Before he’d go off to work he’d go in my room and wake me up with a sippy cup of nesquik and a nice fresh tortilla w salt, but bc they were freshly made they were nice and soft, so he’d crumple it in his hand and mold it into the shape of an animal. Indeed, for years I worked with many Carribean (PR/DR/Cuba) Hispanics who never considered snacking on tortillas, but LOVED plantains - maduros frito, tostones, plantain chips, someone would regularly be running to the nearby bodega to get a snack and a café con leche...

      @@artemisa1523 in my country, indigenous people adopted plenty mexican traditional food and customs. There was an indigenous group where my father is originary from known as the Chorotegas and they keep making traditional food based on corn since the coast was an accesible zone fpr immigrant indigenous group for exchanging products and culture. I live in central america and here people eat and sew wode varieties of avocado so yes, people still make handmade tortillas the way pur ancestprs did and also eat aindustrial tortilla and benefit from the natipnal production of avocado. It definetely depends on the country but here we really enjoy of that food. That also depends on ypur definition of "spaniards" or hispanics, because i know i am not from the Iberic peninsula and rather from latin america, which makes me latina; however I was taught that I could also be hispanic since our country was colonized by spanish people and I have spanish ancestors as well. Hope that clears out your doubt for my particular case.

      @artemisa1523 Рік тому

      @@minoh3213 but eating tortillas is just a Mexican and some countries of central America thing, is not something you can generalized as "Hispanic", "Arroz con leche" is an Hispanic food, that food is in every Spanish speaking country. Here in South America we don't eat tortillas, so we aren't Hispanic? Why is Mexican food the standar for "Hispanic" food? Even empanadas are eaten in more Hispanic countries than tortillas

    • @minoh3213
      @minoh3213 Рік тому

      @@artemisa1523 well, that's what I just pointed out in my comment, is not the same in all countries; I was speaking from my particular case and my definition of hispanic (most of the population in my country is descendant of spanish people), however that doesn't make it a standard for all LatinAmerica neither only a Mexican thing. I appreciate your point and I am sure that not all people eat it but I was comenting my case, and definetely apologize if it spunded as a generalization, that's why I tried to clarify my point. Plus, I do not limit it to only hispanics, I said "as a Hispanic" since I feel identified with eating it almost everyday since tortillas and avocado are the things I can easily find at home and avocados grow in my backyard. I do not ignore that globalization and the international marrket have both been a helpful tool for providing people with that specific food. I reiterate: I was just sharing my experience and it is understandable that it was confusing because I did not clarify my conrext and the perspective from which I was saying it at first. I am not trying to discuss wether tortillas are Mexican or not, since we all know that it is a product that grew and started being comercialized thanks to that culture but is more traditional rather than industrial in some countries of Latin America with exceptions and some others.

Pure heaven!). The way the sugar and butter melt together when your tortilla (or toasted bread) is hot enough, it’s just so delightful! Simple pleasures!
