I graduated college in 1998 and got a 5 year accounting degree (Certified Public Accountant) in 4 years. I have NEVER understood starting college and not knowing what you wanna do and getting general studies and general business degrees. No ma’am!
Yup. Unfortunately most of these degrees they’re getting are very general, not STEM, and did not give them employable skills to help them compete in the market. The economy is not going to work well for those women. Now they have serious debt and no marketable skills.
I can attest to this as someone who was once in that position. The main reason for that is because there was a big push that you would go straight to college after turning eighteen and graduating high school. Me personally, I regret going to college straight after high school (I started in the summer term that I graduated high school) because it would have saved a lot of time and gave me the maturity I needed when it came to career selection because I literally changed my major several times from not knowing what I was doing. And each time I changed my major, I was only given about two weeks to make a final decision. I honestly do not encourage anyone to go to college immediately after high school.
Any tips for someone trying to break into accounting? I got a BA degree in Communications back in early 2000s. I'm looking to go back to school and get an accounting certificate. The certificate will give me 27 credits hrs needed to get 150 total credits. I will then take CPA exam.
I graduated with a computer science degree with a math minor and never been unemployed it doesn't mean you can experience downsizing or being fired but regardless of your degree it is all about mindset of survival@@AO-kr9kd

Im going to college for Cyber Security because I want to have a degree. My second semester ends in two days on December 16th. I was told long after I started that once I get atleast one certificate then I can get a good entry level job that pays well before I finish my degree. Thats my aim for the new year. What ppl dont get is nuance Its not just go get a degree or a trade. Its get a meaningful higly sought skill via a degree or trade. I hate when ppl intentionally say one is better than the other. It's all about having a meaningful skill whether its from a trade program or degree.
Usually but the vast majority of Black women went to college but have gotten completely useless degrees making Black women have the most debt yet not having the income to pay that off. It does need to be stated for Black women specifically there’s multiple reasons why trades needs to be a priority. Because of automation, cost/debt, licensing, etc. One of these works significantly better for Black women who can always go to college later when their trade pay allows them to afford it
@@Nolepiere Can you point me to resources that discuss the percentage of Black women who have received "useless" degrees? I did a Google search and mainly got information on the top degrees Black people in general are getting, which are in important but lower earning majors like social work.

Trade schools are very necessary. Plumbers, contractors, electricians, hvac, and more are all very important and this country is running out of them bc people don't want to use their hands as much. Trades are honorable careers, guaranteed work, and they keep our world working.
I think what they mean is bc men aren’t going to college much anymore, the standard is shifting to accommodate them. Black women are the highest degree earners, so it seems natural they’re shifting the standard to accommodate men

Those are some of the lowest paying trades and currently in process to get replaced by automation. Same with cosmetology, technically a trade we are in but the lowest pay and low financial benefit.
@@NoirNoir9it's low paying if you're not traveling. All those fields I named some chicks are traveling and making more than a nurse. Also a nurse aide has to have physical contact with her patient. Nurse aides can't be replaced by AI.

