Many years ago when I was in high school one of my friends was incredibly gifted at making mechanical noises and to top it off he could throw his voice. He would watch the clock in the cafeteria and about three minutes before the bell rang he would mimic the bell. Other students would get up and head for class. There were several complaints about the lunch clock but they never figured out what was wrong with it! This video brought back some funny childhood memories!
Hi Elizabeth, this is my first time listening to this A Cappella group, and I loved their performance. The group has some wonderful voices, and they made the most fun and amazing sound effects! This was an awesome performance!! Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
I love MayTree, they're so creative with their shorts. I first came across them about 9 months ago and my daughter really likes them too. I liked how you pointed out the "ng" consonant - this is something that my vocal coach started me on and you're completely right, it helps you find the right placement for vowels. But when I switched to using "ng" through my vocal warm-up (from humming on a straw) I almost immediately was able to hit higher notes going from "ng" to "ah" than I had been able to going from the straw humming to the vowel. Especially in my head voice. It was a really great tool to learn about. I really enjoy your reactions!
Oh wow, wasn't expecting this one, but couldn't be more excited! I first saw MayTree on a Korean acapella show called Vocal Play (not to be confused with Voice Play) which combined a lot of acapella groups and some of Korea’s top beatboxers. It was a lot of fun and also great to see how successfull MayTree has been since.
You know when they are really good, when their Baba Yetu -CIV IV title song cover is appraised by Christopher Tin himself. My favorite song from any game, love live orchestral version of that, Peter Hollens version is also really good but MayTrees one is also good with its simple approach without huge orchestras and choirs, just five talented peeps.

I’ve been subscribed to MayTree for a few months now and they continue to blow me away. Their Plants vs Zombies video is amazing, as is their cover of Baba Yetu. I wouldn’t mind you revisiting them in the future :)
MayTree fan here since 2018. FYI, they upload new content weekly, if you're in PST like I am it's at 5:00 a.m. Fridays. Yours is the best analysis yet of this amazing group. Up until January 2021 they had 62k subs, then they exploded last year and now they're just shy of 5M. Soo and S.I. have been there since the beginning in 2000, Wonjong joined in 2013, Erika in 2016 and Hoony in 2017. They just appeared on _America's Got Talent_ on July 19, 2022, they wrapped up two weeks recording at Abbey Road earlier in July, and some of their work appeared in the massive K-Drama hit _Extraordinary Attorney Woo_ this summer. 🙂
Just found your channel a day or two ago and have been mostly binging your metal reactions, and I was ecstatic to see MayTree on your channel! The amount of different sounds all of them can make with such precision is absolutely mind-blowing, and it's so cool to get to watch you break down some of the mechanics of how they're doing it. Your explanations are so in-depth and easy to digest and understand. I would love to see you go over more of MayTree's stuff if the mood ever takes you (but I'll continue to enjoy your induction into the metal fold regardless!).
Aw, sad that you haven't done any more Maytree. They have a ton of shorts ripe for the picking! They even did a masterful version of Master of Puppets... You'll lose your mind at the guitar solo.
They are so great! I love the human voice, it's amazing. They have a couple of videos where they did film studio sounds, so much fun. The Pixar and THX are my faves.
So nice you found them, so funny reaction :) I discovered that group by the Windows effects, they really sound like Windows... one of my favorites is History of music devices, I suggest you this one for your next Maytree reaction ;)
The most fun thing about your reactions is watching you have fun. You're just adorable! On a side note, I cannot think about vocal folds without thinking about them going. "Wacka--wacka--wacka"! I have never heard them referred to this way before or since!
Your reactions to this group is great, I really hope you do more reactions to Maytree, no matter which one of their videos you click on it will always never stop to amaze you!
Oh I've been hoping you'd do a reaction to Maytree! I only found them a few months ago, and started to recommended them a few times but I guess I was just too shy. 😁 Thank you for this and all of your reactions! I'm a huge fan of all your work!
