Try Blue Stahli - Ultranumb accoustic. It is the same kind of thing as here, a metal version sang in a more "delicate " way. Plus, here we have Till with his deep Bariton voice, Brett (Blue Stahli singer) is in the opposite direction of speech! If you don't do a video on it, it's alright. Just hear it :) you will love it
Love Rammstein and Till's voice! I wanted to recommend if you would review Cradle of Fitlh? Bathory Aria or Nymphetamine would be really good choices! Thanks for sharing your passion of music!
rammstein - zeit ...(and all other rammstein videos.. just check first the stories he is talking about.. and why not official video mein herz brennt..with violins..and the story behind..all of them have a story..well..if you want to miss the best live shows of all..) ..i don't go to concerts, since i am a paralized guy, but, if there is one i ..rammstein it would be.. I rediscouvered them, like you, as an adult..i watched "du hast "- live in Paris..video... since then..omg! Do a favour to yourself..get one day of to watch what we missed..but "zeit", is another masterpiece.. by the way, if you watch the live shows, be aware that after one accident in beginning, they are all certified pyrotechnitians..even though, if in one song live show, they don't need it..he was shooting schaum with a giant penis to croud..they are awesome, and Till is the dark poet! Till Lindeman, has also rare solo musics in his name..an genious artist! ..and their videoclips..i don't know if i prefer them, to watch or live shows..
You actually did it! I suggested it myself and I am SO happy that you did this song and this version! I'm stoked! It is the clearest and cleanest you'll ever hear Till's voice.. and what a darkly emotional song! Thank you! And congratulations again on the baby! Being a parent is my favorite thing in life and you're going to love it!
Till Lindemann is an underappreciated master of his art. Rammstein is too often dismissed as a sort of low-brow industrial metal band that people just listen to when at the gym or whatever. But they have some absolutely beautiful music, and it's very much because of Till's amazing songwriting and performance abilities.
Honestly, to achieve the level of success they have had, especially here in the US where the language barrier is probably the biggest obstacle anywhere in the world, I can't help but consider them one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Only a couple albums that mildly disappointed, but still had highlights. Consistently draws huge crowds. Every single member important to their sound. Really hard to not have them near or at the top of the greatest list when you really think about it.
@@SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV The funny thing is, their lyrics are arguably the best part. They spit out some very witty and original poetry from time to time.
Not gonna lie I’ll just throw on a playlist of all their albums just to fall asleep to or for car rides, like a lot and often. I’ve absolutely loved listening to Rammstein since I was like 5 or 6 years old (thankful for older brothers and a dad who listen to all kinds of metal lol). I would like to mention though I reeeeally just like German Metal in general at this point lol. I love Till’s solo band Lindemann, and other bands like Eisbrecher, Megaherz, and dear God OOMPH! is amazing. I like music for the music itself, but these bands in specific, the vocals are just mesmerizing to me.
This is exactly my issue with her review. It is an artsy piece but not as impressive vocally as many things she has less praise for. This is an easier vocal performance to recreate than many songs she reviews.
Normally, in the German language the "R" is not rolled. It is, however, done in song to help the flow of the rhythm and to emphasize on the "R" sound. I do strongly agree though, Till has purrfected the sound.
I know the German language is considered as difficult and harsh but it is also capable to transport enormous intensity and emotion. You might not expect it but Germany has fantastic poets - not only Goethe or Schiller but also Till! He is a poetic storyteller. A real artist.
I agree, I am a metal head but I enjoy opera and classical music so much, it's sort of validating when a professional opera singer appreciates a metal singer O.o Thank you so much for sharing !
Don't forget that many metal singers, especially female, are classically trained. There are many parallels between metal and classical music, including the vocals.
The song "Ohne dich" really Shows Tils raw vocals too. And I would love to see a reaction to "Puppe" because he screams with so much power in this song, it's just beautiful.
Till's voice has gotten phenomenally better as he's gotten older. His voice on Rammstein's first 3 albums is not all there, but he really hits his stride with 2004's "Reise, Reise"
Sehnsucht is still my favourite album but reuse, reise is up there almost on par, a lot of beautiful and beautifully sang songs. Ohne dich is just awesome
I had no idea the opening audio track on that album was the black box recording from JAL123 until very recently when I stumbled upon a video that traced the plane's flight path from the initial incident all the way to the crash. Put a whole new spin on that album... But yes, their writing as a whole made a giant leap with that album. You can almost use Reise, Reise as a B.C. point.
Rammstein is a group of highly talented and cultured musicians. Their lyrics have layers upon layers of subtext left to the listener to interpret. Many people focus on the shock value and controversy surrounding the group but fail to recognize the genius behind the imagery and the music. Till’s solo work is amazing as well and I highly recommend an in depth listen. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
"Mein Herz brennt" refers to the type of burning in the heart caused by hurt and resentment that causes one to seek revenge or inflict pain upon others in some vain attempt to relieve one's own pain. It is the deep hellish burning Inferno of pain in the heart from which one is desperate to escape. It is as if one's being is consumed with the feeling. It is analogous to the German term "Weltschmerz"
I agree, but would say it is a more... outside perspective. Like, we do have a nonmentioned protagonist here, who is suffering from a deep, painful hurt. But the song describes more how the _feeling_ comes to hem, or rather, how it _feels_ to experience it. Lying awake, in tears, in the dead of the night, when the creepy-crawly ghouls of our own demons come slithering out of the dark basement of the soul to haunt us, all the while we are utterly helpless to fight them off in that moment. Fantastic song.
