Allemansrätten: both public and private land. You stay out of peoples gardens but other than that, you can camp, hike, bike, ride anywhere, following the rules of common sense and leave the place as you found it (don’t do any damage and pick up litter).

Another reason Kiruna is being moved is beacuse about 1000 meters under the town they have been mining which have made the ground the town stands on potentially hazardous and unstable. Parts of the town was demolished already as early as the 1970s for safety reasons. I think there have even been small earthquakes in that part of the country beacuse of the mining operations.

It says that the land needs to be public to be used, but actually the point of allemansrätten is that you're allowed to use even private land. But not so close to so hot can be seen from the house. But like you are allowed to go in forests that are private, as long as you keep away from any house. You're allowed to put up a tent and go berry picking etc.

About the bragging; we usually simply don’t talk about the stuff were we’ve done really well. If it’s exceptional, others will know anyway and can bring it up if they want to. The question you ask yourself is “why am I doing this? (helping others, getting really good at playing guitar or whatever), is it to simply become better at it, to help others or something like that, or is it so that others will praise me?”. Most swedes would not answer the latter.

When they dramatically say that during april weather "anything can happen", take it with a grain of salt, it means that the spring doesn't come smoothly, can get snow or heavy rain after it feels like the summer should be here, the weather is pretty good here so we whine about clouds when we wanted it to be a sunny day 😂
In Sweden it is kind of customary for kids to only get candy on saturdays, most parents do this so that their kids don't get overweight, doesn't ruin their teeth and learn to look forward to good things, many also give them a set amount of money per week or month so that they learn to handle money early and to save up for the things they want to buy, so they can choose how much money to spend on candy and how much to save
Jantelagen(the no bragging thing) applies to acquaintaces and the public.. it doesn't really apply to good friends, with them it is much more okay to brag and share ur happiness 😂

As for the cost och healthcare, I was diagnosed with MS in ’09. Since then my annual cost on my early treatment both accounting doctors appointments and medicinal care was roughly $250. Since the research in medicin has advanced since then and I have recieved new treatment I’m down at approximatily $60 a year. I’ve only been on sick leave for a total of maybe four months during this last 14 years and still work full time and have even advanced in my duties as far as responsibility and pay check. Three of those four months was also during my initial diagnosis and finding of right treatment, so for me the healthcare is awesome.

35:16 Oh Nils Holgersson. We had the animated series on Sourth African TV around the 1990's and it was dubbed into the Afrikaans language. When earlier in the video the Kebnekaise Mountain was mentioned, I immediately thought of the leader of the flock of migrating geese, Akka von Kebnekaise who reluctantly allowed the miniaturised Nils Holgersson and the domestic goose he was flying on to join their flock,
Anyways... met some Swedes many years ago on a train trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town and they didn't seem as 'stoic' as what they are made out to be, but maybe they were over-compensating with te super friendliness and familiarity because they were tourists and a train's lounge & diner carriages are small space and fellow passengers on a long trip tend to interact more easily..

30:45 There's actually always emergency dentists available, so you would probably get an appointment the same or next day here in Sweden. Same with health care, even though if you've got a broken arm the emergency room will prioritise (this spelling seems wrong lol) others in more need so you might have to wait a few hours to get treatment depending on what day/time it is.
37:35 Can recommend reading Astrid Lindgren's book "The Brothers Lionheart" (Bröderna Lejonhjärta). In my opinion her best book. It's about death in a way, but also about adventures.

36:50 Amish are actually from Switzerland , mostly to the Alsacia region where people speak Swizz German, and that is why the language the American Amish speak very much a version of Swiss German.. They actually migrated to America after major split in the Swiss Menonite Anabaptist church in the late 1600's and have along with Menonites who they share many similarities and relations with been preserving their religious culture ever since. There are also a few isolated small Amish communities in Canada, Bolivia, and Argentina

    • @Perisa79
      @Perisa79 Рік тому +1

The religious Amish people of North America originally originate from Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and France. The members are descendants of the Anabaptists - a radical Christian movement that emerged after the 16th century Reformation.
The group wanted to return to early Christianity and advocated adult baptism and pacifism - which made it vulnerable to persecution from both Catholic and Protestant sides.
At the end of the 17th century, the Amish arose after a religious split within the Anabaptists. In search of religious freedom, the Amish migrated to America and settled in Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
Today, from the beginning only a few hundred Amish have grown to over 300,000 and they are spread over large parts of North America. The group interprets the Bible literally and harbors a strong aversion to most forms of modern technology.
      ##
Flee from Europe to the USA
The Amish lived in scattered, isolated communities in Central Europe.
Religious persecution drove them in the 18th and 19th centuries across the Atlantic, where they settled in the northeastern United States. Today there are no longer any Amish communities in Europe.
      Immigration in two waves:
1525: The Anabaptists - the “rebaptists” - emerge as a radical reform movement in Switzerland.
1693: The Amish break with the Anabaptists after a religious dispute over, among other things, excommunication.
1730: First wave of Amish arrive in the United States.
1810-60: The second large wave of Amish arrive and settle in the northeastern United States.

If there is to many there will be greater chances of sickness. Also elkes have big territories and if to many they could getting lost and start walking in to the cities that would be stressful for the animals. Unfortunately that happens anyway from time to time. Dears and elkes mostly move more at dawn and sunset. Daytime they is deeper into the forest. Why we have the "Systembolag" is because of our history. when people drank so much that the government had to regulate the drinking
