@10:50 ... there is still a lot of garage doors, access doors, etc. with fix code ... therefore device like this is handy to demonstrate it and prove that upgrade to rolling code system is reasonable request.
Saying it's a replay device is vastly underestimating the device's strength. It has a ton of logic and can do things like run scripts, analyze spectra, and many other things. It's not just a "replay" device.
Got my order in this evening. Didn't know about the flipper one, though I assume it'll be a bit more expensive. Might get flipper one when it comes out if I like the Zero. GPIO makes the zero about as powerful as the ARM cortex chip on it, the flipper one with it's SOC will be able to do a lot of stuff much faster probably.
I think, Rolling Code will be my next project when I receive my Flipper Zero. it will be a fun addition to my TensorFlow Object/License plate Recognition garage door opener that I build with an old Raspberry Pi 3B and a camera.
It's a pretty cool device. I got one about a week ago. Updated to the xtreme firmware the other day when it came out. I was delighted to see that you made a vid about it. You should get the wifi Dev board and make a vid. Great video though!
I'm a trouble shooter and I think it would be cool to keep all my stuff on one of these to use like keys etc. There is a model of car, mabe more than one, that if the fob dies, there is an RFID chip in the fob that will allow you to start the car by placing the fob up to the start button or somewhere on the dash area etc. that would technically not use a code. It would use the RFID tag in the dash which cannot be rolling because the fobs battery is technically dead. The only way I could see that it is keeping up with the rolling part is if that little boost of electricity that the fob uses from the cars RFID reader magnetic field keeps it is sync. I do not think it does. I grabbed the wrong set of keys one day and was able to start my car with a dead fob that has no battery that has been sitting in a drawer for over a year. So use the flipper to copy the RFID tag INSTEAD of emulating the fob signal. Bam! your driving your car with the flipper. The door unlock signal on the other hand is the part I believe that gets people into trouble with bricking their fobs. Lol
I bought one for $169 because i have tons of rfid stuff that i want stored on a singular device so its easier for me and i want a universal remote for any tv anytime too. Like a sonic screwdriver lol
I could see using this to try to ensure the security of my devices. I mean it's scary that they can be used wrong and it makes it more accessible but you can also learn to make things more secure.
Loving my FlipperZero. Got one a few weeks ago. Have made backups for everything in my house that it can interface with. The infrared part is very useful. At work we have many models of TV's in conf rooms in many buildings. Now I can carry them all in one device instead of having to track them all down. Just one aspect that makes this device useful day to day. Very interesting stuff especially once you start playing with the firmware available in the community. As I was typing this, UPS delivered the WiFi dev board so now I have more things to test on it tonight. Love your vids Josh :) 73!
@@the_mariocrafter FYI phones have NFC which is not the same as RFID. NFC is a different frequency than RFID and phones can't work with that. Very similar in how they appear to work but different frequencies and payloads and as such not compatible. As for IR, yeah I happen to have one of those old phones but not useful for just that feature as it doesn't work as a phone on modern carriers. The flipper brings together many different tools into one device. Useful to some but not as much for others.
Lmk if you can disable a router remotely my roomates stream so loudly and I can’t sleep would be nice to disable remotely. I used to unlplug it but they figured it out lol. Might just take the adapter to my room
Can also use the flipper as a POCSAG compatible pager via one of the apps and the default frequency is of course none other than DAPNET (Decentralized Amateur Paging Network). Unfortunately I haven't had much luck with it due to the lack of amateur radio operators using transmitters connected to the dapnet in my area. Personally I use my flipper mostly for infrared and the occasional sub gigahertz.
Strongly considered the idea for my garage door. My garage is from the early 90s so likely has no rolling code protection and as of right now we've maxed out the number of keys that can be linked to it. It only accepts 4 keys but we have 5 cars. Because of it I was the unlucky one and need to use the key pad to open it, but my mother feeds animals in our front yard and I don't like the idea of standing there as a dear walks up to me. Being able to mimic one of the keys would be incredibly convenient. The only other thing I'd use it for is as a backup key for a hotel. Going with the family on trips usually means only 2 keys but 4 or 5 people. At the last place I went to they even had a two door entrance so I wouldn't even be able to knock the door to let me back in. Many hotels are switching to NFC so it's a fairly useful idea.