Maybe it's a stretch but given how they play with subverting expectationsl, especially on myths and fairy tale beings, see how in Engel, they play the angels as miserable creatures, so too may it be that they are playing the Sandman as a similar one. He is burning in envy and impotent rage that the kids can rest peacefully and he is left to deal with all the nightmares, his curse to deal with, taking on the demons and injecting the tears onto himself, as in transferring their sadness and disgrace
No mate. Just no. In this song the heart that Till riped out of his chest is literally burning sending out a bright light that gives him the power to "extort the eyes". For the demons, ghosts and black fairies to collect the childrens tears and push them in his veins. In the context of this song the burning heart is not ment metaphorically My heart burns is a highly contextual phrase. The German heart can burn for many a reasons. Anger, Fury, Exitement, Love or just pure Joy. If the heart burns it can mean that you are absolutely filled with energy and passion, ready to do anything.
I find the most interesting part about Till Lindemanns singing is the perfect diction he involves in his lyrics, this probably comes from the fact that his father and himself are also accomplished authors and lyricists.
Indeed, I Iove metal. It's just so powerful and Iive shows are a whole experience, you do not just listen to a metal show, you feel it and experience it. Nothing Iike the energy and people there. My older son and I have met some of the nicest people there. I have no problem if my son goes up front and I sit by myself or stand back farther. I know 99% of the people there got my back. It's just amazing how great metal fans are. I've never once seen a fight up close, or felt unsafe in any way, not even at Slayer shows. One woman at one show just about pushed me over and immediately, 4 men I never met, surrounded me as I told her to watch where she was going. She was like close to 6 ft and I'm not 5ft on my best day. She didn't bother me again. 😅 Then the same guys asked me if I wanted to go for a rise, crowd surfing 🤣 and I said thanks, but I will pass. Haha it was funny. I will go til they plant me. Music, metal and hard rock shows keep me sane.
Yep. I skip maybe over one or two if I’m not in mood for a ballad but even then I just listen because Till and his voice and his lyrics and the guys and their music and their faces and their -
I know it's a bit shallow to say, but I can never get over how much of a presence Till Lindemann is. Such an imposing figure with a deep charismatic yet pained voice
Till Lindemann is my personal spirit of the unsettling. *I LOVE* that SMILE: lips pulled back a little too far, eyebrows just slightly furrowing; it's so incredibly "How should I respond? Do I smile? Smile, smile, I know what a smile - like this, yes?" There's so much awkward tension to it, especially because it's NOT the correct emotional response, he IS right to feel that uncertainty and tension IT'S SO PERFECT
I think it's the smile showing only the lower teeth and not the upper teeth that really does it - it's just so unsettling, like someone explained what a smile is to something that wasn't quite human, and it tried to perform it. It's such a small thing that makes the whole expression seem so alien and wrong.
Direct translation- Now, dear children, pay attention I am the voice from the pillow I brought you something Have ripped it out of my chest With this heart, I have the power Blackmail the eyelids I sing until the new day comes A bright light in the heaven's sky [Chorus] My heart burns [Verse 1] They come to you at night Demons, ghosts and black elves They crawl up from the cellar rows And will take a look under your blanket [Pre-Chorus] Little children listen now I am the voice from the pillow I brought something to you A bright light in the heaven's sky [Chorus] My heart burns My heart burns [Verse 2] They come to you at night And steal your small hot tears They wait till the moon awakes And push them in my cold veins [Pre-Chorus] Little children listen now I am the voice from the pillow I sing 'til the day awakes A bright light in the heaven's sky [Chorus] My heart burns My heart burns My heart burns My heart burns [Verse 3] With this heart I have the power To blackmail the eyelids I sing 'til the day wakes up A bright light in the heaven's sky [Instrumental Bridge] [Chorus] My heart burns My heart burns My heart burns (My heart) My heart burns (My heart burns) (My heart burns)
Thanks for the English lyrics. I pity the poor bastards who attempted to translate Goethe into English, and Shakespeare into German! Of course Till is not on that level, but translation (or maybe sometimes transliteration?), or whatever the hell you wanna call it, is so difficult. I think that nowadays Rammstein lyrics into English get the point across, but can't possibly do the full art. Maybe likely why Till's band "Lindemann" did so much in English. Possibly he had some buddies helping him with that. I certainly would love to be a buddy sitting next to him helping him to be artful with English. I once knew someone who I respected. His website was in 2 versions, Italian and English. It was obvious he did well with English, but vernacular and idioms and some grammar were not right. It didn't take me more than 3 hours, but I copied all his HTML from his English site and sent a corrected form back to him. He was very happy! He had no problem plugging it into his English site. If you really like someone who is having problems with language, help them out if you can do it!
His dialect does not have tongue tip (rolling) r. Till uses it to evoke fachist german aesthetic here and in Rammstein. Hitlers south german/austrian dialect has rolling r and will be forever connect to the Third Reich. In short, yes he overpronounces for effect!
I am a 61 yr,old,Aussie mum, who was introduced to Rammstein when my son was a teenager. As a headbanger back in the day (and still) I loved them straight away. Have some albums in the car and rattle the windows with the volume. Ohne Dich is another gentler song that is beautiful.
One thing I'd like to throw in is "Apocalyptica feat. Nina Hagen - Seemann" This is a cover of a Rammstein song. Now Imagine hearing a woman meeting Till's tone. Who can also hit whistle tones (on other songs). Nina Hagen is very unique and amazing
I don't speak German, nor do I know what the lyrics are beyond what you've said... but I imagine that he's the sandman, putting kids to sleep and then fighting the monsters off. With the scratches and claw marks on him it feels like he's fighting, and the his heart is burning is like he's protective of these children. Adding to the pain in his voice while he's whisper singing the lullaby just gives me the whole Guardian vibe.
This is a fantastic version of a fantastic song. It showcases some of the incredible versatility of Til and the band. From actually being good actors in their videos, stage shows and stage presence, Til is a great lyricist as well.
This is the most touching of all Rammstein songs as a vocal rendition. By far. Whereas probably Deutschland is my most felt cinematic one. Personal taste but I agree with you!
