You know, this may be the first time we face what might be the *ACTUAL* Frankenstein. That skeleton that gets up to shock the Creature just might be Victor Frankenstein.
The Golem got the second best upgrade, second only to Dracula. You really get the sense that you're systematically smashing its power sources to pieces, the way the damage starts to show over time.
I like how they stuck to the original idea of the Dracula fight, but made it actually challenging and intimidating. You fight his giant head, but there’s four of them now. One of them does the bat-spitting attack the original did, but it’s now only one of four different attacks you need to handle on the fly. You can whip the head until it collapses, but that’s only a temporary reprieve; you need to hit Dracula’s soul while dodging all the attacks from his heads. Took the same idea, but improved the execution a lot, when they could have instead taken one of the giant bat forms from the other games and did that instead.
The original giant head end boss was just laughably ridiculous. All the rest of the bosses I could get behind to one degree or another, but suddenly you're fighting a giant head that only sorta halfway melts when you beat it? What even was that supposed to be? This remade version kind of makes it look like yeah, you destroyed Dracula's physical form, and now he's going full magic on ya. Or maybe that was supposed to be some kind of mental attack, like an attempt at a possession. You destroyed my body so I'll take over yours, kinda thing. Whatever it is, it's better than melting a dracula-shaped candle.

Hey, I was thinking: am I the only one that sees in the very first boss from Medievil (can't recall the name, but it was made of church glass) a reference to the Stained Glass Warrior from this game?
Honestly, the original game isn't that bad at all, at least as long as you're not playing Version M. But the remake provides an all-round better experience that feels familiar, yet refined, and puts the graphical quality on-par with the SotN on PlayStation. No surprise there, as it was handled by M2, who is synonymous with quality
Actually looks better in the remake. Makes it feel like you are really surrounded and they all have different abilities, vs the old dracula head that spits out one bat at a time. Also at least explain a little while there are dracula heads in the remake as it looks like his soul or energy is floating around, so the other heads are magical extensions of himself.
Now we need from this team a proper remaster of SoTN and Rondo of Blood and not that PNG menu from PS version, also Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.
The difficulty spike at the last boss' phase 2 is a little wild, I think if it had limited continues id be ok until the final boss I got like 5 game overs to him alone though
First of all, at least our hero does not walk around like he has either a back pain or hernia in the remake. They fixed that. Second... The big Dracula head in the remake looks more like scary terrifying 4 brothers (or two brothers and 2 cousins) picking on a small creature... Giving each other the evil smile and laughter and giving each other a high five. But that would make it more challenging than the original. The original only has one head.
@@MegaYoYo First time seeing that walk in the original game, I was thinking "Is he okay? Does he need to see a doctor or a chiropractor or something?"😅🤣
@@MegaYoYo We would need Advanced Calculus to determine how much better New Golem is over Old Golem. 😀 And little details (like the Stained Glass Knight's new "break apart and swirl towards Simon" attack, how the game actually blacks out all the stained glass shards that don't matter) mean a lot. So does giving Big Frank a charge attack and turning Doctor Frankenstein's skeleton from a blot in the background to an Old School problem-solving mechanic. 🤔
One thing I noticed is the original nudity has been removed for the remake. How you feel about the censorship is up to you. It certainly allows parents to be less bothered by having kids exposed to it, but the original stories did describe them as being nude. Just saying.
I think because of Nintendo's strict policy about third party licensing prevented them from calling it Castlevania at the time. Once Nintendo had to revise their policies, then Konami was free to use it for all console games.
A spin-off? Haunted Castle *_was_* supposed to be the original Castlevania 2, but it got caught in Development Hell, another one of Konami's developer teams started making Simon's Quest, Simon's Quest *_didn't_* get stuck in Development Hell, so Simon's Quest got to be the official Castlevania 2 and Haunted Castle...didn't. So Simon Belmont has made more appearances than any other Belmont. Dracula came back from the dead just to mess with Simon *_so_* many times....
@MegaYoYo The Hammer style works for the Hammer movies. I think SOTN onwards was when the CV devs made Dracula their own and not just copying the common designs. Not that that's bad but....I guess I just gravitate to CV's SOTN onwards artstyles
I like the remake and all, but why does this seem SUPER freakin' easy compared to the classic game? All the remakes these days are giving gamers a cakewalk. Why not make it more difficult to balance out all the special moves and new things available to characters in remakes? Ridiculous.
The remake was quite unfair, i think version K was ruthless. This is much more enjoyable. The arcade was meant to suck your coins. Hard mode ain't hard but it's still fun
Seems to me that Dracula put in more effort spiriting away your bride in the original than in the rehash. He actually carried her off the first time; in the remake she faints and he just disappears her. Lazy animators.
