Welcome to Home Free. The highest tenor is Austin Brown who has moved on for a family and solo career. Rob Lundquist is the other tenor (with the beard) and very soulful. Adam Chance (goes by Chance) is the baritone/bass and Tim Foust is the bass with 5+ octave range and probably the best bass in the business. Adam Rupp is the vocal percussionist and is a freak of nature with his super realistic drum sounds and he is also the co-founder with his of Home Free with his brother Chris Rupp who you will see in older videos and was replaced with Adam Chance. Adam Bastein is now the tenor that is in place of Austin Brown and you can't go wrong with ANY genre or music choice in their large catalog.
Actually, Tim helped him with his growl technique. Tim doesn't use subharmonics, he uses growls I don't know if it was while they were on the Sing-Off or afterward on the Sing-Off tour but they are good friends. Home Free used Geoff's arrangement of Elvira in their video with the Oak Ridge Boys, and gave him a shout-out at the end. You should also see Voiceplay's live rendition of Elivira I am linking here. You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. I grew up listening to John Denver's songs. Hundreds of artists have covered "Take Me Home, Country Roads". But I feel Home Free took this one to another level for me. It is one of my favorite covers of this song. I love everything about it. It is a masterpiece. Tim Foust, the bass singer, has stated in interviews that they spent years working on the arrangement for this song. They were never satisfied, so they would shelve it until they felt they could truly do it justice-- and boy, did they! They always do justice to the music first, even when their videos are so hilarious or so out-of-this-world-beautiful to be distracting. As you explore more Home Free from the past or from more recent times you will see for yourself. It is all great. I subscribed hoping to enjoy your journey of discovery.

I’d like to suggest my personal favorites. I’m going to list them so you can be exposed to each one in a lead role. “I Can’t Outrun You “- Chance lead, he directed the video, and it’s hauntingly beautiful. His vocals are so rich and warm. He’s a very emotive singer. “End of the Road”- Rob lead, shared with Austin. We get Gospel Rob in this one. FYI- Chance does the bass line in this. “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”- Austin lead. It’s great fun. Two Tim leads so you can hear his lower and higher registers. “Brothers in Arms”shared lead with Chance. Don’t be too quick to stop the video or you’ll miss the ending. It’ll give you goosebumps. “Snow Globe”, also written by Tim. Some others are “Do You Hear What I Hear?”- arrangement by Adam Rupp. It’ll blow your mind. “Helplessly Hoping”- pure 5 part harmony. “Angels We Have Heard On High “- one of my favorite Christmas songs by them. We get to hear Angelic Rob in the beginning, and the arrangement is quite sophisticated. “When a Man Loves a Woman “- Austin lead. Three videos for fun- “Champagne Taste (on a beer budget)”, written by Tim. “Full of Cheer”, Tim’s follow up to “Champagne “. “Butts Medley”. This one is musically great but is hilarious.
One of my favorites of theirs. They worked years on this arrangement of this iconic song. Forgive me, but I love it better than the original. Anyway, everyone’s voices shine in this and Adam, beatboxer, was tremendous. Love Home Free, they are known for their incredible harmonies.
I'm thinking that we may have a new "Home Fry" (HF fan). With the approach of Christmas season, you need to see HF's version of "Do You Hear What I Hear" ! The opening singer hear is Tim Foust, the bass of the group. Tim has a 5 octave range and he starts this somewhere in the 3rd. And if you happen to like bass, go catch Tim and Peter Hollens doing "Misty Mountains" (or any of the many other duets that have done).
Tim helped Geoff learn to go as deep as he does. VoicePlay and others are great but Home Free is Phenomenal!!!! A little hint...when Adam (the beatboxer) who is self taught joins in the harmony, he doesn't move but when he's beatboxing he can't help but move lol. So if he's not moving you're hearing 5 part harmony.