removing degree requirements means increasing competition for jobs so people are being judged on work experience and results rather than how much debt they went into for a degree lol.
Unpopular opinion: Having a degree doesn't make you "deserving" of a job vs. someone without one. I'm glad they got rid of the bachelor/master degree requirement. It should've never been a requirement in the first place! I *HIGHLY DISAGREE* with the first lady (0:04). Having an "advanced" education ( *which comes with accumulated debt* ), doesn't make anyone "superior" to someone who *doesn't* have a degree. No one should have to have "prior experience", nor any kind of degree/certificate for something that's *ENTRY-LEVEL!* These people are supposed to train newbies and they're too lazy to do so! That in and of itself is weird because employers are so quick to slam the door on people that are ALREADY HERE and yet...they have no problem hiring immigrants/migrants that come here! I've heard people say that immigrants/migrants are "willing" to do the jobs that "no one else wants to" and that's a bold faced lie! We have homeless people that are ALREADY HERE who are willing to work for a FAIR, LIVABLE WAGE! Quite frankly, there should be MORE jobs that require LESS education and pays people a FAIR, LIVABLE WAGE so they can provide a BASIC, BARE MINIMUM living for themselves! College isn't for everyone! Everyone literally CAN'T go to college! It's way too hard, its time consuming, its expensive as f---, its needlessly stressful, the list goes on! Hell, the same way they're allegedly getting rid of the bachelor/master degree requirement, they also need to get rid of the highschool diploma/GED requirement too! There's NOTHING in highschool that they teach you about ANY job in question! Its called “on-the-job training” for a reason! They're LITERALLY supposed to train you *on-the-job!* Highschool doesn't teach you how to be a cashier, stock inventory, bus tables, take food orders, transfer calls, etc.! In the U.S., 16 years old is the MINIMUM a person can start working! Denying someone a chance to work because they don't have "prior experience" doesn't make sense! Plus, it contributes to poverty and homelessness! What "prior experience" is a 16 year old supposed to have?!?! ESPECIALLY when they weren't legally allowed to work a year prior?????? A lot of places require a highschool diploma and yet, these same places are hiring SOME people WITHOUT one! Make it make sense! Lastly, they also need to STOP asking: “what's special about you?”, “why do you want to work at/for (__insert here__)?” These questions are disrespectful and shouldn't be asked! If they're bold enough to ask those disrespectful questions, they should be bold enough to answer them too! That's like me asking you how much do you weigh! Its a disrespectful question that shouldn't be asked! I'm neither your doctor, nutritionist, nor dietician! I have no business asking such a disrespectful question like that and if I do, I should be able to answer my own question being asked BACK to me! If not, don't ask questions that you don't want to answer yourself! As far as the, "why do you want to work at/for (__insert here__)? Ummm...why did you put a job listings out asking for help from job seekers? 🤔 Do you not need help? What kind of a stupid-a**, disrespectful question is that? You put out a job ad/listing looking for job seekers and you're asking them why they applied?!?! That's like a therapist asking a rape-victim, "how does that make you feel?" How TF do you think?!?! You claim to need help with your raggedy-a** business/organization that apparently you can't run on your own! Someone offers to help you **FOR PAYMENT** and you're asking them why! Make that "ish" make sense! The trade-off here, slow bus brain is that you pay them, they'll help you! The end! What don't you get?!?! You need help, they need money! That's why! Da f***?!?! No one should have to have anything "special" about them to provide a BASIC living for themselves in a world they NEVER asked, nor chose to be in! ESPECIALLY when there's NOTHING "special" about the disrespectful low-life that's doing the hiring, asking that disrespectful, distasteful, discriminatory, insensitive question to begin with! Like, dude, WTF is "special" about YOU?!?! You're NOT doing anyone ANY "favors" by hiring them and training them! That's WTF you're SUPPOSED TO DO! You LITERALLY get paid to do so! No one should have to have a reason to work ANYWHERE! If there's a job opening, people apply! That doesn't mean they "want" to work there! They're trying to work for a FAIR, LIVABLE compensation so they can provide for themselves! Nothing more, nothing less!
Agree 💯 percent. They want you to tap dance for them because they know you need the job. But if everyone quit their jobs then it's them who start tap dancing. Immigrants definitely lower income pay, but women can stop all of this nonsense by stopping the births of people.
The issue that I have with the first clip is that people with college degrees are not the only ones out here with value. Trade professionals are extremely important. Let us not have truck drivers and plumbers and A/C techs and nurses if we want to. We gone FAFO.
I don't see it being a problem because in the military you get trained for every job and they have every civilian job except political ones. So it makes sense. Companies should pay for the certifications or degrees they need people to have. That cost shouldn't fall on the employee because then you are working to pay off debt that society required you to have for an income. If oppression is your concern, you don't need an education to know you are being ignored. Plus, women need to stop having children because these males are making it hard for us.
Not at all true (referring to the first lady that spoke). Some people that have trades outearn the majority of people with degrees, the only exception are Doctorate degrees or engineering, medical etc.

And, some immigrants were not?

Research the trade you wanna get into. Look into online or local trades and sign up. Some online trade schools will let you make payments.

Why don't you also check for Accounts Payable and/or Receivable positions while you are obtaining your degree? You can look at temp agencies, sometimes they will have positions for contract or direct hire.@@catmouse2882

Black women cannot afford college and it’s not helping get jobs unless they got something in STEM
This partt!
The issue is black women have degrees and they can't justify not hiring them or not promoting them. Mediocre dwights have trouble competing so...
The goalpost will always be moved
This is the issue. I saw a video this morning of a Whyte man degrading BW's degrees. I looked at the comment section, and the people were making comments such as, "I bet their degrees are subsidized, they are getting meaningless degrees, they have too many children, etc". They are jealous and afraid. I believe this is the root of the whole DEI / unqualified because blk conversations. They are in the process of moving the goalpost. There is a glitch in the matrix.
Im going to college for Cyber Security because I want to have a degree. My second semester ends in two days on December 16th. I was told long after I started that once I get atleast one certificate then I can get a good entry level job that pays well before I finish my degree. Thats my aim for the new year. Im so sick and tired of being broke. If i knew this years ago I would have been so far along. This video is very correct. Go into Stem ladies; get coding certificates (if ur brain can take it), get cyber security certificates, get trade certificates and get your money up. I LOVE this for Black Women. Get ur life up financially. Please stop having tons of babies and being single mothers. Its not cute. Lets normalize Black Women being better financially in 2024.
Unfortunately higher education doesn't equate to higher pay.