My personal interpretation of the song is that it's about the thoughts that come up when you're lying in bed, unable to sleep, worrying and overthinking things. As if your pillow is putting all of these uncomfortable ideas into your head, going on endlessly until the sun rises again. In that context, Till is not really playing a character here - he is his own subconscious talking to and, with this delivery, essentially threatening himself. Like how children might fear going to bed and being in the dark, he essentially speaks to himself as if he is a child, still scared to put his head down and surrender to whatever thoughts may come up when his conscious mind shuts off for the day
Wow, I'm very impressed by your thoughts! Now I have to take all that and watch the other "full" band version of the song. I have a sneaking suspicion it will match just fine.... To be honest, I'd love to do an interview with Till, even it was limited to just this song. I have a sneaking suspicion he could throw a little more light on this. IF anyone out there has some interview with him somewhere about this particular song, I'd sure love to see it!
@@chuck482 I'd love that too, but I think he just doesn't explain his lyrics, both the vague and the obvious. I think I've only heard them explain the funnier ones like America and Meinland, Mann Gegen Mann. And Richard was making his own interpretation of Seamann in the making. Usually, they explain the videos a lot, but the lyrics... we are left to shoot in the dark with some of them. Which sucks, cause I wanna know what he meant in this song. Or is it just literal?
@@eena9210 Years back (2018?) I got their vid collection on BD. Besides the vids, they had a lot of "making of" clips, pretty good. The REALLY cool thing about the BD is you see about 3 or 4 vids edited differently to promote the notion of an alternate relationship between Till and the rest of the band. It's really worth buying if you're a fan. I don't want to spoil the surprise, so won't say what it is.

I suggest you to listen and react to their new song "ZEIT" that is a masterpiece 👌
Hearing this, I remember that my Grandmother (I live in germany) always told me, that the strange smell that comes out of the basement/cellar, comes from the monsters who live there. He is singing from all the fears I had as a kid (and sometimes I still have). The way he crawls back to this hole at the end... This song throws me back to my childhood fears.
One of the things I really appreciate about this channel is Elizabeth's appreciation for detail. I've learned so much listening to your analyses of the nuances in the songs you cover - even for those I've heard dozens or even hundreds of times. It's also helped introduce me to artists I wouldn't have discovered otherwise. I don't know much about Till Lindemann, but I love his voice, and especially appreciate his theatrical presence. It adds so much to his performances.
It's like when a friend introduces you to a new band or singer and you enjoy it more for some reason. I've heard this song for years but not this piano version. I even went to their concert in Los Angeles last month and it was magnificent, but I just heard this version and I'm thrilled.
The lyrics talk about how he has torn his heart from his chest, with which he makes children's eyelids heavy, and how it brightly burns in the firmament. So perhaps his heart is the moon, and he is the dark or the night sky with all its hidden terrors. Till is a poet and artist, so much more than just the barker of martial vocals he appears to be in much of Rammstein's work.
I watched an interview with him once and he was talking about one of his trips. He referred to his memories made there as jarring preserves to be opened again and enjoyed in the future. He has such an amazing way of thinking and describing things.
I didn't know that Till and Zaz recorded a song together, so I just finished listening it. Thank you for this suggestion. Le jardin des larmes needs to be listened for dozens of times to catch every detail and to get a deep comprehension. So many questions after the first view. I would like to watch the analysis of this song here!
My theory on his amazing way to preform so profoundly is why this band has such world wide success. Even when the listener doesn’t understand the language. He still gets the emotions across with his voice.
I find Till's singing in this to be very operatic and poetic, he's telling a story through his vocals and not just through his vocals, through his movements as well. I could see this fitting well into musical theatre.
In former times there was every day 5 Minutes before 7 a. M. a short TV-spot called "Das Sandmännchen", means The Sandman. In the beginning there was a voice "Liebe Kinder, gebt fein acht, ich habe euch etwas mitgebracht". Everybody in Germany knows these words, so Till Lindemann is playing with this common knowledge.
It is called "unser Sandmännchen" and it is the longest TV Show in the world with over 20,000 Episodes. And it is 7 pm not am (Eselsbrücke: AM = Am Morgen) and it is still aired today. I was born in the 80s and as a child watching Sandmännchen always meant now it is time to go to bed.
Exactly. Rammstein turns this bedtime story for kids into a real nightmare. So, a link for all whose wants to have a look on the origin of Till's song... ua-cam.com/video/FjrdGSOdUhY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=VideoFourSix.
When I see the character Till portrays in the video smile, I always see an incredibly deep pain. Maybe the reason we find it off-putting is because the smile doesn't reach his eyes at all. The disconnect between what the eyes express and smile on his face tells us instinctively that something is very wrong. I don't know if I'm the only one who sees pain in that expression, but it always reminds me of a feeling I had during a particularly deep depression where it almost physically hurt when I tried to smile. It would be really interesting to know what everyone else sees in that expression, in that smile. And thank you Elizabeth, for giving us all a deeper understanding of so many wonderful songs and performances. You give such an fascinating insight into the instrument we're all born with, our voice.
Yeah I definitely see pain behind his expression as well, pain and a deep sadness for what has happened to him as a child. They say the song is about child abuse, and the emotional pain and trauma that comes with it which is often passed on to their own offspring. Mein herz brennt represents his emotional pain as an adult, he is trying to smile but it just comes off as creepy and you can see the pain and sadness behind. He now has turned into a monster himself, like those who abused him as a child.
I have never seen an actor portray even half of this emotion/pain in a smile in any movie. Its so unsettling yet sad. Incredibly beautiful performance and video. If the story about child abuse is accurate i truly felt the pain in my soul. Amazing
I love your excitement! This version of "Mein Herz brennt" ist just a piece of art. So beautiful and yet so creepy. I loved it from the first second I heard it. ❤️
Me standing over here with Rammstein’s whole discography, pondering about which song I wanna throw your way next. I think I suggest their new song “Zeit”.
