I know it’s common to test a camera like this on action-sports but I think the camera is actually much more likely to appeal mostly to the tabletop niche. 95% of what high speed cameras are used for. I’d love to see tests in those type of studio lit scenarios 😊
Super helpful Matt! Can you speak further to the flicker in the stadium? Was it non existent? Or not present because of the amount of daylight there? Thank you!
The stadium lights didn't flicker even as it got darker at halftime. I'm not sure if that would be true for all stadium lights, as it's probably dependent on the type of lighting they have.
It varies since I use the physical aperture ring on the lens to get correct exposure with the Ember. In a controlled lighting environment I'd probably be at T3 or 5.6.
nice video but why did the Sony emount not worked with manua focus? want to rent a ember with the Sony 200-600mm 5.6f-6.3F lens. Does the aputure change during the zoom and will be back at 5.6F when I am on 200mm? is it possible for you to test that?
All Sony G and GM lenses use electric contacts to communicate with the camera. The Ember doesn't have electric contacts. So focus doesn't work even in manual mode. You have to use a cinema lens with the Ember.
1) Does the camera works with 180 shutter angle? or do you have to set the S.S manually ? 2)only manual cine lenses would work with the camera ? Or can i use any of my Sony lenses ? I have various PL cine lenses, but would be nice to use one of sony G zoom lenses. is that possible?
Yes the camera has shutter angle. The Sony G and GM lenses won't work since they have the contacts I talked about in the video. I tried all of my Sony lenses and none of them will focus because even when switched to manual focus they still use those electric contacts. I do think there is a Sony E to PL adapter you can get so you can use those cine lenses.
No it doesn't. There are no electric contacts between the camera and lens. But shooting that many frames per second, you only need like one second to be in focus and you can stretch it out to like 20 seconds!
Excellent camera ... thanks for the review!
Stoked you're liking the camera! Insane footage you shot day 1
Thanks brother! It's such a fun camera. I can't wait to use it more!
Nice shots! I am thinking (and still saving) to maybe get one in South Africa.
Thanks! It's a pricey camera, but super fun!
That footage is something else!
Cheers from the U.S. 🍻
emberr slowmo footages looking sick

I don't do that kind of video, but I'm sure after the camera has been out for a while you can find some footage!

Great Video
What is your favorite frame rate to get max quality ? Amazing examples
Definitely 5K 616fps!
Why don't other e mount lenses work?
thanks
Im okay with my Wave, just wish I had the budget for the Ember!
I think they have a trade in program to cut that cost down a bit.
Great video!! Would like to know how different was that initial color frame camera to match your Sony alpha? Thanks
I shot the Ember in HLG mode so it was pretty flat so I just brought it back to REC 709 and then Hue vs Hue shifted the colors to match the a7Siii.
What fstop do you normally use on the the Irix 150 T3?

Thanks! I was considering this camera. Do you know if this is compatible with Meike Cine Lenses (manual focus), T2.1-2.4 with a Sony E mount?
Yep any E-mount Cine lens will work

Remove the lens when the camera is open and be able to focus manually@@mattcarlson12
Hello It’s work with your atomos Ninja !? With mine impossible to have picture….
I used the Atomos Shinobi. Can work with any HDMI input on monitor.
@@mattcarlson12 unfortunately not , i wrote to freeflysystems , it seems it’s work with shinobi but not with Ninja V !! Thank you
HI Matt, the native sony lenses does not work with The ember ?
Any E-mount lens that doesn't have electric contacts will work. Mostly cine lenses. None of the GM or G Sony photo lenses will work unfortunately.
@@mattcarlson12 Thank you Matt !
Does it have auto focus?

@@mattcarlson12 Awesome! thx for the response 🤙
Does it have autofocus ?? Why can’t ISO go up more than 400 ??
No autofocus. I believe the ISO is just a limitation they set in camera for the amount of noise it would produce above 400 at such high frame rates.
Where can I buy ?
store.freeflysystems.com/collections/ember
Is it possible to plug the camera into the computer to copy files while still shooting?
I'm not actually sure about that? Sorry!
Downloading and shooting can’t happen at the same time with Ember.
Oof. Can't use Sony lenses on an E-Mount censor. Def renders it as a rental only for me.
Right!? Major bummer for me too since I have so much invested in Sony G and GM lenses.