Gina, you should SEE the smile on my face right now! The John Denver (original) version puts me to sleep in one verse. THESE guys make me smile, laugh out loud with amazement, and go looking for my jaw somewhere on the floor. You've seen me extoll the wonders of a cappella ever since I "found you" about 10 months ago. Home Free, Voice Play, Pentatonix, and Voctave. Those are MY 'big four.' I have often said that my favorite is whomever I am listening to at the moment. Home Free does a cover of "Brothers in Arms" from Dire Straits that will blow your mind. AND... it showcases Tim's amazing lows. For a short number at New Year's Eve, they do an AMAZING version of Old Lang Syne (Pentatonix also does a killer version... I was driving, it made me literally pull off the road the first time I heard it). I honestly can't pick a favorite of the 4. If I HAD to, like it was 'choose or die'... I think I'd say that Voctave has become my favorite by a slim margin. But if you want to hear walls of sound like you never have heard before... Voctave. They usually sing with 11 members. They may not have a Geoff or Tim, but the basses do rumble... all the way to their amazing sopranos... and everywhere in between. Voctave does "O Come, All Ye Faithful" that is mesmerizing (the Tenor's name is E.J. Cordona). Enough.... If you get the impression that I'm an a cappella fan, you would be exactly right!!

To appreciate the lyrics to this song, it helps to be from W.V.! Grandmother lived in coal mining community, complete with a company store! Skies, houses, creeks, cars, swing-sets, mail boxes, were covered or contaminated by residue from mines thus Dark and dusty! HOMEFREE - BEAUTIFUL!!!

The reason, for me, that accapela music hits different is because it's so much more intimate. There is nothing between you and the music, i.e. instruments. It's just you and the artist (s).

I love welcoming new Home Fries to the world! I loved your genuine reaction! I could see it in your face how much you appreciate the talent it takes to perform a cappella. These guys are in a league of their own, in my opinion. I do love Voice Play, though! The two groups actually were on the same season of the Sing Off, Season 4. Home Free won. Voice Play was 4th place. If you want to hear more bass from Tim in the group, check out their cover of “Folsom Prison Blues”, the latest version of “Ring of Fire”, “Brothers In Arms” (5 part harmony in that one), to name a few. Glad you found Home Free, some of the best music out there. You can't go wrong with any of their videos, but I personally recommend "End of the Road" and "American Pie". Home Free are one of my top 3 artists, the others being Tommy Johansson (power metal singer and multi-talented instrumentalist), and Bloodywood, Indian metal band. They started in 2000. Their old logo used to actually have "since 2000" or the like on it. But their first performance wasn't until 2001. Since 2020 was such a car wreck, Chris decided to do his "Home Free is 20 years old!" Home Free History series in 2021 and use their first performance as the date they "started". Those dates aren't really in contention. It's just whether you count getting together, working out who's singing what, arranging songs, etc -- all the prep work before a first performance -- as the date of founding.
I try not to pick favorites, but you can find a number of quotes from Geoff about Tim. Geoff is as good as he is because of Tim's tutelage. Dude is OG 5 octave range basso profundo. You earned yourself a sub! Fantastic react.
If you keep up with home free, you will see why tim is considered one of, if not the best bass in a capella. His has an amazing tone in his low notes. Geoff is great at subharmonica...a neat trick whete you sing up an octave but add vocal fry and cut the volume a bit and it artificially lowers an octave. Sounds great.....but his chest notes in the lowet range are very nasal in tone and i dont care for it. Its also 100% subjective....but i prefer very good vocalists serving the song and not very good vocalists always flexing their extremes. Gratuitous bass drops can be off putting to me just as over doing a vocal scream or whistle note for example....turn me off

I saw my first Home Free concert a little over a year ago. They performed this song. ...in West Virginia. The performance and the atmosphere were both amazing. It was emotional. And I have no connection to WV except that I drove there for a concert. 🙂
You should check out their rendition of "How Great Thou Art". You'll get to hear great harmonies as well as each member has at least one solo. No percussion or beatboxing. Just five beautiful voices. The bass is Tim Foust and he has a 5-octave range and the baritone Adam Chance has a 4-octave range. For the most amazing blend of voices, I've ever heard check out their cover of Helpless Hoping" it will blow you away. Rob Lundquist is the tenor but can go rather deep also. He is the one with the glasses and full beard and voice like butter. Adam Rupp is their beatboxer/vocal percussionist extraordinaire. Austin Brown is the high tenor and is amazing. Austin has recently left the band and was replaced by Adam Bastien aka Bastien due to the fact that there are now three Adams in the band. Tim has blown out the speakers a many concerts. Check out Tim Blows The Speakers. I suggest "Elvira" sang with the original group The Oakridge Boys to hear a bass off. Welcome to the HF rabbit hole! I really enjoyed watching you discover Home Free! Your face said it all. If you like a capella harmonies, HF is the group for you! I think this is a much better intro to them than Man of Constant Sorrow. It has great dynamics, lovely harmonies, lots of exposure for each voice - an all-around perfect intro. Their official video list stands at 197, but there are also some lovely tracks from their albums that do not have videos. Nearly any genre you can name. All excellently done. As for Geoff vs Tim - sort of a toss up, but personally I prefer Tim. I think they have comparable ranges, I know Tim's is 5+ octaves and excellent as any place in there. Check out his do-wop album, maybe In My Room, or Why Do Fools Fall in Love?. He has been doing 'stairwell shorts' with Peter Barber, Bobby Bass, and Big Brev - really stir your bass loving bones!

