worth remembering that FCC is a regulatory agency and not an enforcement agency. if you are in trouble for real, they will turn it over to DOJ and it will be US Marshalls that show up searching and seizing. there is no point giving an FCC representative a hard time if they want to inspect your station, you agreed to it when you were licensed with your radio PRIVELEGES
Ya know, it's public info, how many people and for what "crimes" have been punished over the last decade (not sure if the records go back further.) It's literally like 10 people, and the only people who have EVER been punished, were doing things like jamming police frequencies or jamming local repeaters blaring music, essentially trying to operate an illegal radio station. And yes, the local cops who were being jammed came after him, it was in NYC. They also asked him nicely to stop several times before acting on it. There has NEVER, in the entire researchable history of the FCC or ham radio, been anyone punished for just simply talking over the air or using repeaters. just keep in mind these are civilian made modes of communication made for civilians. Seeing all the videos of "sad hams" literally denying starving and helpless people access to food and water just because they didn't have a callsign or license, 100000% confirmed for me that 99% of hams are elitist human trash. How can anyone deny someone without water for a couple days and no cell phone service in good heart seriously get on the air and say "don't talk to them, they're unlicensed." It makes me want to inspire so many people to buy radios and mess with their frequencies that it becomes totally unenforceable. (not that they care anyways, the FCC literally publicly states that it's up to the radio operators to pretty much govern themselves.) Oh and you REALLY want to hear something hypocritical? All in ear monitoring systems, what pro musicians like myself use to hear ourselves on stage, transmit on ham frequencies. And guess what, definitely no license required. And it literally plays music, that's the whole point of the technology. So according to the rules made however long ago, they should be illegal. Yet they are a staple of the music industry. What gets me, is my IEM system costs around $800, and can only transmit pretty much across a small stage. The belt pack receiver itself is like $300, and made of plastic. But anyone with a $30 radio can pick up the frequency. I need a real ham to help me beat the system lol
This is the best training system I have found. I used a different training system for my general & didn't do as well on that one. After watching your videos, I aced the tech test with ease. Thank you.

Have started my studies for my tech license. Looking forward to being able to use the UV-5. Plan to add a vehicle mount too. Already have a GMRS license.
Thank you for your work! This has been helpful but I have a question- So say that I'm the license holder but I'm knocked unconscious in an emergency situation and a member of my family is otherwise unable to call for help- if one of them picks up my radio and says "This is of who is unconscious we need help". The radio doesn't have the license, I do but I'm unable to speak on the radio and it's clearly an emergency. What are the consequences of that?

45:44 Question: So if you could use a button that plays your call sign in CW to fulfill the FCC requirement of announcing call sign at end of/every 10 minutes how would the other HAM on the receiving end know what it says if they aren’t proficient on CW while doing a POTA or SOTA? Do some radios have a CW decoder? Thanks

