He wasn't just a country singer, he was/is a legend.
Thank you for your delightful reaction to John Denver singing Take Me Home, Country Roads. We lost John in an airplane accident on 12th October 1997, aged 53 years old. He was a popular singer of folk, country and pop songs and a prolific songwriter, and also an actor, a noted environmentalist and world hunger activist and humanitarian beginning in the 1970s. His career saw him record some 300 songs, of which 200 were written by himself. His sales brought him several gold record successes, while his Greatest Hits album has gone multi platinum.
He had suffered lean times in the musivc industry through the last decade of his life, but there was a time in the mid 1970s when he was the No 1 top selling recording artist in the world, He sold millions of records around the world in 1974 qnd 1975, scoring hit after hit which made him a huge star. The song that you have reacted to has been honoured by being chosen as a state song for West Virginia. That honour has also been awared to another of his amazing songs Rocky Mountain High, which is a state song for Colorado. Other great songs include Leaving On A Jet Plane, Sunshine On My Shoulders, Sweet Surrender, I'm Sorry, Annie's Song, Fly Away and Back Home Again.
John was the best selling soloist in the 1970's. yes we still listen to him...
the best soloist in the 70s? Is that a fact? Over singers like Elton John or Olivia Newton John?
@@jackprescott9652He sold more records in the 70's than anyone else. Simple fact.
AND SONG WRITER AND SINGER AND ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL PERSON
John Denver is one of those rare artists whose music appeals to anyone no matter of race, creed or culture. I've watched people from Canada, Russia, Sweden, Nigeria, and others react to his music and all have similar reactions as yours. Good music is just good music no matter who you are or where your from.
Many gen X in my country knew this song. This song always played on radio
Thank you so much for reacting to this song. To us West Virginians, that song means so much !
John Denver was environmentalist who sang and wrote songs about nature and donated time and money to protect nature ✌️❤️
Reminds me of Kodiak Alaska where i was raised in the 60s and 70s 65 to 77 Thank u John Denver and Lord Jesus christ my Creator and REDEEMER
John is, and was an Icon! He’s not Country, he’s his own genre! 😎🐎🤠👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
John Denver has a large catalog of music. He was a great showman and performed in lots of intimate settings. His voice was amazing. A few of his songs are Rocky Mountain High, Annie’s Song, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Sunshine on my Shoulders. Check him out again. Nice reaction.
It was a major blow hearing he died. loved his music, even when it came out. it was playing on the rock stations as well as the country stations.
John Denver is an amazing artist I would also recommend Rocky Mountain High from him as well
I would also suggest Calypso
Yes definitely Rocky Mountain High. His unique voice has the ability to elevate you and captivate you into a fluid musical painting full of colorful details and beauty.
@@jasonhager524 I love Calypso. It is fantastic
Rocky Mountain High
70s baby
John Denver was an American country and folk singer who had a great many hits like this one. He had millions of fans around the world. Unfortunately, he died in the late 90's or early 2000's in an experimental plane crash. He is still missed by millions of fans world wide.
As a person born and growing up in West Virginia , makes me happy to see you enjoying that song.
Thanks! Another reaction I missed. This is the music my parents listened to when i was a kid. Brings back happy memories, but makes me a little melancholic. It is beautiful folk music, glad you liked it so much.
Every John Denver song is awesome 👌
Yes!
"Country Roads" is one of the iconic anthems of the Country and Western genre. Another song by John Denver, "Annie's Song", was voted as one of the best love songs of all time. Take a moment and check that song out.
Denver's songs are put into a unique category of music most accurately described as "Americana"-not quite country nor pop, but more
about the American experience, if you will.
Awe he’s so adorable and so are you thank you for wonderful reactions
Your dog trying to be the centre of attention was killing me😂
I'm 61 his man was a big part of my life in the 70's
IM 63 SUCH A SPECIAL PERSON PERIOD
He was such a great Performer and Individual it’s been years since I’ve listened to him and I’m crying..what a voice
Song was written by Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, who performed as Fat City. Denver helped finish the song. Danoff and Nivert (they were married) later found success as part of the Starland Vocal Band.
Still have a huge crush on her and her background vocals on this song are unmatched.
Your dog was really getting into the music! He knows good music.
To give you an idea of the level of John Denver's writing, Take me Home is the official song of West Virginia, Rocky Mountain High is the official song of Colorado. One songwriter who had his music adopted as the official song for not one, but two US states.