You expect a decent group to do a good version of a song you like, as I do this one. However, these guys do versions of songs I find annoying that are spectacular and which I listen to frequently. I am thinking specifically of Do You Hear What I hear? and Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. The guys also have collaborations with the original artists that are remarkable. They were sought out by Kenny Rogers and they did Children Go Where I Send Thee. They have done both American Pie and Vincent with Don McLean, as well as backing him on his new song American Boys. They did a spectacular version of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the Singing Sergeants of the US Air Force band. They did Don't Laugh at Me with Mark Wills. They did One Voice with Billy Gilman.

Actually, Tim helped him with his growl technique. Tim doesn't use subharmonics, he uses growls I don't know if it was while they were on the Sing-Off or afterward on the Sing-Off tour but they are good friends. Home Free used Geoff's arrangement of Elvira in their video with the Oak Ridge Boys, and gave him a shout-out at the end. You should also see Voiceplay's live rendition of Elivira I am linking here. You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound.
I grew up listening to John Denver's songs. Hundreds of artists have covered "Take Me Home, Country Roads". But I feel Home Free took this one to another level for me. It is one of my favorite covers of this song. I love everything about it. It is a masterpiece.
Some of my favorites by Home Free are "Man Of Constant Sorrow", "In The Blood", "Ring Of Fire", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "How Great Thou Art", "Elvira", "Hillbilly Bone", "American Pie", "Seven Bridges Road", "Helplessly Hoping", "Brother In Arms", "One Man Band", "Listen To The Music", "Sea Shanty Medley" etc.
This group is by far the best in my opinion. The vocal blend cannot be matched. Subbing for many more Home Free reactions.
I generally like acapella groups and Home Free is my very favorite. They have both talent galore and an accessibility that just draws you in.
Tim Foust, the bass singer, has stated in interviews that they spent years working on the arrangement for this song. They were never satisfied, so they would shelve it until they felt they could truly do it justice-- and boy, did they! They always do justice to the music first, even when their videos are so hilarious or so out-of-this-world-beautiful to be distracting. As you explore more Home Free from the past or from more recent times you will see for yourself. It is all great. I subscribed hoping to enjoy your journey of discovery.
These guys are down to earth and goofy as hell. But also some of the most talented, with the ability to touch your heart. Each of them are amazing performers. Hope you continue on this road.

I’d like to suggest my personal favorites. I’m going to list them so you can be exposed to each one in a lead role. “I Can’t Outrun You “- Chance lead, he directed the video, and it’s hauntingly beautiful. His vocals are so rich and warm. He’s a very emotive singer. “End of the Road”- Rob lead, shared with Austin. We get Gospel Rob in this one. FYI- Chance does the bass line in this. “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”- Austin lead. It’s great fun. Two Tim leads so you can hear his lower and higher registers. “Brothers in Arms”shared lead with Chance. Don’t be too quick to stop the video or you’ll miss the ending. It’ll give you goosebumps. “Snow Globe”, also written by Tim. Some others are “Do You Hear What I Hear?”- arrangement by Adam Rupp. It’ll blow your mind. “Helplessly Hoping”- pure 5 part harmony. “Angels We Have Heard On High “- one of my favorite Christmas songs by them. We get to hear Angelic Rob in the beginning, and the arrangement is quite sophisticated. “When a Man Loves a Woman “- Austin lead. Three videos for fun- “Champagne Taste (on a beer budget)”, written by Tim. “Full of Cheer”, Tim’s follow up to “Champagne “. “Butts Medley”. This one is musically great but is hilarious.
One of my favorites of theirs. They worked years on this arrangement of this iconic song. Forgive me, but I love it better than the original. Anyway, everyone’s voices shine in this and Adam, beatboxer, was tremendous. Love Home Free, they are known for their incredible harmonies.
I'm thinking that we may have a new "Home Fry" (HF fan). With the approach of Christmas season, you need to see HF's version of "Do You Hear What I Hear" ! The opening singer hear is Tim Foust, the bass of the group. Tim has a 5 octave range and he starts this somewhere in the 3rd. And if you happen to like bass, go catch Tim and Peter Hollens doing "Misty Mountains" (or any of the many other duets that have done).

