- Hello, I'm NullBlox
I have been push/street skateboarding for well over 10 years.
In this video is will be discussing the Boardnamics M1 Gear Drive.
I was shocked at the results!
So sit back grab a snack and enjoy the ride!

Awesome video , thanks heaps for the insight and the cool way you present it.
lmao the shoe knock out is an esk8 thing forsure
Happens more than I would like to admit. XD
what are those tires Zach?
I rock these as of current (Sept 15 2021) They Grip on street and Dirt and run smoother then traditional Knobby's.

Also, what do you think the real differences are between the helical vs straight gears on the bn gear drive?
I would say sound and I think more teeth are touching in a way than that of straight.
I think they are the same length end to end per tooth but not sure on that.
As for a straight vs heli performance wise, they seem the same.
I think the Heli might be a lilbit smoother in the low end cant see much dif on the top end on.
Hey man love your videos!. You shoot it straight with no bs!. I had a quick question for you. I see you have the mbs pro 95 deck and the Heaero bro deck. Can you give a little breakdown on which you prefer, and the positives and negatives of each?. I have an opportunity to get either one from old stock and would love your opinion for mountainboarding specifically..cheers
The bro is great an so is the MBS. I find the mbs stiffer which I kinda prefer for gaps and such. Yet the bro has more pop and makes Ollie’s and such easier imo. Both feel very good. I guess I like the Bro more but I won’t get rid of my MBS.
I ride trampa and I use there steel helical gear drives. A bit heavy but won't snap like pom gears. But OBD drive is my favorite which I use on my second trampa. Motors sit mch higher and prone to getting hit 🎯
Hey quick question im from cali and want to know the cost of making one of these ? Like do i need a certain skill level or any specific tools to build one ?
Honestly, I believe anyone can make one of these but there are some rules to follow.
Like if the ESC says 8S dont hook up a 12S pack to it. Most things are somewhat common sense after
reading the specs, but it can get a little confusing.
The cost really depends on your needs and well what funds you have access to.
With that said my boards are all around $2,000.00 I needed certain things to allow me to beat
the ever living shit out of my boards. So the cost kinda rose a bit more than I even expect.
Now you can always start with single motors, and smaller battery packs then upgrade over time also.
Tools: You need soldering iron, wire cutters, and some random extras.
Most tools you need you already may have but soldering iron is not common in most homes.
You are more than welcome to DM me on instagram or email me and I can try and get you more info that way.