West Virginia Hills is the official state song though Country Roads has been adopted by the state for ads and functions of state. "Oh the West Virginia hills how majestic and how grand..." In jr. High my choir did a country show with both songs and a few others incuding farmer tan and I like country music. We would have scored much better if one of 3 judges didn't totally miss a point we where making. She marked off for our diction when we purposely did a stereotype hillbilly tone in the show. Hard R's and nasal, our other choir won superior ranking and I ran lights for them. Our program was large enough to support multiple groups, all together over 200 and closer to 300 while I was there.
I live in Texas now but was born in W.V. and everytime i hear this song it reminds me when i was a kid livin up in the hills.😊
My favorite reaction of yours so far! You are always beautiful and sincere, but I loved your tender reaction to "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Thank you so much!
I would say it is as country as John Denver gets by in large he is folk singer
The Windsong album is pretty C&W, too.
Yes. Sadly, John Denver was not well received by the country music industry (Nashville) at the time.
In the movie Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Merlin was Scottish. The Scots have adopted this song as one of there anthems. That’s why Merlin was sing Take Me Home Country Roads.
Hi Irina. Just watched your video with John Denver. I live in West Virginia. That song is our state theme song. We are known as the mountaineers. He had many popular songs in the 70s and 80s. Sadly he passed in a plane crash. Watch a WVU college football home game. The whole stadium will sing that song during the game. Pretty cool!!
Very cool! It's the best part of the Mountaineer game! I'm from West Virginia, too.
@@kristinanne6534 hi mom lol
@@kristinanne6534 hi aunt
Great reaction! I'm From West Virginia. The song became a West Virginia theme song. Really plucks at my heart strings! Try reacting to Thank God I'm A Country Boy by John Denver.
I grew up Listening to John Denver...I think i love every song :)
Hearing the «Джентльмены» word in russian was so cute. Just through the heart 😀
You are sweet person….loving such beautiful music….and being touched by it. You have a good heart.
The lady harmonizing with John on this song makes it extra beautiful.
That is Taffy Nivert of Starland Vocal Band fame.
I really enjoy this song. It's nice and laid back. You can just relax and enjoy it. Great reaction Irina!
My 15 year old has ALWAYS loved John
Spoke in front of Congress and said the U.S. has no right to censor music. Now that's what I call a freedom fighter
Glad you liked it, yes, we've been listening to and singing John Denver songs for 50 years or so. This one is pretty well known. Try watching 70,000 fans sing Country Roads here on UA-cam.
He had a great voice.
I think he is the greatest singer n writer in oldschool country.
My favorite country song of all time!
I’m happy to listen to it
He was amazing. Listen to more of his music.
Very few songs touch me like this song, my Dads family is from West Virginia, I spent some summers up in those mountains. Their all gone now, its just a faded memory.
This is one of those songs that bring you back to simpler times. It's just to feel good song. 😊
His music has always been recognized as Folk, Soft Rock, and Country music. He has always had great music, beautiful lyrics, and the perfect vocals to go with it. Another great song song you should listen to is Rocky Mountain High. It will probably bring tears to your eyes just like Country Roads. Great song, great singer, and great writer.
Actually kind of a "hybrid" of the three-referred to as "Americana".
That dog is awesome. Don't feel bad. A lot of people cry when they here this genius of folk music
John Denver has *lots* of hit songs. This song is really for anyone who is away from home. Or even maybe at home. Lots of recommendations below. I'll recommend "Thank God I'm A Country Boy."
This song is one of many oldies but goodies.
What u mean is that you love and appreciate his song and how awesome his voice is..right?
I love you’re reaction Irina when you realize how amazing this song is. Your eyes looked amazing in aww.
An outstanding song with a similar longing for home theme is James Taylor's Carolina On My Mind.
Carolina In My Mind
I'm actually from West Virginia. So proud of this song.
This song takes me back to my youth. I lived in Detroit and had my summer vacations down south at my grandmothers place in Alabama and this song reminds me of those days :)
This is timeless and true John Denver music.
My home state. ❤❤❤
Thats where i live and from. Nothing like it in the world. Glad u enjoyed the song
John was the first American artist to go and perform in Russia as the Cold War was dying down. He did the same in China. Beautiful heartfelt reaction.
