Bsring chum is correct. In Jamaica we use fries, minnows we catch in the early morning hours, we keep the bait iced up for the day and set to go night fishing to a bank called California bank, located 8 miles off Port Royal ( yes the wickedest town in the Caribbean seas, where the pirates used to set sail and ambush the Spanish ships sailing back to Spain with gold). We use the same technic : anchor in about 40 feet and fish in waters over 70 to 80 feet. Current is very very important. This lets your bait drift to where the yellow tails are awaiting the chum and your baited hook. Every so often we cut up the minors and let the baited hook drift with the chum. We use more chum bait that actual bait to catch the fish. It is exactly the same technic used everywhere yellow tail are to be found. The more chum you give them the better. So you have to constantly chum and chum. That is the secret to catching yellow tail snappers. We use 2 number 2 hooks, no sinker and we use hand line, no fishing reel. We protect our finger with a bicycle tyre tube. We really feel the fish as you are 100 % connected directly to the fish. Line in your hand and at the end only your hook. We use 45 lbs test line as these yellow tails weight form 2 lbs to 4 lbs.
Hey Joe I beg to differ because my techniques are vastly different to what u do because I use weights because of the current typically 1 1/2 Oz sinkers , and I don't chum either yellow tails are fairly greedy I am from Grenada and I caught yellows as large as 8 to 10 lbs over recks my advise to anyone who wants to know about yellow tail fishing just try ur own technique experience is ur greatest teacher. Ps. this is not me hating on anyone peace n love my brother

You can make your own chum No need to get ripped off at basspro lol use oats some a bit of sand,water and grind up some thread herring and a few packets of chicken stock and your all set you can use some raw rice instead of sand which they also eat.Also squid heads in there ground up drive yellows nutts
Hi Manny , we actually make some of the chums sold at Bass Pro . For years I made my own recipes ... but found my time was worth more than my money and started buying chum . Then as our business in fish food grew, we saw an opportunity to make a product that works great, is convenient and saves time (time IS money) and thus ... Yellowtail up and Snapper up chum was born .
no need for weight typically . if you wrap some of the chum around the bait ..it will sink well. just be sure there is no tension on the line pulling out .good luck!
+Makingthepush What they are doing is called flat lining or slack lining. The idea being a natural bait presentation. Often it is done with a shrimp on a bare hook. I recommend a circle hook otherwise every fish will swallow the hook. Hook the shrimp through the tail length wise trying to hide most of the hook. And then let is float in the chum slick with a slack line. Let it go till it reaches the end of the chum slick. Great technique, but a little limited as you need some current and chum.

Great video, enjoyed it. I also mix oatmeal, cooked rice, menhaden oil and place a silverside on the hook. Works great! I prefer 60 feet of water.

I just use hairline for fishing that's how I catch fish