It's a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I too appreciate the simple effectiveness of just flying down, grabbing Wifey Belmont and taking off like a Lear Jet. Like, Dracula! You're already airborne! Why bother with all this teleporting rubbish? Just swoop down and grab her, man! Wifey screaming as Dracula takes off with her is a bonus. On the other hand, I also appreciate how Simon and Wifey actually react to what's going on around them now. "Oh, no! The cross on top of the church's steeple exploded! Get behind me, Wifey! Wifey? Oh, no! Wifey fainted somehow! I must attend to her!" Old Simon and Wifey act like they would keep walking right through a 7.2-Richter earthquake. Maybe a compromise between the two would be best. "Wifey! The church just exploded! Look!" "Hello again, Simon! Sorry I couldn't be at your wedding, but I was kind of *_dead,_* thanks to you!" "Wifey, it's Dracula! Get behind me!" "Not today, Belmont! SWOOP! SHOVE! Check it out! *_I got your bitch!"_* SCREAM! "WIFEY!" "Come to Castle Dracula if you want her back; we'll settle our score then! Later, Belmont!" SWOOP! 😆 ...something like that!

Also they're even stingier than regular Castlevania with health I saw maybe 4 health items total overall though great game
Just wondering... What happens if you let the bride fall in the end?
ooouuu i never thought about that
I like The new version of haunted castle
It’s a blast. Happy it got a remake
That walk animation is soooo funny. The last boss did need an update. I'm glad they re-did the golem boss as well
@@MegaYoYo First time seeing that walk in the original game, I was thinking "Is he okay? Does he need to see a doctor or a chiropractor or something?"😅🤣
@@MegaYoYo We would need Advanced Calculus to determine how much better New Golem is over Old Golem. 😀
And little details (like the Stained Glass Knight's new "break apart and swirl towards Simon" attack, how the game actually blacks out all the stained glass shards that don't matter) mean a lot. So does giving Big Frank a charge attack and turning Doctor Frankenstein's skeleton from a blot in the background to an Old School problem-solving mechanic. 🤔
The remake is better
100%
OG intro is better. Remake loses the cheesey way he flies off, laugh seems a little less maniacal.
hehehe bro yea I could see why you prefer that one. Its goofy AF
Wait they remaid this 😮
It plays a lot better now
nothing beats the grim reaper from nes version....:)
That monster has wrecked some of my childhood nights
Michael Bay directed the new intro
WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE
The remake is superior in every respect, but I personally wanted to use the sword of the original.
The sword was cool, we barely see a Belmont use a sword
It's more easy kill Drácula in the original arcade 😲😲😲😲
So easy, just spam cross
One thing I noticed is the original nudity has been removed for the remake. How you feel about the censorship is up to you. It certainly allows parents to be less bothered by having kids exposed to it, but the original stories did describe them as being nude. Just saying.
Classic Hollywood Dracula will always be best Dracula.
I see we have a fan of Hammer films
This looks like Castlevania
Sure is!
I gotta ask since I have no idea about this game. Is this part of Castlevania series or is this something else?
This is Castlevania for sure. Not sure why it got a different name. Think of it as an alternate timeline to Simon's encounter with Dracula
I think because of Nintendo's strict policy about third party licensing prevented them from calling it Castlevania at the time. Once Nintendo had to revise their policies, then Konami was free to use it for all console games.
Castlevania at home
Is this a spin off of. Castlevania?
It's a remake of the arcade castlevania, Haunted Castle
Now it looks like symphony of the night.
Who Dracula? If so, while I think it's a good idea, I like the old look a bit better? Reminds me of old Hammer films
@@MegaYoYo the whole artstyle
@MegaYoYo The Hammer style works for the Hammer movies. I think SOTN onwards was when the CV devs made Dracula their own and not just copying the common designs.
Not that that's bad but....I guess I just gravitate to CV's SOTN onwards artstyles
Bride saved
the body of the second boss is safe to walk through?
The body yes but not the head.
So you like to play Castlevania?
yea sometimes, it's fun
So was the cross in the original game the inspiration for the one in Dante’s Inferno?
I haven't played Dante's Inferno
@@MegaYoYo simple answer in the game you journey through with Death’s scythe and a silver cross that shoots energy crosses at enemies
The Remaster Bosses at least try to kill you
They're better designed. I actually have to see patterns and react
Did... did Konami rip off their own IP by making a Castlevania clone?
Someone hear said it was due to some licensing issues. Not quite sure myself though
I hate how Haunted Castle Revisited wasnt on the castlevania collection smh.
You mean the OG collection?
I like the remake and all, but why does this seem SUPER freakin' easy compared to the classic game? All the remakes these days are giving gamers a cakewalk. Why not make it more difficult to balance out all the special moves and new things available to characters in remakes? Ridiculous.
The remake was quite unfair, i think version K was ruthless. This is much more enjoyable. The arcade was meant to suck your coins. Hard mode ain't hard but it's still fun
That's one full diapy.
That's pampers tuff!
@@MegaYoYo 😆
Temer sequestra Marcela.
Seems to me that Dracula put in more effort spiriting away your bride in the original than in the rehash. He actually carried her off the first time; in the remake she faints and he just disappears her. Lazy animators.
I wouldn't call them lazy. They made the game look smoother in the remake
...something like that!
