If you used 4.7 microfarad capacitors for the tweeters you have the crossover frequency at about 8000 Hz. That's quite high. You should also use bipolar caps.

@xluumu what caps would you recommend then? Im always happy to learn! If its the UF that changes the crossover frequency then i may be able to use my scope to demonstrate which uf caps do what 😊
@@PacmanBasshead I’m hardly qualified to give recommendations, but with the scope, a frequency generator, a selection of caps and a ballast resistor or a speaker it should be easy to test. I’m sure you can make an interesting video of it.

A few months ago I bought a aiyima speakers in aliex , I was trying to make my own "high end speaker" but I lost the energy to do it, now meanwhile I was watching your videos(they magically appear in my principal page) I got that second breath to do it. Thanks to you I got a lot of info from your videos like the capacitor (filter) in the tweeter and the wave lenght . I´m from Chile btw I hope you are doing well and and thanks.

I've been obssesed with your video's recently as my ADHD + (minor) sound engineering skills have led to me to build party speaker boxes just like this with the help of my neighbour (who is a carpenter!)
My first build started off when my neighbour cleared his shed out and handed me a MASSIVE car sub he once had installed in his car once apon a time, which with the fact that i had previously bought a £50 party speaker for my nephews birthday party sent me through sleepless nights and moments of online shopping at midnight!
Anyway with some testing / ripping apart / re boxing / ripping apart / reboxing... I currently have 2 builds,
1. 1 x WANGCL 2 x 160W + 220W 2.1 Channel Amplifier (15 - 36v) + 1 x 12" 200w Subwoofer + 2 x JVC 300W Peak/30W RMS Power speakers in a rather large / long box
2. 1 x WANGCL 2 x 50w + 100w 2.1 Channel Amplifier (12 - 24v) + 1 x 5" 100w Subwoofer + 2 x JVC 300W Peak/30W RMS Power speakers in a much more portable box
I am planning a 3rd design where I combine the two - I have sourced a nice 200w 5.25" Subwoofer.
With the 2nd and potentialy 3rd design I'm having a little trouble with satisfying my bass wants, I wonder if I would need to put together a slightly more complex scoop (NOTE - ALL DESIGNS HAVE A BOXED OFF ENCLOSURE + A 'LIP' TO TRY AND EXTEND THE AIRFLOW TO THE CUTOUT AT FRONT) - Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ayima has been around for ages on Amazon. Good brand
Aiyima had actually been on the rise in audio. They have some really affordable, nice home audio amps. Cheap Audio guy highlights them often
32V will be a good input for that amp and help push the speakers better
The amp has a max input of 24v sadly!
Aiyima is actually a pretty well respected chifi brand. They make some good stuff for the money, and they make some pretty nice amps, too like the AO7 and T9.
Chifi is my new favourite word, thankyou. Yeah i rate it to be honest, im trying to talk to them about ordering a bunch of speakers but they only seem to sell amps on their website
Ayima is a pretty good brand. I'm listening to this video with an Ayima DAC that I've had for about 3 years and I'm really happy with it.
Im tempted to email them and see if they'll send me stuff to review, gotta be worth a shot 😆

That would make a bloody marvellous site radio in a tower box!
You could get 12mm thick MDF and make it into a 2.1 set up with the speaker boxes (12L each) being tuned at 80Hz for that chest hit and the subbie with a 42Hz tune in about 20L (0,7 cubic feet). Both the speakers and the sub have front facing slot ports. Or you could make a huge portable speaker box like the old one but this time with separate chambers between the subbie and the 6.5" woofers and slot ports or tubes again tuned at 80Hz for the 6,5" and 42Hz for the 8". Do keep in mind that the port to cone area needs to be around 10-20%. Sorry for the long comment. CHEERS!
Haha, valid comment! Im toying with the idea of making cabinets for a 2:1 or another portable box, im leaning towards another portable box because of the drill battery adaptor now, but i also want to make some super nice looking cabients!
If you know the speakers FS/QES value (or QTS) you can calculate the EBP. And there you got a referens value for box volume.
Dont forget to add volume depending how much the speaker/hardware takes up volume of the box.
You can also calculate via free online websites if or not how big/long the ports are going to be.
Dont forget, ports with inserts takes volume.
But as you say, if i understand you correctly you want to measure the speakers yourself to get a true value of EBP, instead of whatever jibberish values the seller writes..
If they even exist at all.

