Her patience with everyone talking about the pronunciation of her name needs an award
She's had her whole life to practice
Can you blame them?
Its so annoying when all people want to talk about is your name
Sofia Randal I mean yes, because it's really not a difficult thing to understand, especially after the millionth interview where it's brought up lmfao
@@spudfox6270 I suppose that's true, but then the interviewer would have had to have seen all of her prior interviews, which I'm sure they have not.
Even if the interviewer has by some chance does know how her name is pronounced or had seen one of those interviews, their audience hasn't. Which means it gives the interviewer something additional to talk about whilst also educating them on how to pronounce her name.
The fact is that her name sounds nothing like it's spelled so it's always going to be a talking point. As someone who's always having their surname butchered, I don't think it's that difficult to understand, millionth interview or no.
God I feel so bad for Saoirse. In almost every damn interview she has to talk about her name.
Steve Fury because they're idiots and don't have anything else to say
sweet lollipop she pronounces it seersha in every other interview I’ve seen. Corden said sursha and she didn’t correct him.
probably because her name's a fucking nightmare tbh
@Steve Fury: It's almost like a few years back when I saw a mashup of every time Hugh Laurie was on a talk show and the host asked him "So you're actually English?" There were so many clips... that sort of thing must get so old so fast for these people... but they get paid tons of money, so I guess they can put up with repetitive, boring questions.
Well yeah, because unlike almost every other language that uses the English alphabet (or close enough), it doesn't sound anything like the way it looks. Anyone with the tiniest exposure to French can guess close enough to how a name is actually pronounced, whereas someone with the same amount of exposure to Gaeilge wouldn't stand a hope in hell. You can't blame people for being interested or amused by something that's so extremely foreign to them.
"You Americans always butcher the French language." -- Phoebe Buffay
Cause the french language is crap
NOS french is one of the most beautiful languages in the world
@@Liza33650 lol it's the most fruity
they butcher every language
yoroshiku My daughters name is Phoebe and her school friends call her pho eb or pho E be! Like ugh, don’t these kids watch friends?!?? 😂
Me: *knows her name's pronounced sersha*
Me reading her name: *sao reese*
User Name my lord, you just saved me!! I swear it was Sar o Reese! Oh girl, my name rarely gets said properly!!
Yin it’s not stupid it’s unique and her parents weren’t stupid for naming her that don’t forget she’s Irish and things a pronounced differently there
Yin not stupid at all, I’ve heard someone called their kids ‘Airport Link’ that’s stupid...
I know ALL of the words to the song that she performed on SNL, about how to pronounce her name, but still every time I see it I’m like “sore she.”
lmao.. right.. I don't like when people change the spelling of words or names.. but in the case of a unique name.. phonetic is best
After almost two decades of being asked about her name’s pronunciation, she still jokes about it and answer interviewers patiently. I really admire her.
Yes, I agree. It's been a lifetime for me with the name Colm. One either goes to a zen place or rages against it, I suppose lol.
You admire someone for tolerating being asked about their name?
I admire you, mate.
@@rodrigo53 Yeah I do. Thanks.
well then you should hear Paul MacCartney being asked about and patiently tell the same Beatles stories over and over and over again for decades and decades up until now
Is that Melissa laughing at 0:03
I wanna know what Melissa was going to say :(
I cant believe i found you here nessie 😂
"You nicknamed my daughter after a lochness monster!"
Omg nessie 😂 I can't believe this
LAH ADA NESSIE🤣🤣
Loh ada kak nessie 😂
Everyone: Saoirse, your name..
Saoirse in her mind: Fuck here we go again
"Ok, so we've got Saoirse Ronan on the show, I've got this amaaazing idea for a question..."
Melissa legit looks like a goddess, like the way her hair moves and the way she just gracefully moves her hands....... Okay I'm gay
Khazzy James she takes a shit like everyone else
KRISHTIAN SEVERYE your comment is underrated looool
@@ZarathrustaTate so is taking a shit a bad thing... Somehow?! Like wtf 😂
I honestly love Melissa and I mean I knew I was gay before but holy shit after seeing Melissa (and watching videos of here like every day) my last doubt is definitely gone!
