  • In this video you will see how I clean my traps every few years in order to get a hard reset on the trap. To start over with bare metal and get a cleaner look to them when dying and waxing. This also helps free the trap of debris which in return help the trap go off smoother and faster. Let me know how you clean your traps in the comment section below!!!

If you want to get the exact 1 gallon vinegar to 3 gallons of water in a five gallon bucket, do this: pour the 1 gallon of vinegar into the five gallon bucket, take the empty jug and fill it with water and put the cap on, then put that jug into the 5 gallon bucket, now fill the 5 gallon bucket to the top with water. Pull out the 1 gallon jug and voilà (vwä-lä′), you have the perfect 4 gallon mixture. Quick and easy.

I use a half gallon of hydrochloric acid to 5 gallons of water. Slash of dawn dish soap. 30 minutes to an hour later they are usually bare metal. Acid is extremely corrosive so I like to drop them in a baking soda water solution for a few minutes to neutralize the acid.
Wanted to ask if you could do a “lessons learned” type video of what you have done to help increase your success or things you wasted time on. I always enjoy watching. Thanks.

Use a more concentrated mixture of your white vinegar, power wash them, hang them up for a few days to get a little surface rust, then I dip mine in in Full Metal Jacket and allow them to dry. I like to put a couple good coats of the Full Metal Jacket, allowing it to completely dry between coats.
    Great Trap Dip !! 🤗

I soak them in straight vinegar over night then pressure wash when i need to redo mine and get them really clean. But my favorite way to prep my traps is to paint them. I do 1 coat of primer then 2 coats of paint then i dip them twice in Zeps floor polish. I only had to dip them the last 3 years but this year im going to repaint them. Enjoyed it sir!!

I just cleaned my traps doing this, but I went with a 2-1 water vinegar mix. Let it sit for 3 days and pressure washed, looked like new traps when completed!

I read in a book that you can boil them in water and drano to clean them because drano has lye in it I was going to try that method but haven't yet

Try muratic acid just a couple don't need to stand there very long don't breathe the fumes then dip them in water and baking soda to neutralize it to neutralize it I think you would like it a lot faster give it a shot try couple traps

I normally do the same process you just showed us. I did try something different the last couple years and that is after you pressure wash them, boil them in battle born. It worked as good as soaking in vinegar. I guess it depends on personal preference. I’m definitely an expert so I still like trying different methods.

I don’t trap to the extent you do so not as many traps. As I pull them I put them in a 30 gallon barrel of water and soap in the bed of the truck. The bouncing around gets the dirt and clay off them. Rinse them off. Soak in 50/50 water and vinegar or go to the hardware store and get the 30% vinegar, dilute accordingly. Stronger the vinegar solution the less time it will take. It will literally eat the traps/weaken the springs, if left too long. Usually only takes 24 hours of soaking then pressure wash to get the vinegar and remaining residue off. Let dry and dip in thinned paint solution or allow a small amount of surface rust to develop and dye. I have used purple power to soak them in and it works pretty well, it has to be left pretty strong.
