Lloyd Grant is my friend, & there's nothing more satisfying than to see him blow KH away. Especially when no one believed him about being the 1st Metallica lead guitarist.
Jordan Kay Hugh Tanner was a member of Leather Charm that was formed in June 1981 following the demise of Phantom Lord, a garage band featuring James Hetfield. Hetfield and Tanner were joined by Hetfield's childhood friend and roommate Ron McGovney, and later drummer Jim Mulligan. While Hetfield had played guitar in Phantom Lord, he acted solely as lead vocalist in Leather Charm. Tanner was replaced several months later by guitarist Troy James. When Mulligan left the group in late 1981, Leather Charm disbanded and Hetfield began working with drummer Lars Ulrich on a new project, Metallica. Early the next year, McGovney and guitarist Dave Mustaine completed Metallica's first gigging lineup. So James Hetfield, Ron McGovney, Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine are the first original members of Metallica.
I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but I've liked them since the early (kill em all) days. But, I have known Lloyd was black for a lot of years. Thought more people knew this fact.

What a historic moment the very first Metallica guys...basically come full circle...Metal Militia!!!!🤘
Not enough guitars for my liking.
Jason Maher there are too
Many bassists
gamer guy well if cliff Burton were up there then there would be to many. Cliff counts as like three bassists and 1 guitarists with the skills he had
Go check out “The Big 4” when they all get on stage together to play “Am I Evil”
God dammit this comment section is so friendly compared to the ones of popular youtubers
this makes me happy for some reason. only missing burton
+Mina Zaki and newsted
@@iurymver7875 fuck Newstead (not entirely srs but he was good but not god like Cliff)
Einar Meijer Oh fuck off
@@settratheimperishable4093 why fuck him?he is not as good like cliff but come on he isnt that bad

....is it just me, or did metallica just get infinitely cooler with Lloyd Grant on stage??!!
It's just you, but we all get it...black lives blah blah blah. Now go make some broad a sandwich
@@Rehd66 wtf is wrong with you. No one said anything about race…
@@givenspade Quit cryin, pussy. It was a joke.
@@Rehd66 lol so funny

I'm just happy to see Dave and James playing together and enjoying every moment! Wouldn't ever want megadeth not to happen but....could you imagine metallicas albums if Dave where still a core member today?
4:20 ...and this is why I fucking love Lars. He's been doing this for over 25 years and he's still got energy as if he was still 19 years old.
That's actually something drummers do to keep our legs from cramping up, particularly when double bass is involved.
that was incredible some of those guys like loyd grant ron mcgovney never saw till now that is powerful and much love in there man
You know which channel I think is super underrated? Metal Piano Music. The guy spends weeks composing classic metal songs into classical/relaxing piano pieces and he hardly gets any views. I love his arrangement of Painkiller by Judas Priest. That guy really deserves millions of followers
The truest spirit of Rock n' Roll is FRIENDSHIP!
I’ve always respected Metallica for staying in touch with the people that supported them early on, it’s really been a problem I’ve had with Maiden for their abandonment of past members including Paul Dianno
Loyd Grant nailed it,hes the dude that invented the solo in the first place.everybody else is just copying his shit.
I always get chills when I hear this tune and can’t think of a better first song for these guys
oops,,guitar solo in the wrong key
lol at how Rob ran to hug Ron. hey dont forget about me. i feel like Rob felt like no one cared about him during this song
Nobody did. It was a disservice to Lloyd and Ron, to still have Kirk and Rob up there. lol
Rob is a gentleman. Never met him but whoever did said he is a cool and down to earth guy. For his bad luck he got hired instead of Jason and that brought him a lot of hate for things he hasn’t done. He is talented guy and if he wasn’t he wouldn’t have played with Ozzy.
Yeah, fuck these dudes, Rob can always be the "new guy" but that doesn't mean they can ignore him like that when he is the best bassist on the stage
@@t-bagbagwell1327 man, you're totaly right
4:35 you can see how much that means to James to be playing with Dave.
