"Tea is my favorite thing. Imagine being called tea, that would be brilliant" has to be the most British sentence ever spoken by an Irish person
Tea is a huge part of irish culture as much as the english so it kinda makes sense
@@christinefitz77 And why is that? Because of English colonialism.
@@duhusker4383 Tea was introduced all over Europe around the same time, why is it specifically "English colonialism" when it comes to Ireland? You think the English forced them to like tea?
@@like2surf Because tea was introduced to England by Portugal. Catarina de Bragança (or if you prefer her English name Catherine of Braganza) introduced tea during her wedding and it became a drink of choice in the English court. When she became Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, tea spread to Ireland (as Scotland) as consequence of being a colony of England.
@Peacelily Lol, yeah because Scotland wasn't also colonised by England.
“Manganiello” and “Ventimiglia” are italian surnames and as an Italian person I can totally promise you that those are not the correct ways to pronunce them 😂

I feel so sorry for Saoirse. Everytime she goes to America, the shtick is always "your name is weird lol, so we're going to base every interview on just that". So boring.
Right?! And like 2/3 of videos of her on YT is about her name.
lol seriously
yeah they gotta stop with that
She was born in the Bronx and lives in NYC.....shes one of us lol.
I was born and raised in the middle east, doesn't mean i'm Arabic. Fool.
As if they corrected her pronunciation of "Coster" when hers was correct and theirs was americanised to "coaster"
I like how she demanded a point she didn’t even ask “You give me that one” 😂 I like her
As a European it hurts how they pronounce the 'kov'and 'cos'parts. Saoirse pronounced it correctly.
Nasti well bc she is an European
Right?! That's not how you pronounce Polish names at all. Even the Italian ones were wrong. But some of the people might be pronouncing their own names wrong which is just a really painful thought.
Yes! It's just kov, not kove
Yes Why do they correct her, the American version is way more wrong!! She nailed it
I had someone at work whose name was Niamh. Not all uncommon, said like Neeve (just incase you don't know). As part of my job I have to confirm names. What does she say?
NEEMAH. Like you think I'm super stupid or you don't know how to say you're own name.
"Tea's my favorite thing. Imagine being called Tea."
No wonder she's friends with Timothée "Sweet Tea" Chalamet.

"Imagine being called tea! That'd be brilliant!"
She actually pronounces the names way better then the girl that’s correcting her!
Wat
@@monsieur_onion She does. How americans pronounce Coster-Waldau is absolutely wrong ( and thats just an example ). The Waldau souns like Woldow if they say it. Coster is like Costner just without the N, everyone can pronounce that, but the Waldau is said in a norse tune. I dont know how to explain just with words, but the A and AU are spoken more like "Like a Boss" in the song Like a Boss from Lonely Island / Seth Rogan.
Elvira Formiconi I thought the same is because she’s European I was like that’s not the correct way American girl.
Elvira Formiconi right ?? I’ve been watching dancing with the stars for ages and that’s not how you pronounce Chmerkovsky 🤦🏼♀️
I agree, like... Ventimiglia was spot on

As a person named Thea, I'm proud when people call me tea.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is not pronounced as ‘coaster’ 😂 Saoirse was pretty spot on, actually.
Yeah, I thought that was weird...
Yes, she said it pretty correctly
Yup, its like the "cost" just with an er and the end, and waldau is pronounced with an A and AU ( norse / germanic tune ) rather than Woldow. Listen to "Like a Boss" from Lonely Island, how they say Boss in there is the way to go
American's use the long o all the time for some reason
@Monk of the Poon Uh no we don't? I've never heard anyone pronounce some of those names the way the corrections were done in this video, and "long o all the time" bruh where?? Maybe in Toronto.

