The song is officially called "Hic Svnt Leones" and while I can understand you translating it, it might be a bit harder for FFXIV players to know that's the translation just to say lol The lyrics are sung by two people at the same time: Masayoshi Soken and Koji Fox. Soken sings the majority of the stronger vocals with Koji assisting. Both of them belong to the band The Primals who are the official FFXIV band. Soken composes a majority of the music in FFXIV (and FFXVI) while Koji Fox is the lead lore writer and English localiser. All that being said, the post-production isn't a factor at all due to the song having a studio version by The Primals, but as you said they subdued the lyrics and certain instruments to not distract the player on purpose. That being said: check out songs by The Primals as well when you can! They do arrangements of ingame songs with a more studio flare to it. They're huge in the fanbase.

hey maybe a fun idea for future reactions. FFXIV makes use alot of lightmotives in it's songs mainly like 2 or 3 per expansion. The Expansion trailers are a good way to get introduced to them while also having some nice eye candy and looking at beautiful animations. The last trailer for upcoming expansion Dawntrail also just droped if you wanna check it out maybe in form of a littel series of videos as that is now the 6th expansion that we are getting.
'No one song represents a whole soundtrack'. That's especially true with the FF14 battle/boss themes. The composers deliberately try their hand at a range of genres and styles, from 'let's revive Evanescence for a sec here and have some fun with that' to magical girl anime nostalgia, from guitar-heavy songs to ethereal mystic-y vocals to a lyrical whirling fresh waltzy one to eerie horror vibes to specific cultural references to techno jazz to classical. I could go on for a while. It's an absolute joy to hear the new things they come up with every update, and they've kept the streak going for years.
Yee. I love hearing composers get experimental. It can be hard to put that into words because I'm usually still thrown off by those new approaches, but as a musician it's still interesting to hear them. Doing one genre exclusively can work sometimes, but can definitely get boring in time. Especially over the course of 14 main line games 💀

I think you'd like listening to the music from The Protomen. I think their best songs are Breaking Out, The Hounds, and Light Up the Night
