Nice reaction. I suggest you listen to the original versions in Portuguese on the albums "Os Mutantes" from 1968, "Mutantes" from 1969 and "A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado from 1970. These English versions are not bad, but the originals are much better in terms of arrangements, and interpretation, as they were more experimental, while the band was part of the Tropicália movement. Ps: 23:58 The biggest city of South America is São Paulo, the hometown of Os Mutantes. 😉
Wonderfull review Lugga! It's a fun, light but adventurous record and you really got into it which I loved to see :D. And yes as you discovered it's a bit of a hidden gem (the band likes it now btw).
Panis et Circenses is (somewhat bad) latin for Bread and Circuses. They were part of tropicalia Movement in Brazil, meant to adopt and adapt foreign influences, mainly in Rock in brazillian music.
Cool reaction man. I have to agree with most people in the comments though and recommend the original versions. These are alright, but some of them sound kinda generic compared to the real thing. They were more "in the zone" at home, I guess. They deliberately changed many arrangements for these english versions, but it kinda killed the vibe of some songs imo.
We really love Os Mutantes!!!!!! They are an incredible group!!!!!! ❤