I want a straight IR remote I can stick a ssd in to "program" with a text file. That is, where something like the Flipper Zero is doing the harder work of figuring out "what the code is", but some way to turn around and fix a sea of $10 remotes to blast their IR code a little fiercer and do things the original remotes never did. Like crossing home automation and AV control, etc.
I've had mine for about 6 month I haven't done nothing with it yet I'm still learning about it at my leisure I paid 300 and something dollars for it. It's brand spanking new still in the box
I should have watched this before ordering mine. I work at several apartment complexes and they won't provide me with a gate opener, so I was hoping to use it to make access a little quicker and easier. Oh well.. I guess it could still be used for a little fun...
I've seen somebody use them to send signals to traffic lights, and using parking garages for free. These things are cool, but I am already seeing the grey area with them being HUGE
For some reason this reminds me of the "cheeseboxes" our generation used to beat Ma Bell and get free long distance phone calls. Fans were called "phone phreaks".
Love this video, but man, I really got mad when I was looking at your shirt while explaining things. Was seeing white dots at the line intersections but they're not there haha
High end cars, with features like lights on as you approach, or other types of features that sense when someone is standing near the vehicle, are impossible to replay. The reason for this is the car checks to see if the person standing next (in the vicinity of about 50 feet really) to it has the "key" or keyfob or not by asking it to roll the code. Any code saved before that point tin time is then made stale. They've been doing this since at least '06 if not earlier. I love the ability to dabble with things in my day to day, and even at work. I implemented most of these things so it's one of those places where the flipper and what it can do is at home legally speaking. Would I give a child this device? Not without oversight. Would I recommend it to any adult? Not without them first getting a firm understanding of where the boundreis of legality lie concerning how to use this device. Other than that, awesome little Tamagotchi!
I think with modification it would be theoretically possible for this device to support rolling code, but I wouldn't recommend it due to just the sheer societal implications of being capable of something like that
I would like to get a flipper zero 1 day. It seems fun and maybe I can do some things to mess around with such as pranking my own sibling by turning off the tv or something
I got one to use as a learning tool. It has been fun to mess with so far, the IR has been great! But wouldn’t you know, not a Tesla in site since I got it😂
11:00 but that means that you indeed can get access to someone's car without actually stealing and keeping their key, as long as you get to the car before they do.
Friday/Saturday night making random comments to the Burger King staff using the frequency their drive through used. Spoiler alert, them waves aren't really short...
For someone who is interesting in pursuing cyber security, do you think this would be good to use as a learning device? Like say, I was to code my own little hacks, could I use it as a learning experience?
It does support rolling code with Unleashed software, especially for some home automation. I can copy my Nice Rolling Code garage door with Flipper device, listening only one transmission. In my country every fourth automatic garage has remote from this company. Also there are some KeeLoq private codes attached to this software. It is a real hacking device, you can do a lot with it. I think man in the middle attacks for credit cards or cars with two flippers and additional GPIO board will be possible if someone will add support to SIM card and maybe additional radios. But yeah, If you are not a programmer/hardware hacker/UA-camr you don't need one, it is not cheap thing to have. I use it as a universal remote for all my stuff.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Sorry, I missed that. For me this device is so awesome I wanna talk about it all day, even it sound like a correction, it is not i want to share my hype. They are really hard to get here in COsta Rica, but was so lucky that I found it in an outlet for 15 $. And I have to say it is an amazing piece of technology.
Definitely keep the power of one of these devices in check and don’t let it go to your head. Some of the obviously evil/illegal things you could do besides copying RF ID codes is covertly copying credit card data and then playing it back on a merchant point-of-sale to buy stuff on a strangers credit card, depending on the gas station you might be able to Change the gas prices, and at least in the US most utility companies use smart metering and they have a contactor in them that the utility can use to shut off your power if you don’t pay your electric bill which means you can shut off someone’s power with the flipper zero. Or do other things relating to the electric meter like alter readings etc. and avoid attempting to copy or copying stuff on sensitive government things like access codes federal buildings or other restricted areas or you might run afoul of the espionage act.
Also be aware that these things can trip certain brands of arc fault breakers that are found in modern newer homes built since 2004, the same thing happened with certain HF compatible handy talkies. So keep that in mind if you order one and then you notice certain breakers keep tripping when you’re playing around with it

Really it should have perhaps been a screenless device that you wear or hide somewhere and control remotely from your phone. Nobody bats an eye at a person intensely staring at their newspaper right?