0:40 so unrelated to the group, squid game is a really good show that plays with a lot of character development and relationships with the characters. If you keep on watching it becomes something cool and shocking. And the same film company made another show call All of us are Dead about zombies so I recommend it too
I always love your reactions as you are so expressive. However, to go completely off topic. Love your pendent. It reminds me of the pin from the Sword of Azrael from the show Lucifer. Thanks again for a great reaction.
Oh wow, really enjoyed this one! Some heavy vocal science, always love learning the subtle details, it really enhances the experience. Your reactions were priceless in this one Elizabeth, and I agree about the combination of brighter classical music with darker content, it can have such an emotional impact. (On a separate note Parasite is an excellent film, I highly recommend it!)
Really interesting, I hadn't heard of Maytree or squid game(I kind of automatically thought Spongebob and Squidward), but I will definitely be listening to this again. Love it as always and another introduction to someone new!! One thing I noticed is that they use everyone on the drum/beatbox line. The bass did it and after her "french horn" solo that gal did a bunch of drumline sounds and then went back to opera for the finale? Just trying to read lips, body language and dont come up with anything other than that.

In the past few days I’ve been checking MayTrees other content. They are great, really hope you revisit them again in the future. (Timing is great. Songs are so short yet spot on) 👍🏼❤️
They did a PHENOMENAL cover of the bugs bunny (yep, you read that right) cartoon where bugs is the conductor tormenting the tenor... It shows of the bass guy's voice perfectly.
This reminds me of a band that blew me & my wife away! They opened for Michael Buble and were called Naturally 7!! They were an amazing group of men completly performing covers of pop music with only their voices!! NO INSTRUMENTS AT ALL!! But if you closed your eyes you thought you were listening to the full band! Vocals, electric guitars, drums, percussion and CV classical instruments. They are very talented. It was amazing to "Watch & Listen" to!! You had to use both senses together to truly appreciate their talent and artistry. They even added some humor! During a couple of the guitar solos the one guy that was the electric guitar was literally being leaned over another member mimicking playing him as a guitar while he sang his solo. Truly original and thoroughly entertaining!! Should check out some Naturally 7 sometime.
Just some suggestions for future analysis - Queensryche "Open" and "Anybody Listening?" / Temple of the Dog "Say Hello To Heaven" (Album version) / The Cult "Painted On My Heart" / Tool "Ticks and Leeches"
This week is a great one, another band I didn't know, and this performance is a great one too. Can't wait for your Fridays one and may I request a review on Nina Hagen or Skunk Anansie?
Hello Elizabeth, I'm from Brazil, I found your channel recently and I'm loving your reviews ! I've watched about eight to 10 videos. I hope you see that comment and I saw that you never reacted to a performance by my favorite band, Led Zeppelin. I really wanted you to react to "Since I've been loving you" at Madison Square Garden in 1973 and Peter Gabriel's song "Don't give up" live feat. Paula Cole, I think you'd like it a lot. I'll be looking forward to it ❤️
4 out of the 5 are science and engineering majors. Soo majored in architecture, Erika was teaching but also music, Wonjong was computer science, SI studied chemistry
I just discovered this channel and saw her reaction to Slaughter to prevail. Did not expect to see that. The real question is: will she react to Infant Annihilator? Oh, make it happen. You have a new subscriber here.
Please do the Avenged sevenfold song “so far away”. It is a different turn from their other songs and has much vocal depth. I think you would find this song very interesting.