I'm from west Virginia and this song is played after every win in sports, and my home state truly is almost heaven
Can I assume from you not capitalizing west that you mean WESTERN Virginia? I read online that he was actually singing about WESTERN Virginia, and not WEST Virginia.
This song is so nostalgic! I enjoyed it in the Kingsman movies as well!
As someone who grew up in Colorado, loved John Denver & his music, and moved back here over 10 years ago now, it's good to see someone not of America react to this incredible talent, and get you're perspective. Although, if you continue listening to him? I think you'll find he doesn't have much in common with the movie Kingsman", as you might think, lol. Except for the comedy. John was a very funny guy. Naturally, actually? Because he was just such a good, clean, wholesome guy... *screeeeech!!* ... people gonna freak I said that- except that he WAS that way, when it came to his music. Personal life aside? The man was a brilliant artist, songwriter, actor, and vocalist- He always kept his music clean.
And this ended up being a pretty big problem for him in his music career, because.. what they call real musicians"? Wouldn't give him his due as an artist. Because they were imbeciles to the man. Seriously- instead of just accepting the man for his pure, raw, natural talent, they got bent, because he wanted to keep his music clean for ALL to enjoy. He didn't want, NOR did he need, an "edge" to his music. He was THAT good- he didn't have to have it.
As a musician myself, I actually got the chance to tell him that once. I've no idea if it took or not, but I doubt it. He really did always seek the validation from those HE admired, as we all do. They should have given it to him, BEFORE he died.
What you really should do, when it comes to John Denver? Listen first, to his incredible voice. Maybe THE best male vocalist I've ever heard, certainly in the top two. His voice is pure, his vibrato is rich, and he can hold a note longer than just about anyone. Some called him an "environmentalist". That actually makes him seem like those people who are obsessed and out-of-control stupid, in regards to how they respond to our environment.
That was NOT John Denver. He LOVED nature, the outdoors, the creatures that inhabit this earth, and the FREEDOM they both represent, & enjoy. And you'd have to, to write with the love about these things, that he had.
If you want a really good selection of songs to listen to, to get the variety of just who John Denver was? Try these: "Rocky Mountain High", (seen mentioned several times), "Annie's Song", "This old Guitar", "Poems, Prayers, & Promises", Calypso, (his love of the ocean, and of the old Jacques Cousteau adventures, where he actually got to go out on the ship, "The Calypso", come through so strongly here, and his vocals are 2nd to none)...
... And last, but not least, (and there are SO many others), one of my personal favorites, that I play myself, "Rhymes & Reasons".
These are just to get you started, and to give you a real sense of the man. "Grandma's Feather Bed", which he eventually did one night on "The Muppets", show his comedy side. Also, his movie "Oh God!", with George Burns? You just might want to do a review of that, as well. I think you'll really love it.
Enjoy your reactions, and will be looking forward to more in the future.
John Denver is a treasure trove of soul singing music! Rocky Mountain High will make you soar like an eagle 😉 and would make a great follow up to this one. Annie's Song also, and MANY more!
Had to drop a like for the Mark Strong rendition in Kingsmen reference. Absolutely amazing scene in modern cinema.
My parents brought me up on John Denver. He has a huge catalog and almost every song is amazing!
A young workmate was singing this song. I was surprised a youngster knew all the words, and he said he does because it's a classic. I asked him if he knew the singer. He said he did but couldn't remember. I gave him a hint. _"His first name is John."_ He had no idea. _"His last name is a capital city in the United States."_ Still no idea. _"It's the capital of Colorado."_ Still had no idea. _"It starts with 'D'."_ He yells out...
*_"DETROIT!!"_*
Detroit is my favorite state in Colorado.
OMGOSH! LOL!!
You can't help but be deeply moved by John Denver's songs. When he first came on the scene, his songs were so fresh, different, and I felt like I was soaring through the sky every time I heard his songs. Everyone liked him. Glad you love his music.
John Denver’s music is so great he passed to soon. This is blue grassy/ American folk it’s a favorite everywhere. Check out Rocky Mountain High another all time great.
❤ My first JD love was LEAVING ON A JET PLANE. My favorite waltz, ANNIE'S SONG. West Virginia football crowd COUNTRY ROADS sung by thousands. Hug Montana
God bless you young lady!
thank you
You will love Annie’s Song, which John Denver wrote for his wife. Greatest love song ever written.
As others have suggested, you'd probably love "Rocky Mountain High" and "Annie's Song".
