Ok, Roger I found a clean out behind the kitchen drawers. I was super excited, got my 25’ snake, my DeWalt hand drill and Snaked and baked my way to and thru the kitchen pipe. I think I even whistled Dixie because I’m bad, I’m fix’n dad’s worrisome problem. When finished, I proudly showed pops, that I,,, his middle son, was worthy.
He came to the kitchen to see my miraculous accomplishment. Turned on the tap and now everything is more Plugged. Now we have no drainage at all. The water stands in the sink, nary a drop goes down, basically it’s worse now.

I've got a 60' pine tree growing nearly over the outflow of my foundation drain. It came with the house. Took a few basement floods to figure out what was happening (on my own). There was no cleanout and it left the foundation at about 7' down. On the advice of an excellent septic man we dug down and installed 2 verticals to the surface about a foot apart with 90 degree bends at the junctions, one going toward the house, one going away. So now once a year he comes up with a cutting tool on a snake and it's about a 30' reach (7' down and about 25' toward the foundation) to where the roots typically appear.
Point being, there is a tool that could be snaked down to cut through roots. Then I guess it'd be nice if there was a way to install an inner sleeve at the break and seal it. Blasting through concrete seems pretty radical, but I'm definitely not a pro.

I have a k50 sectional with a 25 ft 3/8 reinforced cable drum attachment and 100ft of 7.5 and 10 ft sections of 5/8 ths cable. For roof vents, showers and sinks the 3/8 th cable drum attachment is awesome. Light weight and versatile. For main drains it's slow and cumbersome and you have to lay out a tarp and manage the cable but this was my first machine I started out with. Now I own a 3/4 hp general drum auto feed machine witch is heavy but I'm more efficient and faster along with cleaner because it's all together. Living in a small town it's not feasible for me to get a camera but I'm looking for a used one. Never know what you find. Not to ramble but you need two machines. One big and one small. I use a jetter for mobile homes with is a game changer. Mobile homes use ABS that's glued and not primered so the jetter is not as violent as a spinner machine. Plus the membrane under the trailers you have to cut if the pipe comes apart. So many things to doing what we make look easy like anything else I guess. Thank you for your videos, it's nice to see others work and get tips here and there. UA-cam university!

I used a K-50 with ⅝" cable for roof vents. And a K-1500 with 1¼" cable for ground level use. I never ran machine while backing it out because, I did not want to lose anything that might have been caught on the cutter head. The ⅝" cable was easy to pull out but the 1¼" if it went through to many bends I had to 'unthread' it by running machine forward.

Hello Mr. Wakefield. Could the roots come up through the 1/2'' gap between the closet vent and the slab then back into the closet vent and down into the sewer creating a horse tail. Then by cutting off the roots at the gap and pour dawn down the closet vent you could pull the roots out. then if you want put salt or root killer into the gap install a new wax ring and reset the toilet provided the flange was not damaged do to the root intrusion.

I’ve been plumbing for 8 years now with 1 year drain cleaning experience mixed in. I’ve been told the taking a water hose to the vent first is best. The weight of the water usually pushes the stoppage down(nest, rodent). The one issue I see with a machine on the roof is reventing. You won’t know if your in the right branch of the vent. Any thoughts on that?

Man my toilet drain pipe is completely clogged I mean no movement in water level .. so I rented a 1/2x50ft drain cleaner. I ended up using all my cordage and to my surprise when I went to my back yard to see that my cordage coming out of my vent pipe off my roof. Should I assume it’s cleared out or should I I do it from roof

If the home were on a septic system would you use any measures to prevent clogging material from ending up in the tank as it breaks up or Is this even an issue. I have may leaves on my roof and we get alot of rain.

Clean it once and install some type of mesh screening over the top. I've done it as a plumber countless times. An easy, homeowner capable fix

I am freaking out I have a roof vent pipe by my bedroom window and as a washer was spinning and emptying tonight I kept hearing glug glug. I've been washing dog blankets daily because I have puppies and I'm sure that's the problem, or at least I'm hoping! Can I go try to unclog it from the wash drain first or do I have to go to the roof? We won't talk about the amount of trees in my yard , Ssh 😬

What size pipe diameter that is used with copper pipe for the toilet ?? Three inch or 4 inch and what is the drop of the drain pipe per foot ?? Thanks
I am just amazed that the plumber did not wind copper wire around the pipes and the roots would stay at bay. But they just want to keep coming over and billing the customer.

Spartan #300 machine, 5/8ths cable, through minimum 3"-4" vent only. Key word only being is un-able to forsee just what is causing the problem within the sewer line? You can run the cable through a 1"1/2 or 2" vent, you will most likely clear the stoppage. Massive problem to follow, retrieving the cable with tree roots wrapped around it, pulling it back within/out through a 1"-1/2-2" vent. Nearly impossible, lucky if reversing the machine in prayer shot in hope's the roots fall off the cable during the process. If there is no 3"-4" roof vent available, pull the closet/toilet in the furthest bathroom rear within the house, machine un-plugged run the cable by hand to make the drop approx 4'-8' into the sewer line. Which is the closet bend, once you make the drop within the closet bend, Tree roots or anything like tampons, baby wipes, you will clear the line. As well as save yourself from the all to common cable retrivement if tree roots. Due to closet bends are minimum 3"-4", along with the existing sewer line. Then reset the toilet, problem solved without any roof excursions.

Looks like the roots are penetrating the pipe below the transition point?.. fitting possibly not glued on top side
or a seperation. Unlike cast iron or terracotta, pvc or abs don't have sections that leak from hub unless it's not properly glued, crack or separation.... I have also seen roots penetrate piping where ferncos were not concreted underground.... here in New Jersey it is required by code...

Option 3 do yearly maintenance. We use gorlitz sewer, jr, and niard. Depending on the job.We are highly trained drain cleaners. We can clear 98% of blockages. Not everything needs to be replaced.

If its a dead rat in 3 inch vent pipe will a drain snake grind it up enough to flow down stream thru main sewer line..or will the cork screw type snake head wrap into rats body so you can pull it out..if rat is dead it should eventually decompose and be a small skeleton with dried skin..it should crumple up with root cutter attachment..right?

I found a squirrel in my sisters vent pipe. Filled it with water and tapped the pipe gently with a hammer and it eventually broke free. I had a main drain pipe in the yard impacted with 4' of roots, I almost got a face full of ........um effluent when I got close to digging it out. That stuff shout up and out of the hole about 3'. Nasty!
