I grew up listening to John Denver's songs. But I feel Home Free took this one to another level for me. It is one of my favorite covers of this song. I love everything about it. It is a masterpiece.

Between his outstanding beatboxing and drums right out of the gate, he's got multiple solos on "no-monica" (and apparently electric guitar!) that'll blow your mind! 🤯 The pace of this song will leave you gasping for air. John Denver's version is obviously the classic. Chance's version with Peter Hollens is lovely and has a modern feel. But Home Free's version is still my family's favorite--hands down!

John Denver gets tagged as a country artist these days, but in his prime he was more on the folk/pop/soft rock spectrum. But his songs have been covered by singers of all genres. He was a multi-faceted artist too - he acted, and had several TV appearances. Loved his work with the Muppets, too.

Always love Home Free. Chance did this song with Peter Hollens too. Chance had two songs premiere yesterday on UA-cam and then got hit with a positive virus result. The guys are going to finish out the Canadian shows as a quartet while Chance is in quarantine. Sending best wishes to Chance.

@@ThatSingerReactions Peter and Chance were nominated for best country Acapella song of 2021 by Contemporary Acapella Recording Awards for their version of this. They lost out to another duo...Tim Foust and Chris Rupp for Long Black Train. The winners were announced this past weekend.

Wow never thought I’d like anyone singing this but John. I was 14 when he came to Australia and I got to see him 3 times because my brother and sister worked at the regent theatre in Sydney . Wow these guys are brilliant harmonisers xoxox

Because this is such an iconic countrysong it actually took the guys over 5 years before they felt it was ready . I listened to this one in my teens in Denmark so yes John Denver is FAMOUS

My friend, you need to listen to John Denver sing Annie's Song live. It's near perfection. He was a brilliant singer/songwriter with a clear, beautiful tenor.
If you haven't heard the original, check it out just to appreciate the arrangement they came up with. The original is fun and kind of bouncy... but HF's version is so melodic. Crazy good! Both versions.

Nick, glad you finally got to see & hear this one. The story I heard was they sat on this arrangement and piqued it for nearly 6 years until they recorded it. They felt that their sound with Chance (and not Chris) was best for this one, and I think they were right, It was one of only three covers on the Dive Bar Saints album, which was released in Sept 2019, just 6 months before the 1st Covid lockdown. By the way keep good thoughts for Chance who is stuck in Winnepeg, Manitoba because of testing positive for covid, and so far has only shown mild symptoms and is being taken care of very well.

John Denver has been dead a while now, but he was part of my childhood. I'm 50 this year, and have super fond memories of him. He was truly a sweet, kind-hearted man. If you want a bit of a good time, check out his appearance on the original Muppet show. Heck, if you want a REALLY good time, check out PRINCE'S appearance on the muppet show.

John Denver's song is a really faster tempo and sounds very country. Home Free slowed it down and added some soul into it and I like their version of the song better showing their harmonies and everything, you can feel the longing for going home to W. Virginia. I'm not from there but they got me wanting to go home to W. Virginia.😄
Our boys had been asked many times to do this song but it is such a well known and well loved song, they held off doing it until they figured out an arrangement that was perfect. And they did it justice! Other than John Denver's original, this is my favorite version. ( Not kidding about the song being well loved...you can hear it being sung by crowds at soccer matches, which so cool to hear!)

Home Free magic makes yet another song their own. They took a really good song and made it extraordinary. Nothing new, it's what we have come to expect from our guys. Every solo was perfection, every harmony soared and Adam's beat boxing was stellar as usual.

My favorite John Denver song is Grandmas Feather bed. My husband, kids and I would sing his songs on road trips. Loved those times.
This is one of the songs I would sing while walking with my son...we didn't have a car and music made the trekking go faster...that was 40 years ago...🌿🌿🌿
The best thing about this song for them in particular is that every single part is in their individual sweet spots. The song just lives in the most comfortable range for each of them and you cannot get better than that for a group like them. They can’t go wrong. (Also Chance just released a song on his channel with Fox and Hound. Please watch even if just for yourself).

I’m 61 years old. I heard the original many times. This looks s literally 100 times better than the original.
Well I’m gonna be 60 in March, but if you are around in the mid 70s even the early 70s John Denver was everywhere. He’s like a square that became popular. The later in the 80s, he came out with some great stuff.
It’s in my Top 5 HF songs as well. I am always excited to see your HF reactions and love the absolute delight and awe as you do so. It mirrors how most of us feel and not only do their songs and amazing arrangements make me smile but your reactions always do too!

John Denver really wasn't a country artist per se.
Yes, he sang a few country songs but he was more of a folk/pop singer. He got his start with the New Christy Minstrels way back in the day - way back.
John was enormously popular in the mid to late 60s and had his own tv show.
His biggest song was Rocky Mountain High - which was a huge hit.

John Denver didn't write his first hit record, "Take Me Home." The first hit song he wrote was "Leaving On a Jet Plane," recorded by Peter Paul and Mary.
Don't know if you are holding off on doing Christmas songs until closer to Christmas but I donated for Home Free - Joy to the World (Hosanna Concert) before last Christmas and have reminded you several times (per your request) and still nothing. I think you are going to love it as Gospel Rob takes the lead on this unique and funky arrangement of a Christmas classic.