Janita James felt that
the level of attractiveness on that couch..... man
I KNOW !!! James is so hot
my penis just explode
Was going to post the same thing.
nah, Olivia is UGLY
why would you say that, i think she is so much hotter than the other two, although Melissa is also very good looking
melissa looks so much like blake lively!!
I was thinking the same thing!
+miaumiaumiau miau at least she don't have fake bewbs
+miaumiaumiau miau yes!
+miaumiaumiau miau I really don't see it . Melissa seems prettier to me and more natural. Blake seems sexier but not beautiful. I think she has sex appeal but she yet not particularly striking. Also her boobs looks so fake especially after her pregnancy.
+blah wait she was pregnant
One interview she said "Sersha rhymes with inertia." Simple, direct and I've never had to figure it out again.
A whole lotta sexy on one couch.
Only thing is, it depends on the accent. She has a Dublin-ish accent so it rhymes with inertia. In a Donegal accent it sounds even more beautiful and rhymes with earsha (like "ear" as in the body part)
I saw that interview and have never needed to second guess again.
Ya that’s not everyone in Ireland. My best friends name is saoirse and if I called her ‘sersha’ she’d think I’m weird tbh. Everyone outside of Dublin says ‘s-ear-sha’
“Searsha” is more beautiful sounding to me.
1:42
"Ben-wah"
Saoirse: "God?"
Funniest part 🤣
I don't get it. It is some hebraic stuff?
@@GeneralGuardianOfPower It´s because the voice comes from nowhere...
Yeah........... we're not supposed to talk about him
@@SamuelDuplessis12 Vince wouldn't approve
She gets this on EVERY single talk show. Like literally every one I've seen her name is covered. Bless her for still being such a good sport about it.
well then you should hear Paul MacCartney being asked about and patiently tell the same Beatles stories over and over and over again for decades and decades up until now
Nearly every talk show; when she's on a talk show in Ireland, WE ALL KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE IT😀
Saoirse is such a beautiful girl.
+IIG my dream girl...plus that accent is so damn sexy
+IIG /// Saoirse was a 'girl' in her breakout movie "Hanna." Now, she is a WOMAN, and lovely. GET EDUCATED
+IIG She looks incredibly plain & dumpy to me.
+007Fusiion its the accent and personality that does it for me.. of course, people are attracted to similar looking people to themselves.. so you know, boring white people love her more i think
+swish007 I agree, that accent sounds so sexy and her personality seems great from the interviews I've watched. She's obviously not the most beautiful woman in the world, physically, but the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts.
Corden : "oh I like Benoit "
Entire wrestling community: 😧
KRISP BENWAH
Yeah. I always pronouced it Benoit but with the ST at the end
My thoughts exactly, especially since I just the saw the new Dark Side Of The Ring episode last night
No one talks about Kris Pen Wah
There's nooooo HOLDIN me baaaack.
I have never watched an interview of Saoirse where she doesnt talk about how to pronounce her name. Well Im here because I always forget.
"Has everybody seen the new Melissa Benoist?"
Balls
+Luke okeeffe Archer!
+Luke okeeffe I miss Geoff!
+RAYDi8OR And they are glorious. Utterly utterly glorious.
+lilycleo2 DANGER ZONE
I'm not even French and I pronounce her name like it's French. Thought everybody did 😐
I was thinking the same thing. My 2 years of not quite passing college French have finally paid off.
dam french, I SPIT ON YOUR BAGUETTES
long25714 We fart in your general direction.
I was pronouncing it Ben-wa until I heard it in interviews.
Balls.
I've always pronounced Melissa's surname as ben-wa, because i remembered the wrestler named chris benoit. At that time i thought it was spelled the same.
i'm french so i confirm it's ben wa !! because it's french !! she has french root so it's ben-wa !!
I could be wrong but I think that's what she was alluding to when she said she cant use that name.