That would be another fascinating review to watch. It would be unique as well, being the only review where an English speaker actually pronounces the word Zeit in correct German. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm pretty sure Elisabeth will appreciate and enjoy the powerful visuals in the video as well.
Man it's so much fun and so satisfying to watch someone react who really gets all the details and nuances, to a degree that I as a fan don't even do.. love it.
I've always found this version to be the most visually and vocally mesmerising. His soothing, almost reasonable tone to begin with seems at odds with his frightening appearance. Every word is enunciated so clearly to ensure that his message is received and understood. This whole picture, however dark and graphic, is maintained until that first rictus smile that makes the hairs on the back of your neck rise up. He's creating anxiety in the children he's addressing with his warning of the demons and black fairies that will visit them in their nightmares and he does so as he relies upon their warm tears to survive. He lives as a result of their fears, in some ways like Pennywise in It. The price he pays though is that the children's anxiety causes his heart to burn and he becomes angry and resentful . Added to this is of course the approach of the dawn, he can no longer ply his trade however masochistic it may be. After the second smile, which is slightly more faltering than the first, his eyes become dead and he ultimately descends to the place from whence he came. His voice and facial expression become more desperate and almost pleading but nothing can deter the daylight and his temporary demise. It really is a mesmerising performance from Till. His vocal abilities are clear, he can't hide behind guitar riffs or drums etc., he only has the piano so there is no hiding place (as if he needed one!!). Love your reaction, such a joy to see such excitement and enthusiasm and to hear the technical aspects of the way that he sings this wonderful version of this brilliant song.
What a great match! There is Till, investing so much in details, each tone, each eye contact, each gesture... And then Elizabeth, immediately picking up each of those details, understanding them despite the German language, truely enjoying them and interpreting them.... loving it!

Elizabeth must know at least a little German, maybe a lot more :-) I love her pronunciation, she definitely has some German experience.
@@geoffrey6000 but if you want a provocative cover to express your art (something that rammstein loves xd) its a good option, and the album's name is mutter, so it makes sense.
Ever since "Deutschland" I waited for this. Loved your reaction, Till's highlighted voice in this song is just wonderful and, as you pointed out......lovely piano!
I don't think I've ever heard a vocalist that's able to go deep/low, and yet be feather soft at the same time in the same vocalization. That's the only way I can describe it. Those qualities are antithetical to each other so it's amazing how he pulls it off.
Let's not forget Flakes piano playing is so top notch that he shouldn't be dismissed. We all gree Till is beyond fantastic at giving even the toughest guys the creepers, Flake gives a good punch in this version too. Brilliant analysis of my favorite R+ song. The original version of this is also very good Elisabeth don't miss out on it!
Flake is amazing i agree with you on that, However in this studio version of this song it is actually they German composer Sven Halbig playing it.. Christian does how ever play it live :) And for the Entire album of Klavier it is the German pianist Clemens Poetzsch playing, Why its not doctor keys playing it on the album i have no idea xD
Sad to mention but this song has no Flake's piano playing. This video specifically was played by Sven Helbig BUT Doctor Lorenz does play it in Live adaptations
Hands down..best, honest and sincere reaction I've seen to this song. I also love the fact that your an voice expert and coach. I read that for 2 years he took singing lessons from an opera singer where he "Had to sing, holding a chair over my head-to work with the diaphragm or, for example, when singing i had to do push-ups". He also spent a year at a monastery.
How he slowly increases the pitch while he's "speaking" gives me shivers. I've been doing this computer assisted back when I produced music, but he's just doing it with his voice alone. Freaking awesome
Because of an old Russian classical book I have different headcanon about this song. Legend of Danko and how he head his people though eternal darkness and when people despaired he ripped his heard out of his chest and it started burning and lead by his burning heart he held in his hand his people had left the horrors of the dark, but when they were out, no one noticed how the heart had burned out and Danko died.
I don't think I've ever seen you get so touched by a song as with this one. Till's interpretation does chill one to the bone. He really shows an alternate view for this song. I'd love to see him do interpretations of other songs, he's an amazing artist, both lyrically, and in interpretation. And the piano... hoof. It makes me feel terror and love at the same time, which is awesome.
I am from the Netherlands and lived 10 years in Germany so I speak the German language as my second language....I totally understand Till his art. Rammstein is art at top level. Even if you don't like his voice and the edges he seeks in his songs....But there is no band in the world who makes music like they do! By the way what a nice person are you!
This is a Amazing Version of this Song. Very emotional. Rammstein Lyrics have in some Songs more than one meanings in it. It`s nice to see you react and analyse this song. Very well done!
I can't decide which version of the song I like more, but I'm absolutely sure of one thing: with this smile, Till can make the Joker run away screaming!
Zeit is one of my favourite songs by Rammstein, it is incredibly complex and it made my husband and I both cry the first time we heard it. Though neither of us speak German, we understood the meaning.
I adore how enthusiastic you are about different styles of music and seem to genuinely find entertainment in their very different shades and colours. Also noticed how much care you put into pronunciation, and I definitely appreciate that bit of extra effort. Thank you.