Can the motors be put in the trampa motor protectors and then put on the gear drive? Or can you not mount them to the gear drives with that on?
Not sure on this. I would assume you could make some holes in the gear drives to allow a motor cap.
Fantastic video! I recently put the bn m1-at gear drive on my Lacroix board. Straight gears. I understand what you mean by the rattle sound. I wonder if we adjust our backlash if that will eliminate some of the rattle?
I don't really notice it when I'm riding, also felt I had to try and find something to complain about.
As for the backlash, I can adjust it but when I grinding it can get kicked back.
This is why I mention the angle, the shortness solve a problem yet creates one also.
the solve is standard mtb wheels hit before motors in most all angles.
Yet this causes a issue for tricks, grinds, stalls, fun, and exploration.
With motor clearance so min, it makes one damage the motors when kicking over the random tree branch or rock etc.
I'm not sure a solution aside from allow for adjustable length to the motor plates themselves.
@@NullBlox Tire brand/model? Your standard 8" (200x50) tires look a bit wider than the average. I see u like using mbs rs2 hubs, which is what I have, but do you have a special added spacer in between to add contact patch tire seat width?
@@jpaulglobal No extra spacer, although I do have a spacer that will widen the RS2 hubs and can post them on my site if needed for any reason.
I think this is the Diamond Tires that Give that look.
I very vouch for the Diamond tires, they grip in most areas and can still get some drifts on pavement if needed.
Personally in the halfpipes its good to be able to powerslide under your own weight, or even do reverts.
So for me certian parks require different tires for max proformance and a little less risk.
With that said I have seen some ride with no bushings, while removing wheels.
All in all diamond tires are a Top Shelf tire for me if you are going 8" and off road trails.
Just rewatching, are you running my little motor hole adapters on this setup 😛
These are the ones from my Janux Mounts. Very similar though but they are more a washer than
a plate that attaches.
Nice review! I live off-grid in mountains been riding a belt drive on logging roads for 8 months now. Think I will wait till the bugs worked out. As a retired machinists I'm wishing I had access to a shop.
First off thanks for the comment. Awesome to know the different lifestyles of riders. I want to convert my home to off grid one day. May never happen but I would very much like to.
@@NullBlox it's easier than you think man!
What's your gear ratio and top speed?
Dude... Im not sure... I know it goes a little above 35mph.
No idea the ratio off hand.
@@NullBlox awesome ride!!
oh dude... the little chatter drives me nuts... it just makes me worry for no reason...
At least its not just me, I suspected it being normal.
Just been a long time fearing Gears, so was not sure what to expect.
Im more than happy with the investment. Even if it breaks tomorrow, I know what I have done to this drive
on and off camera. Its Legit Tuff as Nails, Maybe even Stronger.
It sounds really strange and also worried me at first but I love my M1 drives.
Do you build/sell electric mountain board completes??
I do but I make them on request for now. I dont want to fill up my plate to much.
I have to make sure I have time to spend with my family and loved ones.
So there can be a short delay in the process. Usually not a long wait but I do have a family to help before I can
help others. So get at me and Im sure I can work some time in for you.
Hellz bellz! I recently went full crazy and got an apex predator but I've got some friends in my area (northern Minnesota) who are possibly interested in a half decent boards and won't want to pay 4k for them hahaha just like a functional setups would do. Idk, I just want to get people on boards and feel the awareness of electric mountain boarding I guess and you seem like you've got your stuff on lock.
Make some motor bashcards
Could help but would rather find a drive that allows the angles I need. Hanging them out the back or inner just leads to forces on my axles I don't need when jumping and taking drops. I prefer them to be vertical as possible. then the motor weight is not twisting the axles when taking drops etc.
Its kinda asking for the axles to twist of you have the motors handing out or in.
Как в анекдоте.
-почему сапоги разные?
-А дома тоже разные
Thank you very much this has been the only review I have seen for it and is very very helpful for what I plan to do with my build
Np at all, there is a new adaptor being made for this drive. Some people had issues with the MBS hub adaptor.
I think since I was kinda forced to use small motors, I have not had this issue.
With that said, these are tuff and the maker has already worked out the updated adaptor. :)
@@NullBlox that's great news there seems to be no downsides to those drives. Thanks for making great content 🔥
Such a beast of a board! Bravo sir. Can’t wait to get back in town and get to riding in the cooler weather 🕺
You gotta see the TRAIL!
Sick build dude
Great video. I ride mostly MTB trails and fire roads so gear drives are essential - I wouldn't even attempt these trails with the belt-driven motors currently on the market - so this was of particular interest even without the concerns about grinding (I am past my grind days...no tears). The point you make about the motor placement is key. For me, the next iteration of these boards is going to involve more strategic placement of the enclosures as well as the motors.
I think most drives etc are fine for A to B riding. With that said having bottom mounted cases etc takes from the ART that is
normally on the bottom of a deck as well as prevents many tricks or things you could do to express yourself when riding. IE the art of skateboarding.
In order to progress this into more of a sport and not just a cool way to commute, I think we need to give the people the ability to do
what most snowboards can do. So no bottom boxes, we need to board slide, and we need motor clearance for manuals and grinds.
I think if this is to progress into a freestyle Moto X games type thing. We are going to need boards that can handle it.
Also I think sponsors would be more likely to jump on board with competitions etc if it was not just A to B style group rides.
Group rides etc are fine also but dont really push the sport and industry to make bigger better faster stronger gear for us.
The ones who are wiling to Race, Jump, etc I believe are the ones who can push this into something more than what it currently is.
Well, I started ranting. Thanks for watching and hope you do well in all your current and future projects!
Nice explaining!
Thanks, they seem to be a more than good drive. I have certain expectations and think that clearance is and has been a issue for awhile now.
All in all, I have beat the ever living crap out of them and I don't think anyone would be unhappy with them. Im truly loving them but plan
to learn more tricks and these will hinder that. As for trails and no grinding. You are more than good to go.
Super interesting video man! Enjoyed this bro.
Thanks, honestly still learning how to speak on camera. May sound weird but not used to showing my face. XD
@@NullBlox don’t worry bro I am still learning to speak in person 😂😂😂
I get what you mean though. It feels super unnatural right? Did good though man! 👊🏽
Awesome review! My friend and myself have been riding on a set of the M1 drives for a few months now. The undersides of the drives are so beat up with 8 inch MBS tires. You have a valid point about clearance. We do go offroad a fair amount. They are very tough and do hold up.
At this point I dont worry about the drive as much as bashing my motor cans. With that said I kinda love these so far.
@@NullBlox It just depends on the setup I guess. My motors are high enough so they won't have an issue.
I will mention that my friend broke a small part of the star piece where the hub screws connect to the drive kit. He is jumping it constantly so that's why... We ordered some replacement star pieces which are now stronger and won't break according to BN.
@@NullBlox nice !! Can you run bigger than 8 inch wheels on drive
@@bertrester9138 Yes you can but may need to make sure your deck his clearance.
@@NullBlox I have the new bro deck . I am going run apex airs , board dynamics drives and was wondering hubs and tires
