How to Paint - White Scars Primaris Lieutenant by Mezgike

  • In this video tutorial, you will learn how I painted my White Scars Primaris Lieutenant with glowing power sword. This is the model that features in White Dwarf, May 2019. We will cover white armour, freehand, battle damage, power glow, marble effects and more.
Note: I am aware that White Scars are mostly based off ancient Mongolia. However, in their world-dominating conquest, perhaps it is reasonable to imagine that the Khans may have picked up some foreign influences from other great warriors, such as the Japanese Samurai, and included them in their White Scars armies, 40,000 years later.
Note 2: I will be uploading a video on how to convert this model very soon, so stay poised :-)
If you would like to donate towards my videos, you can do so (with my huge thanks), here:

The thing I'm really appreciating about your videos is how long they are. You don't do a few brush strokes, then skip to the end of the step. You're actually showing the full process, the thinness of the paint, how it looks on the model wet, how you move it around, how many layers you do and what they look like. Seeing that in-between bit when it doesn't look so good is really encouraging to see, that it's normal that an incomplete step looks meh, but gets better when you keep at it and build up more layers.

Watching you paint takes me back to when I used to paint. Your technique is like mine, take your time, layering, blending, and glazing (not many seem to do this nowadays). I started painting back in the mid '80's. I used to own the original Citadel Miniatures paint sets too (Colour, Creature, Monster, & Expert), always had a kitchen towel and a wall tile as part of my set up. Good times! :D