Till Lindemann has a very special voice. It may be that the group is a bit controversial in Germany, much because of Till, and I don’t keep track of exactly why and I think it’s mostly a misconception. But as a Swede living in Sweden, I do listen to Rammstein quite a lot, their music is just incredible both when it comes to melody and instrumentals, and voice of course. Seriously considering picking up German again and try to learn some more. I took German for a while at school little over 20 years ago and have sadly forgotten most of it, but Rammstein makes me want to pick it up again so I can listen to the lyrics more too and understand them
Fun bit of trivia: The cuts you see on his chest and arms are not fake. He did to himself because he wanted a more real vibe to the video. In some of Till's side-project music videos you can clearly see the scars on his arms from such. It's no secret that Till likes pain; band members have said this on interview), so it doesn't surprise me that he did that for this. Strangely enough though, it's things like this that make me love them so much. They do everything with such precision and passion, like a well-oiled machine, with 100 percent every time, creative, creepy, weird, kickass riffs, handsome guys, INCREDIBLE live shows and pyros, catchy tunes, giving back so much to their fans and literally building an entire stage for every show so as to support the lighting, mood and pyro.. Their sense of humour as well as addressing serious issues or telling a dark story, is awesome. Music videos like Dicke Titten or Zick Zack showcase an example. No other band comes close when it comes to their live shows, which are INCREDIBLE. I saw Iron Maiden recently, yeah they were fantastic but seeing Bruce with a tiny flamethrower giving random teeny blasts that were like a foot long or so, and having seeing Rammstein live with their INSANE but JAW-DROPPING pyrotechnics. Anyway, In Rosenrot music video Rammstein really do whip themselves as shown in the video and behind the scenes documentary about the videoshoot. This video for Mein Herz Brennt remains a beautiful video though, one of my favourite songs of theirs. I would highly recommend checking out EVERY video they've done. A MUST-SEE band live!
If you want to hear something from till, which is outside of his „normal“ vocal range: I suggest to look into „Ich tu dir weh“, live from the madison square garden. Such a beautiful chorus with a mixture of Baritone and very clean singing :) And that melody in the chorus 🥰
Sadly I've got the feeling that a lot of the clean sining vocal stuff is playback in their live performances. You can't directly see it in the madison square garden video (the video editing shows him just in the verses from close up for longer periods of time - in the chorus and the middle section the other band members suddenly get more coverage and Till is just shown from far away or in close ups that are cutaway before the word ends - and the ending is the thing where you can identify playback the easiest...). There is a Rock am Ring performance where it is a lot more apparent. I don't want to say I'm 100% sure, but it's a bit suspicious, I think.
@@MeyerzumMischen Unfortunately you're right with the camera angles etc. But it's one of the best sounding live performances of the song and the whole song except the scene on the plateau is live. You can hear it clearly! And you can truely identify his Voice technics etc. which I think is important
@@MeyerzumMischen So, I've been at their show in Prague, about a month ago, and I am positive that it was all live. He slightly changed some vocalisations, quite often parts of the lyrics, which means that the 'playback' would have to be timed very, very precise. Zeit, for instance, or Adieu, had change of lyrics, in Mein Herz Brennt he had gone really of "script" in a line (which was fun). This was my live experience, maybe they did in some past performance, I don't know, but they don't need a playback to perform, so I rather doubt they would do that . :)
I was honored to see RAMMSTEIN just 3 weeks ago and was in shock! I never thought I would see another band that could top most of the hundreds of live shows I've experienced in my life. We won't talk about the stage alone that took 400 people 6 days to build! Or the 365 gallons of fuel for one night of their pyrotechnics! I saw some of the most talented musicians/ entertainers I've experienced in a while. They have the stage theatrics like Alice Cooper (Welcome To My Nightmare was Till's first album) but taken to a whole new level! The stage emotion of Pink Floyd The Wall but to a whole new level! And that is saying a lot! Not to mention the opening act classical pianists Duo Jatekok played so beautifully they brought a tear to my eye. What an amazing show I will ever forget!
Saw them in September at Soldier Field in Chicago. It was a mind blowing experience. Over 600 pyrotechnic effects, piano backgrounds, Engel acapella, and of course over the top comedic parts. Hearing 60,000 people sing Du Haust as the band went silent will stick in my mind forever.
I caught them in San Antonio, and have already committed myself to going to any show that that they do within a thousand miles of where ever I am when/if they tour the states again. Absolutely amazing show, and everything that I hoped for it to be.

Some unknown and undocumented thing: Till learned a lot in the Opera in his youth when east Germany was still on it's own. And it shows he learned to play with his voice.
As a german i have to say that even germans don't pronounce the "R" so much as Till Lindemann does in his songs. And also in nearly all german bands his voice is pretty unique (except Stahlzeit, which is a Rammstein tribute band) Also a very good song is: "Lindemann -- Home Sweet Home" (Live in Moscow) Lindemann is combination of Rammstein and Hypocrisy which are both really really good bands... :)
Sorry, but "Lindemann" is only Till and of course Peter. Richard Z. Kruspe has Emigrate. And the others are doing other things, while not working within the band.
Yeah, rolling the R may be a thing in a smaller german dialect i think, but to me its always been much more prevalent in dutch and swedish dialects. (just listen to sabatons swedish songs)
Oh my gosh! Ive always been a Rammstein fan, as a swede I learned german in school, so for a decade in my teens I was totally obsessed. But that got lost. Im 31 now. But when I watch you all thoose feelings came back again. I just got a reminder why I think they, and especially Till Lindemann is SO awesome. Thank you!
I was already a fan of Rammstein, but the passion you convey just listening to this profoundly elevates my own appreciation of the band, especially the tremendous talent of Till Lindemann. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking me on this journey with you!
I love your reactions hearing this for the first time! As a Rammstein fan seeing people from outside Germany and professionals like you be amazed by Till‘s vocals brings me so much joy!
Check out MotionIess In White, a PA (US) band not far from where I Iive, they do a decent cover of Du Hast that's a personal favorite. They aIso cover Danzig's Mother. Very talented guys.
This may be several months late, but I think the phrase you're looking for in regard to the intro structure is 'bardic story telling'. It is a form of storytelling that straddles the line between speech and singing, where the performer uses that contrast to further demonstrate setting and emotion of the story.
It is called "Sprechgesang" in German. Zarah Leander is an example for this. A modern explanation could be "Rap without the craving for rhymes". Or "focus on expression more than on the note (without producing off-notes (if "off-notes" fit in any way to what I want to say))".
What I think makes Tills singing style so unique is how effortlessly he can start out with a powerful energy and let it feather out at the end of the line. That's basically a signature for Rammstein in my opinion.
