I can not recommend the basement session for In Rainbows enough it's mindblowing, and when you get to The King Of Limbs the basement session not only has 3 great songs that aren't on the album, but it sounds far better than the studio album does. It's a very experimental album to begin with and it really shows what a great project it really was when they play it live. The had to get a second drummer (Clive Deamer from Portishead) because the percussion was so intricate (and insane) that they couldn't recreate it live so instead they basically reimagined the entire project from scratch and the result is incredible.
James is right as always - I am a devoted lifelong fan and of all the great moments in the band history, "In Rainbows: Live From the Basement" is to me the vert peak achievment - you see the 5 guys recreate all of these vast luscious soundscapes live with no tricks in an intimate little space, and it sounds as good if not better. And come on now - 7 10 rating, 2 9 ratings and a 7 on the interlude pallette cleaser track 'Faust Arp' and it doesn't deserve a 10 overall? I'm just giving you a hard time, but if you do have a 10, please let us know so we can see what eclipsed this Masterpiece! Thanks for the vid!
@@dreww1609 AS always he probably needs to listen to it at least half a dozen more times before he can really fully appreciate it and give it the credit it's due after it's totally digested.
I’ve listened to this album hundreds of times and its brilliance has not been diluted by familiarity. Listening to it again with you has been great - thanks for this video and for reconnecting me to the first time I heard these great songs - their set at Bonnaroo 2006. I recommend catching this concert here on UA-cam, it’s the best I’ve ever seen - by a long shot - out of hundreds of shows!! I think the band and many fans acknowledge it as among the very best shows they’ve played. Cheers 🍻
Really enjoyed your review, thank you. Can't believe you skipped over the out of this world beautiful close harmony section in Reckoner though, it's so amazing. But you know we all have our favourite bits.
@@luggareviews I wasn't that serious, this album is so amazing, I always get shivers in three spots: the outtro of All I need, the close harmony in Reckoner and the transition in videotape when the drums come in and the background vocals. That last song just breaks me every time, it is about death and facing it alone. It's not pessimistic "No matter what happens now, you shouldn’t be afraid, because I know today has been the most perfect day I’ve ever seen.” Just goosebumps every time, leaving me in tears but it's also cathartic.
really love this álbum, it gives so much summer/spring nostalgic feeling... also would love to see you react to more pj harvey albums like "stories from the city stories from the sea" "white chalk" "to bring you my love" and "is this desire?" and also Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau twins
Most people listening to this album for the first time: "This is the best Radiohead song ever. No, this is the best one. Wait, now this is the best one. Ok, I just listened to the best Radiohead song. What, yet another best Radiohead song."
This is a terrific album to check out sound equipment on, it just sounds so beautiful and each sound seems to have a purpose, it's own time to shine for some time until the next one comes along.
When I saw the notification for this vid pop up on my phone, I audibly gasped loudly in class. My friends all turned around and asked “what’s wrong”. And I said “My favorite UA-camr just posted a reaction to an album near and dear to my heart ❤️”. So excited for this!
Funny enough, the same was me when the album was finally announced and the subsequent live tour. I still remember bonding with my Creative Writing teacher over this album senior year of HS. We both bought the album when it came out and gushed over it in the class. I had 15 gigs of radiohead live stuff at that time with a few versions of the songs that came up on the album -- and then it was released and it sounded nothing like the live versions. My best friend and I stayed up all night before the live tour tickets were released because RH only announced the day and not the time they were to be released (and they're UK not US time so who knew when it'd actually get released). It happened in the morning and my best friend unfortunately went to take a shower to prep for school that day whereas I was lucky enough to refresh right on time to by 5th(iirc it's been over 15 years now hahaha, 3-7 was the row behind the pit) row tickets to the show in houston. I bought the DiscBox and it was over two months late I complained to RH and they sent me a replacement-- the original ended up showing up 8 months later so my brother got one for free :D
Delighted to experience this with you - its a very warm beautiful album but with an edge of sadness throughout, to me its all summed up by the line in Jigsaw Falling into Place: "Wish away the nightmare..."
You absolutely have to listen to the Scotch Mist and the Basement versions of this album. It's the best album of the 21st century, but y'all ain't ready for that conversation 💅
Radiohead kind of mixes Electronica with Art rock like Aphex Twin and Autechre. The Vocals are beautifull along with the Aesthetic. It is great to see you back on album reactions. Some of my favourite albums would be In Rainbows,Ok computer and Kid a.
Na not better than the album, the mixing is a big part of what makes In Rainbows (and all their records really) a banger. The basement session is cool to see what gear they used though for the stripped back versions

Both of the basement sessions are definitely must watch. ESPECIALLY that KoL album like you said.
Came here to say the same!

"What happened to the depressive Radiohead?" he asked, listening to the song about hanging
@@victortenz8439 that‘s true, what is he doing… maybe I was talking just about the sound itself idk
It's funny how i already listened to this album like billion of times but your reaction made me listen as the first time. Good review as always!
This album is so good it's like its own greatest hits album

Great review. Would love for you to review a Beach House album-preferably one of their first four albums.

What is the song in your outro?
The more you listen to this album the better it gets and don't skip disc 2 it has some great songs on it.