Tim helped Geoff learn to go as deep as he does. VoicePlay and others are great but Home Free is Phenomenal!!!! A little hint...when Adam (the beatboxer) who is self taught joins in the harmony, he doesn't move but when he's beatboxing he can't help but move lol. So if he's not moving you're hearing 5 part harmony.

Gina, you should SEE the smile on my face right now! The John Denver (original) version puts me to sleep in one verse. THESE guys make me smile, laugh out loud with amazement, and go looking for my jaw somewhere on the floor. You've seen me extoll the wonders of a cappella ever since I "found you" about 10 months ago. Home Free, Voice Play, Pentatonix, and Voctave. Those are MY 'big four.' I have often said that my favorite is whomever I am listening to at the moment. Home Free does a cover of "Brothers in Arms" from Dire Straits that will blow your mind. AND... it showcases Tim's amazing lows. For a short number at New Year's Eve, they do an AMAZING version of Old Lang Syne (Pentatonix also does a killer version... I was driving, it made me literally pull off the road the first time I heard it). I honestly can't pick a favorite of the 4. If I HAD to, like it was 'choose or die'... I think I'd say that Voctave has become my favorite by a slim margin. But if you want to hear walls of sound like you never have heard before... Voctave. They usually sing with 11 members. They may not have a Geoff or Tim, but the basses do rumble... all the way to their amazing sopranos... and everywhere in between. Voctave does "O Come, All Ye Faithful" that is mesmerizing (the Tenor's name is E.J. Cordona). Enough.... If you get the impression that I'm an a cappella fan, you would be exactly right!!

To appreciate the lyrics to this song, it helps to be from W.V.! Grandmother lived in coal mining community, complete with a company store! Skies, houses, creeks, cars, swing-sets, mail boxes, were covered or contaminated by residue from mines thus Dark and dusty! HOMEFREE - BEAUTIFUL!!!
@@MelaneeMorgan I LOVE the lyrics. It's John Denver's voice that always set my teeth on edge. And the melody gets a little boring. It just wasn't "pleasant to my ear. I'm the same way with Steve Perry from Journey. I can only hear one Journey song in a row. Anyway, with THIS song, Home Free simply elevated it to the point where I LOVE it!

I love welcoming new Home Fries to the world! I loved your genuine reaction! I could see it in your face how much you appreciate the talent it takes to perform a cappella. These guys are in a league of their own, in my opinion. I do love Voice Play, though! The two groups actually were on the same season of the Sing Off, Season 4. Home Free won. Voice Play was 4th place. If you want to hear more bass from Tim in the group, check out their cover of “Folsom Prison Blues”, the latest version of “Ring of Fire”, “Brothers In Arms” (5 part harmony in that one), to name a few. Glad you found Home Free, some of the best music out there. You can't go wrong with any of their videos, but I personally recommend "End of the Road" and "American Pie". Home Free are one of my top 3 artists, the others being Tommy Johansson (power metal singer and multi-talented instrumentalist), and Bloodywood, Indian metal band. If you'd like to check out either, I recommend Tommy Johansson's cover of "Winner Takes it All', and Bloodywood's "Aaj". Really enjoyed your reaction.

They won The Sing Off season 4 2013
They are the only Country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do so so much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do.
There is no Lead singer in the group.They each ( except Adam R )sings the song and who’s ever voice or voices sound right for the song gets the lead unless it is a bass/ baritone song then that’s Tim or Chance.A lot of time each member have a part in the song.

