I chop alot of the red meat up to put in my hushpuppy, batter after I make hushpuppys,it's a great little treat after the fish has been eaten 😋 pork n beans slice of onion some fried tators an fish bites lol cold pork an beans straight from the can
I always trim red meat and yellow fat meat off every fillet. Anyone I've given cleaned catfish to has always said how good catfish really is. Just the way I do it.
In my 60 years I’ve always trimmed the dark meat because like you that’s what we were taught. Thank you for posting this. I guess this weekend we’ll try it.
Finally tried my first catfish!!!! Fried it exactly how you showed. Got my wife and sons to even try it and they liked it. Thanks for the great instructions and for your professional taste testers
Never worried too much about the red meat on a catfish. I do like to bleed all my fish but not even sure that makes a huge difference. Thanks for the video!
Certain types of fish just have a stronger flavor. The red meat definitely does give fish a stronger taste and some more than others. It’s just hard to beat a flathead for flavor in the catfish category in my opinion
My exact words from broken blades55 the way I see it if you want catfish then you eat catfish same way with deer you eat the wild taste too. Use to soak deer in water to get rid of the game taste but not no more.when you do that you just get rid of all that flavor.
It's due to the clean water that they're taken out of which your waters certainly appear to be. I grew up eating lake caught blues & channels and neither my Dad nor Granddad cut out the red meat and we never could taste the difference. Now a cat out of a muddy body of water, that's totally different. But in the end, it's all up to personal preference.
😊😊😊😊😊😊I tried this same thing a week ago, i had 4 fillets of channel catfish i bought from the market. T side i couldn't see had more red meat than I have when I catch, and clean me own 😮😮😮😮😮😮. As i was trimming out the reddish meat, i realized I was losing too much of the fillet. I decided to just cook, and eat them, I was totally surprised that they were not "fishy" tasting 😊😊😊😊😊!!!!!! From this point forward, I'll clean, and prepare them as before, but not as nitpicky 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅.
My opinion is its the way you were raised. Ive never cut the red meat off, because my dad never did. It reminds me of people saying that deer has a gamie flavor. To me its just how deer taste. There aren't many critters that swim ,crawl or fly that i haven't eat and their differences in taste is why i like them. If youve never tried grass fed and grass finshed beef it has a different flavor from regular beef that was finished in a feed lot. Try everything you can never know what weird thing you might like.
Without watching the whole video yet, here is my experience. Flatheads, the red meat is not near as strong. Channel cat, it needs to go.
Love these taste test videos and keep them coming please.
I’ve found freshly cleaned and cooked bloodline isn’t bad but if the bloodline has been frozen and cooked it’s awful
This is exactly right, we all don’t have a tank to store our fish in until we get ready to clean and eat it. Good video Mike. 👍

PCB's are concentrated in the fat of the fish. Keep trimmin' them!
It's been my experience that when you freeze the red meat it makes it worse. It ain't bad fresh
Nice job, thank you all for doing it.
That was impressive! I was very surprised at the results! Thank you for sharing my friends!
Happy National Catfish Day lol
You didn’t even soak it at all?! I love that you do videos of questions I have in my own head! 😂

Where you get that strong taste is there's a mud vain that runs through it and it's not the red meat

Why do people complain about the fishy taste when you are eating fish, I like fish