On the subject of strong-voiced Germans, I am certain you'd love Nina Hagen! She did a wonderful cover of rammstein's seeman, but her originals such as naturträne are also very impressive!
Till will NEVER stop pushing the limits until the day he dies..."ain't it cool?" Here's Rammstein's very latest: "Angst" [Official Video Link: ua-cam.com/video/ONj9cvHCado/v-deo.html]. I look forward to your take on this...you are my favorite reactor-NO hype-just honest emotion and 'on point' analysis every time. I never had a daughter, but if I'd ever gotten such an option of choosing, you'd be the primary candidate.
Thank you for giving Rammstein another listen!!! it's so so nice seeing you give such a deep analysis, Till is my absolute favorite singer!! You talk about being into his lyrics, almost all of his songs have many different layers of interpretation. I recommend you listen to one of their new songs, "Zeit". It's absolutely beautiful.
OMG I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS I CAN"T EVEN! This is one of my favorite performances of all time. Till's voice is beautiful and the editing on the video itself - the way they utilized slow motion at specific points - though simple, is really moving. Rammstein's new album is out on Fri btw. 4/29.
I've been to a concert some years ago and they really go all in on EVERYTHING. Great vocals, amazing musicians, insane visuals, the whole thing! I've seen many recs for Ohne Dich in the comments, and they are right. I get chills every time (in a good way)
The theatrical declamation style that Till uses is a glorious inducer of goosebumps ...he´s a trickster genius and his lyrics always hit right between the eyes . I very much adore Rammstein, they are glorious .
When I was a teenager, I think the first Rammstein album I bought was Mutter. The original version of this song is on that album and I had not heard this 2015 version of it. I enjoy it so much. It is an inherently creepy concept as a song and it works so well with simply a piano and Till Lindemann staring at you, it gives it the intimacy there is between a child and their nighttime monsters. I know the original version probably had to fit the big sound of the album but I feel it robs this intimacy from the lyrics. Loved this video so much!
The way Till pointed the letter t in „brennt“ and „acht“ reminds me of the sharp pointed k‘s in „Fear of the dark“ by Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson. Both are fantastic storyteller.
They are majestic, true masters of visual/musical expression, I've been following them since 1998, and I just can't get them out of my head, and I don't want to either, just the wonderful movies we see in each of their music videos, it's a double blessing!!
Indeed, I Iove metal. It's a whole lot more intense, talented, love the lyrics that are not sugar coated and mostly true. My son & I see a few shows every summer. I love metal and will go see shows until they plant me. 💯✊️
You're really broadly read... I'm deeply impressed. All what you were saying about that tv show from Germany ('Das Sandmännchen') and as well your German pronounciation was so accurate... even your translations- how uplifting your mind, sense for language and knowledge are... chapeau... hugs from Stuttgart, Germany
I think I've rewatched this reaction about once a month since it came out. More than any other reaction of hers, I think this most perfectly marries Elizabeth's interesting, insightful, educational analysis of the art and science of singing, with her almost child-like sense of wonder and delight at discovery. I imagine some sort of imaging device monitoring my brain when I watch music videos, or reactions to music videos, where one hemisphere of my brain lights up more often and more intensely than the other; but I think with this reaction, they would both just be glowing equally brightly. I have only very rarely in my life felt anything akin to what it looks like Elizabeth feels whenever she is exposed to new music that she loves. I'm so glad that she shares that with us through her videos, so I can at least experience it vicariously.
Till is an incredible storyteller. Not the most technical singer, I think, but mind-blowing in his acting, showmanship and lyricism. And the heavy metal really complements his deep, but emotive voice.
Puppe by Rammstein remains one of the most awe-inspiring and powerful vocal performances I've ever heard. I cannot do it justice with words, and explaining what happens and what it's representing would just spoil it. I have never heard anything like it. I appreciate that it's not likely to be a reaction given recent events, but I highly recommend it as an experience.
We just released merchandise! Check out the full line-up here: thecharismaticmerch.com
@@adrienb.8390 YES! Neat stuff.
Till Lindemann is an underappreciated master of his art. Rammstein is too often dismissed as a sort of low-brow industrial metal band that people just listen to when at the gym or whatever. But they have some absolutely beautiful music, and it's very much because of Till's amazing songwriting and performance abilities.
it doesnt help when he makes lowbrow songs on occasion. their new album has a song which translates to 'big tits'
@@SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV
The funny thing is, their lyrics are arguably the best part. They spit out some very witty and original poetry from time to time.
Rammstein is an art project.
Another great showcase for Till is "Ohne Dich" - highly recommend that one.
yes, that one nearly made me cry the first time I heard it
Ohne dich ist one of my favorites
I always cry, the words. 😢
Definitely!!! This is What i came here to comment!!

can we pls appreciate how lovely and passionate she is talking about it?
It's why I come back and watch her a lot. It's like I'm showing a video to a friend and they actually dig it.
As a German I just love how quickly you understand and feel the dark poetry in this really artistic performance 🎭
i drink to that
This is exactly my issue with her review. It is an artsy piece but not as impressive vocally as many things she has less praise for. This is an easier vocal performance to recreate than many songs she reviews.
So true!
@@jays100 Well that's your opinion, clearly she thinks it's impressive vocally.
@@kadirbeneathmomoteh854 Yes, they are transporting emotions.
Till's "R" is like a cat purring. So hypnotising, I love it.
It basically is a cat purr sound, the rolled r
Only English language doesn’t have that sound
Normally, in the German language the "R" is not rolled. It is, however, done in song to help the flow of the rhythm and to emphasize on the "R" sound. I do strongly agree though, Till has purrfected the sound.
@@drkilded I was told it’s a regional dialect thing?
@GeminiStargazer it might be, like the "CH" sound. I do know that it is used a lot more in song though.