You beat me to my two-word post.
When she smiles, everything is ok :)
I appreciate the struggles and frustrations she has gone through her whole life with people mis-pronouncing her name.
My last name is simple, but has been mis-pronounced my whole life.
Watching this, I hope she (and others out there) can appreciate, there are lots of other people who also have difficult to pronounce names.
My real first name and last name (not what you see here, this is my first pet and first grade teacher's names, haha) are very difficult. Whenever we'd have a substitute teacher reading off names...depending on my mood, I'd either just raise my hand as their brow furrowed or let them struggle a bit with all the consonants in it. haha
Both my names are fairly simple - Ian Cooper - but somehow people often mangle either the pronunciation or the spelling. I've seen it spelled "Eean Copper" and I've heard my first name pronounced "Eye-on" - most famously by the priest who officiated at my wedding. My wife likes to joke that we aren't married because she married someone called "Eye-on".
The 'correct' pronunciation of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau wasn't even correct lol. Saoirse got it more right than the woman behind the camera.
ı yeeees. Thank you!!! Not that she nailed it at all. But at least she didn’t call him Coaster.
I thought the video was about pronouncing names CORRECTLY and not the American way.
They corrected her even when she was spot-on. Also, she got Gadot wrong and they corrected it as „Ga-dote“, it‘s pronounced the way it‘s spelled: GadoT.
Many actors have to change their names because of English. For example, Zoë Saldana, whose real family name is Saldaña, she had to use "n" instead "ñ" because it is not easy for English native speakers to say a word with that letter.
@@adan_ar She shouldn't have to do that just to accommodate sucky, lazy Americans who don't want to learn how to say it. It's super easy. I say this as an American myself but half White, half Mexican. Even if I wasn't Mexican or Hispanic for that matter, all you have to do with the ñ is pronounce it like "ni" followed by whatever vowel follows it.
@@RadioActiveKissRebel actually it is not like "ni". It is like "gn" in "lasagna" and "nh" in "Ronaldinho"
@@adan_ar Thanks for your correction 😊
Being italian, it's amazing how americans can transform Manganiello in Manganello and Ventimiglia in Ventimilia and think it's correct.
I love Saoirse Ronan! She is a fantastic actress and seems like a fun girl.
You have no idea how happy it makes me that they included Maks as a celebrity!!!!!!! I LOVE DWTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol as an actual danish guy I can say that Saoirse pronounced Nikolaj Coster-Waldau way better than the woman behind the camera
Jesus, your last name is wind? Cool.
@@old.tables1989 Jesus ur first name is notorious? Very cool.
@@paddy801 why thank you.
your name is actually pretty cool
I bet my bottom dollar your last name is pronounced "VIN-T", if it's actually your last name
Funny thing here is that the current american pronuntiation of most of these names is still wrong. I can tell this for italian names: Manganiello and Ventimiglia aren't supposed to be pronounced like the person off-screen does.
Having studied Latin, then Castilian Spanish, it gets easier to pronounce Western European names, and yes, I am from the US. IMHO Americans are too ignorant of the rest of the world. Serving on subs in the Navy allowed us to see a lot of countries, meet a lot of people, this was all before real smartphones. The look on a European's face when someone attempts to communicate in their language is so humbling, because they are mostly so grateful, except the French, lol! I've all studied Greek and Hebrew so Crete and Israel were a lot of fun.
Irish names, by far, are the hardest, as they do not follow any "English" language rules. Ireland truly has their own dialect/vernacular. I love the nuances to the rhythm of the Irish spoken language. It is just beautiful.
@@bobastu I didn't mean to say that americans are ignorant though! In fact, your cool story proves otherwise ;)
@@Deu_terio Well to be fair, that could just be how they pronounce it. People can pronounce their own names wrong. Saoirse herself says she pronounces her name ser-sha, but most people in Ireland actually pronouncer it as soar-sha.
@@smward87 it also depends a lot on culture. My name is Hantz. Like en"hance", similar to Chance. But if I went to Germany it's gonna be HAWns or HAWntz. The British accent will also sound like HAWnts, similar to CHAWnce. There's long and short vowels in every culture and names/words can very easily be pronounced differently.
As far as names go, the parent can spell and say the name however they want.
Kimaya = Kim-MY-uh or Kim-MAY-uh.
They usually pronounce latin names wrong too and it is super funy xdd
Look at the blue in the eyes of this beautiful and talented actress. Simply breathtaking.
I love her she's so adorable ❤️💙
the italian names😭 as an italian person not even the woman in the back pronounced them correctly
Milo Ventimiglia should be pronounced : Mee-lo Ventimiya or something like that, right?
@@theplayer2319 I'd say the way you spelled it is as close as you can get to explain it to a foreigner in written form haha
It's a very unique sound, it sounds like a really "flattened out" L sound with your tongue touching the upper palate.
in realtà lo ha pronunciato abbastanza bene "Ventimiglia"... se non altro meglio della tizia dietro la telecamera..
in reality he pronounced mostly well "Ventimiglia" ...if nothing else, better than the girl behind the camera ..
I hope this comparison helps you to learn some Italian words ... by the way, verti miglia means twenty miles .
@@idek7438 I'm Greek (my first language) and that is also how I would pronounce an "L". I think English speakers pronounce an "L" with the tongue behind the lower teeth. The same applies for the letter "T" .
@@proges oh god i speak italian and never realized that's what it means 😂😂😂😂

She pronounced Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's name totally correct. He is not called "Coaster"...
No she really didn’t. The first vowel sound in Coster was the only thing she got right. And of course. Even worse was the interviewer behind the camera claiming it to be Coaster. Haha. Even worse.
He might not be one but I am sure many people still would like to take a ride

Her "What?!" was so cute when she saw Maksim Chmerkovskiy's. name.
Her face when she got Gal's name wrong haha.
"The people that work with her say Gal Gah-DOH, so they're all wrong." she couldn't be more right. Also, whoever correct Saoirse is wrong again. Its Gal Ga-DOT (with a soft t) not Gal Ga-DOTE. Christ..
everyone thought it was ga-doe. i personally thought it was ga-dot. but actually is a hybrid. ga-doete. she said it herself 100 times now.
It all comes down to your own personal accent I believe. The American press for years kept calling her Gal Gah-DOH even when she politely corrected them. Especially during the press junkets/tour for Wonder Woman the interviewers nearly always pronounced it that way (Gah-DOH), including Chris Pine of all people. Gal's Israeli accent I believe throws people off too slightly when she herself says her name. It does at times sound like she's saying Ga-DOETE as you've said but she's pretty much made it crystal clear it's Ga-DOT "with a soft t at the end" as she said in a recent interview.
Nope it is pronounced gal ga-dote, check out her glamour interview
I think we're all going hear and pronounce her name differently just by the various different ways we hear its pronounced on a daily basis. I'm just going by what i've personally heard her say with regards to hows its pronounced. I hear "Ga-DOT" and if others hear differently well so be it.

Being a Dane I just have to say that her pronunciation of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is spot on, whereas the one behind the camera is wrong.
Isn't Waldau pronounced with V instead of W (at least in Denmark)? I have heard it pronounced like that several times.
@@madeoson yes, it is, thank you. Everyone is debating how to say Coster while nobody stops to think its Waldau they're saying wrong.
