The 8-pin power connector below the 24-pin one is definitely not extra juice for “the PCI express”. It’s for USB-C power delivery through the USB-C Header.

The Pro Art X870-e Creator board is low key the best "high end" pick from Asus.
Strip away the Heros fancy looks, aspirational overclocking features (that 99% of buyers won't use) and the screen and you basically have a Creator board + that also comes with a built-in 10gb NIC.
The only thing that's missing is a postcode, which given the leaked pricing is absolutely outrageous.

The PC component manufacturers are following the mobile games strategy. Pay influencers, suck people in who are in desperate need for a community surrogate, display shiny commodities for bragging rights and use the braindead merry go around positivism of spending money and consumerist relief. There are whales in every culture... Asus targets the ones in this community and to incentivize them for buying the shiny new armor, they nerf the regular armor.

@@tehehe5929 And that is my friend exactly the problem in the world, not just with Asus, but anything else with a brand name, be it cars mobiles watches cameras whatever, as long they have so many careless buyers who just keep spending and spending blindly they will keep high price for their products even if there are cheaper same/similar performances products elsewhere or if the extra quality and gadgets aren't really necessary, how come i have a Ferrari with speed of 400mph while i drive it in city for only 100mph maximum some roads but less in another, same with cameras having 200mp when i only need 20-40mp maximum if i will never print larger, so Asus with their WGISTLES mind blowing look mobo will ask you your arm or leg if you want it.

You still get 5 m.2 slots and it also has a slimSAS connector which has 4xPCI-e lanes available to it. So you can use it to connect other peripherals as well. Including enterprise u.2 SSDs. (if you get the proper adapter). You're really not loosing much, if anything. Since, as I said, if you're getting this kind of motherboard you're almost certainly going to have a GPU in there that's so big that it's going to block that middle slot, which would be wasting all those lanes of PCI-e. This setup honestly offers more actual utility than wasting space and PCI-e lanes on a slot that's going to be unusable

I don't see the purpose of quick releases on motherboards. In my opinion they introduce unnecessary weak points and extra cost without offering real convenience. No one is going to swap M.2 SSDs very often except if he is a tester but then, if you are a tester you are going to install the motherboard on a test-bench where everything is easy to swap anyway. I like the too many ports and connectivity options but this is to be expected for the price you have to pay for those high end motherboards. Can't wait for the review and testing because this is what's most important. Thanks for the great overview.

Two PCIe slots and that's it? Not gonna work for me, WTH! Guess I'll have to go with another vendor, I need minimum 3 slots. 5.0G and 2.5G ... OMG garbage, so I have to fill one slot with my 10G NIC. This is ridiculous! WTF were ASUS thinking? The M.2 right next to the GPU slot effectively prevents using a water block on a GPU as it will hit the M.2 slot.

Looks decent. Overkill for most, especially at this price.
I remember when the ROG line was affordable. Then they brought in ROG Strix as the affordable replacement. Now even that is out of budget for many.

Board looks nice overall but i cant get over the price and some of the decisions. It is more than what a extreme board use to cost only a few years ago. only 4 sata ports, why 3 addressable rgb ports and not 1 4 pin when they can be daisy chained. Only 2 pcie slots but they can fit 2 internal type c ports and 4 on the back panel, 2 being 40gig... who would use 6 type c ports on a desktop? Why is there a 5g and 2.5g Ethernet port? who needs 2, just put 1 good quality 10g nic and be done with it. Why not change one of the 10g type a ports to 2 or 3 usb 2 ports. less bandwidth and better legacy support with peripherals that don't play nice with usb 3.2? I think the some of the technical choices are a bit questionable.

Instead of the ROG X870E Hero using intel 2.5Gb/Realtek 5Gb ethernet combo, ASUS should've used Marvell 10Gb/Realtek 5Gb combo. If they wanted the Hero to be cheaper, replacing Realtek's 5Gb for their 2.5Gb would also suffice. I don't want to be using intel's buggy NIC's.

If they release X870 without e or B850 for example or be it B870 with good prices then it will be possible, also people are like they are so hurry waiting out the door to get this X870e at any cost, if they waited maybe those prices will drop later, but it sounds it will never change, in future if AMD release 1000 series mobo then people are willing to sacrifice eyes or kidneys for that, i mean gamers fans.

What about Asus ROG Strix X870E or Asus Tuf X780E or even Asus Rro whatever X870 non E? I will buy X870 board only if it goes down to like $200-300 any brand, i don't care to only stick with Asus anyway, in 2011-2012 i built 3 rigs, one with Asus mobo, and one with Gigabyte and one with Asrock, only Asrock mobo damaged but they were all working flawlessly, i even installed Win 10 on them all before and they are working like charm, so Asus isn't my only option anyway, and Crosshair Hero isn't the only mobo available in the world anyway.
