The thing I liked about Cregan was that he put the fear of God into pretty much everybody he meets in the South, and he's only in his early 20s.
Yea he's a super imposing character, I really hope they get the casting right for him.

Maybe he's inspired by King Baldwin IV, the Leper King?
And he could've seized absolute power for years if he wanted. But he did what he thought needed to be done and quickly returned to Winterfell instead. Only a Stark would have that kind of power in his hands, and willingly walk away from it.

Just completing the Fire and Blood audiobook. Cregan had that rare blend of smartness, ethics and somewhat cruelty that his descendants Ned and Robb lacked. Hope the show will do justice to his character.
And yet oddly enough Jon also has that blend (atleast in the books)…
House Stark stands with Rhaenyra, the true queen. I find it laughable that the Greens thought they could get the Starks to forget, let along renounce, their oath to support Rhaenyra as the heir.
Cregan Stark's appearance is one of the things I'm very eager to see in House of the Dragon. I highly doubt that Jacaerys tried to convert Cregan from the Old Gods, since the Lord of Winterfell would probably find that very offensive, but one thing that I really hope they keep is the bit where Cregan beheads that kinslaying creep Larys Strong with Ice.
As if he deserves such a mercy, as a Valyrian sword- dude should get the headsman's ax, at best...

A Stark never breaks an oath which is something the greens should've known. During the hour of the wolf he executes members of the Kings guard for breaking the oath to protect the King and some knights chose the black which he allowed. Which is something Ned Stark was right about Jamie Lannister he should've been made to take the black because to the Starks an oath is sacred.
Great info here. I did not know some of it. I can't wait to see the friendship between Jace and the Starks and what role it'll play later on. Give me anything Stark and North and I'll be a happy camper. Anything that reminds me of Jon is great.

Listening to the different accounts from fire and blood used to annoy me, but now I realized George rr Martin set it up perfectly to let hbo choose the most interesting stories. That is actually incredibly smart, tossing out ideas basically and have hbo decide which is true and fill in the blanks.

Cregan kinda reminds me of Cao Cao but less ambitious. Cause Cregan could've gone full Cao Cao and ruled the kingdom.
He certainly could've easily taken the Throne after the Hour of the Wolf, but that's what I love about the character, he's a true Northman & knows his place is in Winterfell!

Honestly I think Cregan knew jace was a bastard he just didn’t care because they technically share the same blood jace from harwin that of being the first men so Cregan saw they had the same blood and saw jace as a brother.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Confirmed to Bring Back House Stark, Fans Demand Henry Cavill as Cregan Stark. No matter the character, fans can't seem to get enough out of Henry Cavill. The showrunners and George R.R. Martin confirmed the feature of Winterfell in Season 2 of House of the Dragon.
I hope they also show White Harbour- as Jace does go there, & given how Davos describes it in the main book series, it would be interesting to see the North's only city- it's the smallest of all of them, but it's described as very pretty...

Its looking like the show is starting with a younger Cregan based on what Rhaenyra said about Cregan being closer to Jace's age than hers. My top choices would be, for a younger Cregan, Alexander Dreymon from The Last Kingdom. As an older Cregan, Clive Standen from Vikings.

Nice picks!! Alexander Sarsgaard is my ideal casting for Aegon the Conqueror, he's got the height, the hair & general Targaryen look all around. Karl Urban is great too I'd love to see him as Cregan or maybe even a young Robert Baratheon if they ever do Roberts Rebellion

I think we would love him more as Aegon, who had the right blend of fierceness & mercy for a true king. But after his role in Mission Impossible, it'd be interesting to see him play a bad guy again- & let him go balls-to-the-wall with brutality. And Maegor was also described as very big for his age, so Henry being older wouldn't matter so much. ..

Yes!! I think Clive Standon is perfect as well. He's just a little too old for this version of Cregan unfortunately. The Cregan on House of the Dragon is in his very early 20's. Which is why id love to see someone like Alexander Dreymon or Leo Sutter in the role.

As much as I like JDM I would rather see Henry Cavill or Karl Urban.
Probably the most misunderstood character. What is extremely interesting about Cregan Stark is that the author gives a lot of clues to the true nature of the character and yet, almost everyone misses it because almost everyone is fooled by two points : the external description of the character, and the fact that he is a Stark. So almost everyone sees Cregan Stark as a great, charismatic warrior when his every action actually shows the exact opposite.
He swears loyalty to Jacaerys Velaryon but it then takes him more than two years to gather an army of ten thousand men, where Robb Stark had needed a few weeks to gather twice that number. Nobody sees the problem ? He intervenes precisely at the moment when it is certain that the Greens will not be able to oppose him with any dragon. Still no one ? He manages to arrive after the army of the Riverlords while the North has not seen any combat and the Riverlands are ravaged from east to west. Still no one to understand ?
When he arrives at King's Landing, there's obviously nothing left to do, but that was his goal all along anyway. So, to make everyone forget that he played no role in the war, he threatens Aegon's former allies to continue the fighting. For what purpose ? With which army ? With what supplies ? He is not stupid, he knows very well that his ten thousand starving northerners would have no chance of being able to reach the Green fortresses in winter. He also knows that the Hightowers have seized most of the supplies during the war, that they can raise an army faster than anyone, that they are the richest house in Westeros at this point, not even counting the share of the royal treasure they hold. He knows that the Tyrells would never let an army of Northeners invade the Reach. He also knows that neither Storm's End nor the Hightower nor Casterly Rock ever fell. And finally, he knows his army would be greatly outnumbered by his allied foes, and probably even by the Hightowers alone. Why would a lord who didn't fight when Rhaenyra needed him would prolong a losing war when no one wants to fight anymore ? Quite simply because they are just words, and he has no more intention of fighting at this moment than in the previous two years.
When he realizes that no one wants to play pretend with him, he turns against Aegon's assassins. But again, only two of them who absolutely do not seek to defend themselves will be executed. He also turns against Corlys Velaryon, but he gives up on doing him any harm when Alyn Velaryon threatens to attack King's Landing with his fleet. After presiding over his trial parody, he resigns, leaving Tyland Lannister, the Green Council's most loyal member, to rule the kingdom.
In the end, the guy did absolutely nothing. He waited, spoke, threatened in vain, without ever doing anything concrete. He managed to never have to fight a single battle, and showed up when the war was already over to put on his act as an honorable and charismatic warrior, talked about a virtual war, executed two people who practically volunteered to go to the sword and abandoned his position to let one of his former "enemies" lead the realm. Cregan Stark is the King of cowards and Emperor of blusterers. And it's not for lack of having put clues everywhere...

@@therogueprince5553 he damn near intended to start the war again after it was fucking over, he didn’t clear the court of anything, he just killed a bunch of people under some pretend justice then fucked off. nothing was solved by his bs, and just a bunch more people were dead. the war was over by the time he showed up then he thinks he gets to just play judge, jury and executioner. you know who deserves praise? tyland lannister. the guy who actually put work into stabilizing the realm after the dance

Yup, then Cregan went on to become one of the best Wardens of the North ever, achieving many great feats well beyond just the Dance of the Dragons & is widely regarded as the best ruler the North ever had.

"Aemond one eye" is the character on House of the Dragon & "Aemon the Dragonknight" is a legendary Kingsguard Knight, known as one of the greatest fighters the Seven Kingdoms has ever seen. One way to tell the difference between them is their names. Aemond one eye ends with a D & Aemon the Dragonknight ends with an N