@@TheCharismaticVoice May be able to point you in a direction to help. There's a Turkish musician, producer, youtuber much like yourself who actually got ahold of her team and managed a sitdown interview with Sohyang a few years back. His name is Emre Yucelen. He is on youtube. You should have no issues contacting him. He's a huge Sohyang fan and from what he's said he still keeps in touch with her. Reach out to him, he may be able to help. Or you may try getting in touch with Jinjoo Lee, the guitar player from Joe Jonas band DNCE. She is Sohyang's sister in law. She's got all the usual social media platforms. If all that fails, seeing how you have been in the world of opera, you may be familiar with a S Korean opera singer named Sumi Jo. She is good friends with Sohyang. Just a thought. On another note, be seeing Pretty Reckless in May at the Lunatic Luau here in Va Beach. They're really good live. Hope all is well. Stay safe
I am completely unfamiliar with Maytree, but I am all too aware of how awesome Elizabeth's reactions to a capella music are. Going to hard to top that last Voiceplay reaction, but this looks like it could be a contender. I, for one, am glad that Elizabeth is Among Us. Squid Game? Let's get Kraken!
@@joergojschaefer3521 Chuck. His name is Chuck? Okay, fine. Krakino doesn't have suckers on his arms, he has black holes! How about: when Krakino ejects ink, it writes itself into a symphony. Or: Krakino can make a variety of rhythmic, percussive sounds with his beak; he calls it Beak-Boxing.
Who was the first to mix classical music to disturbing content? First example I can think of is Stanley Kubrick using Wendy Carlos' renditions of classical music in A Clockwork Orange. It's become quite a trope since then tho
Well first we have to consider that what we consider disturbing now was completely taboo 100 years ago, and vice versa what was merely disturbing then seems quaint now, so "disturbing" content ramps up over time and changes. Considering this you could probably trace it back to opera or even farther back, but sticking to film with sound I don't know for a fact, but I'm pretty sure Hitchcock did it as far back as the 20s... or 30s. He did work as far back as the 20s, but I forget if it had sound yet. But ya, the practice definitely goes way back.

#acapella ! It feels like it’s been ages ago since the last TCV a Capella song with absolute vocal nerding. Elizabeth needs her fix, and so do I (we)
Just some suggestions for future analysis - Queensryche "Open" and "Anybody Listening?" / Temple of the Dog "Say Hello To Heaven" (Album version) / The Cult "Painted On My Heart" / Tool "Ticks and Leeches"
This week is a great one, another band I didn't know, and this performance is a great one too. Can't wait for your Fridays one and may I request a review on Nina Hagen or Skunk Anansie?
9:18 i didn't expect such weird laugh and giggles 🤣🤣🤣
Hello Elizabeth, I'm from Brazil, I found your channel recently and I'm loving your reviews ! I've watched about eight to 10 videos. I hope you see that comment and I saw that you never reacted to a performance by my favorite band, Led Zeppelin. I really wanted you to react to "Since I've been loving you" at Madison Square Garden in 1973 and Peter Gabriel's song "Don't give up" live feat. Paula Cole, I think you'd like it a lot. I'll be looking forward to it ❤️
Up ❤️
4 out of the 5 are science and engineering majors.
Relating to beatboxing, would love a reaction to Stich - Feels like nothing, for real cool vocal effects
Please do the Avenged sevenfold song “so far away”. It is a different turn from their other songs and has much vocal depth. I think you would find this song very interesting.
I didn’t even know how they did this o.o it’s amazing!! It’s not disturbing though..it’s so good!
Think you'll ever return to Sohyang again?
Yes, I love Sohyang. In fact, we've been trying to figure out how to get in touch with her for an interview. No luck yet!
Stay safe
Their Subway Surfers video remains my favorite.
I also love Acapella music. I've grew up listen to Take 6 two first albums.
Please please please check out their rendition of Kate Bush's "Running up that hill"
When will the Symphony X reaction be out? Cheers!
AHAHAHA! I love it! Squid Game? We got a Krakino!
@@TheCharismaticVoice Krakino is the true undisputed heavyweight champion of The Squid Game! Lol!
@@oglschmitt Yes, no one can avoid Chuck "Eight Arms" Krakino...
@@oglschmitt Chuck "Eight Arms" Krakino would probably be the best drummer in the world ...if he had fingers to hold the sticks in place...🤣
