2015 International Durastar (Necessary Cold Start)

  • Haven't made a video in a few years so thought I'd throw one up. One of my company's temporary rental trucks sat for over a month unused as a storage box, and the last three weeks our weather averaged subzero temperatures. This day was +10F.
    Outlet power was not available to plug it in, so this is a true cold start out of necessity and not just for UA-cam.
    I used the proper cold starting technique which is to keep using the starter motor to get the engine going even as it repeatedly fires. I did not once touch the accelerator pedal during this start. Much better for your engine this way...a little harder on the batteries and starter motor, but those are replaceable.
    Sorry for the beeping, my air tanks were obviously drained for the long sit in the cold.
    Truck info:
    2015 International Durastar 4300 Day Cab
    MaxxForce Engine (I believe it's the DT)
    Allison Automatic 6 speed
    27' box + liftgate
    GVW 25,999 lbs

    Our buses use only dt466e and only problems I ever see in them is coolant leaks on the newer ones and older dt466e from the early 2000's being tuned for only 210hp from the factory. Shoot we got one that we cranked up to 290hp. On a school bus!!. The allison 2500 pts handles it just fine. And it sure is a blast to pick up kids in. Puts the naughty kids that think they can stand in the bus all the time back in their seat. Lol

    She definitley didn't like it I think this is a good engine but, can't expect a diesel to start easy sitting that time frame at those temps but, I still think it was a decent startup for the temps and the factor of how long it was sitting not too long but, it was still frozen.

    The parkd regen in our maxx force (not sure which number) didnt do squat. because it was the first time needing a regen with me in it, i followed the instructions on the visor ..two regens and an hour and a half or so later, i had to call a mechanic as the dpf filter light was flashing still, saying it had to be regenerated. ..i got it to the highway and held the pedal down until i had to get off at my exit. then the light went out i was told that the parkd regen does nothing and just to take it on the highway. these trucks have been a pain in other ways...coolant issues, turbos..mine had a computer mis communication thing, one of the trucks' caught fire in the cab on the passenger side...not sure if it was the heater blower motor or not...

    Does anyone know where the heater block plug on a 2014 durastar 4300? My 07 has it near the batteries but can't find it on my 2014. Thanks in advance

      It's absolutely horrible the old DT466E from the late 90s early 00s now that is much better motor

      Maxxforce's are unreliable diesel engines from what I heard. They sound really great but try to do research about the Maxxforce engines and you will uncover the truth. Trust me!

    • @user-ri3hc2xs2u
      @user-ri3hc2xs2u 2 роки тому

      @@southernbustransportation They can only be used as high way/OTR trucks. Mine gets about 95% highway miles and it runs like a tank with dual turbos. I only recommended the old school Maxxforce engines (pre 2012), and make sure it gets only highway miles.

    The "Baby Maxxforce" shares nothing with the bigger International diesels. Man makes the big Maxxforces like the Maxxforce13. However this engine, the MaxxforceDT is based off of the older DT466E.

    The dt is far from junk

    • @elevatorman427
      @elevatorman427 9 років тому

      I feel the same way. Its funny things with DT's in them the amount of people who think they have glowplugs. Another funny thing I have discovered from what knowledge I have gained about diesels while being online is how many people think cummins have glowplugs.

      427 Elevating Productions Yeah, no kidding, back in high school, we have dodge 3500 double cab long bed Cummins and trying to explain that damn thing doesn't have glow plugs but only a block heater was like talking to a brick wall.

    • @elevatorman427
      @elevatorman427 9 років тому

      of course though from what I have gathered from my friends who have diesels and online of researching stuff motors such as the cummins that have block heaters pretty much essentially do the same thing as glow plugs do when your waiting on your wait to start light to turn off

    • @Briebabcock8052
      @Briebabcock8052 9 років тому

      427 Elevating Productions Yes, it does, though, if you ever get the chance to replace the spark plugs in a Cummins, sometimes, you can see the wear on the spark plugs.

      +Tyler Emery Most of the school buses I've seen around lately have the same International cab/front end etc. Seen a few Freightliners too. All the same front

    • @crazyjdkid

      +Dinger Mike Yep the International variant of this truck in bus form is called the IC CE and the Freightliner bus variant is the called the Thomas C2.

    • @MrWill1985
      @MrWill1985 8 років тому

      +Tyler Emery The IC CE school bus has a different dashboard then the Durastar truck. And the Saf T Liner C2 has the same exact dash as the Freightliner M2.

    • @jerrysylvesterjr

      +Jerry Sylvester I know the gauges are the same as well as the steering wheel but the rest of the instrument panel is different on the IC ce than the durastar.

    as a cdl driver I have driven freightliners, peterbilt, kenworth, hino, internationals, and others. I can tell you international is trash worst truck of all of times. ill take a freightliners over it anytime but kenworth and peterbilt are the best. internationals will give you so much trouble and will only last about 300,000 miles. complete trash. I drive one for the company I currently work for and even plugged in sometimes it wont want to start. it should be a crime to make such a crappy vehicle

    • @ksull72487
      @ksull72487 5 років тому

      Less than that. I’ve seen them in our fleet rebuilt, new engines under a 100k. 1999s were so much better but dated.
      But trash for sure. Also a CDL driver.