4:24 just seeing these two stand next to each other and play is something to smile at those who saw this concert I’m jealous
So cool they let these guys have their time to shine, so badass seeing Dave & James playing together.
Lloyd Grant is my friend, & there's nothing more satisfying than to see him blow KH away. Especially when no one believed him about being the 1st Metallica lead guitarist.
They should of just had James, Lars, Dave, and Ron playing. The first and original Metallica.
Hugh tanner came before Dave.
Chris Ramos cliff instead of Ron
Chris Ramos Wasn’t Kirk still in Exodus at the time?
Skeeter Mania
So much talent up there it's hard to know where to look.
Dave's thinking "can't we go any faster??.."
after like 30+ years i've finally seen Mr Grant at work. the guy used to have that "legendary status" in pre-internet years.
scaccu There's a CD by a band he did post Metallica called Phantasm, with Katon from Hirax.
@@hmpz36911 woah never checked that out... thanks
The most epic thing I have seen all day
Nothing awkward about this, if you’ve been in a band or are in one you’ll know it’s about BROTHERHOOD.
Now how many of you thought the guy that Lars was talking about and coming out was black? I know I sure didn't.
yeah, i never saw a picture of lloyd grant before this
I've known since 96 I think. He didn't garner much publicity
I clicked on cuz theres never been a photo before
I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but I've liked them since the early (kill em all) days. But, I have known Lloyd was black for a lot of years. Thought more people knew this fact.
Rob ran across the stage and hugged ron is was so funny
MOsKOn Ron left, he wasn’t kicked out
The fact that they brought Dave back is amazing on how we as people can change
This album was involved in so many good memories the year it was released and many more memories for many years afterwards.
That would be awesome if Mustaine, mcgovney,James, and Ulrich played the whole kill em all album
Metallica should do an album with Lloyd Grant and Dave Mustaine
You know what I would really love... If Lars, James and Kirk would invite Jason back to the studio and re-record "...And Justice For Jason", Justice, the way it was meant to sound. With Fleming Rasmussen producing!
It was released the way James and Lars wanted. It’s been over 30 years…..move on!
Just turn the bass up, why re-record the whole thing lmao?
Dave was popping bubbles there man ! He's just fucking high of pure joy and happiness. It's great to see him have that much fun man
Damn, Lloyd's phrasing and tone is just a beautiful thing to behold.
Had Lloyd grant stayed with Metallica, I think he would be a big influence of black culture, change the landscape a bit.
you have a good point. if he stayed in Metallica ,Metal might be bigger in the African America, or Black culture worldwide, than it is .
@@mikekrause3671 Maybe not in Africa since Metallica hasn’t really played much in the continent.
the origin of black metal......hit the lights!!!
Living colour, body count, hirax, God forbid, a band called death, kings x, animals as leaders, suicidal tendencies, sevendust, stuck mojo, bad brains, wicked wisdom, skunk anansie, dub war, stick, orange 9mm, and shitloads more....oh yeah, there is that one guy who started it all, what was his name? Jimi something???
Gonna follow you bro.
Jimi Hendrix sucked and his dick suckers are the worst groupies in the world. Move on already. The rest of us have.
Wrong, Chuck Berry
Holy shit! They still remember the riffs, after so many years...
Ralph Mayers they probably relearned them
I'd give anything to see them come back to my hometown, Jamaica, Queens!!!
Only chance of that is if they have to transfer...lmao.
"I hope we don't have to transfer in Jamaica man"...hahaha.
They should do a album together
As a V player i approve of the three V guitars on stage at the same time :-)
Stefan Sjöberg kirks is the coolest I had one that looked very similar to that except had trapezoid inlays and the big Gibson logo on the head stock I had to look close thinking is that my old v but it isn’t
23 people have no life til' leather
There were two guys who can play Flying V the most gorgeously in the world. This is so touching!!!!