They started in 2000. Their old logo used to actually have "since 2000" or the like on it. But their first performance wasn't until 2001. Since 2020 was such a car wreck, Chris decided to do his "Home Free is 20 years old!" Home Free History series in 2021 and use their first performance as the date they "started". Those dates aren't really in contention. It's just whether you count getting together, working out who's singing what, arranging songs, etc -- all the prep work before a first performance -- as the date of founding.
I try not to pick favorites, but you can find a number of quotes from Geoff about Tim. Geoff is as good as he is because of Tim's tutelage. Dude is OG 5 octave range basso profundo. You earned yourself a sub! Fantastic react.

Took Adam Rupp, beatboxer extraordinaire, original founder, 5 years to arrange this to get it "just right".
If you keep up with home free, you will see why tim is considered one of, if not the best bass in a capella. His has an amazing tone in his low notes. Geoff is great at subharmonica...a neat trick whete you sing up an octave but add vocal fry and cut the volume a bit and it artificially lowers an octave. Sounds great.....but his chest notes in the lowet range are very nasal in tone and i dont care for it. Its also 100% subjective....but i prefer very good vocalists serving the song and not very good vocalists always flexing their extremes. Gratuitous bass drops can be off putting to me just as over doing a vocal scream or whistle note for example....turn me off

I saw my first Home Free concert a little over a year ago. They performed this song. ...in West Virginia. The performance and the atmosphere were both amazing. It was emotional. And I have no connection to WV except that I drove there for a concert. 🙂

You should check out their rendition of "How Great Thou Art". You'll get to hear great harmonies as well as each member has at least one solo. No percussion or beatboxing. Just five beautiful voices. The bass is Tim Foust and he has a 5-octave range and the baritone Adam Chance has a 4-octave range. For the most amazing blend of voices, I've ever heard check out their cover of Helpless Hoping" it will blow you away. Rob Lundquist is the tenor but can go rather deep also. He is the one with the glasses and full beard and voice like butter. Adam Rupp is their beatboxer/vocal percussionist extraordinaire. Austin Brown is the high tenor and is amazing. Austin has recently left the band and was replaced by Adam Bastien aka Bastien due to the fact that there are now three Adams in the band. Tim has blown out the speakers a many concerts. Check out Tim Blows The Speakers. I suggest "Elvira" sang with the original group The Oakridge Boys to hear a bass off. As for funny and surprising videos I'd suggest "The Butts Remis/Medley" and "Full Of Cheer". Have fun. Have yourself a Merry Christmas.

I think this is a much better intro to them than Man of Constant Sorrow. It has great dynamics, lovely harmonies, lots of exposure for each voice - an all-around perfect intro.
Their official video list stands at 197, but there are also some lovely tracks from their albums that do not have videos. Nearly any genre you can name. All excellently done.
As for Geoff vs Tim - sort of a toss up, but personally I prefer Tim. I think they have comparable ranges, I know Tim's is 5+ octaves and excellent as any place in there. Check out his do-wop album, maybe In My Room, or Why Do Fools Fall in Love?. He has been doing 'stairwell shorts' with Peter Barber, Bobby Bass, and Big Brev - really stir your bass loving bones!

When he hits those Low notes , you feel them in your chest ! Tim also has solo album called Pieces of Me where sings all the parts himself . Plus Adam Rupp Has about a 10 min solo live !
You expect a decent group to do a good version of a song you like, as I do this one. However, these guys do versions of songs I find annoying that are spectacular and which I listen to frequently. I am thinking specifically of Do You Hear What I hear? and Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.
The guys also have collaborations with the original artists that are remarkable. They were sought out by Kenny Rogers and they did Children Go Where I Send Thee. They have done both American Pie and Vincent with Don McLean, as well as backing him on his new song American Boys. They did a spectacular version of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the Singing Sergeants of the US Air Force band. They did Don't Laugh at Me with Mark Wills. They did One Voice with Billy Gilman.
Tim Foust has coached Geoff in developing his bass capabilities, and Geoff has done at least one arrangement that I know of for Home Free.

Their arrangements are sensationally good and they own the presentation in a new way that just wow you!!! They simply take a cover and make it new and make it better every time. ❣
