"Your daily work brings you closer and closer to the warp, increases your understanding of orderless powers. Gradually, without noticing it, even the most puritanical and rod-stiff inquisitor becomes seduced... The first step is the knowledge. An inquisitor must understand the basic traits of Chaos in order to fight it. In a few years, he knows more about the warp than most untutored cultists. Then the second step: the moment he breaks the rules and allows some aspect of Chaos to survive or remain so that he can study it and learn from it... The third step... the third step is the line itself. When the inquisitor becomes a radical. When he chooses to use Chaos against Chaos. When he employs the agencies of the warp. When he asks the heretical for help... So... are you going to ask me to help you?" -Pontius Glaw on the day that Gregor Eisenhorn began to lose sight of where the line may be. Malleus, Chapter 20.
He’s a character who has every opportunity to become a monster and somehow persists in not being one. He make mistakes and takes things too far but he’s not devoid of compassion and he is capable of redeeming himself
The image I've got in my head from listening to this; is not a tapestry, but more of a family tree or spider's web of Eisenhorn's life. Moments of intrigue, investigation and other detective stuff, leading to imperial justice, or inquisitorial matters in constant web of events. I can't put a conclusive end to the image in my head, but damn this is good work. Well done, OfficioAudiorum.
@@OfficioAudiorum This is just a habit of mine. When I hear a music tune or a theme, I instantly think of an image, or associate an image with what I see. Like the opening music in Helsreach in part 1; when I hear it, I think, "Helsreach! - Grimaldus! X3"
i feel like the comming Eisenhorn TV-series needs this piece at some point. though esspecially after i read the last book Magos i feel like this piece of musik needs a bit more lets call it unbreakableness a bit more reseblence of Eisenhorns Iron will (this last thing is funny becaus Eisen means Iron in German)
Eisenhorn as sort of a detective in space, so I like the film noir quality you gave this theme, with the pensive piano, inquisitive strings, and the plodding bass like an inevitable doom getting closer and closer. “Iron Hoof.” It’s sad and mysterious and quietly menacing, but somehow still gentle under all of that. I wish we’d gotten a saxophone, just to complete the noir ambiance but the identifiable themes and increasing strangeness as it nears its climax is the character all the way through.
(Sorry for my English. It's a Google translate) Subscribed to this wonderful channel recently. But after listening to some of the tracks, I got an aesthetic orgasm. And just after reading Eisenhorn, UA-cam recommended this track to me as well. This composition clearly shows the entire life of Eisenhorn. There is a flat line in the first half, which I think reflects Gregor's personality before he made a deal with Pontius. Yes, not everything was in order, but the inquisitor was true to his principles. While the second part is more alarming and vague, which evokes longing about how Eisenhorn began to use xenotech, and even more so he called on the demonhost and took the path of a radical reluctantly.

Malleus, Chapter 20.
I like him for being more level-headed people from 40k
Except, he is also pretty grimdark at times, doing stuff, that is... kind of fucked up.
He's a perfect example that level headed people often do the most fucked up shit as long as the conditions are right.

One of the best stories of all time! This brought back memories from all 3 books and it got me to start reading the omnibus again.

His name meaning “iron” actually makes a lot of sense.