Cheap (affordable) portable speakers can sound pretty nice, as long as you dont expect high SPL. But if you do get it, pretty darn awsome.
Hope this info helps others who would like to try, and at least get a close enough box volume to sound OK.

I love aliexpress! In fact I use it all the time to buy ampifier boards for my home audio system and it never fails.
Its such a shockingly great thing
Watching the box build for the temu speakers made me remember I had a bunch of decently cheap gear, a hifonics 12" sub and 2 4x6 blaupunkt coaxial speakers in a walmart sub box, I have the amp coming here in a bit and I can't wait to hear it all running, tested just the 4x6 speakers earlier and it made me more excited

I like the sound of soft dome tweeters. They're less harsh, and their f r is a bit lower, meaning they can cover upper midrange too which I feel, makes them blend in better.
I absolutely agree, im not a fan of the standard metal dome tweeters, they naturally have a really harsh tone

I'd also love a DATS V3. Problem for me, is it's one of those tools I'll rarely use. Irreplaceable for what it does, but I'd use it once twice a year tops :/
Start buying loads of super budget stuff and have some fun with it! Youll probably find some of the cheaper kit might not be THAT distinguishable from more mid range kit if treated right!

I can do the challenge, i ve build a proper diy 2.2 system composed of 2 boxes (each one has an 8 inch bass driver, 4.5 inch mid and a little AliExpress tweeter), the subwoofer are from soundimport(they are both GRS). Currently i am working on 2 towers each one with: two 8 inch bass drivers, 5 inch mid and dayton audio tweeter
Please make a box for those speakers they really sound good!!!

@@PacmanBasshead I've used adau1701 board, es9038q2m and 2 es9018 DAC boards, in order to have dedicated dac's and not use internall one, that adau has 😁
Having a collection of over 100 subwoofers and amps up to 20k watts it would be interesting to see the "quality" and performance of a AliExpress or Temu sub in comparison to some of my biggest and best equipment.. 👌 👍

Temu gets all the hype though! I do find the prices vary from listing quite a lot once they are in your basket!

You inspired me to build an isobaric subwoofer enclosure from an old desk sitting in the garage and it looks like hot garbage but sound decently nice. (2) 8" MCM subwoofers which cost $24 for the pair delivered and when compared to my Elac 10" sub it's not even comparable, haha, but still it was fun to build.
Hot garbage is my new favourite saying haha, you can build cabinets out of anything! Ive got an old display cabinet sat staring at me, waiting to be used!
Did you purchase the high excursion 8" MCM drivers. They are actually quite good if loaded into the correct cabinets & tuning. People on DIYAudio forums were building tapped horns and 1/4 wave alignments around them years ago.
Sadly MCM Electronics was consolidated into Newark Electronics years ago, a subsidiary of Farnell Electronics. Newark does carry about 7O% of the drivers that MCM sold, but seem to be slowly phasing them out! And they don't advertise them at all! The "pro" line of drivers would complete with the low/mid tier of Eminence at a fraction of the cost, and occasionally go on sale or clearance making them super cheap in the USA.
@@xxxxxxxxxx6903 They are good and exceeded my expectations. The only issue I had with doing a horn was the lack of wood from the desk I was using because I wanted to stay inline with using recycled wood and come to find old mdf from the 80s has a very pleasant pine wood scent. I did a cone to magnet Isobaric and mounted it within a 10"x10" box wrapped in a 14"x16" enclosure, front dual vented. It doesn't sound as nice because it doesn't have the frequency range as other enclosures would be capable of but for its size it's impressive.

I've been meaning to do a UA-cam vid on some speaker hacking for a while now. I'm keen to take up the challenge, my plan is to make DSP controlled(digitally controlled cross over)set of powered speakers out of a set of passive ones.
