Gaming has changed a lot. I remember playing Bloodrayne on PS2 and I remember being so surprised when Rayne said the f word. Swearing like that was almost non existent in console games until l guess San Andreas.

A lot of random things have copied RPG mechanics while still generally not being considered 'RPGs' like Call of Duty having a minimum of character customization, but the action RPG genre has a long history. Zelda games, Assassin's Creed, Nier, God of War, etc... Stellar Blade is one of those.

Kotaku isn't making them money at this point, I'd bet pretty much any money on that. The site's vitriol cut them off from industry access with many large publishers, site-wide banner adds are generally a terrible source of income these days, and their UA-cam videos can't even break 1000 viewers half the time, with a supposed 36k subscriber base. I genuinely think that the only reason they haven't sold Kotaku yet, is because they haven't found a buyer. And if it does get sold, there's a very real chance that the current stuff will need to go, a la Deadspin.