@@SianaGearz Good news then...you CAN use the phone app to remote control the device. Still has a screen on the device itself of course but still makes for new fun options :)
@@HamRadioCrashCourse is impossible to get it,been following to get one and always they are out of stock,do they have a particular day of month they re-stock?
My flipperzero shows up tomorrow if USPS is accurate. Looking forward to experimenting around, heck I’ve already recognized I’ll need to familiarize myself with git. This led me into the m5stack/stick line of controllers and now I’m waiting on a couple of those too. -73
How long did it take them to ship it out after ordering?
FedEx International customer so hopefully I get mine within 2 weeks.
They had a tracking number attached to my order in four days. USPS took another 11, but I’ll cut em some slack considering Christmas and the polar tornado HIHI
@@K0DMT I've been given a tracking number already, though it's a basic "warehouse has confirmed shipping" tracking number.
Estimated delivery is early January which is good enough for me. It'll give me time to look over some of the programs available for it and learn how they work.
I ended up deciding on getting the flipper after playing around with UART, JTAG and SPI on some devices I own, decided I want to check my wireless devices out too.
It'll enjoy using it when I get it.
I'm late to this party but I was searching today for somebody who would tell me what this thing is without being a clown and/or hype machine. Thank you.
Thanks!
@10:50 ... there is still a lot of garage doors, access doors, etc. with fix code ... therefore device like this is handy to demonstrate it and prove that upgrade to rolling code system is reasonable request.
GPIO makes the zero about as powerful as the ARM cortex chip on it, the flipper one with it's SOC will be able to do a lot of stuff much faster probably.
we have a long while till the flipper one comes out tbh
@@bigezy420 Is that even officially confirmed? Or do people just use it as a catch all for "the eventual successor for the zero"?
@@mcbrite Confirmed on the flipper forums.
@@mcbrite yes the flipper one will not be here for a couple more years most likely not until the full potential of the flipper is found
This device should encourage designers to rethink the equipment they are selling that isn't secure.
I think, Rolling Code will be my next project when I receive my Flipper Zero. it will be a fun addition to my TensorFlow Object/License plate Recognition garage door opener that I build with an old Raspberry Pi 3B and a camera.
I still have my captain crunch whistle, and my blue box.
OG status!
on the subject of cereal what happened to honey nut clusters
Toneloc is still available on github. Just sayin'. :-D
It's a pretty cool device. I got one about a week ago. Updated to the xtreme firmware the other day when it came out. I was delighted to see that you made a vid about it. You should get the wifi Dev board and make a vid. Great video though!
I have the dev board. 😅 I’m working on it.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse sweeeet. I got one coming soon. Have fun!
Many of my non-radio friend have one... yet I do not. Hope I can get one at some point though!
I could see using this to try to ensure the security of my devices. I mean it's scary that they can be used wrong and it makes it more accessible but you can also learn to make things more secure.
I’m in school for cyber security and am delving further into the IT world so I picked one up to play with.
There are older phone models with IR and new Chinese phones with it, and the RFID is also on most phones as well.
How much does it cost after taxes ?
You can update the firmwire?
Lmk if you can disable a router remotely my roomates stream so loudly and I can’t sleep would be nice to disable remotely. I used to unlplug it but they figured it out lol. Might just take the adapter to my room
Can also use the flipper as a POCSAG compatible pager via one of the apps and the default frequency is of course none other than DAPNET (Decentralized Amateur
Paging Network). Unfortunately I haven't had much luck with it due to the lack of amateur radio operators using transmitters connected to the dapnet in my area. Personally I use my flipper mostly for infrared and the occasional sub gigahertz.
I need to dip into that. I have a pocsag pager.
Didn't even mention that you can play DOOM on it :)
Best universal remote EVER! Not for noobs...
It's rare to find people who still know the real meaning of hacking - good video
Thank you!!
If you have to pair an opener remote, it's got rolling codes.
The cool thing about the flipper is that people can make programs for it, give it sometime and someone is going to start a car with it lol
Lol. I have a relative that pulls those pranks. He listens to the Tesla owner and his friend arguing about closing the charge port.😆

Lol. Well played.