I know the German language is considered as difficult and harsh but it is also capable to transport enormous intensity and emotion. You might not expect it but Germany has fantastic poets - not only Goethe or Schiller but also Till! He is a poetic storyteller. A real artist.
He has, also, released his own poetry. "Im Stillen Nachten" ist eins und anderes ist "100 Gedicht".
I mean Germany has been known as the land of poets and thinkers for hundreds of years. It's not 'that' surprising :)
@@MrProthall I was not sure this is the perception also outside Germany, but I agree.
But it's harshness is what makes German the perfect language for Metal music...Rammstein being the ultimate example!
German is difficult, but harsh? No. It is a stereotype. Normally spoken German is magnificent, yelling sounds bad in any language.
It is somehow so satisfying to see an opera singer mesmerized by a metal singer! More rammstein please!
I am a heavy metal guy and really appreciate the classical style. However upon watching her many videos I feel like it is lacking something!

Till's voice has gotten phenomenally better as he's gotten older. His voice on Rammstein's first 3 albums is not all there, but he really hits his stride with 2004's "Reise, Reise"
Ohne Dich is my favorite.
Reise, Reise is my favorite Rammstein album no doubt
Sehnsucht is still my favourite album but reuse, reise is up there almost on par, a lot of beautiful and beautifully sang songs. Ohne dich is just awesome
Jeez.... Reise, Reise is 2004? I feel old.
Fantastic song.
in the second verse he sings about how demons and black fairy push the children's tears into his cold veins.
@@ramiroj.2381 ohhh, i really like that interpretation. fits really well, and well with the general songs of Rammstein
No mate. Just no.
In this song the heart that Till riped out of his chest is literally burning sending out a bright light that gives him the power to "extort the eyes".
For the demons, ghosts and black fairies to collect the childrens tears and push them in his veins.
In the context of this song the burning heart is not ment metaphorically
My heart burns is a highly contextual phrase.
And Till's mother is a poet and at once point poet lauriet in East Germany. Till has said he hated the boys only boarding school he was in.
There is a reason why metal is said to be the sibling of classical music

Rammstein is one of the very few bands in my opinion that has no bad songs. Every single song is a masterpiece in its own way.
I concur!
What about "Feuer und Wasser"?
Yep. I skip maybe over one or two if I’m not in mood for a ballad but even then I just listen because Till and his voice and his lyrics and the guys and their music and their faces and their -
I actually hate Mein Teil. I know that is blasphemy, but it is true.
@@Herr_Damit One of their better songs.
I know it's a bit shallow to say, but I can never get over how much of a presence Till Lindemann is. Such an imposing figure with a deep charismatic yet pained voice
@Punished Chris he used to be a professional swimmer for east Germany I think
He's literally like 5'5
Actually, Till is 6ft even.
And yet he has terrible stage fright.
@Punished Chris he's 1,84 m so a little over 6 food, but that doesn't matter
Yeah, it's the teeth as well.

This was such a soothing song. Till and German language fit his song so so so well. Also totally different from what I was expecting. 10/10
Like an aria from a very dark opera... A bit like an E.T.A Hoffmann story...
But his pronounciation is overacted.
@@johanneskasper4775 Yea, that's the idea.
His dialect does not have tongue tip (rolling) r. Till uses it to evoke fachist german aesthetic here and in Rammstein. Hitlers south german/austrian dialect has rolling r and will be forever connect to the Third Reich.
In short, yes he overpronounces for effect!
Soothing… but also lyrically haunting.

With the scratches and claw marks on him it feels like he's fighting, and the his heart is burning is like he's protective of these children.
Like how children might fear going to bed and being in the dark, he essentially speaks to himself as if he is a child, still scared to put his head down and surrender to whatever thoughts may come up when his conscious mind shuts off for the day
Top!
Wow, I'm very impressed by your thoughts! Now I have to take all that and watch the other "full" band version of the song. I have a sneaking suspicion it will match just fine....

She helps me to find more to enjoy in the music I listen to, and even music I don't normally listen to.

Saw them live in San Antonio, amazing show and they were extremely thankful to the crowd. Piano version of Engel was a tear jerking for sure!
For Till's vocals in a bit different context, check out his duet w Zaz, Le jardin des larmes. It's a beauty of a song.
Didn't know they collaborated, really unexpected pairing.
I'll second that, I was a fan of both of them, but never imagined they could blend their voices in such a fashion, great song as a result!
it´s amazing
the Video too
Wonderful , thank you!
He did theater he's also an actor
Sandmännchen kommt!
Enter sandman..
Bet, Kindlein, bet!
Morgen kommt der Schwed!
Morgen kommt der Oxenstiern,
Der wird euch Kinder beten lehrn.
Exactly. Rammstein turns this bedtime story for kids into a real nightmare. So, a link for all whose wants to have a look on the origin of Till's song...

Amazing
Bro it was literally the first thing I noticed aswell. Good luck to you my friend. I know how this feels.
I love your excitement!
This version of "Mein Herz brennt" ist just a piece of art. So beautiful and yet so creepy. I loved it from the first second I heard it. ❤️
I have no doubt that Till's time as an Olympic swimmer aided in his extraordinary breath control
Me standing over here with Rammstein’s whole discography, pondering about which song I wanna throw your way next. I think I suggest their new song “Zeit”.
In a more "ballad" register : Ohne Dich ? 😁
@@armakryss Ohne Dich was my favourite Rammstein song all the time as Mutter album was born...But then...they did Zeit...And now i'm wavering)
That would be another fascinating review to watch. It would be unique as well, being the only review where an English speaker actually pronounces the word Zeit in correct German. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm pretty sure Elisabeth will appreciate and enjoy the powerful visuals in the video as well.
Both, "Zeit" and "Ohne Dich" would be amazing. "Mutter" would also be an interesting choice imo.
feuer und wasser, or klavier
She has to listen to „Puppe“. Tills singing is sooo hounting in this Song.
studio version first though, do you think?
