Porting Tools: Cylinder wall scratch & scoring - Stopped in 5 Easy Steps

  • Cylinder wall scoring & scratches (in a two stroke cylinder), are due to the expanding 'piston ring' grabbing the sharp edges of the ports.
A set of tools and cutting grit (Port Toolz™) have been designed specifically for converting the sharp port edges into 'load bearing surfaces'.
The tools shown in this video can be purchased for € 20 from
    fuelmapper.com/
Transport costs range from € 3 to € 8 depending upon your choice of service
Carburettor tuning software is also available for € 8, when purchased with the porting tools.

Wouldn't the piston rings do this by itself, and once the piston rings are worn out a bit you can change them?

If you are lucky, the bores may survive this process, however it is often the case that the bore becomes scratched or deeply gouged ... the hardened piston ring catches the port edge, ripping the metal down the bore.
There are other benefits, but securing the bores is the most visible ;)

@@EngineTuning I see, and this would be the most common issue in cheaper top ends I would assume? or do the really expensive ones also come with this issue?

@@EngineTuning Also, if we were to bore the piston rings instead, wouldn't that have the same effect?

      It's hard to say.
You need to examine new cylinders under a good light.
If the ports have razor sharp edges...
When the ring deforms into the port ... as it reforms its shape to the cylinder, it can catch the sharp edge ... in a millisecond, the damage is done.
Therefore, at very least remove the sharp edges.
The problem for manufacturers is that; radiusing the ports is a time consuming task.
Hence, it is left to the customer, or dedicated tuning shops.

Regarding modifying piston rings ... you can't.
Anyway, the problem is with the ports not the rings.

I went on the website and could not find how to get the tools

Sorry Bradley; I stopped making them.
While they may look simple; there are many steps in their production.
As it happened ... the last batch of raw materials saw me getting injured, during one of the processes.
I figured that it was a sign to stop.
I'd helped a lot of people, so the decision sat well with me.
At least you have the video, and you can diy some tools for yourself.
Good luck with your project :)

Sounds like you need to bore all the cylinders out

Yes, I would agree with Taydrum :)

Hi engine tuning, what type of files are you using in your video and where can I buy them ? I assume this video and information you’ve revealed will work well on small engines like saws also? Cheers great video.

      Hi Brett :)
I stopped making them after the last batch.
      It had been coming...
They are kind of simple, and I'd made the bending jig; but there are a lot of manufacturing steps.
At the time, I didn't have a lathe; so I was drilling the wood body by hand , and.....
Yeah, yeah, yeah ... the drill slipped, and went through my finger.
      Ouch!
No problem; it's a man's wound; but I figured that the cosmic consciousness was telling me something :D
Consequently., I sold off that batch, and then put up the notice that you have seen :(
Overall, I was doing it to help like minded individuals, and I figured that you could knock some tools out for yourself.
      Life eh?
      :)

What's the name of that file tool

    • @EngineTuning
      @EngineTuning  3 роки тому

I called them 'Port Toolz' because it seemed to work ... sort of better than 'Port Tools' :D
From the last production batch, I have just 2 sets remaining.
I'm going to discontinue them for a couple of months, until I have my new lathe set up.

@@macmotorizedbike3834 Yeah, the purchase link works.
Paypal send me an email notification of a purchase.
I then package the tools - 2 tools, 4 heads, with the cutting compound.
I would advise you not to choose delivery with signature, because if no one signs for the parcel, then it gets returned to me - this has happened ;)
Once posted, I will update the paypal transaction, and they state that they will confirm to you by email, that the tools have been shipped.
      :)