@@ds5955 She was trying to say that. She's mentioned it in other interviews
@@alexgunn7479 oh didn't know that thanks
Also, it’s the spelling is just different in Benoist because it’s an older version of the name, but it’s the same origin. (I’m French too)
Saoirse has to explain the pronunciation of her name as much as Paul McCartney has to explain the origin of "Let It Be"
🤣🤣🤣
See now I have a vision of McCartney flipping out and going "Ah, you just HAD to ask didn't ye? You couldn't just LET IT BE?"
man offscreen: "ben-wah"
saoirse: *"god?!"*
💀
That was cute
Yeah.............
"guys! have you seen the new Melissa Benoooooiiii? "
Gamax shes Amazing 😍
Gamax no it's Benoit like Chris Benoit
Supernormale yes she’s a supergirl
Supernormale Technically what you're saying would be "Benwe" lol
😂
the first time i read melissa's name i read "benwa" in my mind, but after hearing everyone pronouncing "benoist", her included, i kind of let that go. but i'm proud i noticed how is pronounced in french
I didn’t know she was Irish! Her American accent is incredible!
I’m hearing her accent for the very first time and a bit in shock LOL 😂
I feel for you, Saoirse. I get that as well. (Look at my name)
You guys have the same name!!! Thats so epic! Are you Irish too?
Azfar Jamili Haf. I don't live in Ireland and my Mother isn't Irish but my Dad grew up and lived there for a lot of his life.
+Saoirse Reynolds Thats good to know. And is it correct to pronounce yr name like in the video?
Azfar Jamili Most people say Sarah-Sha, not sersha
Your name is cercei from now on as far as im concern, okay cerci
Saoirse's reaction to Reggie saying her surname. :-D 01:43
Reggie: Benoist
Saoirse: What?? God??
😂
+J. Salazar. YESSSS. So funny. Hahaha
my favourite part hahahaha
Was looking for this comment :)
Mis actrices favoritas Saoirse Ronan y Melissa Benoist juntas❤️
Omg its so great to see Saoirse and Melissa together😍❤️
A whole lotta sexy on one couch.
especially Melissa
You mean James?
That is for sure.
True tho
Mmm . . . Estrogen overdose right there.
I can't believe he didn't bring up Olivia Wilde's real last name. It's freakin' Cockburn! Comedy gold there
+hollowcaustic I was waiting for that myself.
+hollowcaustic Her last name clearly indicates what men feel when they are around her.
+Sando theMando haha dead.
+hollowcaustic I was at the taping of this, and he DID bring up the pronunciation of Cockburn (co burn). It was cut from the show.
+hollowcaustic ohwow! Not gonna get out of the jokes with that name. jesus.
Well, the truth is out: Ireland has stolen all of the vowels from Wales, and used them in their first names.
Mary Ellen Cook I need to applaud your comment. Brilliant!
@@chnadeau1 Thank you!
I'm sure the entire town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch loves this comment.
Nah ye came over and shagged yer way into the country
Hahaha
Wilde, Ronan and Benoist on the same coach. How have i missed this
How can the internet handle this?
I thought it was pronounced "ben-wah" like the French name all this time!
That sounds so much prettier as well.
same!
ben wah balls?
MyLifeAsLouis same
Me too
Best looking bench ever
It's called a couch
I love that Saoirse hasn't lost her accent.
True. I think the same as James McAvoy, they can change their accent without any problem.
@@davidesperanza7701 you should see Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve" & "Free Guy"). She's from Liverpool and her normal speech is in broad Scouse, but she can do RP English, American, Russian, all sorts. Apparently she used to mimic accents she heard on the TV from a very young age.
Surprised the couch didn’t burst into flames in the middle of the interview, with the amount of hotness was on it
Explaining your name on every talk show must get old fast.
I always pronounced Melissa's last name the French way, though. And I'm not even French nor do I speak it. I thought everyone said it like that.
I do it too xD
Just A Leaf same, exactly
Everyone but her family apparently haha. Why you would be a ben-oyst when you could be a ben-wah I do not know...
I too, I think her familly didn't even know were their last name come from.
andimatrus they sure did lol her paternal grandfather was French
God, such an amazing show with all these talented and stunning women❗️👏🏼
these 3 ladies are so gorgeous n very talented actors!!! would so love to see all 3 in a movie and or tv series together!!!!
