, did anyone else's mind automatically play the next guitar riff, or was is just me?
Robert Plant once explained the title for this song, that it was a working title named after an old black retriever dog that was around the recording studio that used to stray off to copulate with a local bitch and then was too tired to make his way home, so the dog needed to be carried home. "It wasn't (about) a girl in Detroit, it was a black dog."
Great reaction. Love the interplay between the guitar and vocals. Note the line, 'Terminal lies made me a happy man'. Unfortunately guys are not to be trusted, as some women. Just a word to the wise. Loved how the instruments (especially the drums) and vocals complemented each other on this song. A true classic.
They didn't have a name for this song,,, when they were done making it they walked outside to take a break. And there was a BLACK DOG playing so that is what that named it!!!
John Bonham you know he was a house framer so he built houses so he swung a hammer for a long long time with his dad so I guess that's how we got the strength
YEE GIRLS, I don't know for sure. But I met her... And she told me a long story about her and Robert.. she lives in Modesto California now. He just walked off and left her at a bus stop. With no money and no place to go
Plant is singing allegedly about a black dog that use to b @ one of the studios that they use to record @..... if memory serves, it was headley grange.. .
Girls try some...Bad Company..."feel like making love" or "Bad Company" song...studio versions...they were a warm up band at Led Zeppelin concerts...so good!

Mom and Dad (and now Zeppelin) are teaching you well. 🤣
'When the Levee Breaks' is another awesome Zep tune you will like.
Then listen to Heart's cover of Black Dog live in Canada...and Beth Hart is putting out a whole album of Led Zep covers next February...WOW!!

I love that you actually listen to the words. Most people don't know that this song is about the life cycle of a toxic relationship.
Yes more Zeppelin girls!!
Great Reaction🔥 You gotta react to Black Dog live at msg 1973❤❤ You won't regret it🔥
Hey girls
It just makes me happy seeing you enjoy zeppelin as much as I did when I was young. Rock on their is so much more zeppelin to experience I hope you take the time and share your experiences with us
Thanks
Wooooooo another fantastic vid ladies...stay safe...YEEEE!!🌹🌹
Great reaction girls!
The dogs barking in the background was a nice touch to a song called “Black Dog”
lol.. excellent observation.
John Paul Jones wrote this riff after listening to Electric Mud by Muddy Waters. Apparently it was named after an actual black dog wandering around the studio when they recorded it. If you dig Robert Plant, check Steve Marriott in the band Humble Pie
Two big thumbs up for this reaction and Led Zeppelin!!!
I love this song! Everything from Led Zeppelin is just fabulous. Nice singing too, ladies! Great reaction! You two reacting to Zep is the best every time! Keep doing it!!!

I think they did Thank You but it got taken down?
Led Zep owe so much to black music and especially blues. There's some great "call and response" technique in this song.
Excellent comment!
One of their best call and response songs is "You Shook Me", from Led Zeppelin I.
Biggest band in the world!!! Nobody sang like Plant, played guitar like Paige, drums like Bonham or bass like John Paul Jones.
Except the Who ofc
Black Sabbath - Hold my beer
Whenever you find ME listening to Led Zeppelin... you know that the neighbors are listening to them too. 🎸🔊
✌️❤️🌹
LED ZEPPELIN GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER!!!!!!

Which was Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac. Before the band members of the Fleetwood Mac that came later. Peter Green was fantastic.
@@joannparker1977 Agree. As a blues band they recorded some amazing tunes. Love the later incarnation of the band too
@@michaelatkinson8291 Peter Green turned his neck pickup around. Some say it was key to his tone.
Hi Juliet hi Mia brilliant track great memories for me there’s so much I could say about zeppelin but I think you’ve heard it all before
Thanks again ladies it’s 2am London GMT and I’m rocking
Give when the levy breaks a go
I'm 63 and have been playing these songs for most of that time. I love your reactions, especially the parts that I missed and you noticed.
Again "Since I've Been Loving You" by Led Zeppelin
This song is basically " HI, we're a new band called Led Zeppelin " and did the basic 'mic drop' before exiting the stage.
Yup. It's like that.
Definitely have to watch the live video from 1973 ( taken from " The Song Remains The Same" movie)!! Unforgettable.
Wish it was on the album, even though Celebration Day kicks ass : )
Excellent choice girls! Gotta be one of the best riffs ever written too, every guitarist aspires to learn this one. Fun fact...the song was named after a dog that used to wander around the studio when they were recording this album! :) Personally I would have named the song Cute Pooch but that's not very rock n roll is it, haha! ;)
Oh ya Early Zeppelin 😎 Nice 👍 Here's a Early Zeppelin Request and that's the Lemon Song 🎵

Listen to Ten Years Gone, the guitar sound(s) will thrill you.
Mia: How did you get so good at playing the drums?
John: Practice.
Great song! Awesome review
70's girls through & through.
YEE GIRLS. Well I Guess!!! Led Zeppelin had a couple of good songs??? Maybe!!!
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
My favorite Led Zeppelin song since I was a kid.
My mom had the record and I hooked up the record player in my room and played this song 100 times in a row
Wow girls! Some good insights into LZ. The more times you listen to it the more your insights might change. It just amazes me how many incredibly good songs LZ has in their arsenal. Memphis Minnie wrote this song. A great guitar player in her own right.

The song got its name from a stray dog that wandered around their recording studio at the time when this song was being created....

It's because I'm John Bonham!!!! Also the gold digger part... you two just get it so well!!!!

Tool now this Wow😃😃
Led Zeppelin "trampled under foot" bit of a different vibe for them X 😊