Thanks Josh for the video sub element videos, I watched all 10 you make it very easy to understand everything about passing the test and getting a license. Keep up the great work I enjoy your channel.
Great presentation Josh. Question, is Logging mandatory? Is there just a general log you can keep, when your just broadcasting for fun? I have seen some licensed people state they don't keep a log to turn into the FCC database? Please explain if you would sir...
You are not required to maintain a log. However you can for your own personal accomplishments in long distance contacts. Generally HF contacts are of most interest. We use paper, and electronic logging in most cases. I have some videos on the topic.
Reading the 2018 to 2022 technician class FCC element 2 has the same questions you went over here as well. Theres a new book but I am unsure if theres any changes witb the questions.
I ran into intentional interference just yesterday. On FT8. How can an operator interfere on FT8 you ask? Well... by constantly responding to a CQ and never progressing in the conversation. Just repeatedly replying with my call, his call, his grid. Never acknowledging a signal report, tying up my station so it didn't progress. When I was calling CQ CN trying to make contact in China. I ended up disabling transmit for about 5 minutes.
any chance that you'll do this for general as well? I got my technician's license by watching your videos and would love to do the same with general if you are able to and want to. thank you!
Big Fan here (GMRS) I do have my appointment on the 20th of APRIL,23 for my technician license exam. So, do I need to study only SUB ELEMENT T1 ? from T1A01 to T1F11 until page #9? I been crushing my head reading all the 60 pages but can get them all. I will appreciated any input, your video is amazing thank you very much it really help me to understand better and more clearly the Q&A's
I am studying the videos and preparing for the exam. However, would the address in my FCC profile / license become a public record? I am thinking to use a virtual address and not sure if they would accept it or should I go w po box?
Great video lots of information But also very frustrating for every 5 minutes of content I have 10 minutes plus of commercials😢 if I cant get to my device to skip it 😢
F08 : I didn't think that your example sounded correct. So I looked it up : "(47) Third party communications. A message from the control operator (first party) of an amateur station to another amateur station control operator (second party) on behalf of another person (third party)." Unless I am misunderstanding that sentence, it is basically saying HAM to HAM passing a message for someone else. And I would assume that it would be from a non-HAM to a non-HAM but message passed between two HAMs. Though, if you are the control operator, a message directly from another person speaking, I assume would be the same category. But I think that you are putting yourself as more risk, as you are responsible for anything they said.
Oddly enough with Bravo08 I listen to our local police chatter from car to dispatch. A lot of fun, but I usually unselect the option for my boafeng to accidentally press the button to send a transmission to them lol.
I appreciated the 4th amendment excerpt and accompanying information. It's interesting that the FCC is permitted to retaliate. Do you have any idea if this has ever been challenged in court?
upon the question, "How many operator/primary licenses (license Grants), may be held by one person." - The correct answer is one. But here is another question I have personally. If you already have and hold a license for another type of radio service such as if you already have a GMRS license and call sign of which has already been issued by the FCC and you take and pass the Amateur Radio Technician's license exam and the the FCC grants you a technician's class license what happens to the GMRS license and call sign? Are you allowed to keep and hold the GMRS license as well as the Ammateur Radio Technicians class license or does the GMRS license and call sign become invalid? the reason I'm asking is because I'm already an FCC licensed GMRS license holder and now I want to try and get my Amateur Radio Technician's license.
Your gmrs call sign and license are completely separate from amateur radio. He is speaking about amateur radio licensing. If you take your technician class and pass the test, the FCC will issue you a call sign and a license for Technician class, if you decide to take the general class and you pass the FCC will issue you a new license with your general credentials the call sign will stay the same. The same thing will happen if you pass the extra class. Your license credentials will change, but your call sign will stay the same, which means you only have one license for amateur radio.
The FCC rules state the technician class can only use SSB type voice mode on 10 meters. I'll throw this out there since it's confusing as to where this is found. First, look at 97.301 where it specifies that the Technician Class and Novice class have permission to use 10m from 28.0 to 28.5MHz. Great, now that we know what spectrum we can use, we turn to part 97.305 where it specifies what modes are allowed. For 10m it states "28.3-28.5 MHz | Phone, Image | (f)(1), (2), (10)" so we have phone privileges but there are additional restrictions specified in (F)(1), (f)(2), and (f)(100) of 97.307 so let's read those. I'll just tell you (f)(1) and (f)(2) aren't relevant but (f)(3) states, "A station having a control operator holding a Novice Class operator license or a Technician Class operator license may only transmit a CW emission using the international Morse code or phone emissions J3E and R3E." Okay, so we're almost there (Why are they so convoluted), it states a Technician Class can only transmit phone emissions J3E and R3E. Any google search will tell you J3E = SSB speech communication and R3E = SSB with reduced carrier. Dang that's a lot of work just to verify something simple.

Studying now for technician so timely and thanks for a great video.
I sent this video link to my son, I want him to get the license, I’ve been an amateur Radio for 31 years and is one of the best hobbies I meet. Also I follow you, keep doing this work, is great!
Thank for this video.
Thanks for this. Im studying now and your quick little deacriptions are great
Thank you!
You Sir do an excellent job of explaining the question and also of how to come to the conclusion of the correct answer. (Or more simply put) It's starting to make sense! Thank You, I'll be going to the beginning of this series for study starting tonight. Again Thank You for your time and contributions to the hobby. It's time to get my technician's class license.

Great to hear!
Just obtained my Technician license (KK7WKO). I used your Crash Course, as well as some of the suggested resources. Thank you for all the support and help!
Congrats!
I take my exam in 10 days! Thanks for your informative videos!
Hay Josh thanks for the help. I passed my Technician's test this morning 33/35 correct!
This video series is great. I can’t always flip through the answer pool in the back of the book I like to listen to this while driving. Or if I don’t have the book
Passed my technician exam today thanks to your videos. It was super easy, I should have done it years ago. Thank you!! General exam next!
Great job! Congrats!
Ironically I read the subjects you did like a week ago, working towards getting my license. Cooking dinner while listening and almost new every single answer. That is without even seeing the questions
Have started my studies for my tech license. Looking forward to being able to use the UV-5. Plan to add a vehicle mount too. Already have a GMRS license.
I really appreciate you taking the time to make this great serious!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your work! This has been helpful but I have a question-
So say that I'm the license holder but I'm knocked unconscious in an emergency situation and a member of my family is otherwise unable to call for help- if one of them picks up my radio and says "This is of who is unconscious we need help". The radio doesn't have the license, I do but I'm unable to speak on the radio and it's clearly an emergency. What are the consequences of that?

