If you like this track and want a similar vibe check out The Black Wolf Stalks Again, also from FFXIV. It's the Emerald Weapon trial theme, but it's tough to adequately appreciate it during the fight.
I'll add it to the list!
oh gaaaaawd all those weapon-fight themes are as brilliant as the questline critical hits the feels like only ff14 can!
Least my understanding of the lyrics is from the perspective of the two bosses this song plays one as they have lost control and are enticing the raid team to follow them
Pretty much, yeah. What little is left of them crying out as they become monsters, but no one to hear their screams (get it? ;_;) and slowly driven mad. Should look at The Eorzian Archives breakdown of this and other songs, very well detailed.
I'm pretty late and maybe it wasn't that far story-wise when you made this comment, but I always interpreted this song as having a double meaning in that it also related to Hephaestus and Athena's relationship.
I literally just discovered you through this vid. I would definitely say that if you haven't already, check out "Answers". It is such an impactful song that I literally cannot listen to it without either feeling somber or getting goosebumps. I would also say that taking a look at the accompanying cinematic "End of an Era" would also be a good idea. Not only did the song actively match up to the cinematic, it was literally the way they ended the original iteration of the game. It was a horrendous game at launch and they tore it all down to remake it into what it is today.
The main way I focus enough to fight is to time it that the moment the chorus begins, I rip into my burst window.
Not sure what they were going for, but to me this song touches on the duality of predator and prey. It's like the song is challenging you, are you going to be the lamb consumed? Or will you become the monster? As the song progresses as you realize how hopeless it is, and no help will come from outside, the corruption sets in and you also become predator.
It's from the perspective of two different bosses. One was a willing participant in an experiment by their master to attain godhead, the other an unwilling victim of said experimentation. So some of the lyrics are reflective on the person who willingly allowed themselves to become a twisted abomination and how they are taunting the player, and the other are from the victim begging to be put out of their misery.
I was FLOORED when this theme started playing during the 6th raid, so freakin' good! xD
I could barely raid the first time I heard it. Just vibin.
I could be mistaken but, I think the song is about the boss. She used to be a person and I think the song is describing her forced transformation into the tree. This song is also used for the boss right before this one, who also was forcibly transformed. Although not as much as this one.
It's about both her and hesphestos
When you think about it, raids and their mechanics are just timed puzzles, which when you combine them with musical scores, become dance numbers.
Raid wides literally go off on the base drops. Spin and stack mechanics wind up on the crescendos and so forth. lol
The music helps, if you pay attention to it.
Normal FF XIV Players Love this song,
Savage Raiders Absolutely despise this song 🤣🤣
Understandable, I would hate to listen to this on repeat. Isn't really that good of a song anyway
FF14 Answers is an amazing song
Soken shines when someone hands him a guitar and tells him, "Make it hard; make it grungy; make it a definite head-banger." He's yet to fail in that regard.
No coincidence that the first FF legend composer is a prog rocker at heart with Uematsu who had a prog rock FF band, The Black Mages. Now we have Soken and his group, The Primals. Truly a great time to be a Final Fantasy fan.
I usually don't recommend cover songs. But you should listen to Skar's cover of this song. Collaboration with Husky and Kristin Starkey.
They totally elevated this song and own it now.
Song starts: Immediate rocker 'stank-face'
Since there are so many bangers during boss fights in FF you get used to concentrating won the fight while jamming ... that said when you do it for the first time it can cause deaths :D since you get caught up in the jam on the first hear :D
This is so true. I recently decided to tackle Neo-Exdeath solo as a GNB, and I put this track on for BGM since it was my current "high focus mode" song. It was the music equivalent of "gamer pose" leaning forward, elbows on the knees, full focus LOL
It's so good! Soken😍🤩🥰
My first thought was Nightwish.
FF music transcends normal everyday music by far, imo
I have to tread carefully, but the lyrics are not about the bosses, but rather the character featured in the story. Look carefully at the revelations at the end of this raid tier, then re-read these lyrics.
This track absolutely invokes Evanescence.
There's a KILLER remix on UA-cam, this song vs Going Under. It's so good.
link to video is wrong, thats answers not scream.
Changed now. Thank you!

I recommend you listen to a cover of this song by Skar. His cover is better than the original.
