So happy to have come across your channel. I’m 26 years old been working as a custodian since 19. One district for 5 years and now on my 2nd year at another district. I miss working in my old district we had great coverage in the buildings and had a great staff. The new district is close to home I make More money but it’s ran so poorly and short staffed. But I do the best I can and take pride in the job and the teachers notice my hard work. A lot of the other guys I work with complain I do to much and shouldn’t straighten the desks and that’s why it takes me long to do the area I’m assigned to. I just do it the way the old district showed me. I’m hoping to bid on a better position soon when guys retire but all in all I’m blessed to be a custodian. If I get an elementary job ill have the whole school to myself and will be able to do it the way I like to do it without getting harassed for doing to much. I see nothing wrong taking pride in your work. Maintenance of the school is rewarding work! Subscribed my friend!
I have always had a strong work ethic. I have been made fun of or ask what are you doing that. I have even heard I would do that nobody else does. Don’t ever lose who you are. I went through a period recently that I just lost my value and want to. One thing to keep in mind. Don’t let others get to you. Don’t fuss or try to prove anything. Just do your job go home and sleep well at night. Knowing you did what you know you need to do. Stay in control of the job don’t let it control you. Take your breaks and vacation. Don’t ever let it wear you down and make you bitter. At 26 you have a lot of life ahead of you. Enjoy every moment of your life. You only get one shot at it.
I’ve been a custodian now for 4 years . This just further confirms how important it is to master your area. I will say though, some nights I have no time other than dry mop my Halls at the end of my shift. I’d love to run that scrubber every night, but people/teachers/administrators DON’T understand, every night is different, and certain areas look like a hurricane went through them. As the saying goes in our county, “do what you can do”.
This is super important and true to its core. I am the head custodian of the building and I have like five different projects a week. It definitely helps to stay focused on building issues. Such truth and thank you. It’s tough being on my guys because my guys get lazy sometimes. I definitely have to stay on top of the guys.
i love your channel! i have been a custodian close to 10 years and this is great advice. i am the lead at a very large high school and literally everyday you can expect to have some sort of hiccup in your "schedule". if you stay on top of things consistently you will actually work less each day. its a balancing act and you just have to remember people aren't as hyper focused on the building as you think they are!
If you're a lead and you have to perform Preventive Maintenance on equipment every month, try to do them as soon as the month begins, even before you get the paperwork. It's helped me stay on top of that part of my job.
I’m a sub custodian I go to multiple schools today I was at a brand new school I had a 3 hour custodian shift and after one of the other custodians talked my ear off for 30 min I had to do my job at 75-80 percent vs 100 😅
My crew have a couple of individuals doesn't let it go. It's so stressful so I have to get envolve in that. I take my rest and lunch alone. If we have to clean the gym but in advance I notify that I am behind cleaning the kitchen due a professional cleaner leave late. What I have to go when two important areas to be clean, I have to finish the area what I am currently in the go to the next so the crew have to clean the gym without me.
what do you do to remove your pencil marks in classrooms??? I work at a elementary school 13yrs now it's a constant issue, just curious how you remove them without messing up the wax
i use clorox wet wipes on the pencil marks on our wax floors. lay one down and rub with my foot. my trash barrel wheels catch pieces of lead on the floor sometimes.
mr jeff great content you provide,, i would like you to take 4 or 5 empty toilet paper rolls and tear them up in 1 inch size pieces,and soak them in a bowl of water for a few hours,,then gather them out of the water in squeezem them up in your fist. and go lay it beside a commode on the floor, you can have fun , put some brownie bites i a clean toilet and prank the help you have, its all right it will be ok, hell do a video,,,,how too..........do the doo doo lmmfao ,, have fun bud

I had that problem for the 19’years I was there. Never found a solution. That didn’t dull the wax.
