"Can we just get an N64 package?" we sadly won't due to the community incorrectly calling them bad to this day. You even see negative comments on defense videos, and it starts to feel like it's some peoples' personal mission to keep the dated AVGN mentality alive (even though he's has terrible takes regarding the series). End of the day, they Sims bag back then and have a negative rep these days. Outside Switch Online, where Konami wouldn't have to put effort into it, I don't think we'll the 64s officially rereleased.
Excellent review; I really like how you compare all the different Castlevanias! It's refreshing to see someone who appreciates video games and not be dismissive calling older games "dated" or the typical "This still looks good after all these years" as it's so common on UA-cam. Video games are art, not a computer operating system that gets "outdated" once there's a newer version. I'd also love to see a compilation with both N64 games + Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP + GBA and all the computers ports of the first game: MSX, Commodore 64, and Amiga 500. Note: The original Famicom Castlevania was included in Castlevania Anniversary Collection. The Famicom version of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest was the only Japanese game for that console not included in this compilation.
The original is my favorite entry in the series too. The crazy thing about the Famicom disk system Castlevania is that in Japan it isn't even very expensive. The retro gaming scene over here is obscenely cheap compared to the States. I've been looking for a complete copy for a while, but you can find the disk alone for like $10
You're really selling me on the original version lol. Especially on those cutscenes. While I like the bargain bin CG look, it looks so much worse than the original. Especially at 4:02. Man. Also gotta say the music seems to pop more as well.
I get a kick out of EXTREMELY cheap CG from that era. This is just bland and sterile. It's not bad enough to laugh at. Yeah, I prefer the original music as well. It has teeth!
Nice video!!! Also by any chance do you know a way to download this game on the vita? For some reason i get a error when i try to download the game from my ps3.. i already got the game download on another 29gb memory card but i wanted to have all my games on my 64gb, same thing with Metal gear solid😅.
Thank you. I'm not sure about the Vita thing. I've had it downloaded for years. Similar things have happened to me though. I had the same problem with Dracula X Chronicles. Maybe someone else will comment with a solution because I love that tiny little device.
@3:44 agreed. Transitions between CGI and a game engine can be so immersion-breaking, and the dichotomy gets even worse the further back one goes. The OG at least felt like one complete package. (The original x68000 version of Castlevania Chronicles also had at least 3 different soundtracks for it, dependent on the sound card at the time... and they're ALL kinda awesome in their own right)
I love your videos more than oxygen, even if I can now never forgive you for making me think of Slim Jims whenever I hear the whip snap. I somehow managed to pick a physical copy of this for cheap on Ebay back in 2009; didn't realize how much of a great deal I got considering what they go for today. (There's one copy on the UK Ebay going for EIGHT THOUSAND POUNDS somehow..)
Love your editing style.
seconded!
It's expressive, comedic and breathes because the manic is punctuated with moments of calm. Powerhouse editing chops here.

This is good content.
The most underrated in the classic series
5:53 you gotta hold 'L1 and R1' at the same time, right before selecting Original Mode, unc. My personal favorite is 'Sc-55'.

22:06 - excellent ending