John was such a wonderful prolific writer and singer. Mary Travers of Peter Paul and Mary once said that John would fill you with joy if he sang the Phone Book, because he would have sang it joyfully. I hope you'll listen to more of John's music such as Leaving on a Jet Plane, Rocky Mountain High and Sunshine on my Shoulders......and so much more:) John wasn't really a "Country Music" performer, he was more of a Folk Singer, Singer Songwriter. His dad was a Country and Western Music Fan and John wrote some Country style songs with his dad in mind. John was an enormous advocate for the Environment at a time when that wasn't at all popular or the accepted norm. He was truly the spirit of joy and one of the biggest stars of the 1970's, sorely sorely missed.
Great song,, Thanks sweet lady !
John Denver’s music is so beautiful and appeals to everyone. So happy to see your reaction. Keep listening to him.🙂
Very nice to be here to see you discover a legend. 😊

So much fun watching you get carried away by this song... West Virginia is a beautiful state, if you'd have visited it, you'd be even MORE carried away.. you'd have a point of reference... REALLY great reaction 🤠🤠🤠. Peace!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Leaving on a jet plane is my favorite by him.
I love your reaction to this beautiful song! I am from the Shenandoah Valley and this song touches my heart!
When i hear John Denver, i think everytime about the movie Final Destination!🤣🤣🤣
John Denver has and always will be one of my favorite singers of all time. It was his music that made me fall in love with Country & Folk, and my family has a tradition of putting on his music when we go on long road trips. May he rest in peace.
John Denver is a country music singer his music is very down-to-earth he always really liked the outdoors nature that's where he felt most comfortable
This song when sang by John Denver,is one song that crawls deep into your heart and soul and never leaves.
Makes me waht a home.I've never really had one.

**Wish I could get through this song without dropping a tear or two.**
We always love our homes, mothers, friends. Where are hearts abide forever.
Im a old cowboy from Texas.
Glad you liked this fantastic story!!
Annie's song
Everyone can relate to John Denver. "Back Home Again" is equally as great.
you are so beautiful and i enjoy your real and emotional reactions.
Amen!!!
Irina, I agree with others here ... almost anything by John Denver is good!
Since my Mom's always been a _huge_ JD fan, I grew up listening to him. Ended up liking him a *lot,* partially because my voice was just right - usually - for singing his songs! Plus, I grew to realize that his songs, especially about favorite places/things (like this one & _"Rocky Mountain High"_ & a couple others), really grabbed my heart! I fondly remember my Mom convincing my step-father to go to a John Denver concert (as a family!), when I was 13 or 14 (?) years old! I loved it *so much!*
And I've heard many people say that this song is about yearning for home, _wherever_ it may be. So when you're feeling nostalgic, and wish you could visit your old home/people ... *this* is _your_ song, then!
If you have a chance to get his 'Greatest Hits' album, get it. I'll bet you'll find _several_ songs there that you will *love!*
*Enjoy!*
P.S. - I think his greatest hits album might actually have the title, 'The Essential John Denver'.
Thank you so much for your beautiful comments. I truly appreciate you sharing with us
this song is funny in that he's singing about West Virginia, but everyone everywhere thinks about their own 'home' wherever that may be. The feeling of longing to 'go back' is universal.
Yes! Rocky Mountain High!
A classic of country music, excellent theme, greetings from Argentina 👍👍👍
My late father would play John Denver's "Home grown Tomatoes" to his tomatoe plants...
Dad claimed the tomatoes grew faster, stronger.
Definitely just run through his greatest hits album each song is perfect
ANYTHING JOHN DENVER!!!!
I'm from West Virginia and know this one by heart, West Virginia University plays this at home games after winning and the crowd sings along, he sang it live to open the new stadium back in 1980, crowd as loud.
Find more John Denver you will cry many many more tears. Great vocalist
There so much beautiful music in the world. The greatest eras for the start of the rock era are the 60's, 70's and 80's, no other time compares. The music of these decades is just so new and fresh. Check out everything you can access to.
John sang and released a song, with a fellow countryman of yours, Alecksander Gradsky. Let Us Begin, What Are We Making Weapons For. You might want to take a listen, live version best. John was an environmentalist, humanitarian and philanthropist. Also was the first US entertainer to have public performances in USSR after many years, he was the catalyst for the US/ USSR Cultural exchange to begin again.
Wow honey your reaction takes me back.
