I've read somewhere that in Denmark vitamin D is classified as an antidepressant. Not sure if that is true - but if it is, it would explain the high rates. You can't go through a danish winter without taking vitamin D. That is a nessasary supliment when the sun never comes out. :)

    • @TheDemouchetsREACT

We can all benefit from Vitamin D.😊

    • @kinuuni
      @kinuuni Рік тому +6

@@TheDemouchetsREACT It is true. Denmark is at the same latitude as New Foundland in Canada and up here, even when the sun is out, it is so far away for 6 months of the year it is not possible to absorb any vitamin D from it. The reason for categorising vitamin D as antidepressants has to do with medical aid. Usually you don't get medical aid for vitamins because they are not categorised as medicine, but if you get a prescription for vitamin D, as many of us do, it is categorised as an anti depressant in order to make it viable for medical aid.

The high depression rate may have to do with the short light hours during their long winters. Finland which not too far from Denmark also has high depression because of the weather.

Yeah its dark when you get up and meet at work and its dark when you get off work. The only sunlight you get is the few rays you catch through the window while being at work. It's soul-crushing depressing. Why its so important to get out and enjoy the light hours in the weekends.

Denmark has an Aussie Princess Mary who's married to Crown Prince Frederick. She's a bit like Cinderella over here in Australia. Starting out as just your average Aussie Lady from Tassie (Tasmania), Australia. The night they met he introduced himself as "Fred from Denmark." and she introduced herself as "Mary from Tassie." Just as he was about to leave that night he told her about being a Prince. Being a typical Modest, Down To Earth Aussie he had to convince her, that he was serious about her. He had to pursue her for a while. She was living in Sydney and he'd come over for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. They got Married in 2004, the most memorable part of the wedding was when He cried with happiness upon seeing her. So far it has been a case of and they both lived happily ever after... Post Covid they'd always come back to her family home for Christmas. We love her over here because she's still our loveable open, genuinely friendly Mary. Celebrities usually discover that they don't really need a security detail over here. When their over here Fred, Mary and Family are regularly seen going shopping etc just like anyone else. Shortly after our borders opened again Princess Mary came to visit her friends and was photoghed going shopping with them.

About the consumption of anti-depression meds. Vitamin D subs are classed as a an 'anti.depressent', we don't get a lot of sun during winter, so most people take vitamin D to help with the lack of sun light.
Do with this knowledge what you will.

Visits to the doctors are free, which is perhaps why we use them more freely than americans. On that note though, i know a couple of people on antidepressents, but theyre better off now than before.
No matter what, keep that in mind.

It's a few signals in a row and then a pause and then a longer all clear signal. People get really worried and scared when they hear it on a different day or when something goes wrong with it. Luckily that does'nt happen very often! Btw, have you reacted to Geography now Sweden?

Winther depression is a real thing in Denmark.
because of it being dark 24/7, your vitamin D gets low
Therefore a lot of vitamin D supplements, and antidepressants get perscribed
I don't think depression is a cultural thing, as much as it is a seasonal thing in Denmark 😅

the high depression rates isn't all that wrong... however, it is most commonly caused during the winter and is most commonly found in people who work in workplaces that are indoors, since during the winter the sun raises around early forenoon 09:30 to 10:00 AM, long after people have already gone to work and are indoors, and it sets again very early in the day around 02:30 to 03:00 PM which is normally a few hours before people get off work... resulting in a large number of people not really seeing the sun for a whole work week since they will be arriving at work while it is dark and leave work while it is dark... this causes a shortage in Vitamin D which can lead to depression... we have a word for it... it's is quite literally called Winter Depression... and it is surprisingly common... it doesn't really count as a real medical depression... but is taken seriously none the less... and it is known that Vitamin D is prescribed as an antidepressant... oddly enough. in short... that fact is a little... eh... skewed to say the least. xD

I'm Danish , I think the level of anti depressant has to do with how easy it is to go to the doctor about every small thing because it "free" it's not really free we pay high tax, bu people don't pay the doctor and the doctors in the west have a tendency to quickly recommend medicine , another thing is winter depression it gets dark very early in winter-around 4 pm , it's dark when you go to work and dark when you get off from work, that's said nobody in my family or among friends use antidepressants although I get kind of a little depressed in the winter time, all in all most people are quite happy with their life

Well to be honest, you can’t really be unhappy to live in Denmark. And by that I mean we are so secure in pretty much every way. We do not have a lot of crime, we can leave our children outside a cafe or a store in their strollers without being scared that anyone would snatch you child or hurt it. If you loose your job the government will pay you 90% of the salary you earned at you job for 12 month. After that it’s about 75% they will pay you for another year. And as for me I got sick and I can not work anymore so I got an early retirement pay every month at around 2250$. They will pay me that amount until I turn 72 years old and then I will get 1300$ a month. You get paid to get an education so not only it the university free but the government pays you a certain amount every mont just to study. The second you start working after school you get a pension and you have 6 weeks of fully paid vacation. Our hospitals, doctors are free and we do not pay much for medicine.
So for my perspective I can’t see if anyone would not like to live here except the very dark and cold winter month. And I think that’s where the depression kicks in. It’s hard because we have very long and very light summer nights where it s only dark for a few hours so at 3am it’s starting to be bright outside. And the we have those dark dark month where the sun gets up at 7:30-8 am and goes down around 4:30-5pm. Those month are very hard ( for me at last)
But I feel very lucky to be danish as I plans to move to Spain because of the weather I can not stay in Denmark as it’s too cold for me. But I can get my entire pension with me and because the currency are much lower in Spain than Denmark I will have so much more money to live for.
You should watch “Traveling young” on their trip to Sweden this summer and see what I mean about those long bright summer nights. It’s called Long summer days in the nordics.

@@TheDemouchetsREACT well what can I say the Dane’s loves to complain.
I’ve been living abroad for some years in London, England and before I didn’t really think so much about how we as Dane’s were or behaved. But I can tell you it was a massive chock to come back again to all that complaining and envy and grumpiness. I found out the Dane’s are incredible unhappy about everything and I just don’t know why. What do we have to be unhappy about ? In my perspective sometimes a country can get so wealthy that people have no ideas of the struggle a great part of the rest of the world lives in. The English people always asked me why I moved away from Denmark and I tried to explain to them that I wanted to see how other parts of the world lived and that I could alway return home again in our little bubble 🫧 as we call it here in Denmark. A bubble where we are so so lucky to live such a priviylife and still people complains all the time.
For me I figured out that I don’t really feel like a Dane anymore. I want to live with people that knows how to appreciate life and love their lives even though they do not have much money. People right now complain about a stupid Christmas hat for their children that’s been sold out and we gos some pretty angry parents because of that. And see see that all the time here and I just don’t like that kind of negativity around me. And of cause also because I won’t have as much pain when it’s summer all year round pretty much so I’ll have to move away from here. I can not be sure if we eat so much antidepressants medicine but a reason study showed that we don’t get enough vitamins D and that might be the reason that people get depressed. But still I can not understand the Dane’s anymore. I fight a quite hard fibromyalgia with pain 24/7 all over the body and a severe fatigue constantly. I don’t want to complain about my life and that I never get to work anymore or that I sometimes only can walk for a few hundreds meters. I want to live life to the fullest and I want to surround my self with happy people.
Sorry for my very long answer but I have to be honest about Dane’s and Denmark it’s not all that jolly go round all the time that’s for sure. As you say America is not perfect.. we’ll not is Denmark but it’s pretty darn close to it just not the Dane’s.