I keep replaying the part between 1:42 and 1:49, Saoirse's reaction is hilarious 😂😂
LOL I've been doing the same. She's so adorable
Olivia Wilde, Saoirse Ronan and Melissa Benoist all together in an interview?? this is heaven!!!! but anyway Olivia is a goddess!!
+Jack Leo my thoughts exactly!!
+Jack Leo Believe me: I've had this dream before. ... There were less clothes involved, but still. ;)
+Jack Leo I agree but I'm a little partial towards Melissa! and I'd love to listen to Saoirse talk all day everyday!
DId you see her in TRON: Legacy yet? Quite the movie although it takes some time to warm up to it.
No, I haven't yet. I'll get around to it at some point.
I love this video. Every once in a while shows up and I watch it every time
1:44 Saoirse was like "where did that sound came from"? 😂😂😂
where did it come from? who was the person off the screen? LOL
I learned of Saoirse this very morning (Friday 24 Feb 17) and I love how she talks! Beautiful woman and voice! Added her to my list of celebrities to learned about! Thank You Ireland!
i have been pronouncing it the french way. so weird with the "t".
+sundawg911 FYI, the correct spelling in French is actually with the T, no S. The T remains silent though. This is a typical case of a French-Canadian name that was modified when the family emigrated to the US.
+hypyboy They are the same, benoist is actually the original version and Benoît is the "modified" one . The accent circonflexe ^ on the i of Benoît actually appeared to replace "is" in french, it's also used on the o for "oi" ( as in hospital - Hôpital )
+Kira O'Sullivan you learn something everyday. I'm french and I didn't know that. thanks
+hypyboy juste triste de voir qu'en 2 générations la langue française est perdu à jamais, Mélissa Benoît.
+Kira O'Sullivan Interesting. France is currently phasing out the circonflex, which some people are up in arms about. I doubt they know the history of it replacing the "is". lol
I really love how Melissa Benoist looks so strong and confident. She is the true Supergirl, thus I will always obey and worship her as my hero, queen and goddess. 😍
That couch couldn't get any more adorable, cuter or better ! Just the best ! (and smart, too)
I always pronounced her with the French version of the name.
Me too based on the late WWE Wrestler Chris Benoist
Me too. If a name looks French, I automatically use that pronunciation.
The Wrestlers last name was BenOIT... no s.
Also, the story behind the Wrestler would put a lot of people off of pronouncing their last name "Ben-Wah".
That's probably a big factor in why they say it differently.
moreblack I seriously doubt their family would change the pronunciation of their surname because of the WWE wrestler...
damn that's one georgous couch
Then the one with the ladies as well
I had a girl called Saorise in my school year so I was so proud when I knew how to say her name
I was actually pronouncing Melissa's name the french way the entire time and this just made me realize apperantly I was wrong.
She said "Saoirse like inertia" on the Tonight Show, so that's how I remember it.
thats not how your actually supposed to pronouce it though, its sirtia not sertia. the 'i' is like an 'i' from it
It's pronounced Seer-sha!
It’s Seer-sha because in Irish the letters A-O-I together are pronounced as an “ee”, my name is Aoife but it’s pronounced Ee-fa
i just love to hear melissa's laughter
God, I could listen to Saoirse's lovely accent all day...
Been crushing on Melissa since seeing her on Supergirl like crazy
Same can't stop crushing on her
you obviously didnt watch glee lol
I always pronounced the french version for Melissa :)))
Same but i'm French 😅 I can't read it otherwise.
I would agree, but after watching Archer, I can understand why she goes with "Ben-oist"....
Okay yeah I’m still in love with Melissa Benoist
I literally read the title as "Benoa" I can't believe that they actually pronounce it Benois/Benoist .___.
Same... I don’t even wanna Chance my pronunciation cuz that’s just wrong 😅
I know! I was like "It looks french, so probably is Benoa" but since I don't actually know french.
@@mydee1 Literally 😝
@@juandelacruz4679 😜👌🏻
I literally don't know french yet so did i
Melissa just makes me more crazy about her.
Every wrestling fan at 1:33 is like

Everyone named Simpson doesn't have it as easy.