Just remember a club must have at least four members to get a club station license grant. You can still have a club with three members, you just won't get a club station license until you get that fourth member.
I just passed my Technician Exam about 3 hours ago! Thanks for the information and study help Josh! 👍 😅
i wanted to thank you very much for all you're time and videos today i passed my technician license you helped a lot iv'e told many of others about you so i hope you continue to get more subscribers thanks again hope to talk to you one day! my name is Matthew i'm from upstate NY.
Glad to help
Thanks for this series and this format.
I wish you had the same thing for general.
I am a truck driver and have done all my learning while driving or listening before sleeping (can’t watch).
I am unable to do the same with your General course.
Super thanks for these though.
We’ll have a general out in not too long.
@@HamRadioCrashCourseBest Ham channel on the Tube.
Can’t wait!

Question: So if you could use a button that plays your call sign in CW to fulfill the FCC requirement of announcing call sign at end of/every 10 minutes how would the other HAM on the receiving end know what it says if they aren’t proficient on CW while doing a POTA or SOTA? Do some radios have a CW decoder?
Thanks
They’d have to learn CW.
I have a tech license.. this really helps. Are you going to do this with General? People have different styles of studying.. this is like my grandma reading me a bedtime story 😂. I like it man. Do General! 🍻
thnx for doing this, i am also listening to an audio book, but having the visual is super helpful. Now to just get my brain and memory to get down the different MHz stuff. think this is going to be the toughest part for me.
Thank you for making this digestible and easy to follow
I'm brand new to this and really appreciate you sharing your expertise.
Helpful, useful, and informative. Thank you.
Thanks!
Welcome!
quick observation sir - we missed the answer to T1F11 I am sure the answer will come up in the future
@45:47 .. Please let us know .. Which radio/radios emit CW (Call Sign) via just pushing a button .. Thank you for your time & consideration
Thanks for everything you do. Just passed my technician test yesterday and could not have done it without you. Appreciate your channel
Thank you for this video! A friend of mine is encouraging me to get into ham radio and I’m trying to get all the knowledge I can to see if it’s for me.
Thanks Josh for the video sub element videos, I watched all 10 you make it very easy to understand everything about passing the test and getting a license. Keep up the great work I enjoy your channel.
Ham study and signal sticks are awesome.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse you are a great help Josh. Don’t let anything or anyone tell ya different 😎
Thanks buddy!
Reading the 2018 to 2022 technician class FCC element 2 has the same questions you went over here as well. Theres a new book but I am unsure if theres any changes witb the questions.
Good Stuff...working on getting my technician license...where do you get the frequency charts you display in these videos?
Can you do a set of these for getting general?
I ran into intentional interference just yesterday. On FT8. How can an operator interfere on FT8 you ask? Well... by constantly responding to a CQ and never progressing in the conversation. Just repeatedly replying with my call, his call, his grid. Never acknowledging a signal report, tying up my station so it didn't progress. When I was calling CQ CN trying to make contact in China. I ended up disabling transmit for about 5 minutes.
Add him to the ignore list. 👍
@@HamRadioCrashCourse You can do that? In WSJT-X? I'll have to look for that. I didn't know there was an ignore list.
This defiantly helps clear some things up. Thank you.
Excellent work on element training 👍
Your the best, thanks alot, now I do understand more on different types of specs points....
Glad to help!
any chance that you'll do this for general as well? I got my technician's license by watching your videos and would love to do the same with general if you are able to and want to. thank you!
Wow, I wish there was a video like this for UK users.
All the sub elements. Check out the playlist. There is a video that gives and intro and another that explains the testing process.
Your really good at your diagrams, various connections across the globe and I love it. Teach high school lol 😂
I am studying the videos and preparing for the exam. However, would the address in my FCC profile / license become a public record? I am thinking to use a virtual address and not sure if they would accept it or should I go w po box?
Yes! Please use a PO BOX. 👍
Great video lots of information But also very frustrating for every 5 minutes of content I have 10 minutes plus of commercials😢 if I cant get to my device to skip it 😢
Josh, new subscriber, came over from Randy's channel.
Welcome!
Thank you for this video series!
thanks josh can’t wait to take my test!
thanks Josh!
I'll just tell you (f)(1) and (f)(2) aren't relevant but (f)(3) states, "A station having a control operator holding a Novice Class operator license or a Technician Class operator license may only transmit a CW emission using the international Morse code or phone emissions J3E and R3E."
Okay, so we're almost there (Why are they so convoluted), it states a Technician Class can only transmit phone emissions J3E and R3E. Any google search will tell you J3E = SSB speech communication and R3E = SSB with reduced carrier.
Dang that's a lot of work just to verify something simple.
There are a lot of elderly operators like my dad, that couldn't even use an email or would even consider getting an email.