Hell yes someone else for that song
Puppe is one of my favourites omg!
Nooooooo
@@MissSpooky69 the lyrics are so fucking crazy
What a great match! There is Till, investing so much in details, each tone, each eye contact, each gesture... And then Elizabeth, immediately picking up each of those details, understanding them despite the German language, truely enjoying them and interpreting them.... loving it!
Elizabeth must know at least a little German, maybe a lot more :-) I love her pronunciation, she definitely has some German experience.
I would really recommend the song "Mutter" absolutely breathtaking vocals
I read somewhere that that album caused a lot of tension with band.
@@iamadamsusername true, people in germany tried to ban the album cover
@@valenb2839 yeah, picture of a dead fetus as a cover ain't the greatest idea.
@@geoffrey6000 but if you want a provocative cover to express your art (something that rammstein loves xd) its a good option, and the album's name is mutter, so it makes sense.
@@valenb2839 yes, i get that it makes sense. Still was a little disturbing finding out...
Christian does how ever play it live :)
And for the Entire album of Klavier it is the German pianist Clemens Poetzsch playing, Why its not doctor keys playing it on the album i have no idea xD
Sad to mention but this song has no Flake's piano playing. This video specifically was played by Sven Helbig BUT Doctor Lorenz does play it in Live adaptations
Rammstein is art. Raw, dark, lugubrious, the most meaningful form of art.
Also an olympic level swimmer in his youth. Only missed out going for GDR by a knee injury. He has amazing voice power and range
How he slowly increases the pitch while he's "speaking" gives me shivers. I've been doing this computer assisted back when I produced music, but he's just doing it with his voice alone. Freaking awesome
You captured this perfectly together. Früling in Paris is also a gem.
Yeah I was going to suggest the same. Probably my favourite rammstein song.
@Tagedieb a boo boo
The live version if it is great
Frühling in Paris and Stirb Nicht vor Mir are so good
absolutely
Though neither of us speak German, we understood the meaning.
so nice 🥲
👍🏻👍🏻 german words are very haptic, expressive
I took German for a while at school little over 20 years ago and have sadly forgotten most of it, but Rammstein makes me want to pick it up again so I can listen to the lyrics more too and understand them
Rosen Rot's duet really gives you an idea of just how good Till's vocals are, not just the low tones he's renowned for
Correct myself: Rosen Rot album, Wo Bist Du song
Or
Stirb Nicht vor mir ft. Sharleen Spiteri is the duet
Well said 👌👌
That explains his video for Ach So Gern, where he just gets the crap kicked out of him in a single uncut shot for 4 straight minutes.
No, he did not do it to himself, its a bullshit rumor spread by fans.
yeah no
If you want to hear something from till, which is outside of his „normal“ vocal range: I suggest to look into „Ich tu dir weh“, live from the madison square garden.
I was at this show and it was SPECTACTULAR
@@pyroclasm2423 I don't doubt it and I don't intend to take away from it.
Rammstein is more than a band to me. Pure artistry. I feel every emotion listening to their music and watching videos or live performances.
@@mjohnson1333 I know exactly what you mean. Consider visiting Europe while a Rammstein tour is happening there. To be surrounded by (very friendly) German people and hearing them sing every Rammstein song by heart is priceless!

"Gallons of fuel"? You need to learn more about R+ Pyro!
Some unknown and undocumented thing: Till learned a lot in the Opera in his youth when east Germany was still on it's own. And it shows he learned to play with his voice.
Utterly phenomenal. This stripped down version makes it even creepier than the original, and yet somehow more fragile. I can't get enough of it.
I'm learning German from Till's perfect diction and pronunciation. He's the reason I'm in love in this language 🥰
I've never heard this version of this song, but it's phenomenal how Till truly captures and conveys the spirit of a "bard" in the beginning.
I really like Till's voice in Amour and Feuer und Wasser. Also Diamant if you want to hear something newer from Rammstein. Great analysis Elizabeth!
As a german i have to say that even germans don't pronounce the "R" so much as Till Lindemann does in his songs. And also in nearly all german bands his voice is pretty unique (except Stahlzeit, which is a Rammstein tribute band)
Also a very good song is: "Lindemann -- Home Sweet Home" (Live in Moscow)
Lindemann is combination of Rammstein and Hypocrisy which are both really really good bands...
@@meinnase Several dialects still roll the r, especially southern ones.
Thank you!
Honestly i am in love with this performance from the vocals to the piano and even Till's acting through out the video. Its just amazing all around.
Till is amazing. I highly recommend " wo Bist Du " and " Ohne Dich " . I think you will enjoy them.

OMG I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS I CAN"T EVEN! This is one of my favorite performances of all time. Till's voice is beautiful and the editing on the video itself - the way they utilized slow motion at specific points - though simple, is really moving.

Rammstein have been my favorite band for over 17 years. Till is a true poet and amazing singer.
Another great showcase for Till is "angst" - highly recommend that one.
I wholeheartedly agree!
Omg yes, when he screams Angst near the end of the song it’s so powerful.
Isn’t it amazing that so many people at metal bands are truly amazing singers and thats why we love them 😊
Indeed, I Iove metal.
Rammstein fan since I was young, never heard this. Absolutely amazing, thank you for doing this, and thank you to the requestors.
‘Seemann’ is also just an absolutely beautiful display of Till’s voice 💖
Till is an incredible storyteller. Not the most technical singer, I think, but mind-blowing in his acting, showmanship and lyricism. And the heavy metal really complements his deep, but emotive voice.
Puppe by Rammstein remains one of the most awe-inspiring and powerful vocal performances I've ever heard. I cannot do it justice with words, and explaining what happens and what it's representing would just spoil it. I have never heard anything like it. I appreciate that it's not likely to be a reaction given recent events, but I highly recommend it as an experience.