I wanna know of a famous Simpson that isn't f-ed up.
@@DibIrken I'm gonna tell you a little secret: I have no fucking clue what my thought process was on that one.
That couch is on fire reaching supernova 🔥🔥🔥😍.
Well, I found out yesterday how to pronounce her name and I watch her movies since she was a kid, so.... it’s never too much to talk about it in an interview. There always will be a new fan or someone who never watched an interview before.
I've been binging Saoirse interviews but ended up falling in love with James
I nearly died when Saoirse said, "I was like, God?" 1:46 :'DDDDDD
Love hearing Saoirse speak
I noticed on Melissa’s outfit there’s red stripping similar to her Supergirl suit.
Saoirse and Melissa seem like two of the nicest people in Hollywood... Saoirse's accent is just too good!
MELISSA IS SOOO BEAUTIFUL
I LOVE HER ❤❤❤❤
this trio...is all i need
Me: knows her name pronounced Sersha
Me: reading it as SAWARSEE
me too lmfao
Melissa's laugh is just so adorable like a puppy
Saoirse like in the Song of the Sea?
+HarryUnchained Yep.
+HarryUnchained I actually learned how to pronounce the name before knowing there was an actress named Saoirse xD
Ohhh. I love that movie!
+HarryUnchained No lie, that's how I learned to pronounce the name, after watchign Song of the Seas. Such a beautiful name too.
that was the most epic movie!it was beautiful! I feel sorta bad for non Irish speakers though cus half the thing is in it!
It's funny how Olivia Wilde raise her hand before talk 😂

boarding school years did that probably
I love Saoirse's accent.
My name is Celeste and once a substitute teacher pronounced it ka-lee-sta

CitizenPerkins would strawberry blond and a pig work? Haha
+Celeste -- Heehee. Too Funny. Sure, just as long the pig could fly...
that means " from heaven" in spanish.. perhaps you already knew that
Enrique Munguía I knew that it meant heavenly, but not in spanish. That's cool!
She mentioned by name! Meibh (Maeve)
+Meibh O'Sullivan That's funny. Never even knew such a name existed, so I didn't get what she was talking about.
+Joseph Janick Ye it's an Irish name as well
+Meibh O'Sullivan So, how is your name pronounced, in case I meet you someday?
+Joseph Janick em ok may-bh
You sounded reluctant to do that.
I love Melissa benoist and seairse roan!💚
Love to be on the couch with these ladies.
Melissa just got a whole lot sexier when we pronounce her name the french way 😍
i love her accent
saoirse ronan's accent is absolutely beautiful. i could listen to it for YEARS
I'm Irish & I can't stand it. It's one of the worst Irish accents we have in my opinion. You should try listening to the northern Irish accent - now there's an accent to listen to all day.
Always feel nice to hear the correct pronouncing. Like "Gylenhaal" in Conan show
Saoirse is my fav
I agree, Ben-wAh sounds so much better. But then you get some modest association with the wife-murdering WWE star and Canadian Crippler, Chris Benoit. Although all told, that doesn't really matter. Melissa can rehabilitate the name.
I was waiting to hear her reason for not using it and wanted her to say that haha.
as being French, 'Benoit' is actually an old cheesy french first name that does not sound nice at all.
Balls.
RagnarTheRed
classy bro.
Chris Wright You're the one who said "ben wa"
1:08 I love ❤️ Melissa and her laugh
So much lovely on one couch
Three absolutely gorgeous ladies. My heart belongs to Melissa, though. She's wifey material.
She's getting married last time i checked.
Saoirse's laugh at the random voice was hilarious... "God??"

Wow, tough job Corden has, Three beautiful ladies.
My God. These women are breathtaking! 😍
How the hell did Cordon handle himself filming this?
I woulda been a babbling idiot if I were in his place.
Benoist without the T sounds much better. Didn't know she had French ancestry. Cultural lesson 101 for today. Am actually enjoying Supergirl more and more now. They did right by casting her.
A_Cirious_Gamer I just assume words with ois/oit are french words
You are my favorite actress - "The Lovely Bones", later "Hanna"... and now "Maria Stuart"! I love you so much!!!
