I love this channel because the focus seems to be education versus selling. I love listening to filmmakers that share info and not run a shopping network. Thanks Kofi.
@@charlestcrepps huh? It’s a literal conversation about spherical and anamorphic lenses. It’s not even really a “versus” and it’s explaining info not direct selling points. So what are you talking about?
Here's how I think of anamorphics (at least from a technical perspective. the creative perspective is a whole other bag of donuts): the number on the lens is my 35mm equivalent "compression" which is to say that i will get the equivalent of a 40mm depth of field on any anamorphic 40mm lens. the squeeze factor (1.33, 1.5, etc) is the number that my 35mm is divided by to get my 35mm equivalent "field of view". SO, a 40mm 2x anamorphic lens has the depth of field and compression of a 40mm spherical, but the field of view of a 20mm (40mm divided by 2x). Once I locked in this quickmath trick, it makes lens choice and previs so much more clear. Cheers mate. Congrats on the new whip.
It depends on the type of situation that you need for that job. Great job with educating us with this video! I film weddings and corporate works so I am interested in weddings for using anamorphics but in that run and gun setting of weddings, I feel like it would be tough to use.
I love this video! Also quick question, what is the best way to export anamorphic videos for social media like IG/TikTok/FB etc.. I haven’t found much online , and all my footage always look too stretched or not enough to show the anamorphic characteristics. With all the decompression from these platforms , the math be confusing lol
Hey Kofi, I need your help. I have a Sony fx30 because I mainly focus on filming but I notice that I can get clients with photography but I don’t have another camera, should I sell my camera and buy the Sony a7iv? Or do you think that’s a down grade for filmmaking?
Just my humble opinion: I’m a Sony shooter, and I’ve researched every camera on the market right now, and my opinion is an emphatic no. The fx3 is a superior photography camera in its own right, and it can do everything the A7s3 can do, just without the eyepiece. So for stills, you will simply have to shoot your stills Julia trotti style: by using the LCD screen. Even when you eventually purchase a dedicated photography camera, you are still going to need a good, low-light system, and whether for photography or video, that’s your Fx3.
@KofiYeboah Great review, Sir!! I think to a certain extent, it also boils down to preference and taste/style of the filmmaker, for spherical vs anamorphic. I cannot speak as much expertly as you, but looking at lenses for my next camera I would definitely look at anamorphic lenses. But also I would have some spherical and other lenses like Sony's G series as well. This video is a great source for research and knowledge. Thanks as always
Imagine if Sony start create cinema lens for Sony. And call it. Cine alpha lens. Would be good. Like work with Auto focus. Without having ef and pl Mount for other lens. And works to any Sony camera

It’s just selling bro… look where the money comes from and that will tell you all you need to know.

@@charlestcrepps unfortunate you’d think that, was any of the information I gave incorrect?
@@KofiYeboah There’s a reason why you “favorite” creators all post videos about the same products at the same time.

That’s a great call!
@4:16 yeah it’s not till you’re paying over $15,000 that you see wider. Atlas orion 18mm anamorphic for example - $18,000 USD
You right !
I was literaaly doing a deep dive on this for upcoming projects and low and behold Kofi drops the knowledge!

You would need a golden hand to pull focus or those DJI Lidar systems for autofocus.
@@Giovanni-Giorgio I would get the DJI lidar system
You're right - depends on the style, and definitely the light!
You rock Kofi.
Thanks brother I appreciate it 🙏🏾
Kofi AKA "The Educator"! Thanks for this breakdown brotha!
No doubt! They call my uncle Kofi the teacha 🙏🏾 miss you bro I gotta come to Texas soon

I typically keep it spherical with 9:16 content ! I think Cam has a video on vertical anamorphic!
6:15 and Fujifilm camera as well have open gate!
You’re right !
The fujifilm slander is crazy
@ not mentioning something isn’t slander 😂
@ it’s not necessarily aimed at you it’s just a lot of people leave fujifilm out of things idk why but they do
@ I like the video though !
Great video. What Anamorphic lenses would you recommend for the FX3
The BLAZAR Remus are widely popular!

I think it depends on your style of filmmaking , longer takes the fx30 has a fan and some other things like the audio handle where the a7iv dowsn

Would you be cool with making a video on using atamos ninja v with newest redesigned firmware with a sony a7iv
I unfortunately don’t have one anymore (Sony a7iv)

They actually DO have a Cine Alta lens line, just no one sells it anymore 👀
You misspelled spherical in the title. It is Spherical not Sperical.
@@ImaginetMedia probably why the SEOstinks lol
Watched this. Still don't understand much. But I do photo and not video.
That might impact your experience a bit, as anamorphics are usually more a video thing
