Several times in the past couple of years when I've tried to have a mobile wash done they wanted $400+ to wash ans wax. They refused to do just a wash. The most recent was yesterday here at the Anchor Down RV Resort where there was a mobile wash service working on several coaches and they said they don't do just a wash. It was $400 and I wasn't impressed at all how they were doing their detailing. I keep my coach waxed and don't need it waxed again when I'm traveling. Just because one day it rains while your driving doesn't mean I have to have it waxed again. When I was able to just get it washed its always been in the $130 to $140 range. That's what the guys charged that came into the Oasis in Las Vegas charged and they did a great job. Gave them a nice tip for that. BTW, it would be interested to know what these guys are expecting to be tipped now days as well.

In Palm Beach, FL, I just had my 2018 Tiffin Allegro Bus 40Sp detailed this week and deep cleaned inside as I was putting it up for sale. 2 people were on the inside for 6 hours! and 2 on the outside for 5 hours. It is gleaming! I paid $875 plus tip! It is now on the market! The one I bought through your video!

I am a fan of ceramic coatings, I apply them myself. They are easy to apply and maintain if you have a shop to work in. The most effort is power polishing the clear coat to a shine before applying them.

Actually bought 3 bottles of a very well known brand of ceramic coatings and I held off for a year because of weather.
Over those winter months I kept reading more and more about ceramic coatings and the upkeep and costs and decided not to do my car.
I polish my own vehicles and actually enjoy doing so and always have I just keep learning about new products and do my homework.
My most recent are products that are used quite often in the private jet markets and they swear by the toughness and durability of them.
Including tire dressings that do not leave a shine just nourishes the rubber and protects against the harsh UV's.

In DFW Texas we use our dealership for wash and wax. 225 for wash and wax is about 900. We also use a mobile detailer and he is the only one I trust. We pay him 400 for the wash that includes tip. This is on a 45 foot coach. We have used many mobile detailers nationwide in our travels and like Andrew said, no two washes are the same. Our best wash and wax is always at LVM in Las Vegas. Generally, the best washes are in motorcoach resorts.

I hired a company once to wash my 44' Newmar Dutch Star and overpaid. Worse, I was very dissatisfied with the result, I probably won't hire an RV detailer again based on that experience. I wash every vehicle ONLY with a deionizing filter and test the water prior to using it. Not doing so is worse than not washing it at all, as hard water spots require a huge amount of labor to remove. I'm 72 years old and very picky. After hand washing with a microfiber mitt (and a lot of up and down on a ladder), I then use Aero Cosmetics Wash Wax All and apply it to the exterior. Occasionally I will fire up the random orbital buffer and put on some polymer wax. From all of my research, ceramic wax is a marketing gimmick and not worth the cost. I agree, Andrew, I can do many wax jobs for the cost of one ceramic coating, and it looks just as good!

I have had two of my cars done with ceramic coating. For the high dollar it cost to do a motorhome I don’t believe is worth it. I rather keep it waxed once or twice a year.

TDS....Total Dissolved Solids, not Solvent. :) Just fyi...a conductivity meter will also work. In fact, the TDS meter is measuring conductivity and converting to TDS.

Andrew have you ever try Graphene coatings, I switched from Ceramic to Graphene 4 years ago and love it. Once you do the paint correction Graphene is a very easy product to apply. There is different levels of Graphene products like Ceramic. Coach and 3 other vehicles all have Graphene on then. Just my two cents….

I have a 2020 newmar London Aire and wash it myself. The newmar manual says that they don’t endorse any form of washing different from a hand wash with a sponge, including the brushes like those sold in camping world. It says that they don’t recommend throwing directly with a water pressure to protect the paint; they say spraying low pressure water sideways, not directly. I use the shower or the fanning setting of my hose nozzle. Do pressure only underbody to remove dirt. I do send water pressure through the holes of the Alcoa rims to remove black break dust. However, they recommend using an airplane brush that has fine hairs including on the sides. They say that for hard water you alter the chemistry by adding 1 cup of vinegar per bucket of water and soap wash & wax, the rinsing does not leave hard water marks. I do that pinky wax and wax product from camping world. I use a drying towel and a pole having a long squeegee attached to dry, I only climb on a 6 feet foldable scaffold I bought at Lowe’s to reach the high edges. Just do up and down drying with pole, squeegee and towel. I wax with normal car wax by hand, first do all around I can reach from the ground, then I do climb the scaffold for the high areas. I climb to clean the roof with a blower to blow away dust, and 2 wet towels, I protect my knees with knee pads and do the roof by hand; then I clean the air conditioner covers and antennas with the uv protecting solution. I recommend staying away from soaps that are labeled ceramic; I had to wax the coach entirely one time because it left very hard to clean white stripes in the coach. When I’m washing with soap, I clean and dry at the same time, dividing the coach into 6 parts: 1/2 way each side, front and back. I never wash the whole coach with soap leaving water to dry out by itself. As soon as one area is cleaned, I dry it and leave it neat, ready to attack the next dirty area. With practice it should take you 2 hours to wash the entire unit like that, plus 1 day waxing. Never try to do it in 1 day all, it will kill you if you are alone like me. I advice using the drying cloth wet with only water after you have driven for a day without raining, use the pole to reach the tall areas. I’m a freak of high maintenance, so I even do that while refueling, of course I get out of the way if a semi is waiting for me to leave. It actually helps as a small workout when driving long distance. Dusting off the coach from the road trip at least half way down the area reachable from the ground by the hands while refueling is relaxing your muscles. That’s the area that gets dusty while riding, not much 1/2 way up, leave that for the RV park when you get there. I suppose this is a work that may cost easy $500 for a tag axle coach.

Not sure what ceramic coatings you used before, but now they last 3-5 yrs and usually 1 maintenance wash once a year. Will far out last wax as most wax will only last 30-45 days and offers no protection like ceramic coatings. Yes, it is more expensive in the outlay of money but when you break it down over years it will last it is far cheaper.

I have noticed a trend where more companies don’t want to wash the roof at all or want to charge extra. Did not see this when we started full timing almost 6 years ago. Do you know what is the reluctance to do the roof? It doesn’t make sense to me to have your RV detailed without doing the roof. Any thoughts?

@@kingdavidcoffee De-ionized water is spot free and thus does not require drying off the coach. That is how I understand it. Yes, once your unit gets rained on it will still spot. I guess ceramic coating and wax will help in that regard.

Ceramic coatings are really nice, and effective. BUT Do it yourselfers beware...the one thing i cannot emphasize enough, be sure you wipe it all completely off within the proper time frame. I paid a pretty dollar at one of SRQ's exotic specialists, they missed a 3 inch patch on the hood, of all places. I didnt see it until the following day. That was 2 years ago, the hood on the BMW is forever FUBAR in that one spot. It's a dark color so that makes it even worse, left a faint milky discoloration. I've had it detailed to remove it and it's annoyingly still there. It might outlast my car....