I've had mine for about 6 month I haven't done nothing with it yet I'm still learning about it at my leisure I paid 300 and something dollars for it. It's brand spanking new still in the box
Do you still have the flipper... Would you like to sell it? I'm in Australia
I’ve ordered mine yesterday and i think that is the most awesome thing i ever seen, one word opensource 😊MacGiver of nerds

Excelent video, btw!
"a few screws left over" If I had a nickel........Great vid. Thanks for sharing. Hak5 shout out sucked me in too! I'll be back. Peace out all.
I should have watched this before ordering mine. I work at several apartment complexes and they won't provide me with a gate opener, so I was hoping to use it to make access a little quicker and easier. Oh well.. I guess it could still be used for a little fun...
I got one! I like the Flipper. The IR helps me most too, love that part!
I've seen somebody use them to send signals to traffic lights, and using parking garages for free. These things are cool, but I am already seeing the grey area with them being HUGE
You could use in certain vending machines with the sensors that check the quarter
Nice
I just got one!!! Im 42 going on 15!!! Yahoo
I love mine!!! So fun! Not the most functional but i find it helpful to have.
You could flood a wireless alarm system with RF and defeat door/wall sensors and stop/interfere with a signal to a audible siren.
I use it for quick pen-testing outside of work.
I’m sure your work loves that. 😅
I have the the sub ghz card on the way for me... helps a lot with range on the sub ghz side.
Nice Lucha! I EDC mine with my flipper too.
I got one to use as a learning tool. It has been fun to mess with so far, the IR has been great! But wouldn’t you know, not a Tesla in site since I got it😂
Same bro 😂 teslas be scared ever since
Evertime I don’t have my flipper I see Tesla’s 😂
I too like the Tesla idea. 😂
Seems like a great tool for a locksmith maybe
My friend got one today and we may or may not have the power to unlock all doors with keycard lock
Ordered one today I just want to learn about these
Im waiting for the flipper one so bad
Want them rolling codes
11:00 but that means that you indeed can get access to someone's car without actually stealing and keeping their key, as long as you get to the car before they do.
Friday/Saturday night making random comments to the Burger King staff using the frequency their drive through used. Spoiler alert, them waves aren't really short...
Love that kershaw lucha
For someone who is interesting in pursuing cyber security, do you think this would be good to use as a learning device? Like say, I was to code my own little hacks, could I use it as a learning experience?
Sure. Also the bad usb is cool to script with.
Yea, flipper's IR can even get through a hoodie fabric.
I dont know if i cant make a exact replica as flip 0 but the emulate radio wave is interesting.
Except for the transmission of radio waves, you can do most things with your Smartphone
Very informative. Thanks!
thx for explaining!
Flipper can handle some rolling code, there are algorithms already cracked
Love this ..wish I had some cash. Mess with my family's btv lol
It can also act as a pocsag pager, maybe for hampager🤔🤔
I bought one for several reasons. Pen testing customers equipment and duplicating and writing ibuttons. And messing with Teslas is a riot.
Yeah. The I button is really handy.
“Out of the box”
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Sorry, I missed that. For me this device is so awesome I wanna talk about it all day, even it sound like a correction, it is not i want to share my hype.
If more people will have this device and knowledge that comes with that we will be in more secure world, nod dominated by devices that can be cracked by tamagotchi.
Love your videos 💞 Take care!
You should do something with the modern rogue and the flipper zero
This is fucking cool. I don't even have a use for it but I want one lol

They are really hard to get here in COsta Rica, but was so lucky that I found it in an outlet for 15 $. And I have to say it is an amazing piece of technology.

15$$ 😂😂😂 I give you 150 for 2 it’s about 197€ -250 € one
I Know I Absolutely need One i have to have it so Cute
So keep that in mind if you order one and then you notice certain breakers keep tripping when you’re playing around with it
How do you even change gas price like I don’t get it
Could be a very handy piece of tech when the US starts its brownout phase and cuts off people's electricity without even telling them for "Net Zero"
Don't have one but I want to get one, maybe in like a month.
Lol that was handy video. Thanks and subscribed.

I wanted one till i saw the price, instead i got an RTL-SDR for my raspi zero W, i can send and transmit with more flexibility than the flipper, and i have lots of gpio to add a card reader/IR blaster. Sucks the raspis are also overpriced now