In 1987 I was around Ron with the band Phantasm katon!! Cerritos Cali!
cool info
Lloyd Grants always been my favourite, they were never the same when he left
lol troll
DarthMuse C'mon man, he pre dates Exodus .Lol
They were never the same when he left? In what way? They hadn't done anything yet so how could they of been different?
Zditty1029 You're just not old school enough.
Norbit CleaverHook
I'm not old school enough? First, you don't know me and don't know nothing about me. And second, I am pretty sure they said he had never even been on stage with them before. Your comment is about as stupid as saying "The Simpsons were never the same after the first episode".
Finally the best guitar player of Metallica, playing again with them: Lloyd Grant
Ok, let's settle down here funboi. He can play but he's no Mustaine
@@Rehd66 He's better!
If this was their lineup today, It would be fuckin' epic
Mustaine, Hetfield, Hammett and Grant on Guitar
Trujillo and McGovney on bass
James on Vocals and Mustaine and Trujillo on backing
and of course Lars on drums would be a fantastic super-group.
If Jason would step in it wouldn't hurt at all either. It's my opinion so please don't come and throw some shitty insults in my face just because you think otherwise.
Supergroup Metallica ftw!
Jason on bass and back ofc!
I am so glad they kicked out Dave. Megadeth is better in my humble opinion!
Michael Mather We got another awesome band, In my own humble opinion Metallica is better, but it's cool to see someone who actually expresses their opinion in a honest way instead of spewing hate around! \m/
Jesper Uhlin Exactly. More people need to be kind over the internet. Just because you can be rude and get away with it, doesn't mean that you should.
That would actually be pretty fucking sweet. Only thing that could make it better is if Cliff were still alive... or if he were to live again in hologram form.
Great to see him all up on stage I would have loved to have been at that show there's a lot of hard feelings from the past glad to see everybody could put that behind and get up on stage it's all about metal!!!!!¡!!!!
HOLY SHIT !
Just noticed Ron McGovney was playing a Washburn Explorer bass!
So rare.
Its really awesome seeing mustaine on stage with them. Im glad after all these years theyve kinda come back together. It would be pretty cool if they did some 3 guitar band thing and made an album Metallideth or some shit lol.
Lloyd GRANT RULES!
Ron looks so unenthusiastic
TheDjpwn3 yea true :/
+Amar Dhumane Probably terrified
+Dr J Reefer That'd be my guess too. I would be.
Shayne O'Neill He's staring at his fingers thinking "don't fuck up... don't fuck up"
+TheDjpwn3 He is scared that Dave will shock him again.
Lloyd Grant used to sit at table 9 at Lewis's Bistro & Delicatessen in San Francisco. Table 9 was usually reserved for Willie Mays.
Still glad to see that Metallica and mustaine can still get along.
4:38 it’s like when your parent split up for a couple of decades and then you see them together and all you think is “yes is this it is it finally happing” but then you remember that there both in new relationships and then your depressed again probably for another couple of decades 😭
I have to say James has certainly aged the best out of all these guys. Damnit he still looks in his thirties.
I think he works out before every show and uses his wifes beautician and nutritionist.
Siko Man I wish we could say the same thing about his voice it's so shot now it's sad
Ha he looks so old as of 2019, but I agree he looked really young here.
@@emokiller907 I think it's the hair that makes him look 83 now
RS Music yeah, he looks like he’s aged about ten years since 2017
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed how much of James’ and Dave’s playing is the same. Watch how they move their left hand. They are the only two guitarists that I have ever seen play that way. Their hands snap from one chord to the next, landing on the chord at the top of the beat. Watch Kirk and Lloyd, they play like any other red blooded american does moving from one chord to the next. I think we have heard great music from metallica and Megadeth, I just wonder what would have happened if James and Dave had continued to write music together
They were bestfriends back in the early days, they probably taught each other how to play
Murray and Smith play a lot alike also. JS
Dope, great to see Lloyd Grant.
Dave, James and Kirk - Flying V combo
