Streaming has made everything disposable - from music to tv. I’d rather invest in purchasing my content than pay someone to rent it.
BTW, so glad to see you pop up in my feed again. Welcome back! 🎉

I definitely agree with you. Entertainment is sadly becoming very disposable.
Thanks for the nice words! I appreciate you watching very much!

2:43 learned this lesson the hard eay with my Amazon account. Kept noticing that songs I expected to hear in a playlist hadn't been playing and songs I was certain I had in my digital library, some songs i even paid for, were missing. Or the song was listed in the playlist but i couldnt click it to play it.

It's a major issue that's probably only going to get worse. Thanks for watching.

Another reason for buying physical media such as blu ray is that, if we don't they will simply stop producing it altogether. In fact, some studios have already started due to sales being so low. Cancel that netflix subscription and buy blu rays instead!!

Yeah, physical media was a big part of Hollywood's business model on the backend for years. You'd have to imagine with that well drying up that they would be less willing to take risks on projects (or simply not produce them at all).

Well yes, this is the thing. Movies tend to disappear and most are generally mainstream. I'm interested in the more obscure TV show and films and blu ray is the only way to find them and no one can take them away!

Believe it or not, I do not stream at all. Streaming is against my principle for a number of reasons. First and foremost, streaming destroyed one of my favorite pastimes, that being say going to a record/CD/hybrid book shop on a Saturday afternoon, spending hours on end literally auditioning unlimited titles recommended to me by the most knowledgeable shop assistants including special imports. This could be less so in the States, but out here in Asia such as Hong Kong and Singapore, many such shops are gone such as HMV, Tower Records, Borders, etc.
Secondly, I keep hearing the streaming business model simply doesn't work with countless artistes especially the younger ones in complaining it is impossible to make a living via streaming. To me, that is absolutely disgusting and I have no problem paying the artistes properly for their creation and hard work. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out why streaming doesn't work. Take Tidal for example, HK$96 a month for HiFi Plus. That is a joke, that is less than the cost of a CD when I used to buy 10+ CDs a week back in the day, so go figure.
Last but not least, I want physical media. I want to be able to read about a particular album, I want to see and feel the creative graphic designs of the sleeves, I want to see pictures from the latest photo shoot based on the album concept, etc. I also like to see my collection continue to grow. Plus, now that I am more of an audiophile and being older, I listen to music differently. I don't "DJ" my music as in track by track anymore, I tend to listen to the whole album uninterrupted these days in not rushing my music.
And because of that, I am still buying CDs to date, although granted online. I buy a whole range of discs including SACDs, XRCDs, SHMCDs on top of the average CDs, many from Japan which tend to have the highest quality recordings, may be 30 a month.

I quit vinyl in the mid 80s when cds came out. Vinyl overpriced and overhyped and still wears out. I'm a cd collector and I definitely don't stream music or rent music. Streaming is basically free so no wonder everyone uses it.

I pretty much only use streaming audio for sampling what I want to possibly get on vinyl and I might not be familiar with.
In fact, I canceled my streaming service earlier this year because I wasn't really using it for anything. It was costing me each month but at the time I was having to cut back on vinyl purchases for a little bit. But then I had to go into the hospital for about a month and I quickly realized I wasn't going to be able to listen to any music through headphones other than what I have on my phone which is primarily music of artists I like cut down to make ringtones. So I signed back up and for about half of that month I was able to listen again. It definitely has its benefits but it's definitely not what I choose when I have the choice :-)

7:58 ......do you have any content discussing that distinction between hoarding and collecting? I'm afraid my vinyl collection is creeping toward......or past the line🥺

    • @DevotedtoVinyl

I think when you start amassing so much "stuff" that It overwhelms your realistic ability to enjoy it all, it's starting to tip past collecting and into hoarding. I also think when you purely "collect" out of fear (items selling out, censorship, peer pressure), it can become worrisome. Thanks for watching.