Millennial here! If I’d known there were other ways to get into the medical field without becoming a doctor or a nurse I would’ve signed up in a heartbeat! Unfortunately, I grew up during a time where a college degree was everything smh Had I known about the pharmacy technician route in 2008, I wouldn’t be struggling with paying back these loans! I feel so cheated! However, I’m planning on doing traveling pharmacy tech in 2024 because I want my money and I want it now 😂😊
What ppl dont get is nuance
Its not just go get a degree or a trade.
One of these works significantly better for Black women who can always go to college later when their trade pay allows them to afford it
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@Nolepiere Can you point me to resources that discuss the percentage of Black women who have received "useless" degrees? I did a Google search and mainly got information on the top degrees Black people in general are getting, which are in important but lower earning majors like social work.
a degree is only useless if you think it is useless wtf is a useless degree. There are less desirable degrees however if the person who sought out that major had passion for it what is useless abut it? You can have a trade and STILL HAVE NO DAMN WORK. You are aware trades were in high schools since the 50' 60' 70's and what do you know they took most of them out and wanted you to go school to get a college education. Because the less fortunate could not compete. It wasn't until the less fortunate starting getting degree we were making waves in the workforce and footing to compete with "them". Trades are absolutely nothing new Baby Boomers lived off every trade. This lady that spoke about AI AI been around for years. Bottom line you have to do what is right for you and at the end of the day you have to hustle in every form of work. The government cycles these "types" what is the best job every 20 years in the next 20 years they will be asking for terminal degrees no longer BS degree and guess what all those people who dogged out going to school is assed out because they played into the system. You guys gotta be mindful how the system works they are weeding MANY out especially those without degrees. It's all a game just know how to play it. I say having a trade as well as degree serves you well. Never give a person a reason to tell you you are not a fit or qualified. @@Nolepiere
@@cyyrious you don’t have to call it useless. Semantics. You can call it unimportant or low earning. The market determines its usefulness, and because of the income of BW, the market determines most BW are not getting important degrees. The purpose of college is to be more competitive in the market not to read books about what your “passionate” for. If BW were Asian and had parents to pay for college it wouldn’t be an issue but BW are collection debt while not earning more so it’s financially irresponsible and it’s a problem. Don’t act willfully ignorant and pretend you don’t know what the problem is. Y’all want to get through life on easy mode studying African American studies or psychology while everyone else is earning real skills to be competitive.
I’m ok with needing a Bach degree for stuff. It’s the EXPERIENCE level that don’t make no since

In all honesty people are using their trade certificates to pay off their college debt. People are making more money with their trade than their degree and they tend to have more flexibility which gives better work life balance 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
Nursing is tough. Some of those women will chew you to pieces and gang up against for no reason. Cool video tho regardless
They need people to compete. We need everything. I have worked in tech over 20 years. I work in cloud security and devsecops. We earn about 150k to 400k on avg. that’s company dependent.

Trade schools are very necessary. Plumbers, contractors, electricians, hvac, and more are all very important and this country is running out of them bc people don't want to use their hands as much. Trades are honorable careers, guaranteed work, and they keep our world working.
I think because men aren’t going to college much anymore..

Black women been getting into trades. The top medical trades black women have been doing is CNA, medical front desk office assistant and medical assistant.
Nurse aides go out to their patients homes and bath them, cook for them and run errands for them. They also check blood pressure, give meds and check blood sugars. Nurse aides can't be replaced by AI.
And they will be replaced and jobless because their duties can be automated. It’s the lowest paying and the numbers for Black women’s national average income is not where it needs to be to survive hyperinflation, a 2024 food shortage, and recession
@@NoirNoir9 how can you automate a person being washed, cooked for, cleaning, and running errands for them? People who are very sick require a live in nurse or nurse aide to help care for them. Sometimes families hire private duty nurses or nurse aides to go out the country on trips with them to help take care of a sick special needs child. Nurses go out to the homes to do check ups on premature babies and very sick clients. I doubt that can be automated.

That first lady's comments were foolish in a way. I told all 3 of my kids 2 learn trades. I took a trade. I'm a diesel mechanic i make good money have great benefits and a government pension. If society collapses higher education will be useless and alot doesn't pay well anyway. I've looked into certain degrees seen the pay and I'm already making 40k more than what those careers pay.
removing degree requirements means increasing competition for jobs so people are being judged on work experience and results rather than how much debt they went into for a degree lol.
That debt is fake debt, but I totally get it!
Unpopular opinion:
Having a degree doesn't make you "deserving" of a job vs. someone without one.
Lastly, they also need to STOP asking: “what's special about you?”, “why do you want to work at/for (__insert here__)?”
These questions are disrespectful and shouldn't be asked!
Do you not need help?
Where did she say that people with (advanced) degrees were "better"? Sounds like you're triggered and projecting.
@@Michelle.1952
Sounds like your comprehension isn't up to par.
I agree with everything but the way this world is set up smh
Nope do not get rid of highschool diploma requirements.

I think people should look more into entrepreneurship.
Everyone can’t be a business owner and doesn’t have the capacity for that. I think the past several years there’s definitely been an obsession from black women of being a boss and owner and some have succeeded but most have not. Almost everyone on the internet is talking about the low quality of these black women owned businesses, corners being cut, horrible customer service, and over priced product. I think the ‘aesthetic’ of being the owner has eclipsed the reality of being an entrepreneur and unfortunately it’s not working well for BW who lack proper resources, network, capital, and the right motivation to be an entrepreneur
